When people take the time and energy to talk about my country like this, with such respect and actually look into the details of what makes Greece, it makes me humbly wanting to visit and learn about their country too. I would love to do that anyway, even if there wasn't a video for Greece, but after watching these videos I really truly want to learn about their countries. Thank you for this video guys. Some of the facts are slightly different though: Tourism accounts for 17% of Greek economy, not 80%. There is a strong services sector that accounts for almost 35% of the economy, shipping makes up approx 20% and the rest is agriculture and manufacturing, including real estate. Greece has not developed a heavy manufacturing industry for reasons that remain unexplained to me, however we do build -guess what- ships of course.

Kapodistrias didn't lead the Greek revolution. It was lead by many others he was the first governor though.... although a very good and informative video it has some inaccuracies.first we do celebrate our birthday.greek kids are actually lucky because we get presents four times a year.second the earthquakes. we do get some mild ones but not all of them are mild or in the sea.there's a good amount of dangerous fault lines in mainland that are responsible for hundreds of dead due to collapsed buildings(search the 1999 athens earthquake) second we do have big ones above 7 in the richter scale and even 8...(fan fact scientist speculate that an above 7 earthquake was responsible for the collapse of the colossus in the harbour of rodes) and we have volcanoes....we boast about the olive oil because even though the other countries like spain and italy do produce more we actually have 4 different species of olive trees which gives us the upper hand in a manner of speaking.also we didn't join the eu in 2001 but in 1981 with the maastricht treaty.in 2001 we joint in the common currency the euro...as for what he said yeah they did lie about the financial statements lol....

Tourism is a big business in Greece but not that huge as 80% . In the summer the workforce is around 9% but this involves also immigrants non-Greeks . Greeks are not Slavic but they are very good friends of the Serbs. Traditional clothing in the Balkans look alike but they are not the same . All Greek men are drafted at 18 but most of them take an exemption for studies for a few years . Females are actually 52% of the population. There is a lot of Greek blood in Turks but not Turkish in Greeks. Turkey is always hostile towards Greece and Greeks don't like them either as they don't like Muslims in general. The muslims in Thrace are not Turks , they are Greek converts, Pomaks and Roma gypsies

A Bosnian who don't hate Greece is a pleasant surprise. I'm not going to details if it's right or wrong and I will just say I wish someday Balkans will be united!
I'm from Macedonia (Greek region) and I don't know if you have visited it but if you do, I bet you will think you never left home. We have so much in common and ofcourse pita. That fast food flat bread is imported eastern thing. Our traditional pita is done with fyllo and can be twisted or flat with mainly cheese but we also do with leeks and onions which is very popular home dish. In Greece we don't have a restaurant culture (I believe same as you) and we eat the good stuff at home, while outside is mostly about tavernas with lots of meats and junk food in general.

Well first of all we celebrate birthdays as everyone else. We also celebrate namedays but we almost never throw parties on name days. We just bring some sweets for our co-workers or our classmates on that day. And people exchange wishes. That's all. (There is never a cake with your name on like in the video. Cakes are for birthday parties only. Also the name on the cake was spelled incorrectly.)
The thing about cemeteries and bodies exhumed was also misleading and exaggerated. In the cities there is limited space for cemeteries, so after some years depending on the cemetery, the remains are taken out of the grave and put in another area of the cemery in a smaller sarcofagus. It is very decent, with a marble plaque the name and the photo, DEFINITELY NOT SCALPS ON SHELVES like in the video. Families can also keep the grave but they have to pay a yearly fee. Many families have bought a family grave so that whole process never happens. But it really depends on the cemetery and the area you live.
In the traditional geographic regions (not the administrative ones) Aegean islands are not grouped together. They are devided between Cyclades, Dodecanese and North Aegean islands.
Divorce rate in Greece is at 2.0/1000, exactly the EU average. So no, not the lowest divorce rate in Europe.
The demographics section was also outdated. According to 2011 census 90% were Greek citizens and 10% non-Greek citizens. 12% of the population was foreign-born. There is no way Greek population is 65% female. Greece has a normal male to female ratio, which means slightly more females than males. Greek census collects data on citizenship and place of birth. Ethnicity, language and religion are considered sensitive private data by the law, therefore there are only estimates but no one really knows exact numbers about those categories.

Pita with Gyros mate. That's how wee call it, not meat pie. You as a foreigner know it Gyros but the right way to call it is Pitta with Gyros.
Pelasgians wasn't from Crete but from the other islands of the central Aegean sea and central Greece. They did not spread in the rest of the Greece but they were conquered by other Greek tribes

I think they don't rebuild the statues because they will look modern and lose their ancient value, but it depends on peoples' opinions. Kinda like the coin collector where they keep the old valuable coins rusted and they don't fix them because they won't look old and lose value

My classical Greek teacher in school once said that the only true Greeks left live in Crete and maybe Italy, while the majority of current continental Greeks are Slavic by origin. I wonder how true this is?

Greeks thought the same - we should diversify our economy. So, the did. Try to.
That's why they are in depth.
Simply, all investments didn't increase economy, and loans with interest rates must be paid.

I'm not Dinaric but for your first question: isolation from the wealth Western European countries gained through colonisation, being late to repeal serfdom and develop industry, and domination by foreign empires.

because of soviet union, Gladly everyone is making better now. Of course there was sad Balkan -war. But it does getting better, if some Hungary kind of regime do not make it worse. imo (pahakasvi from Finland) All of our countries u see are independent. EU is just democratic way to make things easier for us. But if u like facist regime, just leave EU :) IMO
