  • In this video, Josh Powers takes us back to Mixer's roots and retextures a surface from the Megascans library. Using an existing surface as a foundation for your texture is a fast and efficient way to fill out your scene.

    It's all super wonderful and all... but please , add proper tablet support for artists. It's so sad that the whole awseomness of Mixer is held back simply by the lack of the most basic funtionality.

      @@petertremblay3725 I sincerely hope that it is not a limitation they run into with Unity, which Mixer is based upon. Unity does not really work well with tablets and can be extremely stubborn as a core. I am suspicious because it's been a while now, we have 2020.1.5 and still, simply using my tablet with paint layers in mixes produces unusable behaviour and even brakes my tablets projection method. It would be incredibly sad if it would never happen. I still have hopes due to the aweseomness, determination and passion of the Quixel team, also now backed by Epic.

    Hello Quixel. Can you make tutorial, cause you haven't- to paint props from start to finish? I haven't see any tutorial, like texturing sci fi panels , or other props. All tutorials- about mixing textures, ground....
    From this view- substance Painter is more intuitive.....
    I want to see for example- how to texture sci-fi panel with: bolts, normals, other details......

    Very nice but will it not look VERY repetitive if you place it several times in a room? Would it not be more smart to make a simple/uniform texture and work with vertex painting and/or decals?

    • @remon563
      @remon563 3 роки тому

      the wallpaper would be better fitted as a texture as it is intended to tile. For the decals you can go either way, it really depends on the project but generally we would place decals seperately (although some games bake them in the texture to save memory).

    • @joshpowers475
      @joshpowers475 3 роки тому +3

      Yes, this was more of an example of techniques you can use to repurpose a texture, but if I were going to use this in a more traditional game environment, I would minimize unique details and use decals or vertex blending in engine. But I wanted to still show these options to grunge up a texture that was clean before. :)

    Thats all very good, but what i really need is the old - nDo normal map plug-in for Photoshop - You know, the one you released for free many years ago. Can you help me? I don't need a massive program suite, i need that one plugin to help me with a mod i'm making for Skyrim and I need to generate a few normal maps, not something i've done before but i believe your plugin can help. Yes, i am still using significantly older software as, quite frankly, the purchase or leasing prices for newer stuff is vastly out of my price range. So Mr Teddy Bergsman, who came from nothing and grew Quixel, can you help me please? Or anyone else help??? Thanks

      Wes McDermott is an absolutely great and kind guy and you can learn a ton from him. Just because he has a high voice does not make him annyoing or arrogant. I learned so much from Wes and am immensly thankful for all his videos. This knowledge certainly benefits you learning and using Quixel as well. It's not all just program specifics. No need to take sides. This is not a war. These are all amazing people developing amazing software for us artists and teaching us. And they are real people and do also have feelings, you know :) Imagine Wes reading something like this. It is not very empathic.
