    7:12 Actually Vlad the Impaler was born in Transylvania at Sighișoara. The name Dracula come from his father Vlad II Dracul which was a member of the Order of the Dragon. The Dragon name was mispronounced in romanian so it become Dracul (The Devil). Also the Dragon, Balaur (in romanian) it's a scary creature asociated with evil in the romanian mythology.

    Actually whole Dobrogea, more than half of Wallachia and about half of today's Rep. of Moldova were part of Roman Empire BEFORE Dacia was conquered by Romans.
    Because of Russia's strategical interest in Moldova, the LIE that the Romans never were in Moldova is very spread, firstly among Romania's Slavic neighbours, then taken over by others superficially ''informed'' people.
    As solid undisputed evidence of Roman presence, there are two long Roman defensive walls in today's Rep. of Moldova, ''Valul lui Traian de Sus'' and ''Valul lui Traian de Jos'', which in Soviet time were drastically destroyed by excuse of farming land need, but in fact, it was a Russian need to swipe out any others than Slavic, especially Roman traces in the Russian occupied Romanian territories (Bessarabia).

    Ceausescu didn't bankrupt the country, he did the opposite; he got Romania out of debt. He didn't want Romania to be controlled by foreign powers (including the USSR) and so he payed off Romania's national debt. This was the problem! In order to repay the national debt, he essentially impoverished the country, rationing off electricity, food and supplies just so he can say that Romania was free of debt. He was economically illiterate. The people were starving and suffering because of this. Regarding the building of the parliament building, he recruited thousands of people to build it who were "paid" but it was essentially slave wages. They were forced to work.

They are called aromanians, they tried to have there own statal organisation but they couldn't. One of their cities was Moscopole in present day Albania, but it was overrun by other people, probably slavs or greeks. There was also dalmatian, a language more closely related to italian, somewhere in the region where you live.

      [exactly] South of the Danube live ROMANIANS, called by Serbians as ''Vlachs'', which is old, exonym for Romanians. The ''Romance-speaking people'' you wrote they are called ''aromanians'' linguistically are Romanians too, living around Pindus Mountains in ex-Roman diocese of Macedonia, that's why they are called also Macedo-Romanians.
      The city of Moscopole in present day Albania was overrun by Muslim Albanians.
      Dalmatian became closer to Venetian, not to Italian, because Venetia controlled the coast of present-day Croatia and Muntenegru, the local Romance-speaking population, known much later as Dalmatian, was ''Venetianized''.

    Actually the Roman Dacia wasn’t such a small part of the country we know today. It was like a half of the size of Romania. But it included small parts of Serbia and Hungary too.
    Dobruja had already been part of the Roman Empire for decades. (Before the Romans even conquered Dacia)
    Then there was almost half of Transylvania under Roman rule. Hence the name of one of our big cities Cluj Napoca. It used to be called Napoca back in the day. Wallachia was almost half Roman, mostly Oltenia. I think there is still some significant sort of Italic DNA heritage over there. But still overall most of Romanians (and Oltenians, those living in Oltenia) are genetically Balkan. Schools over here tell us that we are some Roman-Dacian mix, but genetically we aren’t as “Roman” as we might think. DNA results show that about 85-90% of the country has been more or less genetically Balkan in the last centuries.

      That still doesen't make Romanians "Slavic" if they where there should show parts of Asia in the DNA, even a part of Italy is in the Balkans.
      I learned at school in Canada back in the day that the only thing "Slavic" about Romanians are some of the traditions that is shared between the neighbours wich is normal. Also in Spain is something like in Romania that dresses with mask and stuff to scare the evil and I can thell that the masks look quite similar.

      @octaviantimisoreanu5810 4 роки тому +3

      There is a significant portion of "Mediterranean DNA" in our genome, alluding to the fact that we have some direct "Italian" ethnicity, but for the most part we Romanians seem to be most related to the rest of our neighbors. This doesn't mean we aren't all Roman though, because there was no such thing as "Roman" ethnicity. Being Roman meant being a Roman citizen, and that has nothing to do with Italy. Roman citizenship was granted to all freemen withing the Roman empire. So we are Roman because we kept referring to ourselves as Roman citizens throughout our history, and we kept speaking a language that came from Latin.

In the 4th and 5th centuries the Roman armies popularised this symbol across the empire. In the west it became “dragon”, whereas in the territories inhabited by Daco-Romanians it changed its meaning due to the influence of the Church, who assimilated the image of “draco” to the devil.

    The two-head-eagle "whatever" was the emblem of the Eastern Roman Empire(Byzantine Empire which lasted another 1k years after the fall of the Rome, around 470 AD) and, after the fall of Constantinopole(1453), Russia claimed it had the right to be the 3rd Rome(after the 1st Rome, 2nd Rome-Constantinopole and 3rd-Moscow)... but all for Christianity in general, russians say, and especially for Eastern Orthodox religion. A little correction and a historical detail that even most Romanians don't know: "Dracula" doesn't mean "dragon" it actually doesn't mean anything in modern day Romanian. "Dracula" is composed of the word "Drac(u)" and the suffix "la" which in Old Church Slavonic that was spoken in those times (as well as in some modern slavic languages, if im not mistaken) shows a Genitive, in this case "of Dracu" that meant "the son of Dracu(l)". Vlad the Impaler's father, who was also a Valachian ruler yet less famous was called "Vlad Dracul" because he was a member of the Dragon's order of the King of Hungary. Hence his son was called Vlad Dracula - Vlad the son of Dracul (son of the dragon).
