Fucking aye... Miyazaki gets too much credit and undeserved praise. Takahata is way more talented and his movies are not generic and sappy blockbusters, but have heart and are genuine.
If I'm not mistaken.. Toonami (on Cartoon Network, owned by Turner Broadbasting like TCM) also aired Hayao Miyazaki's films in honor of him sometime in 2006-7... am I right or not? I think it was 2007 but I could be wrong.
I watched it again recently and it was quite good. But also it obviously had a lot to do with looking back at your childhood and going down a path you truly desire. And since I'm still young I didn't empathize with that story a whole lot but it was still a great ending. Even though the old lady was way out of line.
Release this shit in the US, dammit
It is now. There's even and English dub.
They should released it here
They did!
Isao Takahata, remember the name
Glad to see this finally got released on Blu-Ray and DVD.
RIP Isao Takahata.
This was the broadcast that made me realize just how fantastic anime was at the time and has since made me the person I am today.

I agree with you. My favourite ghibli movies are from takahata. I think his movies are much more powerful and emotional.
Gary Robinson my favourite film from Isao Takahata is Grave Of The Fireflies.
If I ever meet John I’ll ask him about Grave Of The Fireflies.

yeah they did, but not stuff like this
This film put me to sleep. Most exciting scene was the family cutting a pineapple.
It's alright. You can't appreciate a work of cinematic art like this. Go ahead and watch Transformers again.
