but the chains are so fair

I spend a lot of time surfing around on UA-cam (mea culpa) but every now and then a piece of Handel crops up, and I am relieved: it is as heart-lifting, as beautiful, as magnificent as ever, and I am grateful that I try to forget that fact because of the joy of realising it again.

Handel used this exquisite melody in another work but at the moment the name of the other work doesn't come to mind."Rodelinda" one of the operas set in the city of Pavia capital of the Longobard kingdom during the "Dark Ages."
