Wow - I feel like this message was meant for me. Especially when you talked about engaging your will and creativity… These past two years, I’ve been really taking part in consumer culture and borderline hoarding products and content. This was something I really hadn’t examined that fact that this was starving MY OWN creativity… Such a well thought out talk and incredibly! Loved this… Thank you!

You speak straight to me! Being vulnerable to manipulation... loving myself... ignorance is bliss! And creativity fills the space better than anything else!

I am doing a makeup no buy and unsubscribing from as many company emails has really helped a lot. I am also doing a declutter and getting rid of very old products that I have had for up to 8 or 9 years. I found that I was really surprised at how old a lot of my items were, how long I had them, and how little I used them all. I loved what you said about cultivating your own hobbies! I got back into reading and would really like to make more art. Winter in Wisconsin is long and hard, though, and I am also trying to be kind to myself so if things don’t happen they done happen.

It really has helped me as well. Not only less temptation but also a time saver not having to organize all the promotional emails. Oh awesome decluttering is a good idea especially while working on a challenge like this. It is crazy how quickly time flies and we find ourselves with things we were excited to purchases but as time goes on we forget to use it. Either it’s not our style anymore or we have to many things so we only use a small amount to each instead of getting to use the full value. That’s awesome! Yes hobbies are the best they are really the most rewarding way to spend our time. Oh man the winters are very hard and it is very tempting to look for comforts. For me trying to work on cosiness with food, candles or warm drinks. Also such a good time to cuddle up on the couch with a good book. Wishing you all the best for 2022 and thank you so much for sharing :)

Great advice!! I now call my closet “the boutique” I have so many nice things that I bought but haven’t really enjoyed. I’m having fun shopping the closet(boutique) and putting together new outfit combinations. With me luck!! The allure of shopping is still there but I’m getting better. 😊

For me it also helps puting my finantial goal into perspective. For example, I really want to save money to have a two week vacation this year (I usually just go for a weekend or 5-6 days). I recently went shopping with my mom and I instantly fell in love with a sweater (clothing being my weak spot). I really wanted to buy it but than I thought that I would prefer to go on a 2 week vacation and take the clothes that I already have rather than getting new clothes and only be able to afford to go for a weekend or maximum a week. Also, a tip about giving yourself time/ taking picture of an item is spot on. I took a picture of the sweater and after a week I realized that I really didn't need it or even want it. Another awesome video with great tips :)

I've been binging lifestyle/personal development videos all day trying to find some form of motivation and your video just came along to put an end to that. I know in my heart that I can't sit around thinking about how to live life, I need to just live it and figure the rest out later-- you've helped me bring that idea front of mind, especially the create / do part of the video. we all owe it to ourselves to realize our own value! thank you for posting :-)

I am doing a no buy year for the first time this year. There were some necessary large purchases last year but I don’t expect to have a lot of big expenses come up this year and so it will be exciting to see how much I save!

Wow! All of your videos are fantastic, and this one is over the top the best! Love love love. Yes, please do more mind set videos. Also really really loved the video with shots of the farm and the persons. How idyllic looking and beautiful with authentic, simple living. Thus parallels what you speak in this video. How I would love to be there and working with the persons. Much gratitude.

Such great tips and I love how you broke them into these 3 themes. I totally agree with the ignorance is bliss one. I think one of the best things I did was completely purge my email of mailing lists and I unfollowed more than half of the Instagram accounts and facebook pages I followed to just restrict to following friends, and a few others like activists. Unsubscribing from all those marketing email did take me a few hours but it was so worth it, not just to not be accessible to these companies but I no longer feel stressed about opening my emails and seeing 5000 unread emails.

Really excellent advice! I've been no buy for about a month and I can really see now the areas and things I'm tempted to spend money on. I have really enjoyed using all of the things I already have to their fullest potential. It's amazing to see how mindless some of my shopping was previously (especially for convenience items like snacks and soda).

I don't have shopping center where I live so I go to one every month usually. Every time I make a list of 5 things or less that I really need to buy when I go to the shopping center. I try to not order much online this year. So I only have one shopping day a month when I can spend money on other things apart from groceries and bills. Clothing stores I sometimes go and try on and take pictures and think about it till I next go, but I usually never go buy that thing later. But this month I went to zara and got a thin coat for spring since I don't have a light coat I saw it in december when I went to the mall, this time it was on sale so I bought it half off. With beauty products if I take photos if I ever need to replace I may buy, but I usually stick with my trusty products that I have used and liked.

I sooo have fomo (fear of missing out). I was doing so well with my no spend January until the 21st. I noticed a few bits in the sale, but even though I had put them in my basket, the next day they had been sold already. When I noticed 2 days later they were back in stock and only had 1 left, I jumped on them. Thing is, I can spend more when I NEED things and don't have time to look for them. They will be used in the summer but... Ahhh, I was doing so well. 😪

The other day I watched a video by this Canadian hair stylist, who said that, unlike so many of her snob colleagues, she was very sympathetic to those who dye their hair at home because getting your hair dyed at a beauty salon can easily cost 200 Canadian dollars. That's 140 euros. I'm still trying to pick my jaw off the floor. In my country minimum wage is a bit over 700 euros. I didn't know it was possible to charge that much for a simple change in hair style. But then I've been taking care of my hair at home for a long time, and that's not going to change obviously.

Really good video. I feel like a no buy / low buy should probably go hand in hand with a no content / low content year. Constantly consuming content is like having a diet of candy floss. It tastes good in the moment but it's pure sugar and has no nutritional value. You just end up getting addicted and feeling really demotivated to do anything else.

    • @NeliaRose
      @NeliaRose  Рік тому +1

Thank you I hope it was helpful in someway. Yes I think this is so important to consider not just what we consume physically bring into our life but also the online content. It is so hard for me personally as I find I watch a lot of youtube and Netflix but definitely something I am trying to work on. Yes it really dose demotivate you and takes up all your time and will power to do things that come with real value and reward like creating something. Thank you for the great comment and I hope you are having a lovely beginning to the year :)

Tried to do now buy - low buy last year, wasn't successful. But this year I'm very determined. So far haven't bought a single thing. And ignoring everything that could trigger me, is the only way to succeed. I'm a shopaholic, so had to delete all the apps and other stuff.

@@raqueldasilva8702 That is awesome! Great that you taking advantage of both I really wish I was more organised to get myself into meal plans. I often find thats where I waste money because I buy the easy fast option for food rather than the more time intensive but ultimately cheaper and healthier way. I hope that being back to work you still able to stay with it because when we are tired we can loose our will power a bit to say no or go the extra mile. Ah yes motivation from other videos is so good if you find any please sure I love to watch how other people work with their challenges! :)

Great tips ! Do you have any tips for collectors? I collect a few different things but so much is limited edition or if I don’t get it once released, I most likely won’t be able to get it due to resellers and their ridiculous prices. I love my collections, I have many valuable items and I go through and declutter and organize but I still find myself struggling with trying not to get more for each collection. I do need to unfollow some companies and get off social media. I imagine that would help but I was just curious what your thoughts are on being a collector :). Thanks !
