In this video I introduce a new product I've developed and brought to market. I call it the Double Taper sanding disc. It's a sanding disc to be used in your table saw and will make sanding the edges of work pieces much easier and more accurate. It will help with glue-ups, door and face frame construction, and a multitude of other tasks in the shop. Feel free to ask questions.
This is a product I truly believe can improve your woodworking, its easy, fast, and gives very high quality results. If you enjoy my videos, purchasing a disc for your shop is a great way to help support my channel.

Finally, I got the disc out of the box and on to the table saw. Let start by saying it does everything that Mike says it will do. I started with end sanding a couple of raised panel doors and it work perfect . I don't have a sled for my table saw so I set the fence up and went slowly. The ends are now perfectly smooth so smooth you almost can't see the mill work where the style and rail come together. A caution for all potential users. I would suggest you have a blank throat plate that you can customize for use with this disc. It is rather thick too thick obviously for my zero clearance plate, too thick for a standard plate and a dado plate's slot is not long enough. Luckily I had a blank throat plate. It did take some playing around with multiple blades and even a dado set to get the slot just right. All-in-all great addition to my shop.
Thank you very much for the positive feedback. I agree with the suggestion for a custom throat plate. Good idea Donald.
Just finished 27 new doors for my kitchen remodel...was able to sand the doors to perfection. After sanding all the doors on four sides, I still am using the original sanding disc.
@@donaldpyles2891 Donald, that is really great to hear. Cleaning up the edges of doors has always been a challenge. That is one of my favorite uses for this disc.
I just ordered mine and am anxiously awaiting delivery! I came back here today to see if anybody has posted any specs on the throat plate opening, but I guess I'm out of luck. I will post the specs for mine when finished.
I wish I could give you more information but honestly I just played with it until it worked. Now I have changed table saws and have to start again. Best of luck@@bullfrogpondshop3179
I actually used to ask my husband if there was such a "device." This is super exciting and it's great you've brought this to fruition!!
Thank you. I always appreciate you comments.
I’ve seen you use the other, inferior, edge sanding disc and thought I should get one... now I’m sold, on yours! Always happy to support makers!
Thank you very much!
I was mulling buying one of the ones you recommended before, but I'm glad I waited. I really enjoy your channel and hope the purchase helps keep the great content flowing.
Thank you very much. Yes, purchasing a disc will help support my channel.
So I ordered my disk a few days ago. Got it yesterday and used it today. Great addition to my kit. Really like it and super stoked on how quickly you got it to me. Thanks a ton Mike.
That is some good news. Thank you John.
I bought one last year; used it for the first time today to sand edges on cabinet doors. They came out buttery smooth. Great investment!
Thank you. That is really great to hear.
After 30 years of edge sanding the hard way, I'm delighted to see a tool to make the job easier. Great idea Mike. As usual, great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
This was Shopsmith's idea, about 50 years ago. But good to see someone offering it for a table saw, and the double taper is great.
Mike - You are, dare I say, brilliant! I have been using this now for about 9 months. It is one of my most favorite things in the shop. I hate sanding edges. I used to sand by hand (no belt sander) to keep as flat as possible, time consuming and never flat. One or two passes with the disc and I'm done. Now I have beautifully flat, crisp edges. Rock on!!!
Thank you very much. That is great to hear. It really is a neat tool for sanding edges.
Such a great idea to have the 2 sided. The one thing i will say is i been watching your videos for a couple years and noticed you using one way before this came out so i know you really stand behind this product. Thank you
Yes, for the person who needs to sand the edges of lots of parts, this disc is invaluable.
Will be getting this for my husband for MY birthday next month... Afterall, most of the projects he does are for me! :D
Ha! Well thought out. Get him some good tools, then a list of projects.
😜🤣👍
I bought the disc you used to have last time you showed it. It’s such a necessary item in the shop. Well worth the money. This double bevel would sure be handy.
Thats great to hear. They work great for sure.
Ordered this a couple months ago, have used it a couple times now, and it's fantastic. Great design, high quality tool and worth the investment. I'll also add that it was shipped out quickly, thanks!
Thank you for the feedback. That is really great to hear.
Best $160 tool investment ever. Such a great product and excellent quality. Just like previous comments by Donald I just completed kitchen cabinet doors and this disc saved an incredible amount of time that I was able to spend with family instead of being buried in a major sanding project. Thank you Mike for providing this great product. Also thank you for the excellent customer service!
That is great to hear. Thank you very much.
I'm about to updrade to a Sawstop and have thought about keeping my old saw around for "some" reason. This is a perfect solution. Permanently set up with a sanding disco...no need to swap blades constantly. Thanks Mike.
That is a really good idea.
I just installed/used mine for the first time. It worked flawlessly. I can’t believe how crisp my joints are after this!
Ha! That is great to hear. Thank you for sharing.
I love the products my favorite makers have come up with. This is gonna be my next gift to myself!
Thank you very much.
Can’t wait for mine! Congratulations on bringing it to market.
Thanks Michael.
I am thoroughly satisfied! The quality of sanding and keeping a 90 degree edge was impressive. I use a jobsite Sawstop and the disc beautifully erased all burn and cut marks from maple I ripped. I am happy I made this purchase!
That is really neat to hear, thank you for sharing.
I love it,I've been using mine daily to sand rip cuts and beveled trim pieces for jewelry boxes, it's very well balanced and does a great job ! I plan to purchase a second disc when Mike offers the finer grits that he spoke about in this video.
Thank you very much. I have recently updated the website and I am now offering 150 and 180 grit paper.
Mike tonight I finally fitted your sanding disc to my saw… it is amazing.
Just bought this and cleaned up saw burn marks off 60 battens in under an hour. Great tool!
That is really great to hear. Thank you for the feed back.
Looking forward to getting mine setup in my saw. Just ordered one now and after seeing all of the positive feedback on this video and all of the fantastic work you demonstrate in your videos, I knew I had to make the purchase.
Thank you. I think you'll find it a very useful tool. Let me know how it works out.

Got this a few weeks back but finally put it to use. Fantastic tool! What would have been an afternoon of sanding plywood drawer parts took all of 10 minutes. Awesome!
That is some really great feedback. Thank you very much.
I just used mine for the first time!!!
I love the results and the MDF edges are church!!
Thank you very much. Great to hear.
Just ordered one. I have been thinking about a drum sander for my challenge coin display business. This will work wonders for me. Excited to receive it when you get more in. Thanks, Mike. Love your videos.
Thank you very much. Hope you like it.
Thank you Mike !
I hope you have enough i can get mine before you sell out!
Also I really appreciate all you videos, you have helped me to be so much more efficient, so many good tips!
Again a big thanks from Martin!
Thank you very much, unfortunately, I'm sold out, but my next batch will be done in just a couple weeks. I will be shipping out shortly after that.
It's funny, John Heisz just did a recent video where he added a piece of sandpaper to a saw blade. If I remember correctly he was trying to cut and sand at the same time. It was an interesting idea, then I remembered seeing you using a table saw sanding disc setup on a few videos. Cool stuff sir.
Timing is funny. I saw that video as well, I don't know if it will hurt or help the performance of this video. That idea wasn't original to John. Look up Final Cut Saw blades. I used to have one about 10 years ago. I used it on my chop saw for installing crown.
I saw Mike Farrington use this blade/sander before I John Heisz made that video. So since Johns video has over a million views hopefully this will be recommended by YT and help mike out 👌🏼
@@JoniAntonio John has a really big channel and puts out very good videos, when his do really well, its not a surprise to me. Time will tell if it helps me or not.
I also saw you using the edgetech awhile back as well and I thought it was very interesting. I even left a comment on John's video saying I had seen Mike using something similar on multiple videos and I believe I gave the Mike Farrington channel name for anybody that was interested. I just thought it was funny that I'd left that comment and then see you put up a video about you making your version of the Sanding blade. Good luck and keep up the videos I really enjoy your content.
@@2HME Thank you. That is always nice when someone takes the time to mention me.
Awesome dude! I wish you had this out a month ago. I just bought a Freud sanding and alignment disc. I'll save for one of yours as that double side sanding surface is a great idea!
Thank you.
Just ordered one! Have a large outdoor project with lots of slats and boards for the top. This will save me a lot of time!
Thats great. This will help for sure.
Great idea, Mike. Your videos are excellent. I like your focus on technique. Great shop too!
Thank you very much!
Shared to the book of faces.
Great looking and useful product. When I'm ready ill be sure to throw some cash your way Mike!
Thank you as always for sharing your experience and knowledge with us mortals who are making splinters but working towards making projects!
Your price point seems very fair. 150 dollars and will outperform any spindle sander combo out there.
Thank you very much. I hope you are right regarding the price. I know for myself, and how much use I get out of these things, its totally worth it. Hopefully the marketplace agrees.
Nice work Mike! Well thought out to give a safe and excellent result!
Thank you very much David.
You answered my question when you brought up the use of a block of wood to outfeed side. My question was going to be asking if a feather board could be used to to hold the work piece against the fence on the out board side. It looks like a great product, and if I had a real tablesaw, I would definitely consider buying one.
Feather boards or other holding devices are always a good idea.
I like how useful it is for MDF, sounds fantastic!
Yup, works great for MDF.
Excited for mine to show up! I'm about to build some cabinet doors, should come in super handy.
Thats great. It is a great help when building doors.
Thanks for explaining the taper. I’ve seen these types of disks in the past and was concerned about kickback. Your explanation and drawing helped alleviate those concerns.
Thank you.
As promised everything is high quality. The disc is well machined and is very smooth. No machining marks at all. Sandpaper is thick and of high quality as well. Came shipped neatly with the sandpaper and is ready to go. Thanks Mike!
Thank you for the feedback. Great to hear you're happy thus far.
I've seen you use this disc in some of your videos and was intrigued. I'm glad I found this video focusing on the set up, use and maintenance of the disc. It provided me with the information needed to go ahead and order the disc. I'm building a 14' x 12' wall unit in my wife's office that will feature a library ladder. I'll be using this to sand the individual face frame components which I anticipate will be an incredible time saver.
For face frame work, this disc will save you a ton of time, and give better results.
Always a pleasure to watch your videos, woodworking genius
Thank you very much.
Right on Mike. Found your channel recently & love all the videos. Great job bother
Thank you.
Mine just got here today. Headed out to the shop shortly to take it for a test drive!!! Will report back shortly!
That is some really good news!
I love the design to reduce kickback - looks like a useful tool Mike
Thanks Nick.
Old trim carpenter i bought my very first table saw several years ago told me about this trick and included a straight disc in the purchase... He also used circular saw blades in the cabinet saw because he said they were were cheap and had a thin kerf.
Thank you. Taper vs flat is really no comparison.
Just found this and it sounds like a great new use for the table saw. It looks like it could also be used for traditional disc sanding work, but would be easier if one side were flat instead of tapered.
People with big shops/budgets may buy a second small table saw just for this similar to having a small secondary band saw for dedicated small blades.
Thank you. The taper on two sides allows for two different grits without having to change. As to the second saw I have a few customers who have setup a second saw and really like it.
Hello Mike, congrats for your new tool, wish you all the best in this venture!
Thank you very much, thats kind to say.
@@MikeFarrington I really mean it, if with success comes a lot of money, even better, money is liberty and time, when you have a lot, means you get to choose what you want to do and when you feel like it!
@@tonyioannoni4951 All I've ever wanted was to earn a decent living in the woodworking industry. If I can do that and have some more time with my wife and kids, and this product helps with that. I will consider this the biggest success of my career. Oh and as a side benefit, my videos could get more interesting, if I'm able to tackle projects of my own design and I have some more budget to put into them.
After seeing Mike use one in his videos past, I bought one that has a three degree taper... and my saw can only go two degrees past 90 with the positive stop removed. The other side is flat. I love this, Mike. Definitely going to buy one!
That is part of my reasoning for the 2 degrees. That particular disc was what I recommended for a while. After a couple months I had a bunch of people email me stating the disc wasn't or wouldn't stay flat. I don't think its thick enough or machined well enough. Fortunately its cheap enough to where its not a huge loss.
Mike Farrington absolutely. Worth the money in my opinion as an experiment to find what features I would like to see. Yours nails it.
@@elfutbolphenom Thats good to hear and I think a good way to think about it.
Looks like a fantastic addition to any workworking shop. I'll be saving my pennies to get one!
Thank you. Let me know if you have any questions.
Exactly what I need. I timed myself on sanding multiples of the same project 2 days ago. Sanding for each unit's pieces took me 30 minutes. This would cut that down to probably 5 minutes. Time is money!
I found the same issue with my work. Especially the inside edges of doors and face frames.
What in the world were you building that needed 30 minutes of edge sanding?
You have done a very good job of describing the disk and it's use. Your diagram in excellent. The function is quite simple when you think about it for a minute or so. I had a similar disk in the late 1970's. I believe it came from Sears (Craftsman). It was only tapered on one side. It worked very well but as I recall I quit using it because I hated changing saw blades.
Thank you. I have seen the older craftsman discs. Very similar to mine. I understand not wanting to change discs, to each their own.
Just got mine yesterday! Thanks Mike!!
Thank you very much.
Great idea! Shopsmith has had their conical sanding disk for a long time. It is a great addition to the shop.
Thank you. There have been a few to make this type of disc over the years. Craftsman was another way back in the day. None of those had the taper on both sides though.
Love your videos Mike! keep them coming!
Thank you, will do.
I had one made like 12 years ago, wasn't my idea, I saw one in another shop and had to have one. I sold the saw and it with it as I bought a new saw with a 30mm arbour, I regretted it as I sold that saw now too. Back to hobby woodworking now. They do work amazing! Feather boards or a feeder is a must.
Thank you, they do work good. Thats cool you had one made.
Got mine ordered Mike! Thanks for developing this.
Thank you very much. I ship it out as soon as I can.
Mike Farrington psyched! I’ll definitely give it a mention in a video.

Good luck with this Mike, Great idea .
Thank you.
Excellent presentation. I wish I discovered this technique sooner...it would have saved me time on a box project. Just today, I finished. I'm sure you understand the difficulty cutting perfect joints in hardwood (maple, walnut, oak) using a table saw - it's excruciating. Even after tuning my saw and using sleds, I could never get it exactly right; and, this whole notion of using a sanding disk the way you've illustrated - hey - it's new to me . . . and I own one (cough Craftsman sanding disk cough cough), I never knew it could be used like that! uhg. Just the same, thank you for the presentation. Looks like an awesome product you've created. :-)
Thank you. Its a helpful way to sand projects.
Ive been a woodworker over 60 yrs. this type of plate was available year’s ago. Don’t know why it didn’t become popular, seems like a good idea
The reason it didn't take off is it needs a detailed presentation for people to fully get the what and why.
Really cool, I think the best part is explaining the taper. At first, I was like 🤔 and then I was like 🤯
Thank you. The taper is key.
I have a Craftsman 10 in tapered sanding disk. They work great. I like the double sided idea.
Thank you. The double sided idea was simply a product of wanting to change grits easily.

So glad you’re selling these. I’ve been looking for one - they are hard to find! Will be ordering soon
Thank you. Yup, someone needed to do it.
Mike Farrington yikes. $150 though? That’s like 4x the price of the others. Are you getting these manufactured yourself?
@@ShopTherapy623 I consider 150 to be fair relative to quality. The cheaper ones seem to have problems. I have recommended the cheaper version for a while, and I ended up with a ton of emails saying it wobbled.
@@ShopTherapy623 I'm currently doing a batch of items that takes right at 30 minutes to sand the pieces for each unit. I figure this disc will cut that down to 5 minutes. So saving 50 minutes per hour seems pretty cool to me. On the low end, at $30/hour shop charge, that's 6 hours of "not" sanding to pay for the disc. That would be 12 units in my case. I planned on cranking out 32 of these a week, and the sanding is definitely the bottleneck. 32 units are estimated at 44 hours. With the time savings this disc could save, those same 32 units will take an estimated 36 hours. I could make another 6-8 units per week which translates into $400-500 extra profit per week.
So to sum up:
1. I can save about 2 hours per day by using this disc to sand.
2. I can pay for this disc after saving 6 hours of sanding which is only 3 days.
3. I can make up to an additional 8 units per week which will translate into up to $500 in profit per week. The first week there would actually only be a $350 profit. But subsequential weeks would be $500.
4. And you're supporting a small business instead of a name brand.
Jason Peltier I get that, and no doubt these are probably better than the cheaper ones and will end up making you money if you’re a professional woodworker. As a hobbyist, they’re just a little out of my price range.
I don’t even have my own table saw yet... but this has been added to my shopping list!
Thank you. Thats great to hear.
Finally placed an order for this a couple of minutes ago. I'm about to make a bunch of MDF wainscotting and I think this will be a huge timesaver in getting the edges ready for paint
Thank you. When it comes to cleaning the edges of MDF, that is a time consuming job. This disc will help greatly.
@@MikeFarrington the disk showed up today. I couldn't get a full 2° negative tilt on my sawstop but I'll look into that tomorrow. Set up the fence on the left side of the blade and ran about 200lf of mdf through it and I gotta say I am very impressed with the result. This is going to save me a massive amount of time.
@@DarrenRashJr Try raising the blade height. That should create some clearance and allow for the full 2 degrees.
@@MikeFarrington I'll give that a shot, thanks
I just ordered a new disc, "Gee Nate what happened to the one you have been using?" asked no one, "Its not a Farrington disc" I never replied.
If you have never used this technic you are missing out on a great way to handle edges, Extremely fast, whenever Mike started putting out videos and showed the usefulness of the Mighty disc, I immediately ordered one, A couple years and a few thousand feet of wood later Zakk (my son) and I find ourselves holding hands and singing kumbaya ,because our lives are that much better, So I ordered a new one because its the least I could do to support Mike, the boardroom and all those little apprentices.
