It is not a suicide song. It is about what death leaves in its wake. Dave says if he had only a little time to live, one soundbite; he wanted everyone to know that good, bad, or indifferent; he loved them all.
Yeah, exactly
Definitely not a suicide song. It was always misinterpreted as that.
Yeah, I don't understand how anyone could interpret this to be about suicide. I've heard this song a hundred times and that interpretation has never crossed my mind.
Yeah. I remember hearing an interview or reading a statement from Mustaine where he said this song is a, what if you were going to pass and you only had moments to tell your loved ones how you feel.
Exactly. Not a pro suicide song. Dave explained it all in an interview.
Dave Mustaine is also a Christian and is very open about it so hope you guys Know that Vin and Sori .
Traitor.
He wrote better songs when he was into the darker stuff like in peace sells my favoeite album by them :)
One thing you guys do a lot that bugs me is you always assume a song is about the person who wrote it. Artists don't just write about themselves, they write about other people they know and fictional scenarios and people as well. "How little I accomplished" doesn't necessarily have to do with him, but what someone most likely will think on their deathbed.
hey I guess at the same time it is their natural reaction to think maybe it is from the artist's experiences. idk everybody is different but I see what you're saying dude. hey by any chance, would you happen to know who is the band they were referring to that Vin said he will never review/react to in a video?
@@mrmike320 I have no clue, if I had to guess I'd say maybe Deicide? That's total conjecture though.
cool thank you Aaron
Usually you are right, but isn't this song Dave thinking about how do you even say goodbye to people when you die. And he got this thinking from when his mother died.
I totally agree, musicians make music just like actors and actress doing there works on TV or film or the stage-- a point of view of life but not from the "performer" himself.
I don't leave comments, but you are totally wrong. This song is not about suicide. It is about what a loved one who has passed away, and could come back and talk to their loved ones. The song came to him when he dreamed of his mother after she passed away. It's about, if you passed away, and could come back and talk to your loved ones, what you would say to them. There is a video of Dave talking about the song, and how pissed off he was that MTV band the video and said that it was about suicide. Now that being said, listen to The Conjuring, it is about a dream he had after his father passed away.
Scott Emery your absolutely right. I know a lot of people think it's about suicide. All they have to do is just listen to the song
Exactly
Vin, I honestly can't believe how robotically literal you are whenever you read the lyrics to a song. Sometimes I really suspect that your knowledge of English language lacks in some areas. You skip through all the smart analogies and deep one-liners in the song[s] and stick to the first straightforward sentence you come across and hold it up like a banner till the end. You missed almost all the clues and hints, cuz jumping the shark has become your "thing" at this point.
The song is simply about a dying man, sharing his thoughts and regrets on his deathbed with his friends and loved ones.
Just read the first verse. He clearly talks about a long life lived with too many mistakes. He's asking us to not to make the same wrong choices he did.
Mustaine almost sued MTV back in 1994, cuz they labelled the song pro-suicide and pulled it off the air for a while.
Lol yes jumping the shark for sure, I’ve always been the same from the start of the channel. Also, which is it? Am I over literalizing mustaine or misinterpreting him?
@@VinAndSori little bit of both... Note: conversations or criticisms in the comment section can be easily mistakened with trolling. I wish we could talk in a more convenient platform.
I don’t think you’re trolling bruv... I’m trying to talk to you
@@VinAndSori You are overliteralizing.
Musicians tell stories and use analogies, many songs are a lot deeper that you sometimes give them credit for.
Espescially in metal, for example lyrics about death and destruction is not about the singer wanting to kill people.. It's rather about the musician trying to look through the eyes of warmongers/politicians/killers to deduce the mindset that makes such people tick and then channel that madness to the world through the music. Not to be destructive, but to make people care about it and stand together against destructive powers. This is a very important distinction to make guys.
This song is not about suicide, it's about laying on your deathbed saying farewell to your loved ones.
I seriously think you guys get too hung up on the "musicians" instead of understanding that this music mostly is philosophical poetry.
@@VinAndSori Vin why are u so condescending to your subs? Some I know can be blunt, rude and less than intelligent, but some are just giving justified criticism. Someone that puts themselves out in such a public way should have a thicker skin.
Funny how I always thought this is about suicide. Then I got cancer at age of 26 and I realized that if it get's me, I want people to play this (with Cristina though) at my funeral because this is what I want to say. I got a new perspective. It was no longer about suicide but suddenly knowing you are going to die soon. "My life passed before my eyes. I found out how little I accomplished. All my plans denied" I want to accomplish them but something is denying them from me. Well that was 12 years ago and I'm still here and healthy again. Thank you western medicine.

Dude it's not about your comment but I wonder what your avatar is from. Looks like Tengriist shamans' drum paintings.
And that's good you made it. As far as I saw from people around me half the fight with that nasty disease is about keeping a fighting spirit and a good mood. So give some credit to yourself and loved ones stood beside you too. Cheers.
Sick Turret Nice! You are the first one to recognize it. It's a Sámi Shaman drum painting of a crow but I think Tengriist paintings are the same because the shamanism has the same origin. I put it because the Finnish Paganism had strong shamanistic aspects and it's kinda connection to the roots.

Wow. Never knew they were so close. I thought all that uralic-altaic relations were just linguistic and really distinct. Gotta check it more. Thanks for the info bro. And hope your life goes much more better after that shit you've been through. Cheers.
There was a school shooting here in Montreal about a decade back, and "the system" tried to blame Megadeth for the shooter's actions, because this was among the last songs he played on his computer... I saw Megadeth in concert shortly after and he addressed the situation on stage.
Sori, I've spoken to many French Canadians and they all say Mustaine's French pronunciation is a little funny. I think he sounds fine, but I'm not French. I speak a little, but no where near fluent.
Further to Vin's comments on Mustaine's guitar ability or his contribution to heavy metal, there are many, most notably Scott Ian of Anthrax, who say that thrash metal wouldn't have existed without Mustaine. Although Scott Ian isn't in it, there's an interesting video on youtube about what other musicians think of Mustaine... I find it to be pretty impressive.
Peace
When I was on a trip in France I met s Frenchman who had played some hockey with French Canadians. He thought their accent was really heavy and they were kinda hard to understand.
To my knowledge, I’ve been told that the French used is Quebec is more traditional than what’s used in France. In Quebec they make more of an effort to preserve the language and avoid the use of American-isms than they do in France.
At least, that’s what I’ve been told.
It's funny when you consider that french Canadians themselves have the most fucked up way of speaking 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@MetalMallet no it is not the most traditional way and they have a fucked accent a lot of French comedians have Quebecoi character I their specials just cause of their way of speaking.
I remember reading that
That's like some unfortunate byproduct of being a famous and reletively unique rockstar that gets you blamed for schoolshootings etc, I saw an interview with Marilyn Manson where he said thus far he'd been blamed for like 16 shootings or something, it's crazy and a heavy thing to dump on anyone.
It's not about suicide. He is sick or something and about to pass away. He is saying his goodbyes to his love ones. He is telling them to not be down because he is heading to a better place. Dave Mustaine is a born again christian who refuses to tour with satanic bands. He even refuse to play some of his older material because of the content doesn't match with his today spiritual beliefs. Not all metal themes are negative.
Amen! you nailed it!
It's about is mother passing away because of cancer.

I’m so happy you reviewed this song today because my mom lost her battle with cancer, and this is one of a few songs that I was thinking about today. Just seems so fitting. Her and our faith will carry us forward. And I appreciate and respect your opinion about this song. RIP mom ❤️.

Iron Maiden - Paschendale
Yes. But not the live version. I want them to get the full experience on this one.
I love that album. It gave me a good feeling, in my chest, when I first started listening to it. "Wildest Dreams" and "Rainmaker" are probably my favorite songs; their great songs.
Iron Maiden - Caught Somewhere In Time

Congratulations! Love your videos. They are honest and entertaining to watch. Thank you!
You're on a live performance binge it seems! You really, really need to do Blind Guardian's "Mirror Mirror" and/or "Valhalla" live - and when that's done, maybe do "When the Lights are Down" by Kamelot live as well. You said yesterday in the Unleash the Archers video that you have no problem and actually quite enjoy power metal so let's see it!
"Valhaaaaallaaaaaa!
Deliverance!
Why've you ever forgotten me!?"
Yeah, this songs gets like 666% better while playing live :D
Agreeing on Blind Guardian 100 % =) Adding Sabaton as well (live from Wacken 2015)!
Just to be clear, while Valhalla and The Bard's Song in the Forest are must to hear live, on the other hand, some of BG songs like Nightfall, Sacred Worlds or The Ninth Wave (which will be played at my coronation ceremony as soon as I become the Dark Evil Emperor of the Whole World, it's perfect for that) are better to hear studio version. Hansi has amazing voice and everytime he sings he sounds like he's roaring from a top of a mountain, but he can't sing multiple melodies with different lyrics at the same time, what we hear in studio ;)
Or for Kamelot: March of Mephisto since Shagrath is a guest vocalist? And Vin likes Dimmu Borgir already so that could be fun
1 vote for Blind Guardian - Valhalla (live wacken)
IRON MAIDEN - Revelations (Live after Death 85)
Yes! Yes! Yes!
It's time for some more Judas Priest, please do The Sentinel :-)
Annihilator - Alison Hell
Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark
Annihilator - Fun Palace
Fantastic, thank you for this, now just hope you haven't forgotten about Megadeth - Good Mourning Black Friday
That song would fit into Cannibal Corpse type of song (lyric wise) - which doesn't fare well with VInAnd Sori . :D That would make Sori hate Megadeth even more (if that's even possible) :D
I think they need to hear more from Euthanasia (edit: Youthanasia, thanks Mike)

If you Annalise the lyrics he is reflecting on his life. Dave stated in an interview that he wrote this song when his mother died. He said if he had a sound bite, one last thing to say to his loved ones, friends, fans and family before he left this earth basically these would be his last words. I understand the feeling of life being fleeting and temporary having lost my mom and dad to cancer. The only time I ever even thought about suicide at all was before I got saved. For me that was my filament that made me strengthen up and realize no matter what happens here on earth God's got me in his grip and after reading the book of Job I realized there are good days and bad days, accomplishments, regrets but at the end of the day I'm still breathing with a roof over my head, healthy and everyday is an empty canvas to make better decisions and paint a new perception to lead myself into. We live and learn, go through hell and crawl back and hopefully we learn from our mistakes and get stronger as we develop into who we are! Dave's good people he was just reflecting and pondering death when his mom sadly passed away. He has said many times that it is definitely not a song about suicide just an honest depiction of that felling of loss and pain. Dave's the kind of guy if he really wanted to end his life he would. Thank God that he didn't with so much awesomely beautiful music and poetry to help others like myself say, "welcome to tomorrow." Thank God for Megadeth!

Dave wrote this song about a dream he had about his mother, where she came back from heaven to say I love you, its about him talking to her again. He does not promote suicide at all- he wants his fans to live. Dave stated "we do not write music for people to take their lives, its more like, we have a problem here, let us all be part of the solution
This is exactly what the song is about guys, as @Brent stu wrote, Daves mother was a Jehovahs witness, mtv mistook the lyrics about suicide and banned it. May you all have a good day.
they did add back on with a disclaimer approved by Dave regarding suicide prevention

I've been a fan of Megadeth since the beginning and probably have heard every song they ever made and loved them all. The guitar playing is legendary. But, I still love hearing other people's opinions of my favorite songs. I never understood why people feel the need to leave negative and nasty comments. I think you guys are cool and are just having fun listening to great music.
Great review Vin and Sori. So a guess no IRON MAIDEN POWERSLAVE? Again...😞
Seriously?
I know you folks are a Christian reaction channel, but holding THIS song in a bad light due to your poor interpretation of it, and holding something like the BIBLE up as moral when it slaughters millions, practices blood sacrifice and outright dehumanizing people due to being slaves, or black, is a joke.
Mustaine was thinking about what people say as they lay on their deathbed, NONE of the lyrics are about CHOOSING to be there, just what you do when you get there.
You might as well condemn Christ for asking why he was abandoned on the cross, and assume what he did was suicide as well, because he *knew* what was coming, he even said as much.
They're not holding it in a bad light...he said he thinks the song is healthy and if you're going to claim it is pro-suicide you're going to have to tear up your Bible for the same reason. Get off your high horse and actually listen, maybe?
I don't think the song is pro-suicide, that's my point. They ASSUMED it is pro suicide, which is exactly why I mentioned Jesus. He knew he would be betrayed, he knew he would suffer, he knew he would die, yet he chose to do it anyway. He essentially committed suicide under a literal interpretation of his acts. Many other people have noted this in their comments, that Vin and Sori are taking this song far too literally, all I did was extent that literalism to their beliefs where the best defence against criticism is calling it allegorical because personal interpretation is nebulous.
All I am actually asking for is for them to look at songs beyond the literal, and the allegorical that they are, the same way they view the bible.
Is that so unfair?
Re-read my post, I never said that you thought the song was pro-suicide, I was talking about what they thought. They didn't think it was pro-suicide, otherwise, he wouldn't have said he thought it was healthy. He said the same thing you're saying, that if a person wants to view the song as pro-suicide then they'll have to look at the Bible the same way. You're just too caught up in trying to accuse them of making wrong assumptions that you're blinding yourself to what they're actually saying.
Yes, when it first got over, they discussed whether it could be taken to be pro-suicide, to which he said no, he doesn't think it is because when you see the camaraderie of the crowd, it's obvious that it's not breaking people down and trying to get them to off themselves. Unless you stopped watching immediately after they first started talking post-song, there is literally no reason you should think they believe the song is pro-suicide.
The great thing about art is that it's very subjective, what it means to one person doesn't have to be the same thing it means to another. Sure, they're wrong in general that the song is about suicide, but even though they view that as the meaning, through discussion, they concluded that it's a healthy outlet and not meant to push suicide.
I'd love for you to pull up some scriptures that back up what you just accused the bible of being. Considering I'm a pastor and someone who studied the bible thoroughly as a profession I'd love to hear it.
Dude I never saw the Jesus death your way but if you think about it you are right. The Christ commit a assisted suicide.
Dave Mustaine is quoted as saying about the song:
"It's not a suicide song. What it is, it's, you, it's when people have a loved one that dies and they end on a bad note, you know, they wish that they could say something to them. So this is an opportunity for the deceased to say something before they go. And it was my impression of what I would like to say to people, if I had say, 3 seconds to do so in life before I died I'd say to the entire world, to all my friends, I love you all, and now I must go. These are the last words I'll ever speak, and they'll set me free. I don't have to say I'm sorry, I don't have to say I'm going to miss you, or I'll wait for ya. You know, I'll just say I loved you all, good, bad, indifferent, I loved you all."
"Á tôut le monde" means 'to everybody' according to the good old Google machine lol
Yep, "To all the world" is the more literal translation.
monde is same as mundo in spanish, "world"
IRON MAIDEN....FEAR OF THE DARK LIVE IN RIO......THE KINGS OF METAL!!!!!
I totally respect your stance on the band who shalt not be named, but I also do think you’re giving them way more power than they actually have. Like what he says he wants and what his music actually does are two different things. Have you looked at the comment sections to their songs? On the contrary most people seem to think their music helps them through their hard times. As a side note, their lyrics are mostly not even in english, are not very extreme compared to similar dsbm bands and there’s also songs that don’t even touch on subject of suicide. But it’s your channel, your rules, that’s okay.
Yeah, I mostly think he’s quite often very, very drunk lol. But I’ve also seen some of his sober statements and in one sense I do think it’s an interesting question - can you actually hurt people with music? Can art be dangerous? I also think Vin and Sori would be able to have a constructive conversation about these topics, but I respect Vin’s personal experiences with the subject and why he might not want to have such discussions, even if it was just to dismantle Niklas statements and ideas.
Also yeah I definitely agree, there’s way more sinister ways to lure people into destructive behaviours than just ”hey kids, self harm is good!!”. A lot of dsbm just seems very transparent and fake tbh. I mean for me personally, I mostly appreciate the music itself and Niklas voice. And who's really to know what sort of music would push someone over the edge? If even any music could be blamed for such a thing. For me personally it sure wouldn't be dsbm, but everyone's different of course.
Also reminds me of that whole Manson controversy back in the 90s, where he said something like ”If more people killed themselves over music it wouldn't disappoint me, it would disappoint me in that it's sad that people are that stupid". Controversial statement for sure, but they did cover Manson, several times. And, I forgot, he actually used to cut himself on stage as well.
what band is he talking about.. cant figure out or really find it ! if you can let me know if appreciate it .. thanks !
He's never said officially but from his description it quite clearly seems to be Shining (swe).

Portrait of a Headless Man is a great introduction to the band. The video is nothing short of amazing. Same as Martyr and Dark Art.
Virtues of the beast is my favorite song of all time. Out of any other song, ever.
Sangreal, great clean parts and the best intro of all time. Communion: Title song for one of the best SF albums. Anubis, those transitions.
The Vampire of Nazareth: Fortis' drumming. The man was perfect, but Krimh is doing amazing.
Prometheus is one I personally don't like too much, but a solid song and would prove a great discussion (Like all of the SF songs, really).
I might add Mechanical Babylon and Dark River. And maybe some even older songs (After they check you picks, because old SF is pretty different):
Mystic Places of Dawn
Ice Castle
The Ophidian Wheel, Phallic Litanies
Marble Smiling Face, Brotherhood of the Fallen Knights
Science
One thing to praise, is that everything the band produce, they do themselves: Seth is an artist, creating all the designs and cover art. Christos is a composer, so he writes and direst the live orchestra. Sotiris is heavy on the lyrics... Few bands do both art and orchestra on their own.

Megadeth - Symphony of destruction live
MegadetH - Diadems
Wow, thanks for showing me this performance. I'm a Megadeth fan and I had never seen it. Dave really killed it. I really like your channel, too. I think this song is about thinking of your loved ones when you know you will die soon. Yes, it is applicable to those who take their own lives, but it also could be the words of someone suffering from terminal illness expressing their true feelings.
Partir in French can be said about dying as a figurative by-word. It literally translates to leaving. The idea probably comes from Latin, in which both exitus and expiratio mean dying though exitus literally means leaving or going outside and expiratio means exhaling, breathing out.
Most languages have ways of talking about death without saying the words die and death. Using the word death might sometimes be too heavy or too scary for people... especially children.
In Finnish for another example "edesmennä" is used for dying, but in a literal sense it means "to go forth/going onward".
Wow! Not seen the video yet, but I bet you're going to like this one of Megadeth. React to Allegaeon: Proponent for sentience III the Extermination please. I'm going to watch now😊
Mastodon - Crack The Skye live at Brixton Academy plz
Again another live reaction in argentina ❤ like a lot of ppl in the comments i always interpreted this song like a goodbye when you feel that you don't have much time left and that chorus is just wonderfull.
I like it you guys doing great so much music keep it up metaleros for ever
Blind Guardian - Time stand STILL
i wonder why they still didnt played one single blind guardian? most special band ever.
Valhalla
Katatonia - Teargas
I never took this as a song about suicide. Even Dave previously said it wasn't. It's about what you would want to say if your life was cut short somehow. I always took that this song was written as if you have already passed and your looking back on life and the people you leave behind. You don't want them to mourn you when your gone and you're telling them you love them and not to worry.
Pinkly smooth- mesmer
such an underrated band
they only had one album and it was side project for synister gates and The Rev from avenged sevenfold
the rev does the lead vocals not just drums and i freakin love his voice, hes got one of the most unique vocal sounds iv heard tbh
Family Tree off youthanasia is also killer
Please React to Iron Maiden, The Talisman(En Vivo)...., Vocal Performance for The Ages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, Thanks!!!!!!!
2nd Favorite Band! Not about suicide tho. It's about someone on their death bed. So his Mom died, he had a dream/Visions of his Mom in the afterlife "my bodies gone, that's all!"
Ok so.
Here are my selections
Iron Miaden - Montsegur. It's about the Cathars do it for historical discussion.
Megadeth - Never walk Alone. Totally a song about Jesus!
Dream Theater - In the Name of God. About cults and false religion
Kamelot - Center of the Universe. First Kamelot Song I heard, also pretty Interesting lyrically.
Symphony X - Revelations. Odd choice but my favorite song by them, it defines their sound in my opinion Final Track of a concept record
This song has gotten people through some rough times. One of my favs.
I also seen a video of Dave Mustaine saying, he was imagining what his grandmother would say when she passed away....
