  • Ginny Buckley reviews Honda's 1999 HRV, which is a delicate blend of SUV and compact city car, and finds out if it can be a success in the market. Honda realising that not enough young people buy their cars developed the HRV concept in the hope of luring more in, and with it's economical and low emission engine it is sure to be a success.

    I got a 2000 5 door full option manual hr-v workhorse it has now done 350k it has taken me places no other car I own could. The design of this little beast is just so beautiful I could just stare at it the whole day. Cruising easy on the road but when you stepped on the gas to the metal will kick the V-tec and off you go overtaking everyone on the road. 21 years old now it just doesn’t want to die it seems to be able to fix itself so I’m keeping it forever!

    my mom has an europian version of honda hrv from 1999 and it is blue. The flipping car is 20 years now, was used to pull tractors out of swamps in some village before my mom bought it, and the flipping thing still comes up to 190 km/h and reaches 7 out of 8 in the engine meter. . . my god that car is indestructible and the fact that is is very simple, just an engine, radiator, ac radiator and heater makes it very simple to diagnose and fix diy style every bad things that happens, like last week the original radiator became a fountain and I changed it to my mom in 20 minutes, btw i'm 17 so you see, that honda hrv is very powerful and very simple car. I love that car, and my mom does as well.

    Lovely looking vehicle. I saw one like this whilst visiting England 4 yrs ago. I didn't know that in a couple of years, we'd get our own HR-V. Except what we got is nowhere *near* as attractive as the 2000 model.

    As a friend of mine once said, the SUV Honda Civic, cheap and reliable. Great value for money buying used, only problem is consumptions ( 8L/100km)

    • @SargentoDuke
      @SargentoDuke 2 роки тому +2

      The consumption problem is because all first HRV are Japan Design Market, better quality but the gearbox final drive is for 100kmph max speed at 3300rpm (max torque) so you had to modify the gearbox if you want to use it at 120kmh, because stock runs at 4200rpm at that speed, soyou need to replace the final drive or the 5th gear for a longer one and the car drops 1,5 liter at 1000rpm less, but ots expensive to modify the gearbox.

    • @D_2_M
      @D_2_M 2 роки тому

      @@SargentoDuke thanks for the info. Which gear box does this car share with? Civic or CR-V?

    • @SargentoDuke
      @SargentoDuke 2 роки тому +1

      @@D_2_M D16 hydro gearbox case with CR-V internal gears, very rare. Anyway you can replace the 5th gear for the Integra LS one for low fuel consumption about 7L/100 highway 120kmh 3000rpm. The Vtec engine has even lower consumption with that mod because works at 12valve not 16v at low rpm.

    • @SargentoDuke
      @SargentoDuke 2 роки тому

      If you want to lower consumption you need 195/65/16 tyres, qnd buy another intake air sensor and fit it to the metal tube that recirculate engine air to intake box: thinner tyres and the IAT on a hot location will low a lot thw consumption on this car.

    My 2001 CR-V has amazing visibility and large mirrors as well. It's also available with AWD and seems to be much more popular than the HR-V. And unlike Honda's hopes, it didn't seem to catch on with the younger crowd and still doesn't seem to, whereas the first two generations of the CR-V seem to be catching on, especially because many younger people like myself are looking for a reliable, practical and fun-to-drive car. And that's exactly what the first two generations of the CR-V accomplish.

    • @D_2_M
      @D_2_M 2 роки тому +1

      Honda being Honda they tried again with Honda Element I love the car but most young people can't afford it new. So most buyers were older people who love it's practically. Now after Honda stop making element, the price of the car slowly creeping up once again not many young ppl can afford it for the second time. Honda should just keep making it and let the older car value go down so younger buyer can buy it.

    I'm considering a 2001 1.6 i-VTEC AWD HR-V as a first car, I've run insurance and it's the cheapest quote I've had by far for an engine bigger than 1.4.

    The HR-V name is coming back. The Urban SUV Concept introduced at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show will be called HR-V at least here in the U.S. It's called Vezel in Japan and went on sale there last December. It goes on sale here in the fall.

      1 gen was cooler because it's different. They even offer two doors unlike CR-V. At least Element got a suicide doors. Current HRV and CRV look bland and boring like the rest of CUV.

      RAV4 1st gen and 2nd gen, Jimny, Sidekick, Pajero Mini or Jr. There are many but never came to USA anymore because Consumer Report scared everyone after they pushed Samurai and make sure it flipped. Been wondering why don't they do it to Jeep SWB too. After that RAV4 stop selling SWB in USA and Suzuki only sold Sidekicks X-90 and some Geo tracker GM rebadged technology.
