This is great, I do something similar, but I use a cheap plastic Christmas Tree stand to hold my branch. It works wonders, its quick, cheap & easy to clean. When my birds hack down my big branches, I can just go trim the mountain ash in my front yard & replace them. Much easier than building a stand with plywood & bird poop comes off plastic so much easier than wood. Hope this helps! So glad you're active again on UA-cam! God bless! ❤

We have ample perfect branches here for any project like this :)

Thank you for this. We are in the process of adopting a parrotlet and went shopping for a perch. They’re more expensive than the cage and the bird himself. I was exactly looking for this for a very long time and couldn't find one in any shops.. finally gave a try in youtube.. what a luck. I will definitely try to build this tree for my budgies Thanks a lot 🙏💓💗💕❤☺🙏
This looks great. I made my budgies a 2-tree-thing to go on the window yesterday. Not so professional, 2 branches connected together with smaller branches, secured into beer bottles that were cemented into heavy pots with rocks covering the cemented part. It's not as awesome and big as yours but they seem to be enjoying it so far.
I love that people are making their own things for their birds. I don’t think buying play stands or even toys are worth it at all. I make everything for my alexandrine parakeet from trees and plants in my yard. I’ve just spent the entire afternoon going through the recycling bin and getting every bit of paper and cardboard in there to make shredding toys. If you are sure that the wood is safe then it is a great idea to leave bark on the play stand and toys as parrots absolutely love to rip the bark off. It is brilliant entertainment for them.
Use a Christmas tree holder if the intent is to place the stand on a hard floor. You can buy ones that do not have a water reservoir and are earmarked for mounting artificial trees. To protect the floor, lay a cage liner paper or such. Done.

Your DIYs & training tutorials are super duper easy , just love ur channel I have a query, birds in the wild land directly on the tree surfaces, then why do we have to smoothen it ?
You don’t have to, the reason I did was because maple branches can be prone to harbouring funguses under the bark. However it is important to note that just because wild birds may be exposed to these risks it doesn’t mean they’re immune to them. Animals in our care are our responsibility, keeping them safe from illnesses is a top priority. Just because wild birds get sick from these risks doesn’t mean we shouldn’t prevent our own birds from the same risks!
I’ve had birds for many years. I have never disinfected a branch. When I was younger I had cockatiels, and conure I just looked up whatever was a safe tree and brought the branch in bark and all They had the most fun peeling it off. I never took from a rotten tree it was always a fresh branch that fell. That way the bark was nice and tight. (( I’m not sure if an old rotting tree would be the same.) Anyway, good health is so important. People clean too much.
Do you know if wood carpenters glue is safe to use? I'm thinking it would be safe as long as you immediately wipe up all the squeeze out. That's really good trick if you do have a split branch is to fill the split with wood glue clamp it and then use a damp cloth to get all of the squeeze out off and then when it's dry scrape it down with a knife and then it's good and solid it to drill into. It might be okay now that you've drilled into it and put the screw in but it can dry out over time and will fail
Love it I've had my tree parts ready since summer (I got tired of henpecking my partner) I'm gonna finish it myself Yesss. I'm just worried about getting the hole i drill to fit the washer is there a secret to this or do I just go-with-it? Your doing so much good! I'll be back me and the girls, Diamond (mom) Precious Jr, Blue and Patches, her babies!
Great video as per usual. I'll definitely be making one. Could you please do a video/tutorial on "tricks" that can be used when your bird is sick or at the vet? e.g taking oral medication, safe restraints etc? After a stressful week of medicine my budgie now hates my hands, any sort of towel or cloth, and his travel crate. I began training my other birds to voluntarily interact with the end of a syringe filled with water but they flick the water away instead of drinking it which wouldn't work if it was a precise dosage. Restraint-wise I can touch their backs (like in your tunnel trick tutorial) but if I flip them over they get stressed and I get bitten. Please help!
I really want a Java table top stand but it’s so expensive and also sold out atm. I was thinking of just getting a wooden tray and finding a decent branch and attaching it somehow. I have other table perches I’ve made but they have issues and they’re kinda ugly.
Very nice..just 2 questions.. First, Why didn't you use (non-toxic!) Wood Glue on the joints to keep them safe n secure long term? If you're worried the birds might get to glue residue, it cleans up with water if you were to accidentally let it drip on any surface. It makes a HUGE difference on projects like this! Second, I understand the birds are going to chew the branches, (that's why I use Willows wood), so they definitely should NOT be painted. You can clean any of the branches with wire perch scrapers or even wire or waterproof sand paper since you can't wash them, but why didn't you paint (kid safe non-toxic) the base? The surface layer might have a 'seal' but it's very thin and will quickly scrub off. The other layers of plywood aren't so 'lucky' and will mold if they get wet. Bacteria will grow between those layers pretty quickly too. You could have used 1/2 round molding (since you had a handy man!) to do it up right, but silicone (it's 'inert'!) would have sealed the edges. You wouldn't need a big caulking gun full, just a smaller tube tube or two, depending on the size of the base, and smear it on with a gloved hand. Paint would have sealed it too.. I guess my thought are with cleaning and the health of the birds. Budgie dropping are easy but other birds, bigger parrots and Softbills are alot softer and wetter inviting mold, mildew and bacteria especially. Your construction, concern for the birds health and wellness is otherwise great and the way you present it is entertaining. ;) Keeping up the good work! 'Silver n Flock'
Most choices were made exclusively for bird safety and to be cost friendly with materials we already had available that were bird safe. Didn’t want to seal the base in any regard due to the fumes involved in doing that and the fact that my birds are attuned to going down to the floor to forage I didn’t want there to be any risk if they happened to chew on the base while they were down there. Avoided wood glue because of ingestion risks again, even if you wipe it away they can still chew through the branches and end up getting to that layer ending up with adhesive in their mouth. I’m sure they’re safe to do if done right but when making something myself I’d rather there be as close to 0 risk for the birds as possible.
Take it to a power wash and try removing the bark that way, it’s quite efficient... what doesn’t come off that way can be removed by hand. Clamp the branch and use a random orbital sander instead of a Dremel if you can.
This is awesome! My birds have been attacking the live tree we have at the house (to the point where limbs are starting to die 😬) so being able to make one myself AND add to it as the days go on is fantastic! Do you know how much you spent on this project?(assuming you already have the power tools) Thanks again! Definitely going to try my hand at it!
We didn’t spend anything really, the wood is from a tree in our backyard, already had the tools and we already had the screws+washers from assembling the bird room! If I were to guess outside of the tools there’s no way we would’ve spent more than 30$ on the rest
Hi, Please would you be able to give me an idea of the height of your tree stand to the dimensions of the base? I want to have the best hope of stability when we make our own.
I had a living tree on my yard that was slowly dying so these branches are from that! You can collect fallen branches as well but you have to be very careful to ensure it is not rotting, mouldy, or infested with bugs! And that you’re able to correctly ID the type of wood by branch alone
I'm super paranoid about literally everything SO. I followed the tutorial on making perches but how would you be able to put that giant branch in the oven? What happens if I skip that step and don't use bleach?
Your videos are awesome. I have a question: When I just had my parrotlet for a few weeks, he started saying words like 'kiekeboe', 'hallo' and 'kom eens'(dutch) eventhough we I didn't say those words to him. Is it possible that he learned it from my other bird?
If your other bird learned those words and say them a fair bit then yes, birds learn from each other. If you say those words often around birdie then he/she may have just picked them up but it is most likely that your bird learned the words from your other bird.
I have a classmate who has a pet Amazon parrot, and I am worried about its health. I emailed my classmate when I noticed that on the zoom meetings, the parrot, Larry, was always in his cage and always squaks. he said that Larry bites him so he just keeps Larry in the cage. He also told me Larry is on a seed diet. I sent him a respectful email saying that I was worried about Larry's health and I made a Google doc with a bunch of info about cage size, diet etc. He said "we will get Larry more toys" which is good, but he really needs to do more than just getting toys and I'm not sure how to help. I asked my friends who have owned birds, and they both agree that Larry needs to get out of his cage ASAP. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can convince him to take better care of him?

I'm not as young as I am on my pic I'm a teenager I'm 15
Could you tell me what bit sizes, screw & washer sizes plz.
I love this but, I'm just not sure what types of trees are ok for my bird?
You can Google it and you can use apps like PictureThis to identify trees.
Maybe it is worth mentioning to use stainless steel screws, washers, etc...
Are Neem branches safe as perch?
Can you use branches from any trees?
No! You can Google “bird safe trees” and find lists
Do you use living trees or some that are on the ground????
I had a living tree on my yard that was slowly dying so these branches are from that!
You can collect fallen branches as well but you have to be very careful to ensure it is not rotting, mouldy, or infested with bugs! And that you’re able to correctly ID the type of wood by branch alone
What was the dimensions of the birch flat you used?
What size of drill bits did u use
What if i put it in a tub filled with plazter of paris/quick cement and put the tub on a stand with a wheel
hello a question what do you use as a reward when they do a trick ????
what trees do not need to have bark removed?
Very nice love it I will make to 😊😊
I'm super paranoid about literally everything SO. I followed the tutorial on making perches but how would you be able to put that giant branch in the oven? What happens if I skip that step and don't use bleach?
When i get branchs for making purch's i use a knife to get the bark off its quicker and easier
hopefully u got ur man a nice cold beer after all that work
That “man” is my Wife, but she did enjoy a beer

Your videos are awesome.
I have a question:
When I just had my parrotlet for a few weeks, he started saying words like 'kiekeboe', 'hallo' and 'kom eens'(dutch) eventhough we I didn't say those words to him.
@MIA FERGUSON thanks for the help! I will definetly tell him that
Is mango wood safe
Love you
How will I know if it has pesticides on my tree?
You would have to know the background of the tree, ask you mom or dad if they have sprayed it with pesticides
amazing!!
Awesome project but, gosh sharpen your drill bits lol :) Thanks for the video, sub'd!
Newt: I flipped. FEED MEH!
"Just gonna sand this down to make sure no one gets poked!"
*continues to casually add thorny branches*
