Axial SCX6 Wheel and Tire Choices / Upgrades

- It is all part of rc crawling - you just can't leave it stock! You have to modify and change the trucks!
One of the biggest changes you can make to any truck is the wheels and tires.
With this new Axial SCX6, it is a little harder than normal - Axial has released a new wheel and tire diameter - so there isn't an aftermarket full of parts just ready to be thrown on there!
Instead, I took a deep dive in my spare wheels bin. I found some of these:
1) Axial Yeti XL wheels (amzn.to/3CO63PD) with RC4WD 40 series Rock Crusher tires (amzn.to/3mAxVkx). This combo surprisingly WORKED!
2) Similar cheap wheels like these (amzn.to/31kx9Qp) with RC4WD Mud Slingers (store.rc4wd.com/Mud-Slingers-...)
3) Arrma Kraton 6S wheels and tires (amzn.to/3muBI2G)
4) Duratrax X-Cons 1/8 Truggy wheels & tires (amzn.to/3w5TYCP)
I attempt to mount all of these, and then we give the Rock Crushers a test run!

2.9’s are what also comes on the Losi 1/6 Baja Rey and Rock Rey. Proline has Hyrax’s in the stock tire size available as well.
Ahhh, good point!
Those are in a medium desert compound which won't give you good grip though. I'm sure they'll release them in G8 and predator compound soon
didnt take you long to add this upgrade the rock crusher wheels and tyres certainly look better and seem to out perform the stock ones
*left a big like👍🏽Au👍🏽always watch in full*
Yes! You know me Billy - not going to leave them alone!
There’s just no stopping that beast
It is a cool truck for sure!
Honestly, sometimes more capable than a 1/10 (large ledges),
but sometimes not...
Sweet! Great tip and I got a set of Rock Crushers sitting around doing nothing👍
Lucky you! That is exactly what happened to me - they were there just collecting dust from previous trucks!
Cool video and tire choices
Thanks!
Thanks for the video rc Brotha
Hope it helped!
Great comparison! 👍👊💯
Thanks!
nice vid 👍 thanks for the wheel comparison 😊 love the rock crushers
I agree - the rock crushers look great!
For my taste - they are tooooo big! Not scale"!
@@rolexr agree too big, just looks great
Hi Friend! Thank you very much! 😊👍2
Thanks for visiting!
Man those rock crushers look and perform really good on. This platform is going to have so much for customization options the price of ones scx6 will easily pass 2k when upgraded to the max! 👊👊👍👍
You got that right! Big $$$ here!
Haha I have those Rock Crushers somewhere and now they are going to get a second chance at life
Nice! They are a fun tire for sure.
Awesome! i hvae those Yei XL Rock Crusher 9 inchers on my 1/6scale Clodbuster custom build with a NewBright F150 -- 16.6 wheelbase and RC4WD old school 3.8's. I cut & shut both the wheels and tires so they are now pizza cutter EXCELLENCE!!! I love those tires to death!!!! priceless and hard to find now adays! I'd say crawling it looks like its on 42's with those big tires --- badazz -- only issu is the wheel looks too big -- like a 28'. Maybe paint the outer ring black to make it disappear a little -- makes the tire wall blend bigger and wheel smaller -- i think thats exac what it needs. I did that with my RC4WD's rock ring -- painted it black -- all the rest is Deep dish polished alum -- looks sick! Would love to see that on your rig for sure. KUDOS!
That is a really good suggestion! Thank you!
NICE! Now we're going to see $200 tire sets coming out. Sweet looking rig tho!
You are right - especially with aluminum wheels!
great info. bro👍 I have subscribed your channel😊
Thank you!
0:48 Wow, I had no idea Rock Crushers came in that size!
They sure do!
I dipped out when you mentioned racing a crawler
Ha! 4S, high-gear, it would be hilarious!

Thanks! I really liked those also!
Yesyes i would deff run the first two it would be unstoppable
It basically was!
Scx6 race class!!! Now I’ll buy one for that!!! 🤣🤣 👊👊👍👍
Glad to hear you think like I do! That would be silly, ridiculous, fun! :)
Yes great minds think alike! 🤣🤣 I know when me and my buddies get our 1/10 crawlers out we always have a couple of races. Just like your balloon smashing video it’s all about just having fun however you interpret fun! Keep it up the great content! 👊👊👍👍
🤣 this rig just makes me laugh so cool
Thanks!
Lol i run rc4wd 40 series rock crusher tires on my cen reaper with an x Maxx Jeep gladiator body. Looks amazing. Little tip you can get any 3.8 wheel like a stock arrma kraton 15 dollar wheel and these 40 series rc4wd tires will glue on it brings the offset out it's perfect for me. And i run 40 series rock crushers on a cheap kraton wheels on 6s never had a problem
Thanks for the tips! Not sure it would have helped with the SCX6 based on the backspacing - but using the Arrma wheels is smart.
haha... With those tires, you've transformed this truck into a go anywhere, go over anything beast. I'm gonna pull the wheel tire combo from the Losi SBR2.0 and give them a try. They are licensed BFG tires and look pretty good as well. I've heard they bolt right on but I think they might require a spacer collar to compensate for the SBR's larger mounting hole. Not sure.
Yes! I used to have a SRR - and would have loved to try those tires.
Just add a small washer under the 10mm nut. It will work.
Beautiful countryside there. What state are you in? Great vid/info. Subbed.
This is all filmed at Big Buddha's RC Ranch - Cookeville, TN.
Thanks for the sub!
Hope you have time to make a new video with some of the new 2.9 tires that have come out since
I really should!
thanks for putting this up where can I buy those rock crawler tires and wheels what size are they? thanks
There should be a direct link in the description where you can purchase them. They are a 3.9" wheel, 40-series tire.
Could you mount those mudslingers to the wheels that the rock crushers or mount it on?
Yes! That would certainly work!
Thoes cheap Amazon wheels look like they’d be great for muddy cross country style trail ride with minimal crawling & more about crossing rivers, mud.
Yes! Makes sense to me!
Do you think a good set of wideners would allow the Axial wheels and Mudslinger tires to mount porperly? How much more clearance would the wheels need to gain? Appreciate the vid
They would!
I'd say approximately another 10-15mm, but didn't measure.
@@RoadsideRC Yes I was looking at this tire and wheel combo for my rig so I am glad I came upon this video. I just love the look of Mudslingers and the Axial wheels have been one of my favorite non-aluminum 40 series wheels. Check around for some wideners and it seems that 10mm is the most popular. May pick some up and give it a try. May need a little lift to for the suspension so it looks right. Thanks for the reply.
Has anyone else noticed on the stock tires, the fronts and rears feel like they either have different foam or are vented differently? On mine and my friends scx6 we can tell when you squish the front and rears by hand they feel different.
I have not! I'll try to see if I can feel a difference!
Did those yeti xl wheels rub your front hubs at all?? I just got a set for my scx6 and they are rubbing in the front. I see your running yours with those monster rc4wd tires and no issues.. can you send a pic of the inside of the yeti wheel mounted on the passenger side at least so I can see clearance..
Sorry - I no longer have this with me.
My understanding is there may be different offsets.
Can you try stock scx6 wheels on Yeti XL?
I'm curious will they fit and how they perform?
I don't have the Yeti XL anymore.
Hello. I did the rock crusher convention with the help of the the guys at my hobby store.
Running the axial ax31274 rims . And that set up is correct but the whole tire hits the shock and the rim hits all the steering. Did you run a spacer kit ? If so which one . Cause this won't run just by slapping them on.
Is there something I'm missing? Thanks
Not sure if that is the same wheel. These wheels were from an Axial Yeti XL. Bolted on just like you see here. Nothing added.
Very well could be. Do you know the width of your wheel and maybe have a picture of the inner wheel hex. That could solve this scooby doo mystery. Lol. Thanks.
👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
I love the bigger ones . Any link ;
Sure thing!
Tires: amzn.to/3qapw9B
Wheels: amzn.to/3ENtQzC
Can you move the front shock top forward in the mounting holes?
I'll need to check - don't have it with me right now.
@@RoadsideRC if it’s possible they just might clear those nice giant rc4wd tires.
yes sir; those are what should have been on it standard lol awesome
I think they are fun!
What about udr wheels and tires?
Might work - I would guess a little too small. I heard people using Super Rock Rey tires.
What is the offset of the stock wheels? (From where the hex hub sits in the rim)
I'm sorry, I don't have the truck to measure it.
How come deep offset of a downfall please I’m really unsure myself😳🙁
I tried to show on each one where it hit.
Put some wheel extensions on the truck 20mm to 30mm .. And then put tires on it again ..
What kind of extension would fit that axle
I thought the same thing!
None of my current 17mm adapters will also fit over the stub shaft sticking out. They are more geared towards 1/10 scale. I need to find something that will work.
I would never take them military looking qheels off
Thanks!
My only thing is I’m getting tired of the jeep body. I wish they could license a bronco or a Land Rover or even do an old-school forerunner
There really isn't any other choices for now. One of the drawbacks of being the only one this size, for sure.
Stock Yeti XL tires should be good option, rock crushers are too tall.
We went through a couple packs with these tires. They are fun!
what is the size of the axles (threaded part the wheel nut screws too) is it 6 or 8mm? (Im aware its 17mm hex)
I'm sorry, I don't know.
Scx6 tire size. 12mm? 17mm.?
17mm
@@RoadsideRC oh. Kk. Its the adapter. Kool kool.
@@almondjoy590 No - it comes with 17mm from the factory.
i want to put hex hub extensions like a +10mm offset to fit deeper wheels - anyone find an extension that works?
Try XMAXX shoes. lol
Good idea! Hex is different, but size is about right.
Hi, I'm writing from Belgium, I didn't understand what type of rim and tire you are using for the video but the result is terrible. Can you please give me the characteristics of the rims and tires in the video in the wood please
Greg,
Hello! Sorry it was hard to understand.
The wheels are from the Axial Yeti XL: amzn.to/3CO63PD
and the tires are from RC4WD 40 series Rock Crusher: amzn.to/3mAxVkx
I hope that helps!
@@RoadsideRC Ok thank you very much, obviously it is very difficult to find delivery to my home in Belgium. I am looking for larger wheels to increase the ground clearance of the axles of my two SCX6s. For the moment I'm riding with the Interco Spr Swamper G8 F/R 2.9" but it's not super extraordinary where I ride.
Your rear window decal is way off center I got a bit more lucky with mine
Hadn't even noticed.
I love my scx6 but I haven’t made any videos on it yet
Hellow
