Yes, the rabbit sent to the moon was true. It was an early episode of DragonBall (within the first 10 episodes). It was when dragon ball still indirectly did folklore in the series. Trunks' max power form is actually something that's been around since very early Dragon Ball. Roshi used it as early as episode 14, right before the first Kamehameha of the series. Trunks using it is a symptom of Vegeta's greatest disadvantage as a teacher- he's unapproachable. Goku and Gohan discussing the form while training probably stemmed from Gohan discovering it and coming to his father. If Trunks could've talked to Vegeta about it, he likely would have stopped pursuing it while training and could've gotten stronger in a more meaningful way.
1:38 the story of Dragon Ball Z was supposed to be about how Gohan gradually becomes stronger and more powerful than Goku and takes up the mantle of earth protector from him. But in the end, Goku and his rivalry with Vegeta just stole the show in every opportunity and so they just kept bringing him back from the dead and making him and/or vegeta the main focus
True, Toriyama did say the original story was supposed to be about how Goku passes on the mantle of protector of earth to his son, the eventual progression of responsibility passing from father to son trope, but in the end through DragonBall Z the fan reaction to Gohans character was so mild and negative that he chose to keep the story focused on Goku.
@@josephthiel9695actually Gohan was voted fan favorite after Cell, Toriyama shifted back to Goku because Gohan is a passive protagonist and Goku is active. That’s why Dragon Ball turns into a super hero comic for an arc before Buu shows up because Gohan was only reactive. However Toriyama didn’t think that made an affective protagonist
@@Braffman I think in the Buu Saga, Toriyama just kept flip flopping. Buu was turning good, and no fighting. So nope, let's turn him evil so much fighting. Gohan was deemed as "The One" and made into a Super God, the most strongest mortal to exist. But then nope, he lost anyways so Goku could save the day. With how powerful Super Buu was, Goku couldn't kill him logically, so had to literally retcon how Buu's 'Candy Beam' works and logic, and literally retconned how the kai earings worked, to set up the removal of Good Buu and turn him into kid buu, "The weakest form" so that Goku could kill him. The story just heavily flips flops all over the place on who will beat Buu, how they would beat him, and even why they would beat him.

The soundtrack at 3:42:00 is actually a cover of the japanese soundtrack played in the original release. Also the bird was not edited in. It was actually part of the original
Jimmy Firecracker: “By the way, does the fat green one come back? Because he was pretty funny.” Cell: “Psh, I wish!” It makes it even funnier when you realize Takahata, Cell’s VA, also voiced Lord Guru
I only just realized it now, but Goku did the same thing that Master Roshi did in Dragonball. (22nd Tenka-Ichi Budoukai) Halfway through the fight, just gives up without going all out, anticlimactically... and is like... Hey short monkey boy, beat this guy! It's time for the new Generation to take over.
That was the sole reason for this saga, to show Gohan had surpassed Goku [technically Gohan was SSJ2 during this fight, and Goku saw his climb in power during their time in the room], and Goku/Vegeta still stole the show, especially from Goku's sacrifice/Vegeta finally putting his pride aside for his son, Trunks. Once [everyone] found out Goku was officially gone, there were many petitions against Toriyama/Production and so they ixnayed the 'Gohan becoming the new protector of Earth', and then severely axed his power [nay we remind you of the Great Saiyaman saga?], seeing as with the Namekian Dragonballs anyone can be brought back as many times as they want.

Chichi is fairly strong, at this point in the story she is probably the most powerful human woman in DBZ. Edit: *at this point* in the timeline Chichi is the strongest human woman, i.e. with 18 absorbed and Videl a little girl.
@@piusdoe8984 18 does become the strongest after becoming human, but I find it difficult to believe that Videl at roughly 9-11 years of age with no ki training is stronger than Chi-Chi
I remember back in the day, the info about the android's name's and 16 being the doctor's was mentioned by the creator. I can remember if it was interview or publication but that info was supposedly released after the show or arc. It was so long ago it could have been a playground rumor or something like when he forgot that he changed Bullma's hair color. Her hair color was originally future Trunks' hair color and that's why Trunks had lavender hair.
Nah if I remember correctly in the DBZA creator commentary they mentioned the interview happened around the time they were making this arc that's why they included it directly in their cannon and made that extra scene to tie it together with Goku causing the revenge plot, in the og DBZ Dr. Giro just did it cause Goku defeated the red ribbon and nothing to do with his son. So you definitely remember correctly.
So about Teen Gohan: Saiyans grow in spurts. They don't slowly get larger by a tiny amount every day over their lives into their adult form like humans do. They stay a baby until suddenly evolving like a pokemon into a child, then their next form is teen, then adult, and then silverback. Teen is just the name of the form Gohan will be through his teens. It doesn't mean they're actually a teenager yet.
I hope that’s true and not just artistic inconsistency, because there was a time where trunks in DBS was still as small as he was in the buu saga, when he was 13 and the same age as future trunks in history of trunks, so he should be bigger by then
That’s some cool head canon (the truth is the dub just mislabeled youth gohan as teen and it was too late to change it when he showed up again in the buu saga) In jp he’s just gohan(youth) and buu saga gohan is gohan (teen)
@@SardonicVida From the Dragonball Wiki: In terms of physical development, this differs by Saiyan as it does with Earthlings. Most full-blooded Saiyans appear to grow in spurt phases, as seen through Goku.[40][41] Saiyans appear identical to that of a Earthling baby in their early years, although they are born with a full head of hair more often than Earthlings, but also appear to grow at somewhat slower rates. Goku at the age of 12 was actually about the same size as his future son Gohan (who is half-Earthling) would be at the age of 5. Bulma herself believed Goku to be that young when they first met, but was shocked to find out he was actually 12.[42][43] By the age of 18, Goku had undergone his largest spurt phase; he became significantly taller and more muscular, going from half the size of Yamcha to nearly matching him three years later.[44] General height and built once fully grown can still differ between Saiyans the same as Earthlings as Vegeta, who is five years older than Goku, is noticeably shorter and smaller overall. This is supported by Super Hero, in which Piccolo is surprised that Goten and Trunks had grown significantly since the last time he saw them. Gohan appears to be aware of the way Saiyans grow, as he tells Piccolo that they stay small for a long time before hitting a sudden growth spurt that brings about better fighting physiology.
One of the funniest things about episode 60 is that it took so long to make that the DBFZ reference in part 3 couldn't have been made at the start of the episode's production, because DBFZ didn't even get announced by the time episode 59 released.
I think one of the best and funniest creative decisions they make in this show is keeping Tien and Trunks (and to a lesser extent Piccolo) as basically the exact same characters they were in the original, just reacting to all the insanity happening around them. The ultimate straight men because they are just lifted right out of a serious anime.
The reason Goku and Gohan can stay in SSJ form is because they figured out how to power up without expelling excess ki. That flame-y aura you see them all have when they powerup is them expelling ki. That's how the scouters were able to detect them from far away.
"they should've brought in the soundtrack of the actual show" he says as an English cover of the OG song that played when Gohan first went ssj 2 plays.....
3:58:50 so in canon Goku does not tell King Kai, but he brings Cell there to minimize risk as the only ones effected are King Kai, Bubbles and Gregory since they're in Otherworld away from everyone via Snake Way. Goku had to bring him there because he can only Instant Transmission to a source of energy. When he brings Cell to King Kai's, King Kai is obviously surprised but simply says "Well you could've called first" with a jovial tone
It's 100% exclusive to offscreen, but we all know Vegeta went to confront Popo again in a serious match to discover he's stronger than even Perfect Cell in the Abridged continuity
3:42:18 "they should have used this soundtrack in the actual show". They... they did. The original japanese dub had this song, it's named "Spirit vs Spirit". And it is substantially more emotional than the honestly crappy inner monologue Gohan has that takes away all the emotional buildup. *edit* regarding why they quit, it wasn't just the copyright nonsense. Well, it didn't help. But they were very burned out on the series. They were working on Bojack and had to shelve it because they couldnt get it to work. There was a fully year where they only had 2 or 3 episodes out (the semi perfect cell ones I think). And it took a full year to work on the final episode (which was essentially a feature-length film given its length). Also, they or at least Kaiser, strongly felt that this ending was about as good as it gets to end the series (and he only made 60-4 as a way to finish off remaining plot points and properly end the Cell saga). And finally they just were not major fans of the Afterworld Tournament, Gohan goes to Highschool, and the Buu saga. So despite initially saying "we will see you in season 4", they decided to just end the series where it did. Honestly, I feel it was a good call. As Lani puts it "I will be damned if we let DBZA turn into Scrubs season 9". And we got the Buu bits so, yay :) *edit 2* Oh wow I realised you guys missed the final episode of DBZA. Episode 60 had a 4th part, where Trunks returns to his timeline.
If I remember correctly, I'm pretty sure Toriyama stated somewhere that if Cell hadn't moved, that Final Flash would've killed him. So the Abridged "OH SHIT!" is such a valid abridged line
2:29:41 I just realized that this was TFS's easter egg about how Goten got his name.. "Go for ten." Its been years and I'm STILL finding tidbits like this all over their show! Absolutely genius.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Tambourine essentially cave Krillin's head in? Even if not, he was a damn problem. The whole sequence where he hunts down the previous tournament competitors is _terrifying._
And about teleporting Cell to Kai's planet: Goku's Instant Transmission only takes him to places near people. He targets by sensing their energy. He can't just teleport to deep space unless there's someone there he knows. Hence, Kai.

Just thought about it, but Yamcha should be about as big a star as Hercule. Unless Baseball just isn't a big deal in the DBZ world. But in Japan it's a rather big deal. While Yamcha may be the weakest, he's had far more exposure than the others. Just would've been funny for them to acknowledge "even baseball superstar Yamcha is here to fight Cell" or something.
2:29:25 so in case y’all didn’t know, In the original dragon ball anime/manga, Bulma and Goku meet in the very first episode. And the way they meet is exactly as Cell describes: Bulma shooting Goku in the face because she freaked out about how he almost got her killed when crashing, or almost crashing, into him. And while I’m at it, Goku sending a rabbit to the moon is actually something that happened.
fun fact: the guy who voiced Trunks is also the main editor of the series and at the time he didnt believe he was good enough to do Trunks's voice justice. i think he more than proved himself with the screams in this vid
@ 3:18:46 goku giving cell the senzu bean is the smartest decision he made. The moment cell realized gohan was stronger than him he revert to blow up the Earth through self destruction. Goku prolonged that by giving cell a senzu bean
People forget goku isn’t stupid he’s ignorant he lived isolated in the mountains till he was 12 only interacting with his adoptive grandfather for the first part then being completely alone for the second part he never had a day of education outside of roshi and launch teaching him how to read and do basic arithmetic when he was 12-13
no he is literally brain damaged its why he didnt try to take over earth. its stated in dragon ball. before his grandpa found him he fell in his Saiyan pod breaking the fall with his skull.
1:26:12 and #18 has a fantastic point here. Krillin does the right thing really, if he killed her here, he'd be committing murder, essentially doing a bad deed before she gets a chance to do one herself. In the Abridged story, I've noticed she only attacked Vegeta in self-defence. And let's face it, in his arrogance, he was asking for it 😂 Vegeta: "I can finally get around to disassembling you, you smug c**t!" He asked for a beating 😂 his sexism and misogyny here was beyond belief, even for Vegeta 😂😂
I just realized when cell said anything can make him pop including “a wafer thin mint” that it was a direct reference to Monty pythons the meaning of life when the big guy exploded from eating one… and for that I have so much more respect for TFS and appreciates them for referencing a classic.
Mid 80's baby here and I grew up with the original. When I stumbled upon abridged a decade or so ago I fell in love. Basically took a nostalgic show and revamped it with adult humor. Thanks TFS
In og Dragon Ball, Goku actually did send a rabbit to the moon. I can't remember the exact story, but pretty much Goku fought a rabbit mob boss then used the power pole to bring the rabbit and a couple of it's henchmen up to the moon. They were forced to make mochi on the moon and, according to a Q&A (or interview, I forget), once Roshi blew up the moon, they didn't die. They were launched off into space and are supposedly still floating through space to this day.
For anyone who doesn’t understand the whole senzu bean stuff. Goku didn’t want cell to get desperate and blow up the planet after losing to Gohan therefore he powered him back up to further fuel Cells confidence we see that later on when Gohan starts toying with him and he gets desperate and almost blows up the planet. So to most it’s seen as a dumb move from Goku but it was all calculated even before fighting cell
I'm only just making this connection now(in easily 50+ watchthroughs of Abridged), but I like how how they try to imply that 16 may never have given his speech to Gohan had Gohan chosen to wear a Gi like Goku's, because he hated orange so much.
I know it’s just for the plot to advance, but realistically; how does Bulma create a radar that can detect exactly where the dragon balls are, yet can’t create a remote detonator that can explode the androids from further away? Always thought it was a little silly
“Now I’m monoplegic and Cell’s gonna kill us all!” “I’m… sorry…” “…Oh wow, we are fucked.” Is objectively one of the funniest jokes in the entire show. Like, if VEGETA is apologizing, you know you’re down TRAGICALLY bad.
1:57:14 Yes, that actually happened. It was during Goku's very first hunt for the dragon balls as a kid. Monster Carrot was a giant rabbit and mob boss that could turn people into carrots and eat them. Goku defeated him with his power pole and then used it to take him to the moon where he was forced to make treats for children for a year. However, the moon was then destroyed by Master Roshi to stop Goku when he turned into Oozaru during the World matial arts tournament.
Because of this saga there are now three separate timelines. There's the one we watch unfold, there's the one Trunks came from, and there's the one Cell came from.
Having grown up with this series since the namik saga, it always brings a tear to my eyes watching the ending again. Those guys at team four star poured their hearts into this series.
For real. And it's so sad how much adversity from the actual creative team came their way. Tbeh, I wouldn't be a dragon ball fan without abridged, and I know many people who would at least not be BIG fans, if not fans in general, if not for abridged.
Tbh you could argue he also hated it because it made most of the community stupid to believe some of the things in it, like how goku is a bad dad. Goku isn’t the greatest father of all time but he isn’t bad.
"And he sent a rabbit to the Moon!" This is in reference to the very beginning of Dragonball [Issue 2; Chapter 7], after Bulma met Goku and Oolong, they started their adventure, and came across a town plagued by the Rabbit Mob. Bulma, at the time, was wearing a bunny suit [like a Playboy bunny] and this town was terrorized by a rabbit-man [named Monster Carrot; he could turn anyone into a carrot with the touch of his hand]. Long story short, Goku sent him and his henchmen to the moon to make marshmallow treats for children [presumably for eternity]. Yeah. After writing it out, it's very farfetched.
Gohan: "Down a arm and killed by a android. Why does it fell so familiar" daaaaaamn
In hindsight, Cell's "Don't lose your head" line to 16 after becoming Perfect was a bit of foreshadowing lol
Earlier on when King Kai told Goku "you're gonna be the death of me" was also a bit of foreshadowing🤣
It sucks that it took hindsight, but yes, that was the joke. Honestly, they have some of the best foreshadowing humor across all of youtube.

@@josephthiel9695 and its those same fans that say Gohan never does enough.
@@josephthiel9695No, after writing the beginning of the Buu Saga, he didn’t think Gohan was suited for the role.
“I have hobbies.”
“No you don’t.”
My mind went straight to the Bald This Way video where Tien told Piccolo he had no friends and now I think Piccolo’s been holding that petty grudge this whole time.
Gohan gets his brains from his dad. Goku is a genius, but all his intelligence was put into fighting and training
Real😭😭
goku is not a genius he literally has brain damage. its shown in dragon ball. when goku first came to earth he fell and hit his head and his "granpa" gohan found him. that hit to the head is why goku didnt rampage the whole planet like vegeta was at the same time. he literally has brain damage.
Goku specked into strength and intelligence but unfortunately the intelligence was just strength in disguise

I only just realized it now, but Goku did the same thing that Master Roshi did in Dragonball. (22nd Tenka-Ichi Budoukai)
Halfway through the fight, just gives up without going all out, anticlimactically... and is like...

14:14 yes that happened in dragonball King Piccolo and his minions killed Krillin, Master Roshi, Chiaotzu and yes even the dragon Shenron. 1:57:01 no that’s 100% true Goku sent a rabbit to the moon and it’s been blown up twice since then so the rabbit is dead. 4:18:56 the reason king Kai is so mad at Yumcha is because Yumcha‘s wish was to bring back everyone killed ON EARTH by cell if he left out the “on earth” and just said everyone killed by cell king Kai would have also been revived, a lot of people don’t catch that. 4:28:12 krillin says “I am a grower” and then you hear “IT” hit the floor. That is the joke. 10:20 I did a little bit of research and what it pointed to and I don’t know if this 100% true but that guys head was something the original animators did to see if they could sneak it by the censors and they did, his head is shaped like a part of male anatomy making him a literal D!ck head.

So about Teen Gohan:
Saiyans grow in spurts.
I hope that’s true and not just artistic inconsistency, because there was a time where trunks in DBS was still as small as he was in the buu saga, when he was 13 and the same age as future trunks in history of trunks, so he should be bigger by then
That’s some cool head canon (the truth is the dub just mislabeled youth gohan as teen and it was too late to change it when he showed up again in the buu saga)
In jp he’s just gohan(youth) and buu saga gohan is gohan (teen)
@@SardonicVida From the Dragonball Wiki:
In terms of physical development, this differs by Saiyan as it does with Earthlings.

When goku wakes up and mentions that he was a ninja but it ended. I believe that was the first episode after the Naruto shippuden manga ended.
If I remember rightly cell was voiced by Damien Clarke in the original who voiced handsome Jack in borderlands 2

I mean what's a little death to a god
2:27:39 It's funny how these guys say that but also shakes their head at every semi edgy joke throughout the entire show lol.
Its also funny how they always chime in to give the one dude context, but are almost always providing him with false information lmfao
*edit*
regarding why they quit, it wasn't just the copyright nonsense.
And we got the Buu bits so, yay :)

1:26:12 and #18 has a fantastic point here.
Yugioh the abridged series would be right up yalls alley.
“Now I’m monoplegic and Cell’s gonna kill us all!”
“I’m… sorry…”
“…Oh wow, we are fucked.”
Is objectively one of the funniest jokes in the entire show.
2:52 if you can't laugh at this joke, then we can't be on the same page.

Long story short, Goku sent him and his henchmen to the moon to make marshmallow treats for children [presumably for eternity].
