I’m 39 and I ran 20 miles on Jan 1st listening to Goggins. I smoked a pack a day and drank myself to sleep every night 6 months ago. Quit everything. Started running in October. Once you change your mindset it really changes how you see your possibilities. Like I just don’t care now I’m doing it. Nothing bothers me.

Jason Mitchell I’m 56. I think I’ll start doing this. Stop drinking, and live challenging life. Thanks for the motivation
Total devastation in my life. Every day is painful and I can't let up for a moment. What a gift!
Up early, cold showers, breathing exercises, meditation, workouts, full time job, building a new career and maintaining my daughter as my top priority. No one can hurt you when you're on a mission!
Don't even know why I wrote this but if you're reading it . . . YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!
Me too

That is a deep and great comment. Like number 199. Very similar for myself, all the best. 👍
I’m right here with you bro my daughter is my mission still tho everyone wants to play mind games , take you out the game , like real life setting me up in situations life or death idk bout y’all but I stick to my principles and no doubt all this hard work is paying off
Goggins saved my life, when I first heard a youtube vid with him I weighed 420bs at 6 foot and 42yrs old !! 7 months later id lost 170 of those !! and turned the rest into muscle. Still running weekly , wont ever stop, but even more importantly than motivating me to change my body he helped me fix my head !!! I own my past now and no one can hurt me ever again with what I WAS, I just stand there now as what I AM Today , and that matters more.
Wow amazing
Wooooo
Lost 170 pounds in 7 months? Im sorry that's not healthy any way you spin it.
Great. Keep grinding!
@@Ericrawnsley 5 pounds a week for 28 weeks on a person losing less than 1% of their bodyweight a week isn't that crazy unhealthy. If it were a 200 pound man losing 3 pounds every week for weeks....yeah I'm going to have to agree with you there but an very obese person losing weight over the course of half a year, that's far easier and less damaging because of all the stored bodyfat. I agree about extending it to double that time to be healthier
David Goggins is motivating not because he was a Navy Seal, ultra athlete, pull-up world record holder, etc. He is motivating because he did not let his circumstances of verbal and physical abuse control him and be a victim. When people say he is crazy or a masichist they do not understand the power that abuse has over a person. So when you hear Goggins speak you are listening to a man that is no longer a victim and is living life in freedom. #stayhard
Goggins is motivating because he tells the truth. Comfort is the enemy of growth and the secret to getting to be the real you is exercising the mind and body and there is nothing at all easy about it. Life is suffering and through the struggle we will find the true worth of who we were meant to be.

How to get David Goggins to do something:
Tell him he can't do it.
🤣🤣
David, I bet you can't put that 100 pounds back on, and finish up a full fifth of Jack within a minute
@Archee 😂😂😂
I’m gonna tell him he can’t give me $500,000 cash
I hate running. But once I began to enjoy the pain of running, I started to crave it. Eventually my mind started to clear and while I'm running, I'm at my most peaceful. My thoughts are coherent and logical. They are productive. It's the only solace I get before I go to work and deal with chaos day in and day out. When my legs and abs are sore while at rest, I know I did something great. When I leave my house to run and it's dark, and then when I get back to my house and the sun is just coming up, I know I've earned that sunrise and now I can actually start the rest of the day. I still hate running but I like who I am while I'm running.
Couldn't have explained this better.
I completely relate. I was never a "runner" and never considered myself athletic. I always loved how I felt after a run - it was my high, it really was. Hope you are still running and taking care of #1!
That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking but couldn’t articulate. Thank you
Beautifully stated!👍❣️
Try the Wim Hof method too bro, sounds like you got it figured out though so kudos to you!
I am a shitty runner but I can walk pretty good so I downloaded the audiobook and decided I’d walk the distance of a Marathon in 35+ degree weather in AUS and after approx 9 hours I did all while listening to Goggins. I’d never walked more then 5klm and I did 42klm with no training.
It really is the mind that controls the body and I tested it on this walk and I won.
I’m now training for a Charity event in 2019 to walk/run 24 hours non stop to see how far you can go. I want 100+ kilometres. Thanks Goggins you really have changed my mentality on what’s possible
Great story. Congratulations.
Tamworth NSW here.. Great stuff!!
Everybody is a shitty runner, until they start running.
Well done Bradley!!! I live in Adelaide and used to love running but I can’t run anymore due to a crushed spine.
How did you go in 2019?
I spent 11 years in the military and LIVED this mindset. Goggins and I have very similar childhoods. Now, years later, I lost that mindset as a civilian and struggled with PTSD.
Thank you David for helping me to find that old fire again...
Do you have bad habits? Do you feel stagnant or stuck on where you at? Do you really wanna transform and enhance your life like he did? What are your hinders/obstacles? In what part of your life are you struggling?

Grats. Keep it going.
Rich Roll is the BEST interviewer I have heard. It's not just a pingpong question and answer session..the way he connects, and guides and reflects...he gets so much more out of this interaction for us. And as a result we get 1000% of Goggins.
Very true. He's developed an excellent interview style.
agreed
Completely agree! Less of an interview and more of a conversation! Each episode is gold👌🏼
Totally agree
Shelia C. You're so right. Rich Roll was the first interviewer who really got my attention. I think the key is that he really listens, instead of thinking about what he was going to say next.
bought the book, and when it arrived, my 16 yr old grabbed it and asked if she could read it first! : ) You'll be inspiring a new generation
Sheila Camacho at least you're not one of those parents that slam the book because of his choice of words.
@@juanmendez3212 thank you. I'd be a hypocrite if I pretended I never drop fbombs, and my kids know it.
I just told her the language is a little harsh sometimes, but it's who he is, and I respect that. And I feel it adds (not detracts) to the intensity and delivery of his message.
My 5 year old “ear muffs” whenever I’m driving. Breaks my heart but I just can’t stop swearing. Been like this since I was 5.
Roger C mine are soon to be 14 and 17.... and I don’t swear too much... lol
@Sheila Camacho. No lie, just this morning I screamed a barrage of obscenities out the window at a guy who twice tried to hit my car and move me into another lane (I live in Bangkok BTW, worst traffic in the world). My little princess looked up at me and said “what are you saying daddy, what are your words?” She speaks three languages fluently but she never heard the one daddy was taking this morning lol
A movie about Davids life would be an award winning film
Yes please!!
100% there will be a movie about his life. It's unavoidable. The guy is one of a kind.
Never underestimate Amazon's ability to make a shitty film, lol
Hollywood would ruin it. They would squeeze in the LGBT people, slavery, and the kukuclan.
🥇🥇🥇
The best Goggins conversation I've heard yet! So nice to see the personal development.
* Get clear about who you are to find peace.
* There’s no clarity when there’s noise. You gotta stop and reflect.
* Stay in constant pursuit of your 100%.
* “I have to be very present in everything I do. If I put my 100% into what’s in front of me I will destroy it."
* People have to be willing to break themselves down and stop hiding.
* "Once I found out who I really was, that’s when I started growing."
* “It’s all about mindset. You have to change the dialogue within your head.”
@Howie Nordstrom, it’s quite interesting to see someone’s synopsis of Goggins. What you took out of it are different parts to me, but very good none the less. That goes to Goggins strength. He makes you think of finding the real you and the greatness you were destined to achieve and that is what he does for me too but I receive it through other parts of his message.
*Life is not fair, being abused is really the breeding ground for being stronger, not weaker.
*Comfort is the enemy of growth. Happiness does not always deliver results, but discomfort and removing the governors of our mind, that cause us to choose comfort and happiness, need to be removed to achieve greatness.
*Don’t float at 40%.
*Be accountable and face the truth of your failures. Accountability mirror. Take down every one of those failures one by one.
*Own the morning. The man who lands the first punch wins, mostly.
Thanks, it was cool reading your comment
I love listening to this man, I love looking at his face and seeing his intensity, sometimes his sad eyes. You just listen to him and want to up your game straightaway. And I'm a 51 year old woman :-) struggling to do just yoga every day! He is inspirational across age, gender, race and capability
Don’t worry I’m 33 and struggle to do yoga every day too!
I'm 36 and in the best shape of my life due to diet change and yoga! It's not "just yoga", Suzy and Joanna. ;) It's hard, transformational work. It's the martial art you perform against the Self. I avoided surgery and healed my spine with diet and Ashtanga yoga alone; it's a heavy duty healing modality. Even if you manage to get on your mat for 5 minutes a day; it counts, and I've made some huge strides physically simply devoting 5 minutes to a pose in my practice. Don't underestimate yourself; you deserve credit. You're taking steps to change and improve your own life. We exist in a world where most of us have been trained to be apathetic, externalize our power and happiness, and expect instant gratification. Taking the necessary steps to combat that is a big deal. Every time you step on that mat, do what David does and see yourself at the end of your journey; allow that the image to propel you forward! Keep going!!

This CD is very calming ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxzpa8CIfZcihW4Z0F_ja0QF3W9KIatrsq the first meditation focuses on breathing, the second guides you through the Buddhist metta bhavana--loving kindness to all, and the third is a meditation to be used when walking. him is originally from Scotland, so there is a little accent to his voice, but it is very soothing and not at all distracting. If you are a beginner to meditation, this CD will walk you through all the steps of relaxing and breathing as well as sending out the positive thoughts of love and kindness that will be returned to you. We have several CD's, but this one is a favorite that we choose most often.

Can’t hurt me is the most meaningful book I’ve ever read. I’m on my 5th read through in 3 years each time I take my time and try my best to get something new out of it. The last 3 years I’ve ran a half marathon went skydiving climbed pikes peak and have quit all substance abuse however I dove head first right back into a life of drugs and fornication and laziness and have picked myself back up out of it once again and am back where I was mentally 3 years ago because of David. Not takin this life for granted and using It wastefully, enjoying the process and embracing the pains and joys of training as a reminder that youre alive.

This is the best interview Goggins gave since the book came out.
Because Rich Roll is the interviewer.
The part about David saying he needed to raise himself mentally spoke to me on an atomic level. I was broken down as a child as well, in my case it was my mother that would perform the mental warfare and the beating, the games, destroying my father and the gaslighting. I had to protect myself, and the only way I could do that was to grow mentally. And I started that process at 8 years old.
24 now and in the best mental state of my life, but I never forget where I came from.

I read both books of DG and have a decent background of -let´s say- psychological knowledge. I work in the field of giving advice to patients (as a general practitioner) when it comes to questions like what can I do to change my hypertension, my obesity, my etc.problems. Many conversations are soaked with „Yes, you are right, but….“ answers. Almost every time I mention words like „discipline“ or „self responsibility“ I see a mental curtain closing down and patients quit listening carefully. But: there are a few who seem to understand - deep inside of them- and start changing. And that´s the biggest reward I can get as a medical doctor. Conversations - and books - like this keep me going like this. Thanks for these inspirational hours.
Great podcast! It’s weird that people say David Goggins is not happy. That’s all I saw was a happy guy. He’s intense as hell, but I don’t see unhappy. Will finish the book today. It’s great.
The people that say it are the unhappy ones
more grateful than happy... because he escaped his lesser self...
His point is two fold. When you’ve had the happiness beat out of you, mentally, emotionally and physically at a young or developmental age, it’s extremely hard to wire your brain later for happiness. Secondly, It isn’t necessarily a bad thing as happiness is a worthless desired state for some people. You can give a kid candy and ice cream everyday and they will be happy. And die of cancer and obesity at 40. You can be a bumbling idiot happy as all heck and that’s fine but is it the energy for growth? No. Discomfort is the energy for growth.
I agree.
I see happiness in him. He just became structure and focus.

The audiobook is way better than just reading the book.
I fell into a really dark pit with depression and anxiety. I got the audiobook late spring this year and I've been running 4 miles every other day and body weight workout every other since then. I dropped all my medication. It's still dark some days but the hell of a lot better. Getting that audiobook was the best investment I've done.

Just finished reading chapter 5 of Can't Hurt Me. 38 years old. Taking the challenges and going hard. Time to callous my mind and create a better future for myself and my family.
I come from hell can totally relate. Life has burned me over so many times and keeps on but somebody's gotta play Rambo. When God has a plan for you Man can not rock you!
Amen
No proof that it's God's plan. Credit goes to the person who makes the move. And actually although individuals fail the Collective story of humankind is adapting, surviving and thriving
@@dmd7472 Who are you to say whether it's God's plan or not. Keep your hatred and doubt to yourself. Humble yourself. God's eyes are upon the good and the wicked!
Amen
@@dmd7472 The individual that knows God and seen first hand how God changes things does not need the proof you may be looking for. When you know, you know 🙏🏽

Hell Yeah brother keep it going until the wheels fall off! #StayHard
Very true.
very grateful to be a 19yr old female listening to this, blessed to have discovered Rich and Goggins at this age. thank you.
For me, the fundamental steps of change went like this:
step 1: shock. This step was me hearing the truth in the most blunt, painful way possible. For me, the person who did that was Wes Watson. He pulls absolutely no punches in his criticism of weakness, he makes you feel sick over your weakness, even more than Goggins.
Step 2: Shape. I had to learn to take that self disgust and apply it constructively. This is where Goggins’ teaching excels. To assess my pain, gather it all, and focus it at my weakness. Flip a negative to a positive.
Step 3: Refinement. This step means sifting out the negative parts of becoming hardened from the positive parts, because make no mistake, there are negatives to becoming calloused, and the most experienced men curb these negatives. Things like true overwork, not spending enough time with loved ones, being so deep in bunker mentality that you can’t connect with regular people. This is where people like Jocko Willink come in. True professors of discipline, immersed in every facet of it from the beginning. They are experienced in strength, naturals if you will. I surround myself with the influences of people like them, to me the true prime example of this type of person is Jonny Kim, the end goal. A man who has the thickest callouses possible, yet still maintains a vulnerable connection to the humanity of others. As hard as possible, but also soft in the ways that count, if you understand my meaning. I’ve burned these men into my mind, they are what lies at the end of the path, the fully formed and realized distillation of strength, discipline, and therefor freedom. Hate to steal Jocko’s quote but it’s the truest thing he’s ever said and probably the most fundamental truth of life. I can’t think of any statement more true. It is a truth that has the power to turn a lost drug addict like I was into an inhuman machine, built to fulfill promises, provide security and be a pillar for their loved ones to lean on.
Step 4: Go further, if that’s possible. I’m certainly going to try and find out.
This is so spectacular and so real that you can actually feel it. This man is a man’s man and a woman’s hero! Children have a leader in David💜🙏🏾

"I am on my own time line" - I needed to hear this SO BAD!
Do you still have bad habits or any negative behaviors? Do you feel stagnant or stuck on where you at in your life? Do you really wanna transform and enhance your life like he did? What are your hinders/obstacles? In what part of your life are you struggling?
Hey Rich you are a big inspiration. I want to share a shift I have made in my life as it may be valuable to those who are stuck in a position where I used to be. Several years ago I had social anxiety to the point where it severely crippled my life. I had this wish to be confident, outgoing and charismatic yet something was holding me back from being that. I felt like hiding from life which really bothered me because deep down I knew I could do better. After digging deep I realized several things about my situations. Firstly, I was overthinking and overanalysing situations and thus did not take action. Secondly, I tried to get everything right and the perfectionism left me paralysed. Lastly, I avoided failure and making mistakes. As you can imagine living like that is not much fun. So here is what I did to overcome it. Every day, and when I mean every day, I mean EVERY SINGLE DAY, without exception I have done/ am doing three things outside my comfort zone. At the end of the day I write about what went well and what I learned. The growth I have made and the experiences I have had are so mind-blowing that my past self would not have believed it even when you told him. Several years ago I struggled to ask a girl for the time and now I am blindfolding my date with my scarf as we are walking through the forest and passionately kissing her. My mission is to help those guys who want to improve their self confidence and make a permanent shift in their lives. It is possible and requires a willingness to take action and consistency.
With Goggins Mindset you can achieve anything you want in this life, get after it guys

Hate running so much, next month I’m doing my first marathon
status: badass
YESSSS
How did it go? 💪
@@kristianthaulow hey man, it didn't go really smoothly. After 25km my legs where starting to hurt and felt really stiff, It was really hot and dry that day and I didn't have enough water with me. After 30km I wanted to quit so bad and I walked and sat down for a moment and thought about quitting and was starting to talk myself into that it was okay to quit at 30 km, but there was that other quiet voice telling me to keep going. I finished at 5hrs, I dind't compete in a race and didn't let anyone know from friends to family I was running a marathon that day. Happy I didn't stop and kept going to the end, but my goal for my second marathon in a few months is to run it under 4hrs!
@@karelderey7774 Wow! that is so fantastic! You inspire me to not quit....
Loved the book, read it in less than a day. I was still reading it at 4am, trying to decide whether to finish the book or just put the running shoes on and head out! Amazing story. Great interview too. No more excuses - getting a head start on the new year! Let's go!
How's everything going for ya there mate? An update would be cool
Same! Took me 6 hours to read I only stopped for eating
I have never heard a human with better values then Goggins, that he still after all he has done wake up each day and goes back to the unpleasent side of life, to do his best with his life!! Walk his talk liturally. Listening to this has been a huge eyeopener, Goggins has a mission, and he has fucking done mission impossible..again, and again!!! STAY HARD
I've known about David for a while but this my first time hearing Rich. He's done a flawless job with this interview
I got goosebumps listening to you David, how you felt compelled to be vulnerable and share your story to help others that is powerful
You are such an inspiration to me I am downloading your audiobook now! Can’t wait! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I’m a 54 year old ordinary - past it - done it woman - not fit - not fat - not unsuccessful - just ordinary and felt Goggins was talking straight at me ! proving his words can reach anybody- in just a few days listening to his STUFF (tough/be hard) he’s already driven me to be driven to change…. I hated cold I MEAN HATED!!!! I now rock those CCCCCOLD SHOWERS - BRING IT ON mother fucker!!!!!!! NO NO NO I’m not spent soft and dried up at 54 !!!! - Thank you Goggins !!! from an ordinary woman who’s now driven to be extraordinary xxx ROGER THAT !!!!ps this interview is the dogs … !!! Reading Can’t Hurt Me - Helping me find Peace in meeting those past demons carried with me too long x
Love what you wrote... I'm 40 have been driven in life from time to time... Accomplished a lot, given where I was coming from. But 1 year ago I thought I was done...
I'm not. I'm back to that feeling that I need to accomplish something.
Time to go the races. Merry Christmas.
Gary V got me 'thinking', Tony Robbins got me 'doing'.....Goggins got me 'doing' far beyond my previous limits. These 3 men have changed the course of my life. Thanks gentlemen!!! Can't wait to pay it forward.
Gary V is just porn for entrepreneurs ;) I don't really know how to categorize Robbins to be honest, but what we can say for sure is that Goggins is the real deal, without all the money-grabbing bling self-promotion BS, love him xxx!
@@Maido24 Gary V is a good dude with a good message.
Love it! As a Personal Trainer/Nutritionist, as new clients come aboard, I include this book in audio. If they don't agree with the principles, I cant help them.
@Windjack Health & Fitness. Just remember it depends on what their goals are as well. Not everyone wants what you want. There are many rivers that go down the mountain to the same ocean. The ocean may be the goal, but most people travel their own path. Keep being a great guide.
That’s not a good way to do business
Windjack Health & Fitness you don’t have to kill yourselves like Goggins. The point is, if you don’t face yourself, you’ll get nowhere. Good for you to share with your clients. F the naysayers
I am so impressed with what David achieved with his "owning" his own shit. When you are comfortable with who you are, then others' criticism washes off you like the neighbour's dog barking. If you hear the dog barking you do not take it personally and run to a shrink to help heal you. Or run to court to sue someone for saying shit. That is self confidence on steriods. I am writing a book to help fellow South Africans achieve a better lifestyle and have included this link in the book to showcase just what is possible if you adopt the "Goggins" mentality. Thanks mate.
Among other statements David said, the one around 1:59:00 through 2:00:35 I found the most profound for me. I ordered the book already and will probably get the audiobook, too. Incredible interview; thanks, Rich.
vegan_fever audiobook is great
Great interview. I get the sense in the presence of David Goggins you can’t bullshit he has hawk eyes that can see you at your core no chose but to be real authentic. He has a very intense presence.
this is true
Those eyes are like X-ray vision, he sees because he has seen it in himself
Anger is a spark. It's an inspiration to attack whatever is making you angry. It doesn't sustain you through the journey. For that, you have to find something deeper.
When he speaks it seems like lion's roaring to me.
He is just🔥 and his eyes are saying everything about him.
Where has David Goggins been my whole life?? No matter, he's here now!!
more like where've you been that you haven't heard of him before :)
@@hel2727 no kidding!
Amazing that he said “Look into his eyes.” - I look into Goggins’ eyes, and I see clarity. I see honesty. I see authenticity. And I see eyes unburdened by the regret of what might have been.
Yess, that's right. I did some dumb stuff, but that stayed in past. But things i did not done and i had oportunity, that hurts. We need to be able to lern from that and take some motivation from it not to repeat mistakes
I see someone who is running away. It feels to me like he has beaten himself into submission just like his father did. God bless him. He is trying his best but he is not my role model.
@@daysjours you have it wrong. This man is running TO adversity and the things most people run very quickly away from...
Me typing my paper while listening to the podcast: ¨Hell yeah lets go!!!!¨. David Goggins at 53:55: ¨A lot of times people need to have a tv in front on them, watch somebody, listen to a podcast or listen to great music to find energy¨. Me: ¨Oh...¨
Seems like people are using “goggins” to lose weight, i listen to him to keep my anxiety/depression at bay.
People get all sorts of motivation from him. He’s a legend and needs a movie.
Yup. His words keep my brain in check.
Man... for real, i listen to him to keep myself from melting down with depression 😔💔
Those two aren't necessarily exclusive now are they...?

I'm so happy for you, Alexa. If you're ever in the market for a doctor that will address your illnesses in a natural way, please look up Doctor Alan Goldhamer. The man's advice saved me, 100%. I'm 36 and I feel better than I did at 18. The ailments and surgery I was told I needed by 25? Gone. I want this for everyone. Take care, Alexa.

Man, at the end of the book I cried, real talk!
so am I
I’ve been telling everyone I know to start on his book to shift there minds. It’s life changing! I’ve been making my own workouts and getting excited to torture myself everyday. As many push-ups in 2 minutes, 10 minutes. Running for 20 minutes without stopping... I’m not a runner so that’s crazy to me! His mindset has pushed me, and it’s unbelievable, we’re all capable of so much more
