I remember first hearing this song when I was just a little kid and immature. Hahaha, I thought it was bland. Then I remember hearing it again, after I'd grown up in Oklahoma, spent my childhood there, made all my best lifelong friends there, and had an amazing time in high school there. It was at a play in a real-life theater that my class got to see our senior year. When I heard that song then, I didn't make fun of it. All my buddies and I stood up and it was one of the best moments of my life. This song really means a lot to us Okies. It may seem bland, but it just represents our way of life and all the great people there. I will always stand for this song, and remember the great times I had with the crew.
My favorite bad movie was made in Oklahoma. It's called either Party Crasher or Happy Birthday to Me, and it was filmed in East Tulsa on no budget (apparently). It's one of the best worst movies ever.
Wow. I had the same experience with this song when I was forced to learn it but even now as a middle schooler, I can appreciate this song and so can my friends. I hope I can be able to reconnect with my crew soon.
We had to learn this song in pre-k (because I'm from Oklahoma) and I've thought the lyric was "Oklahoma every night, my honey lemon eye" for my entire life until this point
Little known fact...By the time Oklahoma was made Gordon and Shirley Jones had performed together a lot and despite both being married, were deeply in love. In the scene at 2:30, she loses it and tears up with the emotion, and had to look away. But being the pro she was, and with Gordon holding her chin to steady her trembling lips, they finished the number. It was so moving that the cast insisted that the scene was not redone. Shirley Jones has said this was the most important scene of her career.
What an interesting piece of trivia regarding this particular scene, which I thought was such a romantic gesture between two newlyweds, not realizing it was real-life emotions between Shirley Jones and Gordon MaRrae. Their beautiful chemistry was later reunited in "Carousel".
For what it’s worth (I know this comment is two years old, but…) it is not entirely true. Shirley didn’t marry her first husband until 1956, and this movie was made in 1955. Gordon was married to his wife, Sheila, but Shirley was not married. Doesn’t mean the rest of the comment isn’t true-they could very well have been in love and she was upset about it all ending, just that she was not married at the time. That all being said, I have literally wondered my whole life about that little moment, because it did not look scripted and that little nod her gives her seemed like such a private moment between them, so I would not be at all shocked to learn that their unrequited love was the reason for such a moment happening in the film.
My pop Warner team would just keep chanting the part where they say "Oklahoma" before we would do Oklahoma Drills. When I was younger that chant scared be to death. It was my biggest fear. Six years later I'm still playing football and one of the best on my high school team. That chant and hearing it on here, still sends chills and a little fear down my spine...
I lived in Oklahoma for a little bit when I was a baby and now I'm in ny 40s never been there again but i don't know why i hope one day to live there again. Amazing song. The Broadway revival a few years ago was excellent.
Gordon MacRae's voice was so powerful - I could listen to him all day! I love watching this musical.

Wonderful movie, fantastic song!
The best performance éblouissante ever no way in stereophonic sound, TECHNICOLOR AND Wide CINEMASCOPE ALL AROUND! MERCI BEAUCOUP FOR this incredible outstanding rendering COPY ever. Merci beaucoup from Paris France. Emmanuel
Wunderschön, beschwingt und heiter! Das gibt's heute nicht mehr!
I love this song 😍 it's the best thing ever 😅
Sung this in 2nd grade with my class for a show, I’m now in 8th grade and just found this....brings back memories my line was “plenty of room to swing a rope”
Gordan M had a lovely strong outstanding voice. Thanks 🙏
i love the movie, can watch it over and over
I remember first hearing this song when I was just a little kid and immature.
@@thewafflrman5326 amen, good luck and hope you succeed, too
@@davejones5747 lol that’s also a classic, I just looked it up, it’s goofy
Proud to be an Okie and proud to sing along with this great tune. :-)
SAME!!! :-}
I live in Michigan. But this song isn't just about Oklahoma. It's about America! The U.S. , that is. Thanks, Oklahoma! O. K.!
I'm an Australian, I'm in love with this. Respect to our allies.
Takes me back to being a kid we would sing this every friday during our assemblys. It’s hard to not feel sad about it hahaha
We had to learn this song in pre-k (because I'm from Oklahoma) and I've thought the lyric was "Oklahoma every night, my honey lemon eye" for my entire life until this point
I grew up in Germany and we learned this song in the music lessons in school... I'm 66 now ...
Ya' gotta love the musical and the state.
Agreed one of the most beautiful state songs ever

One of my favorite musical movie of all time❤
Little known fact...By the time Oklahoma was made Gordon and Shirley Jones had performed together a lot and despite both being married, were deeply in love.
Brilliant fact, fantastic.
The High School I attended performed this musical many years ago. Really professionally done and great memories.
I love Oklahoma! I miss it tremendously! From Tennessee originally but I have always felt I am a native son of Oklahoma!
I love this song!!!! I remember singing this song for a school 5th grade concert.
I don’t live there now but I lived there for my first 17 years. I’m proud!
One of the finest talent show I ever seen
My pop Warner team would just keep chanting the part where they say "Oklahoma" before we would do Oklahoma Drills. When I was younger that chant scared be to death. It was my biggest fear. Six years later I'm still playing football and one of the best on my high school team. That chant and hearing it on here, still sends chills and a little fear down my spine...
In morning assemblies, we used to sing this in Elgin, Oklahoma. I don’t know if they still sing it in the mornings but it was fun back then
I love this song!
I lived in Oklahoma for a little bit when I was a baby and now I'm in ny 40s never been there again but i don't know why i hope one day to live there again. Amazing song. The Broadway revival a few years ago was excellent.
