- In this video, Andrew, with Free Tours by Foot walks by music clubs that have just reopened on Frenchmen Street New Orleans, a famous music strip in the Marigny neighborhood. MORE NEW ORLEANS VIDEOS - • New Orleans Virtual Tours .
A walk through more of the neighborhood includes colorful buildings, some Creole history, the site of A Streetcar Named Desire, and more.
Put on your headphones or listen in stereo if you can because this was recorded using binaural microphones to make it sound like you are hearing the street sounds (and music!) live.

It’s refreshing to see so many people riding their bicycles.
I.love.this.channel. Andrew is excellent. He just did an hour plus historical tour and has all this stuff just in his head. He LOVES his city and it shows.

My husband i walked those streets in New orleans! It was our first trip down there! Its so charming !

My daughter and I were having a drink on Pirates Alley last year at this time and you actually walked by with a few people on a tour. I was too shy to say anything to you but I was so excited to actually see you.
I really enjoyed this video! Your video makes me feel like I'm really there. It's a great way to see the place and glad you take the time to do this type of thing!
Thank you Andrew for a delightful stroll through the Marigny.
Glad you enjoyed it, Skip.
Thanks for this video.
When I flew from Amsterdam to New Orleans I planned to focus on Bourbon Street since I crave blues and Jazz music. A girl behind the desk in my hotel attended on Frenchmen Street. So I went there. I find the best place in town. Although The Blue Nile was close. I saw amazing Jazz and Blues there. Bourbon has great places, for me Frenchmen Street has even more real authentic music place.
Thanks again for your video. Well done!
What’a the name of the place?!
Thanks again for watching Michael! If you know of anyone else who might also enjoy these videos, please share us with them. We would really appreciate that! Thank you.
Hello my new friend

Andrew, I appreciate your willingness to show and share with the community your lovely and colorful city. I’ve only been to the French Quarter and Garden District once many years ago - so will def check out Frenchmen St. I’m going back in the next few days. NOLA is calling me. I’m drawn to the inclusivity, the rich history, energy, and trying to hold both the good and the ugly for lack of a better word. Thank you.

I can honestly say, it's a good day when I can learn something new. I learned so much about the Marigny on this tour. Excellent job of describing the earlier years of New Orleans and The Marigny. Thank you for all the effort to make this clip. Bravo!

I just love these videos...I get so excited to see them pop up...Thank you again
Glad you like them! Thanks again for watching and engaging.
Your timing on the end of the story and the last phrases of the music on the street were brilliant. They couldn't have been planned better. Thank you for a fascinating tour!

Used to live on Esplanade just around the corner. Glad to see the city coming back to life! Thank you for the great tour 👍❤️
You are welcome.
Excited about the Marie Laveau video coming up! Sounds super interesting!
Hope you like it! We are putting the finishing touches on it.
To think I walked past all this (usually drunk!) without even realizing all the history and meaning behind it. Thank you Andrew, you are a guardian of New Orleans (much like WWOZ are the guardians of the groove). I cannot wait to be home again, and hopefully run into you!!!!
Thanks for the kind words Lori. Keep watching and keep loving.
Outstanding guide and tour
Thanks guys. When I stay in the Marigny, I walk up and down Frenchmen several times a day. Great places there. 🙂🤎👍

Andrew, this whole thing of youtube folks who do walking tours is a very crowded field which IMO is a good thing. For me, you are " the class of the field". You make me want to do this in my small northern city---- thank you! And keep going.🙂🙂💯
Thanks for such a nice words Steve. Keep watching and keep loving!
Hey, thank you Steve! I say go for it - small cities and towns are some of my favorite stuff to see when I travel - and please share a link when you do!
The moment you said “Airbnb” you passed the “Airbnb” my partner and I stayed in - the memories just flooded back!
Coincidence or fate. Glad we could bring back some memories for you, at least we hope they were good memories, Gavin.
@@FreeToursbyFootHQ The very best memories. Already saving up to go back. My partner had also painted two of the houses on that walk too so she was incredibly cheery!
Appreciate all of these videos. We love to snuggle up for our evenings and put the latest one on!
thanks for being one of the reasons rent is increasing for locals
@@basedbossbabyvibez5097 Bruh, cry harder. This was 3 years ago before I knew about that situation. I’ve stayed in hotels since - so you going to move on to belittling another tourist who loves the city, or actually go to landlords who your real beef is with?
I grew up on Frenchman ST and the Marigny in the 1950s. All my family lived on Frenchman, Decatur and Esplanade. It was not popular then... Sure is good to see home again!

Haruka Kikuchi sighting at 42:33! Great trombone player. 😀
Very nice video thanks for sharing
Frenchman Is mainly where locals go. It’s basically truly New Orleans best feature for Jazz love it out there when I come home a lot.
I visited New Orleans last September, watching Andrews videos helped out alot. Great information and detail in every video.

Thank u so much ,luv those colorful little houses n music 🎶🎵💕 the architecture is really something 😍
Glad you enjoyed it!
We have a video on architecture coming up this Friday.
This was great, Andrew. Trying to figure out where to get a place in my hometown that I left so long ago. Appreciate all your videos!
Glad it was a help to you, Lorna. We are still planning the Bayou St. John video.

Thank you for another wonderful tour. I can't wait to visit. I need some color and excitement, some life. I live in a very boring CT town. I may not want to come back.
You wouldn't be the first that this has happened to, Angie. Glad you enjoyed the video.
I've been trying to get to New Orleans my whole life and some force of nature ( literally, Katrina for instance..) or another has kept me away but finding your UA-cam channel has definitely filled this hole in my heart😁❤
Thank you so much for this video. I use to live on Frenchman when I was a kid and I miss NO so much. It was nice to see my home. I wish I could afford to go back. New Orleans will always be my home no matter how long I’m gone

Enjoyed watching this as we prepare for a trip in June. I would love to see a map of your walk.
Wow had not seen Frenchmen since pre Covid. Thanks for great video
I love your videos of New Orleans. They have been my visual vacation for the past year. I will say that your voice volume is a bit low on this one and I had to increase the volume significantly and strained to listen. Particularly around the beginning with the heavy traffic. 😉
Doesn't that Andrew have the most beautiful eyes in N.O. ? In addition to his very pleasant personality.

I enjoy your videos very much. When I lived in the St. John Bayou/City Park area of New Orleans (late 80s to early 90s), the Marginy was place for Sunday brunch and a had a club that often featured Charmaine Neville. My only negative from the video was that I pronounced the area as Mar-gin-ee. lol
Thanks for watching! If you know of anyone else who might also enjoy these videos, please share us with them. We would really appreciate that! Thank you.
thanks for the tour. I love Ruby Slipper and have tried the other locations and this one is by far the best in terms of service and food quality. I will say, it's been a few years since I have been able to enjoy it, but it is definitely on my list for my next visit. The corned beef Benedict is awesome.
I was hoping go by Hotel Peter and Paul, and maybe as far as the Saint Roch cemetery area.
My favorite neighborhood.
What an absolute nightmare Frenchmen St. has become. Completely sold out. Sad. From the Apple Barrel being subsumed by the late Adolfo's wife, the slide was unstoppable. It recalls to me the nightmare scene of what happened to Jimmy Stewart's hometown. This was my hometown. I can only express myself as did Marlon Brando's Commander Kurtz: "The horror...the horror."
Will they allow you to film in the aquarium or can you tell me the rates
Where would you say is the best place to catch some blues music?

Luckily I got to go to Yuki Izakaya for some food before it closed. Such a cool interior design. The food was not bad but not amazing.
I have a question about the best way to get from French Quarter to Frenchman Street (safely). We're staying in Dauphine Orleans Hotel and are very familiar with the French Quarter. However, we tend to always stay in the Quarter or take the street cars to the Garden District. On our next trip, we want to venture out to Marigny but have heard walking all the way there can be dicey. Is it best to Uber or is there a safe(ish) walking route to take? We thought about taking a street car to the closest station and then walking the rest of the way, but we're definitely not looking to get mugged. We'll probably head there early evening and then stay late. So I'm guessing the trip back will be the issue more than the walk (or ride) there.
From your hotel if you walk down Bourbon, Royal, or Decatur especially, you will be fine.
Later at night, I would reccomend a lyft/uber/taxi back to the French Quarter.(as short as that is)
Once again I'm not able to hear...all the older ones are great and the ones with Robi on the bike tour and plantation tour have been great but I could not hear this one or the St Charles one. The botanical one was fine. I always start watching y'all on my TV because the color is spectacular but I quickly changed to my phone and then phone with earbuds but it did not resolve the situation...I hear A LOT of street noise but can not hear Andrew😰....can you return to audio set up you had in the past? That was just dandy...don't want to complain. I want you to succeed cause I ♥️ what you are doing!!!💯🥂🍾🍻🥇🏆🎯🎰🎩🕯️🧸💎
We will. It's weird. Most people aren't having trouble hearing or aren't mentioning it. The audio on this video gets better once Andrew leaves Frenchmen Street.
We will go back to a regular microphone for sure when we have lots of street noise. We filmed a few more with the special mics so just giving you a heads up on that.
Were you wearing flip flops? 😀
I have lived here all of my life, but I still get lost walking around in the Marigny. So many twists and turns.

So what cross street does it end on? I'm heading down today!
Oh ok, thanks!
"Faubourg" means suburb in Metropolitan French. Faubourg Marigny is the first suburb built outside of the French Quarter and bears the name of the developer.
Heading to Marigny for Thanksgiving. Any suggestions on where to eat for Thanksgiving?

What are studio apts in this area going for these days?
Hi Andrew, are you giving tours these days in New Orleans?
Why didn't you say anything about the art markets that were there on Frenchmen? I feel like so many tour guides are doing a disservice to my fellow artists by not showing people where to find local artists. I know you talked about Royal Street and the French Market before, but why turn a blind eye to the artists that were kicked out of Palace Market? Maybe you mentioned it elsewhere and I just didn't see it.
It was definitely an oversight. They’re usually in any spiel our guides give on Frenchmen. Some things get missed sometimes when filming 4K videos because of how many factors there are to control at once. Andrew has mentioned the market in other videos and we will have an artist-focused video in the future.
5:15 I love this bookstore. The owner is very nice too.
The houses of the French quarter are only allowed specific colors available during the time the house was erected. Hence the funny colors.
Is it just me or has the audio been low in some of these videos? I LOVE the commentary but I can't hear.
Hi Marie. Most people seem to hear it fine but you aren't the only person who has mentioned this. Andrew's voice is definitely easier to hear once he leaves Frenchmen Street. We are using special binaural microphones and it's generally better with headphones.
May I ask with what platform are you watching the video on?
@@FreeToursbyFootHQ Ah! Okay. Understood. Thank you. :)
Yeah the audio is low in this one
I just got back from New Orleans and I can tell you I have no desire to ever come back. 1 and done here!!

GreaT WALK! But, your volume is not high enough.
What house number or cross streets is the Charles Laveau house--Andrew, anyone?
No Vasso?
I've been confused about where Bernard spent his last years at that corner. Was it really the current Royal Frenchmen Hotel? In his history of the neighborhood, Ellis describes it as a "little house." I have also found it described that way in various online articles. I assumed it may have been destroyed. But the address (700-02 Frenchmen) aligns with the hotel.
I am constantly amused that the location he used to write in at his desk is often occupied by street poets today.
When you turn the camera forward and speak from behind the camera, we can’t hear you very well. Can you add an additional microphone?
I can hear you fine. Listened with headphones today. Andrew in stereo! Awsome.
I couldn't heard him too well but I just turned up the volume lol. Granted I'm watching on my tv and not a phone.
I think the issue might be listening to the recordings with our binaural headphones on TVs. Andrew will speak up more in the future when we use them and we will also try and figure out an additional mic setup.
Hey! It’s not Tuesday! Lol.
Tuesday is for the road trip series. We usually publish a New Orleans walk on Fridays.
