  • You've been asking and asking, so here it is! The 1981 - 1983 ATC185S versus the 1984 - 1986 ATC200S comparison video! There are a surprisingly large amount of subtle differences in these machines that you wouldn't normally know... specifically with the 185S!
    I dragged them all out and lined them all up for you. That's the best way to start comparing this to that and really makes the differences stand out. The 200S's didn't have much change... but the 3 years of the 185s really show Honda was developing and evolving year after year. It's really quite impressive.
    Now... it's up to you to tell me what I missed or got wrong!!

    Awesome video... I had a buddy back when we were kids had a 1980 185 and I remember when the 185s came out me and him went down to our local Honda shop because we wanted to know what the “S” was all about... and the owner told us that the “S” meant “small” because it was a smaller frame bike... so it sounds like your guess is right... keep the great videos coming... I go back to my childhood every time I watch one👍👊🇺🇸

    My father gave me a new 185s in 82. I had so much fun on that machine. Recently I found a basket case 83 and restored it. I drive it all over town, love it. Great content but one mistake, the 82 also had split wheels, 83 got the one piece.

    Is it possible to have a 1982 185S with the mostly white tank stripe? That’s what mine has and the headset decal shows 1982. It also has the 1982 style on-off and lamp switch. It originally belonged to my father in-law and has not been altered that I know of.

    • @ThisOldTrike
      @ThisOldTrike  2 місяці тому

      It's possible to have an 82 that has an 81 tank on it. That is the most likely scenario. There could have been any number of reasons how the tank ended up swapped around... but more than likely, that's what happened.

    When I got my 86 200s it had a 377 dunlop on the front.... bald, smooth no tread left I thought they replaced it and the 83 84 R rear tire was the right size but I'm wrong that was an original front tire

    I think I have a theory on the part numbers nothing to prove it but from my knowledge of tires there’s different compounds for different uses so the 250r being a race machine probably has a softer compound while the 200s may have a harder one

    Did all 200s’ have the compartment in the rear, all I’ve seen have. But I’m looking into new plastics for my 85’ 200s and the only replacements I can find that claim they’re for a 200s are solid one piece with no compartment in the back from Maier.

    • @ThisOldTrike
      @ThisOldTrike  Рік тому

      Yes sir. OEM fenders were injection molded. Maier fenders are vacuum formed, so they can't do a lot of the complex shapes and contours that OEM had... so that means no trunk unfortunately.

    Mine is an 82 Kawasaki KLT 250 Prairie.
    Low large under rear section fuel tank with pump give very long range.
    Electric start only but really never had a problem with it.
    I still ride it all the time had it for forty two years now.
    Plenty of power and never needed reversing anyway.
    Five speed motorcycle transmission and in closed chain drive.
    Racks front and rear. Rear is covered by rubber belting for handy work table.
    Additional super bright LED lights have ultra low amperage draw for night off road.
    Two pounds pressure gives very comfortable ride yet not excessive drag.

    Great video you look like a knowligible guy and neet your 3 wheelers are fairly straight your place is nice but how do you set the seats and fenders straight on the asphalt or cement instead of laying a blanket and then set them on the top? It shows carelessness in a way which is very surprising coming from a guy like you

    • @ThisOldTrike
      @ThisOldTrike  2 роки тому

      I think you're thinking these machines are nicer than they are in reality. The machines in the video are not flawless show machines... they've survived and have blemishes and to go to the extent of putting the fenders on a blanket just isn't necessary in the case of these machines.

    I'm still so confused. I have what I thought was a 1983 185s. Now the only thing I know, because I walked out and looked, is that I have a 200. The airbox looks nothing like any of them. The inlet pokes out like the 81, but there is no hole next to it for the tool kit. The airbox is one piece that goes to a rubber boot then to the carb
