When I do I'll be sure and take some videos and pictures to send your way as my collection grows. As always loving the videos!

Years late to the party. but thank you for this. I'm looking at getting a few A. Hentzi and A. Chalcodes slings in the next week or two. I knew they were slow growers and to expect years of care before they are fully grown. But I was hoping to find exactly this, to get a better idea of their early growth rate since just time to full maturity only says so much. I had imagined their early growth would be a fair bit faster, maybe around an inch or so after the first year, But It looks like the first few enclosure setups I had planned for the first year or so may well take 2-3 to outgrow. Neat, I'm totally cool with that, just hope at least one turns out to be a female

Great video Tom. Your timing is always awesome. I got my first 2 Aphonopelma slings last week. I wasn’t expecting them but they were to replace something else. I got A. Hentzi and A. Jonnycashi, they’re both so tiny. About half the size of your slings there.
thank you very much for the video, great to see a rehousing of tiny slings. Do you have another one with faster slings or in case not would you mind to make one? Bigger spiders are easier for me, I still struggle with controlling the tiny ones though.
Hey, Alexander! I could definitely put something together! I'll just have to see what I have! :) Yeah, the tiny slings can be so fast and unpredictable!
Thanks for another great video Tom. I dug up my A. chalcodes (maybe a .5" ) half way through this video as you noted they might stay down for to long and it was 49 days since I had last saw mine. Sure enough, didn't molt and still alive and kicking. Hopefully she feeds in the next few days. BTW: Are those containers those die cast car containers? I've been trying to find ones like that in Canada but no luck unless you want to spend roughly $10-20 / pc which I'm not doing.
Thanks so much, Justin! Hopefully, she feeds for you soon. These little buggers can definitely fast. And yes they are! Yeah, $10-20 is NOT worth it! Yikes!
I have waited about 16 months. Im rehousing this asshole.. its gotta earn its keep. Shake dat azz. Im not taking care of dirt anymore with a dog n pony show.
Hey Tom!! Binge watching your videos!! I sent you a message through your website about a week ago about my Hentzi. I have an unexpected sac!! Can juvies/young adults lay infertile sacs? She’s about 3 inches or so now. Love the content!! Thanks!!!
Why, thank you, Tabitha! And I'm so sorry about not resonding! I thought that I was all caught up. :( A juvenile should not be able to create viable sac (as long as it's a juvenile and not a young adult). She is probably creating a phantom sac. I've actually seen juvenile males that make fantom sperm webs before they are mature as well. Sometimes, these guys are just ready to go! haha Keep me updated, and thank you!
@@TomsBigSpiders thank you!! No apology needed! I know you’re super busy!! I just didn’t want to toss a potential good sac. Not that I’m ready for babies either. Lol!!
Hi my amazing teacher. I have not seen my OBT for about 8 months. What should I do. Should I dig it out, or should I whate and see what happens. If I destoys de web in the opening, it returns a few Days later. So it seems it's alive. Best wishes from Bo. And a big hug to your camera women. 😊
Well, thank you so much! :) If it's replacing its webbing, it's alive. In that case, I wouldn't dig it up. What size is it? I'm assuming that it isn't eating either?
Hey Tom, just stumbled upon your UA-cam channel the other night and found a lot of your videos very informative and helpful, so I subscribed immediately. 😁 Do you have any videos on P. Regalis or know any other tarantula UA-camrs like you that you’d recommend? Thanks again and keep them coming!
Thank you so much for the subscription! I truly appreciate it! I thought that I had one on the P. regalis, but I'm not finding it! I do have this one that is an overview of the genus with care notes: ua-cam.com/video/qYRRqkAXfjk/v-deo.html You could also check out Mark's Tarantulas and Tarantula Haven...they have great stuff.
Hi Tom! Do you have a video or some other documentation about rehousing a tarantula (specifically an Aphonopelma species) that is in a deep burrow in the enclosure? I'm not comfortable with the flooding technique...
I definitely would NOT try the flooding technique. I did a video on that showing what happens when it doesn't work. The best way, in my opinion, is to dig it out. And here you go! ua-cam.com/video/1YqAxyX3moc/v-deo.html Hope that helps, Laikin! :)
So what is your favorite Aphonopelma other than the Chalcotes? Just for future reference. I only have one from that genus so far. I picked up an A Geniculata sling the other day. Won't have to wait for ever for it to get big! Thanks.
Hi, Jeffrey! Maybe the A. seemanni? That was my second tarantula ever. However, I'll have to see after these guys grow up. :) Yeah, you won't have long to wait with the genic! haha :)
Hey Tom, could you do a video on the Aphonopelma genus revision? I'm interested to know why a whole new genus, tliltocatl, was created but I don't want to wade through a dry scientific paper about it lol.
🕷I really wanna get boxes like those, I cant find them any where around where I live. You said you got those from fear not? I love seeing baby Ts they are just so darn cute! 🕷
I'm pretty sure they are just around the same size as a clear display case for like diecast cars. You could probably find some online and drill cross ventilation, that's what I use for all my slings.
Hello, Brian! I believe that they sell them at the Hobby Lobby and on Amazon. They are made for Hotwheels/Matchbox Cars. As for the A. serratum, there isn't all that much out there on them. I would check with Arachnoboards and see if anyone posted about them.
They are the ones made for the 1/64 scale cars (like Hot Wheels). Thank you Tom again. I just have a question. I've emailed you a couple times but I know how busy you must be so let me just ask here real quick. So the way to tell slings NW vs OW is because of the little black spot which is indictive of urticating hairs is that correct? Thank you Tom
What? When did you email me? What was the address? I'm so sorry! Most of the new worlds have some type of little patch on their abdomens which is a give away.
Hi Tom. Hope you can see this comment. Can you make a vid on the feeding? Some slings are really small and idk how to feed them. Plus the A. Hentzi I have always try to escape(it loves to hang near the top of the deli cup)
@@TomsBigSpiders yes and no. I'll try to do it soon then. It keeps going up to the top and stay there. Recently made 2 burrows but dont stay in them. I have to watch the t while opening the lid otherwise it could run out
Hey, California! Yeah, if you got one now as a sling, you'll likely be in your 20s by the time it's an adult. haha. They are SOOOOO SLOOOOWWWW with the growth rates. haha Thanks!
I have a tiny A hentzi 5mm i cant seem to find anything small to feed it i chop up some mealworms but I realised that it doesn’t the worm but it digs it fangs inside the worm. How often should i feed these slings as I’ve never had these species?
Chopped up meal worms or crickets legs work great for them. Sometimes when they are really small, it may seem like they aren't eating when they really are. I feed mine twice a week because I like to check on them.
Really enjoyed this video. I have an a. mooreae sling that I got last February. So coming up on a year in a few months and I was pleased to see that she grew from about 1/4 inch to 3/4 inch in that time. 😂 maybe in another 5 years we will see some colors! Sooo slowwww!
Hahahaha. They just take soooo long to grow! lol It's their only real downside, in my opinion. I'll be retired by the time mine has her colors. haha. Thanks, Allie!
Hey Tom, quick question. I have caught my LP out of his burrow a lot and he his definitely outgrowing it. But every time I go near it, it retreats in its undersized burrow. Should I dig him out of his burrow in order to rehouse him?
If the spider looks like it is outgrowing the enclosure then yes I would, but if it's just getting big for it's burrow I wouldn't worry about it. The t will dig it out and expand it to where it feels comfortable.
How large is your LP? Mine all used their burrows less and less as they put on more size. If the enclosure still offers enough space for it overall, they you're fine. If the enclosure is starting to look too small, then I would rehouse.
My A. chalcodes is probably about 3/16" dia. and I know I'm supposed to keep the substrate moist but they keep gravitating toward the dry part of their enclosure (in a deep burrow). I'm guessing my bebbie T knows what it's doing but it still makes me nervous that they'll be too dry. Ermmm... What do I do?😳😬
Hello, Liz! For the A. chalcodes, I usually keep the lower levels moist and let the top levels dry out. Not only does that sometimes encourage them to burrow, but it allows them to pick the moisture level that they need. If yours is gravitating toward the dry end, that's totally fine!
Thank you so much! I'm honestly not sure if there are any local ones. Would you consider mail ordering them? That's what I do because it's illegal to sell them in my state.
This is totally off subject, but has anyone here ever raised N. Chromatus before? I bought a sling exactly a year ago, about 1/2 maybe 3/4 of an inch, and within one year this thing is a smaller adult with tibial hooks. Is this normal?
Hi, Mick! WOW...what are your temperatures? I raised a female from a sling. I've had her for 5 years and she's still not fully grown. What size is yours?
Gosh they are tiny. They look like big eggs with legs. They must live a long time. Do the males grow faster than the females? If so, you must have a lot of females.

A juvenile should not be able to create viable sac (as long as it's a juvenile and not a young adult).
Lol!!
Hey Tom great video as always I've been wanting to collect the Aphonopelma sp. now you helped peak my interest thanks for sharing 😉
Cool vid ma man!
Thanks so much, Justine!
Hey tom it’s been a year since this video you should do a update video of these ?!!
I will eventually, Right now, they pretty much look exactly the same. haha
If it's replacing its webbing, it's alive. In that case, I wouldn't dig it up. What size is it? I'm assuming that it isn't eating either?
Hi Tom. I have not seen it since March. But, to day, I sprayed the inclousher, and the subtrate jumped.
Best wishes from Bo.
I do have this one that is an overview of the genus with care notes: ua-cam.com/video/qYRRqkAXfjk/v-deo.html
You could also check out Mark's Tarantulas and Tarantula Haven...they have great stuff.
And here you go! ua-cam.com/video/1YqAxyX3moc/v-deo.html
Hope that helps, Laikin!
I actually made one but didn't post it. haha. Yes, I can. :)
Isn’t that for brachypelma??
@@waterbottle8692 Yes, it is. Haha. I just assumed that was what he meant. :)
🕷I really wanna get boxes like those, I cant find them any where around where I live. You said you got those from fear not? I love seeing baby Ts they are just so darn cute! 🕷
Hi, Stephanie! Oh no! Yeah, I got just about all of these from Fear Not. Hopefully, you're able to find some!
Ferrero Rocher boxes are quite similar, and you get free chocolates!
I'm pretty sure they are just around the same size as a clear display case for like diecast cars. You could probably find some online and drill cross ventilation, that's what I use for all my slings.
@@GoatedExile Yup, that appears to be what they are, Patrick! Thank you!
I don't think Fear Not actually sells just the enclosures anymore, which is a total bummer, I believe they only include them in the complete packages.
Great rehouse Video
Thanks so much, Channy!
Where did you get those little enclosures? Also, can you give me any references to information on Aphonopelma serratum(Mexican chocolate)? Thanks.
Hello, Brian! I believe that they sell them at the Hobby Lobby and on Amazon. They are made for Hotwheels/Matchbox Cars. As for the A. serratum, there isn't all that much out there on them. I would check with Arachnoboards and see if anyone posted about them.
Where do you buy these containers
Hi, David! I got those from Fear Not, but I think that you can find them online at hobby stores. They are meant for Hotwheels/Matchbox cars.
What are those larger sling containers called?? I would like to pick up a few online if possible.
They are the ones made for the 1/64 scale cars (like Hot Wheels). Here is a link to similar ones at Walmart. www.walmart.com/ip/Clear-Acrylic-Display-Case-For-1-64-Scale-Cars-3-5-x-1-75-x-1-625/146639546?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=554&adid=22222222227000000000&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=42423897272&wl4=pla-51320962143&wl5=9003295&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=111838658&wl11=online&wl12=146639546&veh=sem&gclid=CjwKCAiA8ejuBRAaEiwAn-iJ3p4CQWETUUuliKd0rSUzhRuQjUbP4Vz1mPh1oYsnIMVGMsnH5G-BEhoCy7YQAvD_BwE
I can definitely work on something! Does the A. hentzi have some room to burrow? Is the bottom layer of substrate moist?
@@TomsBigSpiders yes and no. I'll try to do it soon then. It keeps going up to the top and stay there. Recently made 2 burrows but dont stay in them. I have to watch the t while opening the lid otherwise it could run out
Great rehousings! I love Aphonopelmas but I really don’t like the idea of the slings slow growth rate, I bet it’s really worth it though! 😁🕷
Hey, California! Yeah, if you got one now as a sling, you'll likely be in your 20s by the time it's an adult. haha. They are SOOOOO SLOOOOWWWW with the growth rates. haha Thanks!
5:45 Is it just me or is that a rather well-fed li'l cantaloupe?
It sure is! haha
Tom Moran thanks alot tom never thought of a cricket leg good idea .
@@TomsBigSpiders thank you SO MUCH for putting my mind at ease!!!
I have Dessert Substrat is IT good?
It depends. If it's sand, not so much. They like to burrow and sand won't hold a burrow.
@@TomsBigSpiders thanks
wow. good information!! I'm new in this hobby. i have a question. I'm in the east coast. do you know any good sellers near Philadelphia?
Thank you so much! I'm honestly not sure if there are any local ones. Would you consider mail ordering them? That's what I do because it's illegal to sell them in my state.
If these are 2 years old, I dont think I'll ever get an aphonopelma sling. I'm way too impatient.
It helps to have lot of other faster growing spiders to distract you. hahaha
8:50 PUPPY!!!!
Hahaha. That's Lilly! She's pushing 15 now. Love that girl. :)
Lol glad u dont edit out the dogs in the background 😂
Ha! They're just part of the videos now. lol
Why haven't you gotten into the sicarius or phoneutria
Ephebopus cyanognathus
Great video. Love the fucking hoodie!!!!
Hahahaha. Thanks, Chance! :) \m/
8:00 You can do it!
That one was stubborn lol
I love aphonopelmas but my female chalcodes is a nutter
I have one that's a nutter as well. haha
1st yet again bee well brother
Ha! Thanks, bud!
ok kids today for dinner we are having some Aphonopelma rehouse..Billie could you pass me some more substrate please?
Bahahahaha. Yeah, that's pretty much it. lol
2:00 I
Hahaha. Yes!
Your Hentzi is a Texas brown not a Texas tan (sp. anax). Not to be rude
Whoops! I'm terrible with the common names. Thank you!
Gosh they are tiny. They look like big eggs with legs. They must live a long time. Do the males grow faster than the females? If so, you must have a lot of females.
Joyce! They really do with those plump, shiny abdomens! Males tend to mature more quickly, so fingers crossed! :)
@@TomsBigSpiders From the looks of it you have a whole lot o mamas and no papas.
