The original abridged voice for adult Gohan in the Android 13 movie was actually Justin Briner, the english voice for Deku in MHA, which is a crazy get in retrospect. Nowadays, Briner is a little too busy and higher profile to do the Gohan voice for this so they recast but the creators have gone out and said in their commentaries that their biggest regret from not doing Season 4 was not getting Briner to do the role
@@AlanGresov They had two reasons for not bringing back the VA from FoT. One: Gohan in Buu is 17 whereas Future Gohan is 24, the different VA's would highlight this age difference. Two: they wrote Main Timeline Gohan and Future Gohan to be effectively two different characters, Future Gohan is a broken man who never got over his daddy issues and hallucinates his mentor's voice in his head whereas MT Gohan is a down-to-Earth teen on the path to becoming a fully actualized adult. They felt as though having his edgey, broken down, 24-year old voice wouldn't fit the younger, goofier, sane persona he has in the Buu arc
“Even you, best buddy…” Lani and Lawerence went all out with their screams, and Lani had always wanted to do Vegeta’s sacrifice, even after they ended with the Cell Saga. When Eric mentioned the narrator coming back, I knew they were gonna love the alternative scene.
the implication of goku singing the daddy shark verse is just adorable. It would mean goku tuned in to just watch goten when chichi puts on the song. its also just downright halarious
Fun fact. Totally not Mark ask TFS to do Vegeta sacrifice. TFS has a bunch of bits and jokes they wanted to show. So it was the perfect opportunity to do the jokes they were planning and for people to realize how incredible Mark is
Mark is not incredible. In fact, I think he's the most boring Dragon Ball UA-camr besides Carthu's Dojo and, if anything, Buu Bits just goes to show that they were really just too lazy to do Buu.
@@biohazardbinI love it when someone doesn’t understand process. The little bit we got from buu hence the name bits does not equal 40 episodes of complete dubbing and editing. Creative process is hard if you aren’t creative don’t speak.
Goku vs. Vegeta is basically that chess meme of "The smart kid not understanding how I'm beating him"/"Me, who's been eating the pieces when he's not looking."
The fact that erik knows the narrator's line word for word and explains that moment so perfectly that they all get the reference when they see the joke later is incredible
Kamekameha is a thing that actually happens, Goten misspeaks saying it but the move still works in the tournament, prompting then to surmise that as a result of the mistake it's weaker than a true Kamehameha
53:30 it's so crazy how I never actually saw the Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack as Saibamen but they literally just exist to fly at people and explode (for the most part) which are basically just Saibamen!
Its really great during Vegeta's sacrifice, Picolo amd Krillen are escaping the blast with trunks and Goten, and Krillen asks Picolo if they should turn around and go back to help Vegeta, but Picolo tells Krillen basically this is Vegeta's decision and they need to honor it. Its the first selfless thing he's done in his life.
So glad they went back just to pay off jokes they clearly wanted to do. I can see how stressing over cutting up something as baggy as the Buu Saga would have turned into a product that was less than what they’d achieved before. Props to Mark for giving them this way to give the fans just a little more of what they wanted.
Tbh I really would have just prefered a handful of regular length episodes that cover the story in a way that doesn’t skip over 98% of the important stuff. There’s a lot of fluff here that didn’t show anything that was needed for the story.
That’s the point. TFS didn’t want to do the Buu story, it’s bloated as hell. If you’ve seen the Buu saga or read it you know it, they don’t need to cover it all.
it wasn't the Buu saga that did it, Bojack writing process burnt them out and they were all dealing with stuff in their lives atm so everything just went down@@chazo1367

Okay so what Babidi was actually saying was that ‘Towa would be pissed, but he doesn’t care because she’s barely canon.’ That’s a reference to Dabura’s sister, Towa. She appears in the games, Dragon Ball Online, both Xenoverses, Dragon Ball Fusions, Dragon Ball Kakarot, and the Dragon Ball Heroes series. That’s why she is considered barely canon. She is a game-only character.
@@coranbaker6401 yeah that was part of the PR Anime’s latest arc. I did like the finishing attack in it but I won’t spoiler it in case you didn’t see it
12:58 just to explain, Maron(Krillin's ex) was a filler character in the actual series, which could be why her name is so similar to Marron(the daughter). My only assumption is that Toriyama didn't know making Marron's character
@@ZarrarAAli He didn't, actually, they explained it to him after fans got confused and he thought it was funny. because of course he didn't remember some random one-off filler character he had nothing to do with.
Toriyama named krillin daughter after Marron which is a type of chestnut which is what krillin is named after. Toei had the same idea which is why they named her maron which relates to krillin
52:28 eric actually got this wrong, he said Toei but babidi said Towa aka the barely-canon sister of Dabura whos one of the main villains of the super-dragonball heroes/xenoverse side of things
Funnily enough though, TFS's playthough of xenoverse 1 and 2 is actually considered to be canon to DBZA specifically. Their CaC, Dumplin is a young Mr. Popo.
@@wyattwear815 Yup, basically Duplin is Mr Popo before he became well.... who we know him now. and Xenoverse 2 follows Duplin and Towa's "daughter" Puddin, alongside other ocs they made cause they went for the platinum and got it. (Before all of the DLC came through)
Oh man. That "even you best buddy" line hit different. I felt that too Eric. And the callback no/yes joke was perfectly inserted. These guys are masters of their craft.
Especially with Daima on the way. I know it seems like that series will mostly be its own thing, but I assume Eric will react to that while it airs and it’d be cool if Calvin and Aaron could catch up and join him on those reactions. Even though I’d prefer they react to Dragon Ball Z, it’d probably be more efficient if they went with Dragon Ball Z Kai. Also would bet on them really getting a kick out of the movies. With Super they could just substitute the first two arcs with Battle of Gods and Resurrection ‘F’, then it’s just the Universe 6, Goku Black and Universe Survival sagas.
In case anyone didn't catch it, the title card for the Vegito bit (At least it isn't Vegerot) is a nod to the (english) manga where Vegito's name was Vegerot.
It's Poetic u guys just showed up in the TFS Creator Commentary of Broly! since that movie is the most viewed from TFS! they were talking about watching reactors and Blind Wave showing up in the reel!
It wasn't just "some" people it was two bad guys who enjoyed killing people. Before they get to Buu they killed a elderly couple just for fun. They got to Buu, shot the dog and chaos ensued. Buu killed one of them quite brutally as well.
I know you guys have a particular way you choose what series to do, but given that it's only Eric reacting to most mainline Dragonball content these days I feel like it'd be cool if you all reacted to some Dragonball. Like maybe have everyone react to DBZ Kai, since it cuts down + re-dubs DBZ into a pretty decent starting point. Just a thought, since I'd love to see the whole group enjoying DB.
Responded to someone else suggesting this and I agree! Have Calvin and Aaron react to Kai, then the two most recent Z movies, then the last three Super arcs in time for Daima. I’m sure Eric will react to that series so it’d be cool if they could join him on that.
1:05:55 actually, that was a gag IN dbz Goten literally in canon messes up and calls its the Kamekameha, if I recall its because he semi-sloppily imitated it from seeing Gohan do it or hearing people reference the attack. In order to show his immense potential and battle skill just like his dad, the show chooses to have him pull the attack out on a whim like that and use it successfully *despite* messing up the name
Lol! Okay, I missed it when they first uploaded, but at 24:12 Towa is a character from the demon realm that has only appeared in db online, xenoverse, most recently in db Kakarot and more prominently in dragonball heroes. She Dabura's sister.
I have laid dormant for a thousand years... It's great to see you guys reacting to these bits. I have watched your reaction to the DBZA series so many times. I love you all and wish you the best. Also, nail and kami were missing in all these bits
15:55 I am 35 years old. I have been watching dragon ball z since I was like 5. I know so much about dragon ball. Videl's name being an anagram of devil in theme with her fathers name.............................was something I just learned today.
The mouth popping open on Super Buu is a TFS edit! They wanted to lean a bit more into Majin Buu's eldritch/cosmic horror nature, and considering Buu is a shapeshifter and his lesser predecessor Cell could copy the voices of his prey, its perfectly plausible. Easily my favorite bit from DBZA
42:05 actually yes they did have that planned. They did a Q/A on one of their channels a few years ago and someone asked them about some buu saga jokes they were planning on doing and Gohan’s “I am adult” was always planned. Sam with Vegeta saying “Best buddy” during his sacrifice. Lani actually posted it on his Twitter doing the voice over, a few years ago. He used a manga panel rather than the actual clip for the show. I don’t remember all of the other jokes they mentioned that they wanted to do, but I think a good chunk of them, they had already planned out.
Just so yall know the kamekameha joke is also a joke they do in the original. It's not really a TFS joke TFS just added the "why say it at all' "because it sounds cool!" In the original Trunks just laughs at him and says he said it wrong and it ends there. Edit: didn't know about the other "kamekameha" thing. I don't think that's the reference but that's funny. Also note on why there are 2 types of fusions here. There was originally only supposed to be metamoran fusion (or fusion dance) but when Goku and Vegeta were gonna fuse the Janemba movie was being made and Gogeta (the metamoran fusion of Goku and Vegeta) was in that movie, so to not steal the movie's thunder Toriyama added Potara Fusion. The Potara fusion not being permanent is also explained. The potara are earings given to Supreme Kai only and only Supreme Kai are supposed to use the fusion. If 2 mortals use it than it is not permanent. Since mortals have never used it before the Supreme Kai's didn't know this, so they told Goku it was permanent. A lot of this is really just Toriyama making stuff up as he goes though. For example Shin never telling Goku about Potara fusion is basically just explained as he never knew it existed and only the older kais knew about it, which is why Elder Kai told them about it and not Shin.
@@SimsinWonderland Yes that's why I said Toriyama made up stuff as they go. Originally they were supposed to be permanently fused but Toriyama retconned that. The cannon reason is that only fusions with a god involved will be permanent. Fusions with only mortals are not.
So couple of things. When the dog gets killed Fat Buu ends up ejecting his evil which forms into a skinny grey evil Buu who ends up absorbing Fat Buu and becoming Super Buu. Gohan is the strongest singular (not counting any fusions) character in all of DBZ. The Potara fusion was initially thought to be permanent in DBZ, with the leading theory of why they split being magic when Buu absorbed them, though was retconned in DBS to it's only permanent for Kai's
I would love for you guys to go back and rewatch the whole series in order again! You are my favourite reaction channel and DBZA never misses. Maybe you can bring someone new to watch also, and have Aaron there as we never got to see him react to episodes 1-40ish. Thanks as always guys!
To clarify, Babbidi didnt say "toei" he said 'Towa', Dabura's sister from the Dragonball Xenoverse games, was "going to be pissed at him" for getting her brother killed. And then he said, "who cares, b**ch is barely canon". Because she is exclusively in the games Xenoverse and Super Dragonball Heroes. Of course, this is even funnier because its been said that TFS's playthough of Xenoverse 1 and 2 are canon to the events of DBZA. Take a look that the Abridged Mr Popo wiki page for more about that
What a great way to wake up and start the day! 😁 TFS didn’t lose their touch at all and I’m glad I get to continue the tradition of watching Blind Wave react to them. 😊
Reason Goten says Kamekameha is because he actually just doesn't remember it is Kamehameha and says it wrong. They have an entire move for it in the games where it is a faster but weaker version of the normal attack.
I really love The Buu Bits and this was such a fun reaction but like Eric said, this wasn't made to be a coherent story alternative like the rest of Abridged. I know your schedule is pretty big at the moment but it would be so cool if Eric, Calvin and Aaron react to the buu saga and then super (or at least watch it in their own time) so they can join in on future dragon ball reactions with Eric. Having the three of you to discuss things in the new content would be pretty awesome :D
I remember discovering this channel through the DBZA reaction in 2016, this feels redeeming to see Calvin who knew little about the franchise back then he had to look away at the intro to not be spoiled to where's he at now. Anyways top tier content you guys, keep going much love !
1:14:07 Would be nice to finally have Rick react to DBZA (with Eric, of course). We had a tease of that with your reaction to Plan to Eradicate Christmas, but I've been blue-balled ever since.
Also! If you guys are up for more Monkey King shenanigans, I can HEARTILY recommend Overly Sarcastic Productions' summaries of the original Journey To The West. They've got a good eight or ten episodes out now, and it's VERY well told.
17:40 that feeling when: You're trying to give context to your friends about the deeper lore of what they're seeing (him explaining the God/Kai hierarchy) Which causes you to go off on a tangent because you remember an extra level of context (him taking a second to try and explain that Grand Kai exists but is only shown in the filler) But then your friend's cut you off with a question that you're more than happy to answer (who's body do I get) Which results in you completely forgetting to finish your previous thought (RIP Grand Kai, you wont be explained) Only those of us who love to share things and are chronic explainers experience such suffering 😂
Erik you NEED to show them the original funimation Super Saiyan 3 scene. They need to experience the entire 5 minute long scream session. Don't even have to record it. It's just so amazing.
I'm very happy this finally happened. The DBZA reactions were actually how I first discovered Blind Wave, many years ago now, so to see it come full circle, just like how TFS came full circle with these Buu Bits in the first place, warms my heart in a weird parasocial way. I'm still very excited for a Rick reacts to DBZA, you've hinted at it a couple times and it gets me hyped every time.
Its always funny thinking back to DB where there was 1 god and it was Kami. Then we had King Kai, then... Man it just kept going. Im still expecting another even higher level god to appear.
Hey, are you guys ever gonna finish reacting to Hellsing Ultimate Abridged? You guys just kinda left it at episode 8 even though 9 and 10 have been out for years now...
Bibidi only awoken Majin Buu as Majin Buu existed long before Bibidi even was born. There are hints that Moro may be responsible for Majin Buu's manifestation as Majin Buu was a mass of chaotic energy that would go into cycles of rampage and hibernation.
I was hoping they would lean into how legitimately terrifying Buu can be and they did it! The voices of those he’s eaten screaming from his skin is A grade body horror. Also I laughed so hard at Popo being the one to fully charge the Spirit Bomb with just one hand that I couldn’t breathe.🤣🤣🤣 And hearing Ultimate Gohan finally say “I AM AN ADULT” followed by one of the most brutal gut punches I’ve seen to this day.👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
52:13 Okay, GT was not perfect by any means, but SS4 is easily one of the most badass transformations in the franchise. Plus the concept of the Shadow Dragons is just awesome.
I really like they changed Vegeta asking if he'll see Goku instead of what will happen because Vegeta already died to Freeza. Now he knows Goku is dead too, just finishing out his day, so he has different priorities.
29:55 in the latin america dub piccolo never mentioned goku he only said vegeta kill too many people so his body will dissapear and his soul will lost all his memory to be use in a new life, this makes more sense because goku put in risk the earth in the android and majin buu saga when he had the oportunity to ended quickly before everything start to getting worse so piccolo praising goku wouldnt makes sense
Gohan is my favorite character and it’s because of his time in this arc. I just wish he stayed or eventually reclaims the title of main character. Toriyama may not have liked writing for him, but I think he’s the key for dragon ball to recover to its glory. Also Buu is my favorite villain and him saying “Buu has played this game” made me want to crap my pants because that was just GENUINELY terrifying. I’m sad that TFS couldn’t do the Buu saga as it’s my favorite in dragon ball. It has the most famous moments and mistakes I hope people recognize aren’t new to the franchise. Buu saga just has everything for the better and worse. And it’s what allows me to enjoy Super so much more than most even with its shortcomings.
Buu Saga just has tremendously bad pacing. It starts off incredibly slowly, then picks up ridiculously fast once Shin shows up, then slows way back down once Fusion is brought into the picture. The writing is still fine overall and it does have some awesome moments, but the whole thing is just bogged down by so much fluff. Watching episode to episode feels like erosion, and binging it makes everything sort of just meld together. There isn't really a great way to watch the Buu saga.
@@jacobmonks3722 again, I do get people’s complaints, but I feel similarly about other sagas and it’s fluff. And the weird consistency of the main character of the arcs never being apart of the finale despite being the focus. Vegeta, Krillin, and Gohan are the main characters of Namek, and yet Goku fulfills the finale role. Goku, Trunks, and Piccolo are the main driving points of Cell/Android saga and Gohan fulfills the finale role, but everyone only remembers Gohan being the main character of Buu along with Trunks and Goten, and yet Goku once again fulfills the finale role. I’m not saying it’s perfect, but I feel like Buu saga is the best representation of Dragon ball between its mistakes and it’s coming to fame moments. I LOVE certain fights and love pretty much EVERY transformation. But Dragon ball just drags at times. Sometimes it’s from manga being unwritten, sometimes it’s just a break in pace. And there are NUMEROUS points where I say THAT is how you’re going to get the conflict to move to its next stage?! I just think DBZ is a flawed series, but I love the exact same things as everyone else in it. And I feel like DBS while it has its own problems yes that SUCK, once again captures what is beloved AND what is hated. And GT is a LOT more suck than capturing what is beloved outside Ssj4.
Tbf, it's not that he didn't LIKE writing Gohan. It's that he couldn't figure out how. To quote totally not mark, "Gohan is a reactionary character" but toriyama only ever wrote pro active main characters. It wasn't his typical style, so he struggled, and eventually just brought Goku back.
I was lucky enough to watch the Buu Saga when it originally aired, just like Eric. I'm so, _so_ glad that Team Four Star went back and covered some of it. It may not have been everything, but they got all the scenes that counted. That conversation with Vegeta and Piccolo and that bit with the narrator made me cackle. Good times.
I'm so glad I watched the reaction from you guys because I never new about the context of the narrator coming back for Vegeta's final atonement as I learned most of DBZ's story through the games as a kid. So knowing that now with the clip of the narrator saying "Vegeta fucking dies" makes it SO much funnier.
Filling in the story details a bit for those who don't know. Gohan went to school and when he saw crime had to stop it, going to Bulma for a costume to hide his identity, creating Sayaman. Videl also is a vigilante who works with the cops, and tries to apprehend Gohan, eventually discovering his identity and blackmails him to fight in the tournament AND teach her how to fly in order to not reveal the secret. Great Heroes who die are allowed to keep their bodies to train in the afterlife, and are apparently given a certain amount of Life energy and 1 Day to return. Going SSJ3 actually drained a large portion of that energy shortening his time on earth Majin Buu was sealed and to break the seal, a massive amount of energy was needed. 2 Humans enhanced by Babidy were sent to find people to steal energy from. Shin knew about this and entered the tournament as well. He has his attendant Order Gohan to transform into SSJ to bait them to steal his energy, He went SSJ2, Kibito sealed Gohans movements, and they stole half the energy needed to ressurect Buu from Gohan. Kibito then healed Gohan as the rest followed the thieves. Buu's Original form is actually that mindless Child form we see later on. Bibity sent him againt the 5 Supreme Kais, where he killed 2 of them, and absorbed 2 others. The latter of which, the Grand Supreme kai was fat and super kind, which turned Kid buu into the Tamer, kinder, Fat buu. Goku learned the Fusion dance from some others in the afterlife, and taught it to Goten and Trunks. They then trained in the Hyperbolic Time chamber, eventually Luring Buu in there as well. Gohan was left for dead by Buu and saved by Shin, who then trained on the Kai planet. They went for an ultra heavy Sword which actually was just a seal for the Elder Supreme kai, who pissed of a God in the past and was sealed away in it. He did an unlocking potential ritual on Gohan creating Ultimate Gohan. Mr Satan was sent to kill Buu, much like with Cell, but Goku had already convinced Buu to kill Babity and go free, thus Buu was able to be guided by kindness from Satan. Buu was just starting to become kind and care for people and animals, when the assassin showed up and shot the dog. Buu went mad and lost control, splitting into Good Buu and Bad Buu. Bad Buu won, absorbing Good buu, becoming Super Buu, the Thin adult form with some intelligence and great evil. Eventually, while fighting Ultimate Gohan, Buu pulls a trick to absorb Piccolo and Gotenks, becomming stronger than Ultimate Gohan. Gotenks unfuses, and Buu pulls another Trick to absorb Gohan, forcing Goku and Vegeta to fuse.
A missed Note, Goku actually wasn't allowed to go back to Earth at this point. The Elder Kai gave up his live to revive Goku (a touching moment until he got right back up with a Halo over his head to yell at them for wasting time) Vegeto toys with Super Buu (Gohan absorbed), and eventually intentionally gets himself absorbed with a barrier put up so that he could run around inside and free everyone. This worked and turned Buu into Kid Buu, a weaker but mindless rampaging monster, his original form. He is actually weaker than SSJ3 Goku, but Goku is too drained to win a fight, and even then its no guarantee of victory. Kid Buu then blows up the world, with Goku having only just enough time to save Dende and Mr Satan who happened to be nearby. They then lure Buu to the Kai planet use King Kai to coordinate with the Namekians to use Porunga to wish back the Earth. Goku goes for the spirit bomb, Mr Satan gives a passionate speech to get the earthlings to give up some power for it, and they launch it. It still isn't enough. They then have the eureka moment to use Porungas Final wish to restore Goku to full energy, which is enough to power up the spirit bomb and push it into Kid buu, beating him for good. Now all that is left is Fat Buu, who was separated when Vegeto took everyone out. He gets rehabilitated into a good person with Mr Satan and Bulmas influence. Buu is reincarnated as a Human, presumably because he is so dangerous to deal with in the afterlife.
42:00 Yes. This is one of the jokes that they have said they had planned for the Buu Saga. 52:30 Pretty sure they said Towa, not Toei. Towa is the sister of Dabura, and appears in several Dragon Ball video games.
I stand by Abridged being the reason Dragonball Super etc exists today. Toriyama made Battle of Gods because the Hollywood system mistreated him so badly during production of Dragonball Evolution- and the reason Evolution happened was because Dragonball Z was trending super hard at the time. And the reason it was trending? DBZA. Cause and effect.
15:05 i just realized... That "all of them?!" is the same Piccolo used back in the Namek saga, when Gohan told him that all the namekians had been transported to Earth, then Piccolo yeld: "ALL OF THEM?!", and thus, the Great Guru made his final appearance
It's a call back to the English dub. When Goku and piccolo fought in the tournament he shoots Goku through the arm. Goku mentions he missed his vital organs, and that's when piccolo shouts the line.

Nowadays, Briner is a little too busy and higher profile to do the Gohan voice for this so they recast but the creators have gone out and said in their commentaries that their biggest regret from not doing Season 4 was not getting Briner to do the role

They felt as though having his edgey, broken down, 24-year old voice wouldn't fit the younger, goofier, sane persona he has in the Buu arc

Even though I’d prefer they react to Dragon Ball Z, it’d probably be more efficient if they went with Dragon Ball Z Kai. Also would bet on them really getting a kick out of the movies.

In the manga Videl instantly figured out who Great Saiyaman is by asking him by name how he got out class… which he answered like a dummy 😂
I thought in the anime at least it was supposed to be permanent for Goku and Vegeta?
@@SimsinWonderland Yes that's why I said Toriyama made up stuff as they go. Originally they were supposed to be permanently fused but Toriyama retconned that. The cannon reason is that only fusions with a god involved will be permanent. Fusions with only mortals are not.
Goten actually does say Kamekameha and they even include it as it’s own move in certain Dragon Ball games

And then he said, "who cares, b**ch is barely canon". Because she is exclusively in the games Xenoverse and Super Dragonball Heroes.

Akira Toriyama never took DBZ very seriously, but by the time the Buu Saga came around, he was clearly so sick of working on it.
The saga really does drag on.
That's because his editors kept changing his ideas

Actually, Babidi said Towa was gonna be pissed, referring to Towa from the recent Dragonball games who's related to Dabura.
Going SSJ3 actually drained a large portion of that energy shortening his time on earth
Majin Buu was sealed and to break the seal, a massive amount of energy was needed.
The Elder Kai gave up his live to revive Goku (a touching moment until he got right back up with a Halo over his head to yell at them for wasting time)
Vegeto toys with Super Buu (Gohan absorbed), and eventually intentionally gets himself absorbed with a barrier put up so that he could run around inside and free everyone.
Absolutely go through abridged again. would be amazing to watch with some of your other members
42:00 Yes. This is one of the jokes that they have said they had planned for the Buu Saga.
52:30 Pretty sure they said Towa, not Toei. Towa is the sister of Dabura, and appears in several Dragon Ball video games.
Aaron complaining about rules in a series he’s only watched the abridged version of is very Aaron
yeah, its very annoying at times
Yeah it isn't until near the end of super where Vegeta realizes that Goku's family is his pride, and Vegeta also understands that same fact.
I was so happy to see this in my feed, I really enjoyed your original reaction and was waiting for this!
I have the buu saga on dvd and Goten actually said Kamekameha in the tournament
Good callback
It's a call back to the English dub. When Goku and piccolo fought in the tournament he shoots Goku through the arm. Goku mentions he missed his vital organs, and that's when piccolo shouts the line.
