My mom recorded the last 45 mins of "warriors of the wind" the original release of naussicaa of the valley of the wind when I was about 5. I watched the movie so many times I'm surprised the tape didn't snap. When I was 16 I saw it in a suncoast in the mall on vhs, I pleaded with my mom to get it and watch it "whole" for the first time. I loved it! When Disney started to do the dubs for Miyazaki films I was totally on board. Even though the first release hurt Miyazaki San, it captured me.
Actually, Miyazaki never intended Nausicaa to be a film. He initially approached Tokuma Shoten with two other films (a period piece, and an adaptation of another comic) but they turned both down. He made Nausicaa because they were publishers for Animage magazine and they had suggested he make a manga instead of a movie. It was only after it's success with the first two volumes that they wanted it to be made into a film, to which Miyazaki originally said no, since it wasn't finished/not his intention. But since they held the rights to it, they said they were gonna make it regardless so he came on board to make sure no one ruined his vision.
Still the best Miyazaki film ever made (IMO) and definitely one of the best animated movies of all time. Love Love LOVE Nausicaa.
TheMusicMan1012 Amen.
I agree great movie
Now Miyazaki is 78-years-old.
I dont get it's literally still his most powerful movie to me

Wow, John Lasseter really pulled through for Miyazaki because of his respect towards his fellow animator and friend.
To be honest if I was invited to do a marathon of one of my favorite filmmakers or animators I be like John I definitely would be very excited
damn Nausicaa is now a 32 year old movie, time flies
Now 36.
Almost 40 now
Man, I wish I had been watching TCM when they had this retrospective! Nausicaa is one of my favorite films, despite all of its flaws.
The film that’s got the best heroine that I look up to many reasons cause Nausicaa is awesome
Same problem like Akira. Manga was unfinished during the film production.
Nausicaä was not a ghibli movie then. Castle in the sky was the first movie they made as Ghibli.
Nausicaa is a great heroine fight me
The manga is really good, but the only reason Miyazaki wrote/drew it to get financial backing for the movie.
It was all his producer's idea.

What exactly did they butchered from Nausicaä?!
Topcraft would eventually become Ghibli, for one thing. And second, Nausicaa was eventually folded into international Ghibli release collections.
The Nausicaa manga is way better than the movie.
I never read the manga, but I might.
