What I really love about Quixel is that instead of having a mess of documentation that isn't descriptive and has no examples, they like to make videos that are up to date and that show the process entirely right in front of you. I wish other companies did that too.
Even tho videos are a nice and quick way to get a foot in the door they are just that... foot in the door. When im looking for a specific function, key-shortcut, troubleshooting problem I do want text that I can just ctrl+f and find it in seconds. Personally, I remember the days where when I was looking for a solution I was digging through articles, blog posts or redit threads but now rarely when ppl posts those things anywhere but YT so I'm stucked watching four 15 min videos looking for a solution hoping that I'm not wasting my time. Both mediums have their strengths and they should be used accordingly. I dont want 200+ playlist of all modifiers and nodes in software I want documentation and one 30 min overview that will show me what's possible. That would be a golden standard but unfortunately it's costly so not that popular.
Yeah, it's good, but I do kind of prefer text tutorials... I can read them as fast as I like, and not be forced to spend 20 minutes watching a video (since I could have read the same information under 1-5 minutes)...
@@mikeluna2026 I used to prefer that, but the big problem I've had with that is that they forget to update something in it and so it no longer works without you knowing. A video at least shows a version and everything working and you can pick the newest by date, thankfully. Unreal Engine for example has a lot of documentation for things that no longer work and you have no idea how to make them work or what version they used to work in

Came here after Substance latest update like a refugee... Saw this, found out it's bloody FREE. Guys, Gimme some nodal based procedural texture generation tool and I'll pay for it.
Please add a baker! The ability to bake curvature, etc, is one of the only reasons I still like Substance painter (and the "use low Poly as high poly" setting, AND the performance when opening an fbx with a lot of models...). I've been making modular kits for my projects and I usually export one fbx with a category (like walls, stone gates, etc). I tried using that method on Mixer but it often slows down to a crawl...
@@lostcrusader8053 Which is where I was going to purchase it from. I mean it's still a tool that would be *nice to have* because Mixer is still lacking in some regards, but for the moment it's all I will need.
I definitely won’t upgrade SP next year. There really is no point. (Coz I got marmoset as well- but probably won’t be long before baking is included in Mixer- though Marmoset is seriously good at that)
First marmoset toolbag 4 has a texturing solution, and now this. Adobe Painter has some real competition now! If you guys add some crazy baking solutions that are comparable to Marmoset toolbag... I do not care if you actually charge a small price! Congrats.
18:20 - I tried exporting a 3D object to the Library but it's not showing up in Local / Mixer in Bridge. It's showing 0 items. Any reason for that? @Quixel
Painter's UI is perfect what are you complaining about? I would say that Mixers UI is a bit too oversimplified for a PC UI, looks more like an IPad UI with a lot of unnecessary pop-up windows.
Excellent presentation. I would like to follow along. You mentioned something in the video about a link to this 3-D model. Could you tell me how I could go about getting that?
Hey, Mixer guru. If you're still around, can you make a video where you use a texture that needs to flow in different directions on a single mesh? I'm trying to use Mixer to texture a tree with some bark, but I need to use multiple box projections to get it flowing the right direction on all the branches, so I have a bunch of seams, and I don't know what to do to cover them up. Using a single box projection over the whole thing wouldn't have any seams, but it wouldn't rotate the texture in the right direction for all the branches.
For those of us that use Cinema4d, how do we export the material IDs? How do we get the baked maps to use in Mixer? Is the implementation of a 3D gizmo on the roadmap for things like applying a sticker for example? That for sure is essier than tweaking numbers or sliders until it is in the right position
When will add in paint mode to function fill polygon, mesh parts, UV island? symmetry paint? Its fundamental function for texture paint, its very need.
@@erikals No, theyr'e just talking about baking the stack info into images to keep performance- it has nothing to do with baking normal, curvature or occlusion maps.
Hi Josh, not sure if you are still with Quixel but I wanted to ask a question. I'm trying to suss out a paint program that will best fit my needs and what my brain can understand. Quixel mixer was brought up in a video. So I downloaded it and got things set up for my paint project (Eliezer for L'Homme, a 3D figure used in Poser). The thing I can't seem to figure out is how do I tell Quixel that I want to zoom in closer? When I use the mouse scroll wheel the figure just disappears the closer it gets to me so that's not good. Thanks so much!
I don't know, I tried mixer and it just don't let me paint on some faces xD And its clunky, textures look nice sometimes, but if there is many uv island, it does not look ok everytime.
when I export my model after texturing, it doesn't let me combine my mesh and it doesn't even texture the mesh when exported from bridge like the vid shown :/ so I just get my mesh in separate pieces. is there anyone willing to help?
Looks awesome, I wish Bridge was more stable. I still get maybe 2 FPS on a 2080 super, and it keeps corrupting UE4 materials (missing master materials or something).
i'm a big fan of transformers and tanks or in general planes or cars and i have also started projects with tank helicotpter ... one thing i didn't understand you often see that for example. Transformers consist of individual objects or wheels with details consist of 2 objects how is it then actually textured and rigged is it individually textured and then combined together?
