Here you'll prepare your canvas or panel surface for oil painting. Since most pre-primed store-bought canvases aren't primed well enough, you can substantially improve them with a few additional coats of gesso, or in this case, acrylic paint. I have chosen to use Titanium Buff (deep) for this video because I simply wanted an off-white. I also like to use a warm or neutral gray, the latter of which I have included in the supply list below. Feel free to use whatever you want, especially if you are doing your own personal work. Try to use something with a matte finish if you can.
This has been designed as a free step-by-step instructional series covering the process of painting a bird on a small canvas panel using oil paint. The lessons can be followed using a stretched canvas or a canvas panel. All of the materials needed for the course are available at the link below. Simply hit the button at the bottom of the page to add everything to your cart and proceed through check-out. If you already have some of the items, just remove them from the cart.

Do you provide a copy of the reference photo of the bird anywhere for people who might want to follow along?
