- You asked, so I'm answering... "Where do I buy parts? Where do I find new old stock NOS fenders? Where do I search for part numbers?? What parts interchange with other machines??
Watch this video and all of that gets answered. My disclaimer is, this video is specific to the person looking for Honda parts... new or used. This doesn't dive into where you can find aftermarket parts or reproduction parts... that will be a different video!

To take a second and say thank you for taking the time to make those videos and if I ever have a question, I’d like to be in touch. Thank you so much Derrick Fossett, Kitchener, Ontario, Canada.
I’m building a 1986 TRX250R. I’m using some aftermarket parts because I plan on racing it, but the process I’m about to say is the same so buckle up.
Step 1: Get on a Facebook group, joining multiple groups helps your chances of finding what you need.
Step 2: find a few people that are always lending advice to people who are asking questions. As you go through the comments you’ll start to notice a few people that tend to answer questions majority of the time when it comes to anything technical.
Step 3: this is important!! send them a friend request and start asking questions about the machine. If you can get to know these people and build a friendship with them you will probably get their phone number... talk to them, build report, cultivate a friendship, this is what will boost your chances of getting the things you need. These people will also LITERALLY be on speed dial when you have questions relating to your machine and majority of the time if you have their phone number they will be more than happy to help.
Step 4: let these people know what parts you’re looking for. If they don’t have spares themselves they will more than likely know where to get parts or they will keep an eye out and let you know when parts pop up. If you built a real friendship with the “inner circle” of the groups then their access will become your access. Trust me, you WILL find what you need, just keep in mind that sometimes it could take a while to hunt down the parts.... but the more eyes you have looking for parts the faster you’ll find what you need.
Step 5: don’t be a dick, pay it forward. When you are finally at a point where you can find the parts that you need then find someone that is in the same position you used to be and take the next person under your wing. Not only will you help the next guy find their parts, as they grow in the scene of that particular machine they will start to come across parts and deals too and in return you will just broaden your reach for parts.
Bonus step: go to meetups, group rides, and events where people who own those machines meet up together. This is a great place to find parts and meet even more people that might be able to help you in your endeavor. You don’t have to have a running machine to go to the events, you don’t even have to ride the specific model that the meetup showcases. You can go to a 250R meetup on a Kawasaki kfx400 if you have to, they will still be happy to let you tag along and you will have the opportunity to meet people who know about the machine you’re needing parts or help with.
Final thoughts: The ATV community is rather large and there are many “sub divisions” within the community. It doesn’t matter what you currently ride, we are all still in this sport/hobby together. This is how we grow the ATV scene, and this is how you become a knowledgeable person inside of the community. It doesn’t matter what you look like, doesn’t matter where you are from, doesn’t matter where you live, doesn’t matter what you ride, we are ALL still part of the same community so welcome to the neighborhood friend. Get out there and learn, get out there and make friends, get out there and get dirty, and go get some grease under your nails. Nobody is going to look down on you, and if they do then nobody in the ATV community claims them as a friend anyway. It doesn’t matter if you can see the path ahead, just take the first step.... get out and ride!!

@@ThisOldTrike thanks man. I’ve been in the ATV scene since my dad got me started 31 years ago, I was 7. Now I’m getting my 12 and 9 year old daughters into this as well, and with that I’m starting to understand how and why my dad seemed to go out of his was to meet oh so many people as I was growing up. It was networking at its finest. It took me growing up and then having kids wanting to ride for me to really see the importance of making friends within the ATV community. It truly is what keeps ATVs alive for us all to enjoy. That’s why I support ATV channels such as yours and a few other channels, and why I’m starting a channel myself (still trying to come up with a fitting name for my UA-cam project). My goal is to grow the community and make it impossible for manufacturers to give up on the sport ATV industry, although I do still have a healthy respect for all other ATVs... except UTVs lmao!!! The UTV scene is really hurting the ATV industry actually. I’m not “anti UTV”, but I won’t be doing any UTV content because my goal/dream is to rally the true ATV lovers and fanboys to grow the community and put pressure on manufacturers to bring back the sport ATV market. We do stand a good of seeing sport ATVs come back if we can keep growing and introducing new riders.
The channel I’m starting will show versions step by step builds, reviews on parts and gear, we will be doing a podcast for all things sport and utility ATV, dirt bike, and 3 wheeler, and we are planning on traveling to riding parks and tracks around the country and doing reviews on the parks and tracks. The goal is show people where to ride and give them a rating on the amenities, camping/lodging, entry cost and associated costs, trail/track conditions and upkeep, and a rating on how much we enjoyed our time and interactions with staff. We will then take those 1 to 10 point ratings and add them up to give a “overall score” of 0-50 points. It’s to let people know what to expect with each place we go. Eventually we will also show a “from build to track” series where we show the cost and what it takes to build a machine, get to a race, enter the race, and survive the entire event.

I have a huge dealership out here in CA that has a lot of new old stock, I was lucky enough to get a set of actual Honda rear fenders for my 84 ATC 70, literally last set they had deep in storage and found for me. But most things they can’t get, unless it’s carbs, bolts/nuts etc. your info is going to be massively helpful

Great tutorial on searching for hard to find parts, I definitely been using some of them ever since Ebay started and have gotten lucky over the yrs, it's the also the chase/hunt that gets me going more so than wrenching, lol. Also wanted to say Thanks for the CMS site, never heard of that one and am looking forward to seeing if I can find the parts for a future build I'm planning. Thanks for sharing.

I think everyone knows what it takes, but they think u have a magic wand u wave and all these rare and obscure parts show up its hard work researching this stuff and studying the literature... people know this is necessary they just want a cheat code

Parts are starting to get real scares, even on small parts. I couldn't find the Air filter mesh metal screen for my 87 250 Big Red , then finally I seen a decent one on E-bay for $85 bucks! I had to have it. That's the only one of it's kind that fits all the 250 Big Reds Air Box intake, no other model had that size that would fit into the Air Box, unless I'm mistaken. Thanks for the Video on where to go for parts. I've been going to Partzilla, E-bay but forgot about Rocky mountain Atv, Thank You for the reminder👍

Here's another source for ATC parts. Dennis Kirk. I looked on the JC Whitney website and they had nothing, just auto parts, they use to have atv parts back in the 80's.
Oh yeah, lots of places for aftermarket parts. I was keeping this video just focused on Honda OEM parts. Aftermarket parts will be in another video.
I buy most of my dirt bike parts from RMC. They usually ship really quick. It helps that I’m just north of them in a neighboring state. They also price match. As long as it’s an online power sport retailer. I bought a set of fenders for a 200 type II a while back, and they shipped those for free. Motorsport is good too. Babbitt is always high. Don’t buy much at all from them.

Any tips on shipping a frame? I sold an 86 200x frame on ebay but when I tried to ship it, UPS wanted to charge me $400 for shipping. I had to apologize to the buyer and felt terrible. I know someone out there could use it but I cant in good conscience ask someone to pay that much for just a frame.
How about a front end from a 200m? I would like to swap it out on my 84 200es.

The trike is almost done except I’m trying to source a decent gas tank…you mentioned a Chad in NJ which is where I live. Do you think he will be able to help me source a decent tank? Honda Hoarders won’t let me join I guess since I am so new to FB. I just don’t want to get ripped off on EBay. Any help would be appreciated and then I’ll be on to the next trike!
