- After the Quick Squid fish off the Break Wall at Wirrina Cove I decided to head to Myponga Beach to see if there were some late season Mullet on offer. Armed with Mullet mix and a bit of Burley I managed several species including Mullet, Bream, Australian Salmon, Silver Whiting and the all too common Toad Fish/Puffer Fish.
It was a very enjoyable and easy fishing session that anyone can do no matter your experience level! The mullet mix isn't hard to make and if you check out the video via the link below you can find the recipe I used.

Hello Chris, it has been a while since we fished that neck of the woods, we moved to Tasmania 8 years ago, if you were at that tackle shop back then there is a good chance you may have served us, thanks for sharing with us, we still fish here in Tassie and all the species you have mentioned all available down here along with the most prolific fish in Tassie waters, the flathead, till next time tight lines 🧡❤🧡❤🧡❤
No doubt I would have been working in the tackle shop back then, I left just after my first daughter was born and she’s now 7! I love Flathead, I might have to move to Tassie! 🍻
Great videos, good variety, opened up other ideas to fish down south I had not through about. What is the rod you use, very soft, interesting?
Glad you are liking the video’s! The rod I’m using is a Samurai S002X that I built a few years ago, it’s a 7 foot 2 inch blank rated 2-4kg. I built it mainly for very light soft plastics for Bream but found it to be an excellent rod for close quarters fishing with braid from land and boat.
Hi, I enjoy watching your videos mate, I like your down to earth, humble approach to fishing, keep it up. I don't get the chance to fish often, but would like to get out soon and try for mullet or s/trout. Just wondering with the Mullet mix you are using that has Mince Meat in it, I was under the understanding that it wasn't allowed in SA as Buley or Bait! Do you know whether that's the case? What could you use in its place? Thanks a lot.
Cheers, I’m glad you are liking the videos! The mullet mix (mince meat) saga has been going on for years and poorly written laws has also confused the issue. I was speaking to a bait supplier here in SA and they got the green light for selling mullet mix to the tackle shops. The law is there to stop people using say a whole chicken or a slab of steak for shark baits on a hook, small minced pieces on a small hook intended for small species is ok. Just remember, you can’t use the mullet mix to burley the fish too you, just as bait. Other baits I have use for Mullet are Bungum (beach) worms, seaweed worms, small pilchard pieces etc. They will take a wide variety of baits, some work better than others in specific locations, it’s just a matter of working it out!

Hello mate, do you have any tips for winter fishing at carrikalinga beach near the rocks? What should I target as I’ve had success there before in summer.
What I’ll be doing around the area over the cool months is fishing the gutters on a big afternoon high tide and using a bit of burley to get some Salmon Trout and making sure I have a lure rod ready just in case a good school of bigger fish come through. I’ll also be trying to workout the Silver whiting as they are tasty if they get big enough to fillet.
I use to fish off a rock platform around by Carrickalinga Head and use to do well on all sorts of species but unfortunately it’s a no go zone now! 😭
@@scaledupfishing2122 yeah the fishing sanctuary looks like a magnificent place to fish, too bad it’s not allowed any more, I usually see big schools of salmon that go up and down the beach from time to time with dolphins behind!
@@tommyswildfishing That’s always a good sign seeing the schools of Salmon move through and means you will most likely get a few fish in the gutters trying to hide from the Dolphins. Just remember to burley the gutter you are fishing and you will catch fish!👍

Hey mate I’m still getting mullet, when do they usually turn off? Google says March to June? You said May is late?
I normally target the Mullet from Late February through till end of April. I usually find they start to taper off after that to the point where I turn my fishing attention elsewhere. There will still be Mullet around but just not in as bigger numbers.

@@davidjamesmarshman94 it depends where you live, they migrate so some places the run starts earlier and ends earlier and other places it starts later and ends later
@@davidjamesmarshman94 it will be very weather dependent but if you get a few nice calm days and the water is clear I would fish the rocks from Marino to Hallet Cove for Squid and Snook, they will be there all year round and sometimes a school of Salmon will cruise on past. Another option is targeting the KG Whiting from the jetty a couple of hours either side of low tide. When chasing Salmon only I tend to start looking for them around Christie’s Beach and further South.
