I’m 39 and I ran 20 miles on Jan 1st listening to Goggins. I smoked a pack a day and drank myself to sleep every night 6 months ago. Quit everything. Started running in October. Once you change your mindset it really changes how you see your possibilities. Like I just don’t care now I’m doing it. Nothing bothers me.

Total devastation in my life. Every day is painful and I can't let up for a moment. What a gift!

Goggins saved my life, when I first heard a youtube vid with him I weighed 420bs at 6 foot and 42yrs old !! 7 months later id lost 170 of those !! and turned the rest into muscle. Still running weekly , wont ever stop, but even more importantly than motivating me to change my body he helped me fix my head !!! I own my past now and no one can hurt me ever again with what I WAS, I just stand there now as what I AM Today , and that matters more.

@@Ericrawnsley 5 pounds a week for 28 weeks on a person losing less than 1% of their bodyweight a week isn't that crazy unhealthy. If it were a 200 pound man losing 3 pounds every week for weeks....yeah I'm going to have to agree with you there but an very obese person losing weight over the course of half a year, that's far easier and less damaging because of all the stored bodyfat. I agree about extending it to double that time to be healthier

David Goggins is motivating not because he was a Navy Seal, ultra athlete, pull-up world record holder, etc. He is motivating because he did not let his circumstances of verbal and physical abuse control him and be a victim. When people say he is crazy or a masichist they do not understand the power that abuse has over a person. So when you hear Goggins speak you are listening to a man that is no longer a victim and is living life in freedom. #stayhard

Goggins is motivating because he tells the truth. Comfort is the enemy of growth and the secret to getting to be the real you is exercising the mind and body and there is nothing at all easy about it. Life is suffering and through the struggle we will find the true worth of who we were meant to be.

I hate running. But once I began to enjoy the pain of running, I started to crave it. Eventually my mind started to clear and while I'm running, I'm at my most peaceful. My thoughts are coherent and logical. They are productive. It's the only solace I get before I go to work and deal with chaos day in and day out. When my legs and abs are sore while at rest, I know I did something great. When I leave my house to run and it's dark, and then when I get back to my house and the sun is just coming up, I know I've earned that sunrise and now I can actually start the rest of the day. I still hate running but I like who I am while I'm running.

I am a shitty runner but I can walk pretty good so I downloaded the audiobook and decided I’d walk the distance of a Marathon in 35+ degree weather in AUS and after approx 9 hours I did all while listening to Goggins. I’d never walked more then 5klm and I did 42klm with no training.
It really is the mind that controls the body and I tested it on this walk and I won.
I’m now training for a Charity event in 2019 to walk/run 24 hours non stop to see how far you can go. I want 100+ kilometres. Thanks Goggins you really have changed my mentality on what’s possible

The best Goggins conversation I've heard yet! So nice to see the personal development.
    * Get clear about who you are to find peace.
    * There’s no clarity when there’s noise. You gotta stop and reflect.
    * Stay in constant pursuit of your 100%.
    * “I have to be very present in everything I do. If I put my 100% into what’s in front of me I will destroy it."
    * People have to be willing to break themselves down and stop hiding.
    * "Once I found out who I really was, that’s when I started growing."
    * “It’s all about mindset. You have to change the dialogue within your head.”

    • @rogerc23
      @rogerc23 5 років тому +15

@Howie Nordstrom, it’s quite interesting to see someone’s synopsis of Goggins. What you took out of it are different parts to me, but very good none the less. That goes to Goggins strength. He makes you think of finding the real you and the greatness you were destined to achieve and that is what he does for me too but I receive it through other parts of his message.
*Life is not fair, being abused is really the breeding ground for being stronger, not weaker.
*Comfort is the enemy of growth. Happiness does not always deliver results, but discomfort and removing the governors of our mind, that cause us to choose comfort and happiness, need to be removed to achieve greatness.
      *Don’t float at 40%.
*Be accountable and face the truth of your failures. Accountability mirror. Take down every one of those failures one by one.
*Own the morning. The man who lands the first punch wins, mostly.
Thanks, it was cool reading your comment

I'm 36 and in the best shape of my life due to diet change and yoga! It's not "just yoga", Suzy and Joanna. ;) It's hard, transformational work. It's the martial art you perform against the Self. I avoided surgery and healed my spine with diet and Ashtanga yoga alone; it's a heavy duty healing modality. Even if you manage to get on your mat for 5 minutes a day; it counts, and I've made some huge strides physically simply devoting 5 minutes to a pose in my practice. Don't underestimate yourself; you deserve credit. You're taking steps to change and improve your own life. We exist in a world where most of us have been trained to be apathetic, externalize our power and happiness, and expect instant gratification. Taking the necessary steps to combat that is a big deal. Every time you step on that mat, do what David does and see yourself at the end of your journey; allow that the image to propel you forward! Keep going!!

This CD is very calming ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxzpa8CIfZcihW4Z0F_ja0QF3W9KIatrsq the first meditation focuses on breathing, the second guides you through the Buddhist metta bhavana--loving kindness to all, and the third is a meditation to be used when walking. him is originally from Scotland, so there is a little accent to his voice, but it is very soothing and not at all distracting. If you are a beginner to meditation, this CD will walk you through all the steps of relaxing and breathing as well as sending out the positive thoughts of love and kindness that will be returned to you. We have several CD's, but this one is a favorite that we choose most often.

Can’t hurt me is the most meaningful book I’ve ever read. I’m on my 5th read through in 3 years each time I take my time and try my best to get something new out of it. The last 3 years I’ve ran a half marathon went skydiving climbed pikes peak and have quit all substance abuse however I dove head first right back into a life of drugs and fornication and laziness and have picked myself back up out of it once again and am back where I was mentally 3 years ago because of David. Life comes at you, limit your variables.

I've started training for a marathon, and im on my 3rd week of training, it is in 15 weeks, and I've decided to make amends with some of the things from my past that I never properly resolved. I was broken down as a child as well, in my case it was my mother that would perform the mental warfare and the beating, the games, destroying my father and the gaslighting. I had to protect myself, and the only way I could do that was to grow mentally. And I started that process at 8 years old.

I read both books of DG and have a decent background of -let´s say- psychological knowledge. I work in the field of giving advice to patients (as a general practitioner) when it comes to questions like what can I do to change my hypertension, my obesity, my etc.problems. Many conversations are soaked with „Yes, you are right, but….“ answers. Almost every time I mention words like „discipline“ or „self responsibility“ I see a mental curtain closing down and patients quit listening carefully. But: there are a few who seem to understand - deep inside of them- and start changing. And that´s the biggest reward I can get as a medical doctor. Conversations - and books - like this keep me going like this. Thanks for these inspirational hours.

His point is two fold. When you’ve had the happiness beat out of you, mentally, emotionally and physically at a young or developmental age, it’s extremely hard to wire your brain later for happiness. Secondly, It isn’t necessarily a bad thing as happiness is a worthless desired state for some people. You can give a kid candy and ice cream everyday and they will be happy. And die of cancer and obesity at 40. You can be a bumbling idiot happy as all heck and that’s fine but is it the energy for growth? No. Discomfort is the energy for growth.

For me, the fundamental steps of change went like this:
step 1: shock. This step was me hearing the truth in the most blunt, painful way possible. For me, the person who did that was Wes Watson. He pulls absolutely no punches in his criticism of weakness, he makes you feel sick over your weakness, even more than Goggins.
Step 2: Shape. I had to learn to take that self disgust and apply it constructively. This is where Goggins’ teaching excels. To assess my pain, gather it all, and focus it at my weakness. Flip a negative to a positive.
Step 3: Refinement. This step means sifting out the negative parts of becoming hardened from the positive parts, because make no mistake, there are negatives to becoming calloused, and the most experienced men curb these negatives. Things like true overwork, not spending enough time with loved ones, being so deep in bunker mentality that you can’t connect with regular people. This is where people like Jocko Willink come in. True professors of discipline, immersed in every facet of it from the beginning. They are experienced in strength, naturals if you will. I surround myself with the influences of people like them, to me the true prime example of this type of person is Jonny Kim, the end goal. A man who has the thickest callouses possible, yet still maintains a vulnerable connection to the humanity of others. As hard as possible, but also soft in the ways that count, if you understand my meaning. I’ve burned these men into my mind, they are what lies at the end of the path, the fully formed and realized distillation of strength, discipline, and therefor freedom. Hate to steal Jocko’s quote but it’s the truest thing he’s ever said and probably the most fundamental truth of life. I can’t think of any statement more true. It is a truth that has the power to turn a lost drug addict like I was into an inhuman machine, built to fulfill promises, provide security and be a pillar for their loved ones to lean on.
Step 4: Go further, if that’s possible. I’m certainly going to try and find out.

Several years ago I had social anxiety to the point where it severely crippled my life. I had this wish to be confident, outgoing and charismatic yet something was holding me back from being that. I felt like hiding from life which really bothered me because deep down I knew I could do better. After digging deep I realized several things about my situations. Firstly, I was overthinking and overanalysing situations and thus did not take action. Secondly, I tried to get everything right and the perfectionism left me paralysed. Lastly, I avoided failure and making mistakes. As you can imagine living like that is not much fun. So here is what I did to overcome it. Every day, and when I mean every day, I mean EVERY SINGLE DAY, without exception I have done/ am doing three things outside my comfort zone. At the end of the day I write about what went well and what I learned. The growth I have made and the experiences I have had are so mind-blowing that my past self would not have believed it even when you told him. Several years ago I struggled to ask a girl for the time and now I am blindfolding my date with my scarf as we are walking through the forest and passionately kissing her. My mission is to help those guys who want to improve their self confidence and make a permanent shift in their lives. It is possible and requires a willingness to take action and consistency.

After 30km I wanted to quit so bad and I walked and sat down for a moment and thought about quitting and was starting to talk myself into that it was okay to quit at 30 km, but there was that other quiet voice telling me to keep going. I finished at 5hrs, I dind't compete in a race and didn't let anyone know from friends to family I was running a marathon that day. I am so impressed with what David achieved with his "owning" his own shit. When you are comfortable with who you are, then others' criticism washes off you like the neighbour's dog barking. If you hear the dog barking you do not take it personally and run to a shrink to help heal you. Or run to court to sue someone for saying shit. That is self confidence on steriods. I am writing a book to help fellow South Africans achieve a better lifestyle and have included this link in the book to showcase just what is possible if you adopt the "Goggins" mentality. Thanks mate.
