- In today's video, Andrew takes a walk down St. Charles Ave. (literally), starting from the edge of the Garden District and ending near the French Quarter. MORE NEW ORLEANS VIDEOS - • New Orleans Virtual Tours .
St. Charles Ave. is one of the most beautiful streets in New Orleans and runs from the edge of the French Quarter, along the edge of the Garden District, and through Uptown. There are many beautiful historic houses, impressive trees, streetcars, and even a restaurant that was once located at the top of the Eifel Tower.
Andrew also includes one famous Garden District home that we have till now not included, that of Jay Z and Beyonce.
Put on your headphones or listen in stereo if you can because this was recorded using binaural microphones to make it sound like you are hearing the street sounds live.

Make sure you geaux to Daisy Duke's Café, 308 St. Charles. Off Canal St. Area's dtwn. Near Pythian MKT.
You can do it!
Going in a few days. Definitely looking forward to it after watching these videos.
Andrew I love this tour, but my GOD are you making me nervous walking on those trolley tracks.
Ha. He's a pro!
He's in between...lol
I really enjoy these tours. I can dream about traveling again. Its really interesting to see people using the streetcar rails like sidewalks.
Thanks for watching and we are glad that you enjoy these videos, Tanya!

OMG The Fresh Market used to be a FUNERAL HOME back in the 70's !!!
I call it "Embalmorama"!
I really enjoyed this video! Your video makes me feel like I'm really there. It's a great way to see the place and glad you take the time to do this type of thing!
Love what you guys are doing with these videos. I lived near Washington and St. Charles for about a year. I’ve learned more from your videos than I did my entire time living there. Can’t wait to go back sometime soon...
Our pleasure! We'll keep them coming, Mike.
Its hard to hear you, but i still watched for the scenery. Thank you.
Thanks. It's best with headphones. We are trying out some really sensitive microphones and hope to perfect it soon.
I LOVE THAT ST. CHARLES TROLLEY. When I visit NOLA, I get my all day pass for the trolleys and I ride that St. Charles trolle for hours just back and forth and stopping at the different restaurants on St. Charles when I get hungry. I love NOLA, it is my all time favorite city in the US.
Great video with a lot of Anne Rice related sites. I loved it. Andrew is really a great tour guide!
Totally agree!
My goodness where does all that money come from. Not just the purchase but the taxes and upkeep.
Thank you again for another beautiful vid ☺ This must be a very wealthy part of town.
Thanks! Nice walk and you came right past my home, so I was able to share it with my friends who haven't made it out to see me yet.
Glad you enjoyed it and you could use this in such a way Marge. Thanks for sharing the video.
I enjoy your video tours; keep 'em comin'.. Fresh Market's building was Bultman's Funeral Home when I attended Tulane University in the late '60's..So glad such buildings have been repurposed.
I’m fascinated by the Live Oaks, do the roots go deep to keep them anchored or do they spread across the surface? I know they are very old and survived different hurricanes so it’s amazing to see them.
They stay on the surface to grasp the ground for leverage.
Wow, what's crazy is people are allowed to walk where the tracks are!
In so many ways, New Orleans is just a different place!
I've been visiting NOLA for nearly 30 years, but you always show me something new or I've not yet run across. Appreciate you and your crew. Be down that way in May.

Andrew, you are an awesome tour guide! I live in Ireland, and NOLA is my favorite American city. I've visited four times, and have walked through the Garden District, but not since 2013. I'm attending a wedding in a few weeks, staying at the Pontchartrain Hotel, and your narrative made me even more excited to explore the area. I can't wait to tell my mother-in-law about the doomed Eiffel restaurant as she lived in Paris for many years and I'm sure she doesn't know about it!

I visited New Orleans in 2004 and stayed at a bed and breakfast that was right on St Charles, by Audubon Park. I took the street car all the way to the French quarter and back. I did visit again in 2016 and passed by it on a bus tour. I fell in love with the city on that first trip, and hope I can go again one day!!!

Christ church cathedral has ties to Tennessee. Bishop Leonidas Polk is buried inside the church. He was one of four brothers who all had plantations outside Columbia, TN. At the point where their properties converged, Leonidas built a church called St John's at Ashwood. Leonidas became bishop of Louisiana. They called him the fighting bishop because he actually fought for the confederacy. He wanted to be buried at Ashwood in TN but ended up being buried there in New Orleans.
Thanks for sharing Greg.
For those interested that mansion on Harmony St. can be found in Zillow though is currently not for sale. The interior is actually more stunning than the exterior. Also the roof has a lawn with a garden and some nice views of the city and neighborhood. It's also curious the street view of the house is censored on Google maps though readily apparent in Zillow and on this YT vid.
If you try to look at it on Google earth ghosted out
Andrew thank you for all the historical stories and sites your a jem I've learned so much from you and the way you tell it is amazing I plan on moving to nola next year and I will be going to these places thank you again hope to see many more. Kat

This might be a speciality request - have to done a tour of the gay bars or lgbt history of the area?
Hi Jason. We have one related video so far ua-cam.com/video/5CJSCJhdeAk/v-deo.html.
Ohhhh Andrew I was so excited to see the notification of this tour and realized you were going by my favorite joint in NOLA...the St Charles Inn. So sad to hear it has closed. It was the best place to jump off the street car; have a cocktail (or 2, could have been 4!), a meal and listen to great music before retiring to the Prytania Park Hotel on my many visits to one of my favorite cities in the US. While the French Quarter is a good time, I found multiple good times all over your fine city. Thanks for the walk this evening! Laissez les bon temps rouler! ⚜️🍽🍸🎷
I had quite a few great nights at the St. Charles Inn. I even remember some of them. :)

Truman Capote used to frequent Bayou Bar at the Pontchartrain, Andrew! (It might have had another name then, but it was definitely there.)

VG. But as always with street tours - one wishes the Traffic could be masked. & It'll only get worse.
I must tour House of Broel!!!
I assume it must be just me since no one else is mentioning it but I could barely hear you throughout the video...🤔
You aren't the only one Craig. It's definitely easier to hear with headphones and Andrew's voice gets louder around 8 min into the video. We are experimenting with special microphones and will perfect it soon, I promise.
@@FreeToursbyFootHQ Thanks for getting back to me. I'll stay tuned....👂👂👂👂
At Jackson, surprised you didn't mention the St. Patricks parade. :(
Like to know when the walk takes place, day and time, for other videos. I enjoy reminencing.
Thanks for another great tour!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I was highly disappointed you did not say or mention anything about the historic Marion St Charles hotel, I stayed there and there's a lot of history behind that really disappointed highly highly disappointed one star
Most of the 20C architecture is hideous but the older neighborhoods are beautiful and charming. Fast food joints and modern buildings are an eyesore
You're brave walking alone with all those black gangs down there

These are great videos. But it's a shame you don't seem to be using a LAV mic. It's hard to hear the commentary over the traffic often.
Sorry for that. We will improve it in our upcoming videos.
I moved here 2 months ago, and Lyft drive all over the city almost everyday, your videos have helped me learn New Orleans in such an amazing way!! Thank you!!
That is awesome and thanks for watching, Laura! Helping Lyft drivers was not something we expected. Glad to hear this and welcome to New Orleans.

In America do you not have to stop at a pedestrian crossing? In Australia we have to. I drive in America all the time and I always stop. Now I know why sometimes other drivers toot their horn at me! 🤭😂
I believe that throughout the U.S., drivers are required to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks unless that crosswalk is at an intersection with a traffic light.
Wow
Wonder where The Iguanas will play on Wednesdays now that Circle Bar "ain't dere no more". Great homage to the Rex house.
We wonder too! They are playing for now at The Broadside a new venue on Orleans and Broad.
Hi Venmo is saying I need to confirm with the last digits of your phone number

Hey Andrew 👋 I'm still hurt that I had to cancel my vacation to NOLA because of hurricane Ida. I have healed since then & plan on making a return in June. I am looking at hotels & airbnb's. I was looking at the Rathbone Mansions & understand its residential. Is Esplanade Ave friendly to Tourist or would you recommend I stay on Canal Street? Thanks

There use to be a hospital( in the early 80's) on St. Charles. My husband was in that hospital back then and I stayed one night at the Collumns Hotel. It was one of the great houses there on St. Charles.
Thank you for sharing this, Diana. It's a lovely little hotel.
Can I suggest a mic by your mouth?
Thanks for the comment. We've fixed the issue. This was an older video.
Oh... too bad. The dialog isn't loud enough 🥺

New subscriber here Andrew. First video I've watched and already totally impressed. Grew up outside NOLA.
Good tour but redo it with voiceover because hard to hear you.
Hi Maryanne. We are uploading captions. It is a bit hard to hear in the beginning but around the 5 min mark, Andrew's voice is much louder and clearer.
Is there any interest in doing a walk through the Gentilly area? Any historical points?
The short answer is yes. The tougher question is when. Hopefully soon.
@@FreeToursbyFootHQ Great! I'll look out for it.
Audio is a bit low on this one.
We know. It improves as the video moves on. We also added captions.
the way you say y’all in all of your videos sounds painful. use it more sparingly and try to sound more comfortable with it

Hi Andrew. My friend and I had plans to plans to schedule a tour with you last week. We arrived on Monday and the weather was beautiful. We had a beautiful Airbnb off of Annunciation. That freak monsoon / Cat .50 rolled in on Tuesday and we spent the rest of our adventures indoors. However I ended my trip in City Park sloshing around in the rain/storms ..... and loved it, only me and the ducks! That was my second time in the city and I will be back. Keep up the awesome videos!

Thank you, Andrew
I like to know how safe it is in NOLA right now.
I keep getting news reports of car jacking
@@cajunlady4893 Like most U.S. cities, there are carjackings. However, as you can see in our videos, people are strolling the sidewalks and jogging on the streetcar tracks. Crime is dependent on time and place.
@@FreeToursbyFootHQ Yes, Andrew I did see how quiet it was.
Thank you.
Last time, I have been to NOLA was to tour city park Christmas lights drive-thru in December. We also drove around various locations in the City.
It was lovely.
My date use to work on Lake Shore Drive. He had like doing the various food tours.
He wants to take me eat at several restaurants in NOLA. He likes Drago's chargrilled Oysters.
I rode the St. Charles streetcar to school every day. As Andrew says, there’s something to look at every day.
The clanging sound is part of New Orleans , the funniest “sounds “ though are our many dialects. When somebody calls it “Mahr- a-gin-(hard g) -knee” or “Chop-it -too-lass” that’s Irish Channel.
The tinkling bells of St. Charles Cathedral rang out across Jackson Square every hour and around the corner we got our morning coffee at the French Market.
Read “Intimate Enemies: the Two Worlds of the Baroness Pontalba” (Vela) to learn the history of the most fascinating city in the country.
