Don't worry about Samsung as a company, they can easily afford this loss. The major impact is just on future smart phone releases. This same company helped build the Burj Khalifa and the Petronas Towers. The Mobile division will take damage over the coming years but the company is 100% fine.
Nokia thought the same thing when they had a massive battery recall, something like this came wreck a companies reputation with customers. As someone that is now in the process of a second recall from Samsung I can tell you that I am not going with another Samsung phone.

The thing is all the exploding note 7's seem to explode in America which means the problem must have more to do with the chipset they had in the phone. 0 exploded in UK and they had the exynos chip in them. Correct me if I am wrong but I'm sure Snapdragon chips have always had over heating issues.

Months later and my Note 7 shows no sign of failure or overheating. I guess not charging my phone under pillows or in 120 degree vehicles has paid off.

Awesome Person The iPhone 7 Plus is still a great phone. The specs are plenty, plenty high for iOS and I have never experienced lag on an iPhone 6/6S. Samsung makes great hardware, maybe even the best, but they just don't update there phones' software, and I want to have my phone for at least 4 years. That's probably why people stick with Apple, they simply update their products software for a very long time. The NOTE 7 will still be missed by many Apple and Android users, it was a solid piece of hardware.
Mario Plus, the iPhone's software is completely optimised and running natively on the phone making the specs worth more. Remember 1GB is somewhat like the equivalent of 2.5G of RAM on an Android phone. Same measurement for CPU speed.
While I agree with you, both of my note 7's were solid. They were also the 'coolest' running android phone I've ever had (temperature). The problem I see with keeping it is software support. I can't imagine Samsung will spend resources updating a phone that has been completely discontinued/recalled. Getting the latest software is a huge part of the experience. I placed my order for the pixel xl this evening. Hoping for the best.

To everyone who is still rocking the Note 7, not only for safety reasons should you return the Note 7 but... 1. In the coming months eBay, Amazon, and other sites will probably ban it so you wont be able to sell it or swap it 2. Don't expect any software updates 3. You wont be able to travel via airline with your phone, period. (As a Note 7 owner myself, I hate that it must go, but please people return it now or be stuck with a explosive paper weight forever!)

For my V10, The screen started having persistency issues and when you plug it in at 5% with the included charger, the indicator would start freaking out and the phone will shut down and the phone would suddenly be at 0%. When you plug in headphones, you would sometimes need to pull it out slightly, something I associate with cheap audio devices. Thing is, I returned the phone for a new device for these issues and the new device had the same issues.
I got the LG Stylo and it was fine until I updated to marshmallow from lollipop, then I started having all those problems, 1) turn up the brightness and it overheats and the screen flickers 2) battery hits 15% and gets a infinite boot loop 3) random black screens of death at any time of the day 4) home buttons completely disappearing off the screen 5) camera disappearing off the screen 6) plug in headphones and the UI crashes...
I find it kinda ironic that the company that was known for it's "Removable" batteries now have to pull it's best phone off the market because the "Non-removable" battery is unstable. Had they stuck with the Removable option than all they would have had to do is fix the batteries and send the customers the fixed replacement battery. Samsung is learning the hard way.......
We don't know if it's the battery itself causing these issues, and Samsung changing battery manufacturers obviously didn't fix the issue so I'm assuming there's something else wrong with the phone that causes the batteries to become unstable.
Kwanza Toney I freaking love this phone. As great as the S7 Edge is, the Note 7 is just heads and shoulders above. The software is cleaner, more responsive, battery life is phenomenal (which is odd because it has 100 Mah less than the S7 Edge) just everything is a step above. I'm sold. just hope the carriers don't blacklist the phone, or Samsung remotely disables it.

They pretty much found that the battery may not be the only issue with it. After the first recall they went with a different battery supplier and it still had issues.

Patrick Star I used to have a nexus 5, then I switched to iPhone 5s, then to OP1, then to 6s, and now I have the OP3 and it's nice, sure, but it just feels so... unoptimized. The camera app is slow and the whole android ecosystem feels quirky as fuck (Maybe it's Oxygen OS?). More RAM does not make it a better phone. I have yet to try the iPhone 7 but I'm guessing it's way more optimized for everyday use... If one wants a phone that they'll want to use for more than one year then it's the iPhone for sure. It only costs 300$ more, but it's probably 2x the OnePlus in usability.

The thing is all the exploding note 7's seem to explode in America which means the problem must have more to do with the chipset they had in the phone. 0 exploded in UK and they had the exynos chip in them. Correct me if I am wrong but I'm sure Snapdragon chips have always had over heating issues.

Months later and my Note 7 shows no sign of failure or overheating. I guess not charging my phone under pillows or in 120 degree vehicles has paid off.

The S7 Active is also a great contender. I know that it's an AT&T exclusive but it doesn't look too bad in person, ESPECIALLY the new Black Color for it. It looks great and it has all the features the S7 has PLUS a 4000 mah battery.

I haven't felt much frustration until this moment but I've got to realize how first world this problem is and move on. I'll probably go with the S 7 edge or Note 5.

Awesome Person The iPhone 7 Plus is still a great phone. The specs are plenty, plenty high for iOS and I have never experienced lag on an iPhone 6/6S. Samsung makes great hardware, maybe even the best, but they just don't update there phones' software, and I want to have my phone for at least 4 years. That's probably why people stick with Apple, they simply update their products software for a very long time. The NOTE 7 will still be missed by many Apple and Android users, it was a solid piece of hardware.
Mario Plus, the iPhone's software is completely optimised and running natively on the phone making the specs worth more. Remember 1GB is somewhat like the equivalent of 2.5G of RAM on an Android phone. Same measurement for CPU speed.

While I agree with you, both of my note 7's were solid. They were also the 'coolest' running android phone I've ever had (temperature). The problem I see with keeping it is software support. I can't imagine Samsung will spend resources updating a phone that has been completely discontinued/recalled. Getting the latest software is a huge part of the experience. I placed my order for the pixel xl this evening. Hoping for the best.

1. In the coming months eBay, Amazon, and other sites will probably ban it so you wont be able to sell it or swap it 2. Don't expect any software updates 3. You wont be able to travel via airline with your phone, period.
(As a Note 7 owner myself, I hate that it must go, but please people return it now or be stuck with a explosive paper weight forever!)

It definitively was a great phone. It had a fire processor, a fire display, a fire front and rear camera, and fire battery life. This phone is on fire!

When you realize this could've all be avoided if the note 7 had a removable battery.

For my V10, The screen started having persistency issues and when you plug it in at 5% with the included charger, the indicator would start freaking out and the phone will shut down and the phone would suddenly be at 0%. When you plug in headphones, you would sometimes need to pull it out slightly, something I associate with cheap audio devices. Thing is, I returned the phone for a new device for these issues and the new device had the same issues.
I got the LG Stylo and it was fine until I updated to marshmallow from lollipop, then I started having all those problems,
1) turn up the brightness and it overheats and the screen flickers
2) battery hits 15% and gets a infinite boot loop
3) random black screens of death at any time of the day
4) home buttons completely disappearing off the screen
5) camera disappearing off the screen
6) plug in headphones and the UI crashes...

I find it kinda ironic that the company that was known for it's "Removable" batteries now have to pull it's best phone off the market because the "Non-removable" battery is unstable. Had they stuck with the Removable option than all they would have had to do is fix the batteries and send the customers the fixed replacement battery. Samsung is learning the hard way.......
We don't know if it's the battery itself causing these issues, and Samsung changing battery manufacturers obviously didn't fix the issue so I'm assuming there's something else wrong with the phone that causes the batteries to become unstable.

The software is cleaner, more responsive, battery life is phenomenal (which is odd because it has 100 Mah less than the S7 Edge) just everything is a step above. Patrick Star I used to have a nexus 5, then I switched to iPhone 5s, then to OP1, then to 6s, and now I have the OP3 and it's nice, sure, but it just feels so... unoptimized. The camera app is slow and the whole android ecosystem feels quirky as fuck (Maybe it's Oxygen OS?). More RAM does not make it a better phone. I have yet to try the iPhone 7 but I'm guessing it's way more optimized for everyday use... If one wants a phone that they'll want to use for more than one year then it's the iPhone for sure. It only costs 300$ more, but it's probably 2x the OnePlus in usability.
