How sad it is to watch these two (Robby Soave and Nomiki Konst) discuss this topic. If Tony Dokoupil wants to wear two hats (reporter and CBS presenter), he is duty bound to disclose any bias he has. Sadly for Dokoupil, he displayed his unprofessionalism/bias when he made the 'backpack' reference. In Tony's mind, he characterized any support for the Palestinian plight as one shared by a sympathizer/terrorist.
What made the situation worse were those two African Americans sitting next to him SILENT, LOOKING DOWNWARD, and possibly afraid to push back on Tony's extreme questioning. Tony is not a reporter as his bias is extreme and ill-informed. He spoke of the agency Palestinians have YET cannot fathom the lack of agency a group under an apartheid-like oppression does not have.
Robby: The questioning from Tony is not a crime but please show us any CBS interview where a pro Israeli official/journalist showed the restraint Ta-Nehisi Coates showed under similar strong questioning of clear Palestinian oppression. The whole world is watching!

      @loveontopfan3100 День тому

Mr. Coates has ZERO obligation to show the side of Israel or to support or justify their deplorable treatment of Palestinians. He was there to give a voice to the plight of Palestinian people who the U.S. media has deliberately silenced and/or distorted by implying that they are not human beings worthy of human rights.
Dokoupil, like many of his main stream media colleagues are NOT journalists. They are talking head propogandists for an Israeli state that has gone off the deep end into violent madness. They have JUSTIFIED the killing of innocent Palestinian women and children as well as the brutal occupation that they live in under Israeli rule. It's shameful. And I, for one, am glad that people like Mr. Coates are finally calling out their hypocrisy in public for the world to see.

Whatever you think about the merits of Coates' argument or of Dokoupil's questions, if you think TD should be censured you're in favor of a police state. None of us like to hear the other side's position, but are we really comfortable with the other side being PUNISHED for disagreeing with us? Ok it was an aggressive interview--that's a style of interviewing that we tend to approve of when the one being interviewed is someone we don't like. Can we afford to censure journalists when we are in favor of the one being interviewed? I would even say, again regardless of what one's position is, TD's questions worked because they elicited much more substantive responses from TC than softball questions would have. But my biggest point is, if you're in favor of this brand of censure, don't complain when it happens to someone on your side.

As a Black person myself, it truly saddens me to see how many Black people are oblivious or unaware of the involvement of Jewish people in the fight for desegregation and Civil Rights in the USA, and against Apartheid in South Africa.
On the latter topic, a simple Google search will quickly bring up at least 50 names of just South African Jews. Some are relatively well know; like Joe Slovo, Helen Suzman, a confidante and friend of Nelson Mandela.
In the US, Michael Schwerner, and Adrew Goodman, were Jewish Civil Rights activist activists who were murdered, along with African-American activist James Chaney, in Mississippi, during the summer Freedom Summer Civil Rights campaign of 1964.
While there were a few/rare Arabo-Muslims supporters of those fights, like the late Col. Ghaddafi, they are very few and far between.
In fact, many parts of the Arabo-Muslim world clung to slavery (of dark-skinned people) for as long as possible, until the nineteen-seventies.
It seems to be a little known fact that the practice of enslavement by the Arabo-Muslims was more cruel (systematic castration of Black males, grappes, etc ...), and it lasted much longer than in the Western hemisphere.
To watch some Black brothers/sisters mindlessly embrace the so-called “Palestinian cause" cause", is another painful clue of how poorly educated and informed people are, in general, nowadays.
Organisations like Hamas and/or Hezbollah are not fighting for a 2 states solution. In the Arabo-Muslim World, there are 2 parts: the Dar-al-Islam, and the Dar-al-Harb. These mean; the land of submission, and the land of conflict/warfare.
The latter is described as such because the true/good believers are required to fight, until all lands become part od the Dar-al-Islam.
Due to the meanderings of History, the ancestral land of the Jewish people became part of the Dar-al-Islam, as it was part of the Caliphates, then the Ottoman empire.
Fortunately, after centuries of yearning, the Jewish people was re-instated in a country o their own, in their ancestral land.
For many (Hamas, Hezbollah, and many others), who think that this is a de-sacration of the Dar-al-Islam, it is an abomination.
This has resulted in incessant attacks against Isreal, no matter what she does. Israel pulled out of Gaza in 2005. That wasn't enough for the Palestinians.
The fact that Palestinians organisations have been willing to devote billions of dollars to making/launching rockets and other weapons toward Israel, should baffle anyone with common sens.

CBS News executives said Monday that a heated morning show interview with acclaimed author Ta-Nehisi Coates, during which his new book was compared to “extremist” writings, did not meet the network’s editorial standards.
CBS executives told staffers during a daily editorial meeting that the contentious “CBS Mornings” interview last week with Coates, led by co-anchor Tony Dokoupil, had been addressed with Dokoupil.
The assessment pacified some employees who had objected to Dokoupil’s tone during the segment with Coates. But it offended other employees who thought Dokoupil’s interview was appropriately tough.

One could easily argue that Palestinians have more rights in Israel than Israelis have in Gaza or Lebanon etc. Especially considering Jews aren't allowed to live in those areas at all. Why doesn't that bother Coates? BTW, visiting Israel one time and then assuming you're now armed enough to make a valid critique is a bit thin. What's the old saying: Read one book and you'll be an expert on that subject. Read ten books on that same subject and you realize how much you still don't know.

It's not abnormal that you lose some territory. That's what happened to Germany (2nd and 3rd Reichs), Japan, the Ottoman empire, etc ... Millions of "ethnic Germans" who had lived in Eastern Prussia, or the Baltic states, or The Sudettes (Tchekoslovakia), had to pack and leave their farms, businesses, etc, in the midst of abuse, grappes, etc ...
