I've read many similar comments and can only say you are a bunch of very sick people, completely out of touch with how life used to be when people didn't look for such nonsense. But with this one you are really scraping the bottom of the barrel. These are two very talented women singing a charming song in a good wholesome movie, and has nothing to do with anybody being gay or celebrating the gay lifestyle. Except for stupid people who see what they want to see.

    A woman's touch, a woman's touch
The magic of Aladdin couldn't do as much
    She's a wizard, she's a champ
And she doesn't need a lamp
    A woman's touch can weave a spell
The kind of hocus pocus that she does so well
With the magic of a broom
    She can mesmerize a room
With a whisk whisk here and a whisk whisk there
And a dustpan for the cinders
With a rub rub here and a rub rub there
She can polish up the winders
    Then presto chango
Suddenly, the sun comes shining through
And what does Mr Sunshine say to you?
    How d'you do?
It makes you blink, to stop and think
    A woman and a whisk-broom
    Can accomplish so darn much
    So never under-estimate a woman's touch
A woman's touch can quickly fill
The empty flower boxes on a window sill
One smile from her and zoom
    Little buds begin to bloom
A touch of paint, a magic nail
Can turn a kitchen chair into a Chippendale
    Even make the lamp appear
    Like a crystal chandelier
With a tack tack here and a tack tack there
And a hand around a hammer
With a mop mop here and a mop mop there
You can give a cabin glamour
Then gosh, almighty, all at once
    The cabin that we knew
Becomes a shining castle built for two
    Me and you
The pies and cakes a woman bakes
Can make a fella tell her
That he loves her very much
    So never under-estimate a woman's touch

My 1 minute of fame with Doris Day.
In 1976 I worked in the sales department for the magazine and paperback book wholesaler of Los Angeles: Sunset News, later ARA services. Occasionally, celebrities would stop by with their agent, after getting their “tell all” biographies published. “Doris Day: Her Own Story” was just out and she and her agent came by for a promotional effort. After her agent spoke, he opened up the floor for any questions by the sales staff and execs. I was upset that no one, including myself, asked any questions or had any comments. I think most were awestruck and shy at her celebrity status and presence. The agent said something like…”Well ok, get in a line and Ms. Day will autograph a copy of her book for you.” Since I was so disappointed at our silence, I got at the end of the line, thinking that I could ask or say something to her. When it was my turn..I asked her, “Do you have any desire to get back into films?” She stopped signing her autograph on my copy and looked right into my eyes and said, “No when I was doing the movies, I was always asking questions like…’ Did I say that line right? Do I look ok? Is my makeup on right?’ It was always I, I, I. Now I have a chance to do something for others.” I understood what she meant and just said..”Good”
35 years later, I wrote to her and mentioned our meeting and what you just read of our words to each other. She replied by sending, to me, an autographed color picture of herself. I first saw her on TV in “Calamity Jane” and would play “Secret Love” on my mom’s piano. I was about 12 years old then.

I was walking down a street in NY, I'm guessing also 1976, and two yards ahead of me was Garbo walking. I knew it was her because she was in her usual outfit the paparazzi photographed her wearing... oversized old-school fur coat, long silver hair under a brown knit cap, and sunglasses. Also, in her low walking shoes, six feet tall. It was her. I wanted to say hello and ask her at least one question, but somehow I couldn't. If it had been anyone else- Davis or Crawford or Hepburn or Doris- I could have politely said something. But something about Garbo said "don't." So I didn't.

Kinda odd how they removed all of the Allyn's (katies) singing from the original soundtrack, I like doris days versions regardless but wish they wouldve kept in this version of the song!

Been awhile since I've seen this movie, but isn't there a character at the saloon that performs in drag? I wonder if this scene's subtext is truly accidental? In general, the queer coding is so strong in the film, but truly shines here in this song and A Secret Love.

ImmortalChaos I feel so grieved over a generation that can’t understand love between two women doesn’t alwAys include sex . Your seeing what you want to see in this film not in any way giving a gay message . My mother used to walk to school three miles every morning with 4 other girl friends . They all held hands while walking and none of them wanted to have sex with each other. They loved each other but not sexually . I weep for this generation that’s become so sexually crazed they have never experienced love for the same sex in a deep abiding friendship that isn’t going to lead to sex. You don’t understand do you ...but my mother did and many in her generation did . I will never forget the day my daughter was holding hands with her best friend when she was 12 years old. They were at the zoo looking at the animals together . Neither one was sexually acttacted to each other. They loved each other as two sisters love would love each other. Along comes some one asking them if they were lesbians. My daughter didn’t know what a lesbian was. I explained it to her later and she looked shocked and upset. She said mom that’s sickening . It is sickening that we live in a generation that can’t understand love of another doesn’t always mean sexual attraction .... it’s also sad that my daughter and her best friend never held hands again...there innocence was stolen by the sickening and desgusting interpitations of this very confused generation. They can’t discern love between two people I’d sexual attraction isn’t involved . It’s so sad . We live in a perverse generation .

You're focusing on the sex life of gay people far more than you would upon seeing a heterosexual relationship, so bringing it away from weird fantasizing about stranger's sexual proclivities, would you really not assume a potential romantic relationship upon seeing a boy and a girl holding hands? Why can't a man and a woman have a relationship that doesn't include romance? Why does your perverse mind have to make such "desgusting interpitations"
Anyway I've seen straight people project romantic couplings onto literal infants because they were opposite sexes and next to each other, so glass houses dude

The people making comments do not understand the innocence and lack of guile in this era. I was born in 1953. And i can tell you, with authority, that women were far more appreciated in my day than they are now. As Doris Day sang, "You can't get a man with a gun!"

One of the most ridiculous, absurd and yet somehow irresistible sequences in all cinema. The cabin, when complete, looks like nothing on earth in the 1870s but is the perfect model of what every American in the 1950s would have dreamed of as being most delightful in the rustic country style. It is practically a Cath Kidston catalog. A very odd movie you have to say. Not only Doris Day gets to cross dress, but also Dick Wesson and Howard Keel too. You get not one, but three, parody music hall songs and "I've Got a Hive Full of Honey" is a ridiculously suggestive song for a man to sing, even in drag.

Don’t be hard on lesbians for projecting onto this. Even now they’re thirsting for representation in film. I didn’t sense any lesbian undertones when I watched this over and over with my Nan as a kid. Little did I know that it was an indicator that I was as gay as a teapot.

You can clearly tell who are the Gen Z and young millennials watching this because they think it's gay. Us older folks no better since we've seen the movie growing up. They had a close girl friendship, and Jane was in love with a man and became very feminine for him. That's all. People read too much into stuff 🙄🙄🙄 Dont watch if you can't handle straight romance haha

    • @haleyhappyhippygirl
      @haleyhappyhippygirl Рік тому

The reason we think it's gay is because it resonates with us. This movie is very much queer coded. All we've ever watched were straight romances because we don't have very much representation but believe me when I say we know it when we see it.
