What can one say? Great opening titles. Outstanding cello playing. Gentle but emotive singing. Superb timing of the images. How long must this have taken? They also make me imagine which modern female musician and composer might be depicted in such images. Clara Schumann, Louise Farrenc, Ethel Smyth? The mind boggles at the possibilities.

Yes, and from 1683 to 1703, an annual festival was observed in London on her feast day. John Dryden wrote this poem for the 1687 festival, and that year it was set to music by Italian composer Giovanni Battista Draghi. Handel then used Dryden’s poem for his ode in 1739.
