@@ArtistWright . I've been playing at it by trying to design a new garden shed Im going to build later in the spring. I've done all the framework and it looks ok but I want to put a 15 deg pitched roof on it and I've no idea how to do it. Every thing else has been based around rectangles. Any hints as to how I could do it?
@@paulcharman8113 Actually upon closer inspection there is no easy way to draw a precise angle for a triangle. So i found a workaround. Grab the pie tool and draw out a pie, then at the top choose start angle 0, eng angle 15 degrees and total angle 15 degrees. Now convert than shape to curves and straighten out the curves section so it looks like half of a roof (triangle). Now duplicate that and flip it around, select both and click 'Add' in the geometry tools. you now have a 15 degree pitched roof. if you want to introduce that to your isometric design, then just click on fit to plane in the isometric panel. phew!
This has been the singular most helpful tutorial that I have done. Many of the questions I have had were answered. The only seeming difficulty is that I am on Windows but with almost everything I figured out what was different and moved forward. I did every step and am very happy with how many concepts I learned through this process. If you ever want to make a "long-winded" tutorial again on any subject Affinity, I will be right here.
I'm really happy to hear how much this has helped. I do try to include the windows shortcuts in the description of some of my tutorials, but seems like you figured that out. I will definitely make more long videos in the future. Have a splendid day
@@ArtistWright I wish it were the shortcuts that gave problems. It is that my interface often behaves differently. For instance, I press M and begin to draw a rectangle only to find that it is drawing a elipse. It changes on its own and I don't know why. Or your isometric panel is always white. Mine is greyed out except for edit in plane until after I start drawing and then I have to use fit to plane once it is available to get it to go the way I want. You simply move from one action to another. Once again, don't know why but I will continue until I figure it out. Once again, my thanks
Ahhh so to your problem with Designer choosing an ellipse instead of a rectangle, this is how it works. You press M, Affinity will then select the shape you were on last (that might be a rectangle, ellipse or rounded rectangle). If you press M again it will cycle to the next shape of those 3. Try it, you can press M and see it go through those options
I cant say I've ever seen the isometric panel greyed out. But I do know that you can't play around with any of the isometric options until you click on modify grid. (a pop up box called 'grid and axis manager' appears click on show grid, and then set an isometric grid by choosing 'advanced' then on 'grid type' select 'isometric' . You will then see the options appear in the 'isometric' tab. If it says the active grid does not allow plane selection click on enable planes.
Excellent demonstration , super clear audio video , cover up almost anything I need for starting up an isoimetric drawing with this software. Thank you so much , appreciate all your works . Very good teacher too …5 thumbs for you !!!
@@ArtistWright I bought photo and designer when they first came out, but have barely had the opportunity to use them properly. This will be a good refresher.

Thank you! I learned so much. I noticed that there are some definite differences between Aff Des 1 and the new release of Aff Des 2. Could you please go over how the differences would impact this process?
@@ArtistWright oh yeah already watched it, I'm getting further the rabbit hole. I had a question about the lolly/ice cream bite, if you want to make rounded edges, is there another way than the one you used in this video (Isometric Cube with Rounded Corners and Smooth Edges ua-cam.com/video/TuJCce9cc64/v-deo.html), without having the gaussian blur affecting the whole color gradient inside the bite ?
I am seeing a hairline gap between the planes where they join. I think I saw another video by someone else mention this but I can't remember if there is a fix. Do you see this happening?
@@ArtistWright hi, its the part of making the tv. so using black stroke and then click layer > expand stroke and then only the black stroke is there but the image for the tv screen is gone.
when you create a vector rectangle you will give it a fill and a stroke. If you decide to expand the stroke, that stroke will now be separated from the fill. Meaning two layers now. Are you applying a stroke to a raster image or something?
don't apply a stroke to the actual jpeg. Just make a separate stroke the same size as the jpeg (turn on snapping and it will snap to the bounds of the jpeg).
Wow ! ... A bit of a challenge, bu I overcame it.. Thanks ... One Question ... My Grid is not the same as yours when I Zoom in, also my design almost dissapears when I zoom out. ... Is this becuse of the preset grid, or because I am on a laptop ??

@@ArtistWright bro, when you first started to drag the end of the square it started traveling north east at like a 45 degree angle...then you grabbed it again and it traveled straight east. I know I'm not going crazy.
@@chefhomeboiardee4574 ah yes I did that by mistake. So when the shape is selected you will see the nodes. If you hover over the the middle node you will see the arrow with two heads pointing in opposite directions, just move your curser a little further away from the shape and you should see two arrows pointing in opposite directions, now click and drag around

If you look in the bottom right hand corner it will tell you the degrees your shapes are at.
