I love how Mark Hamill played one of the greatest heroes in film history, and can still play really good villains
My god. Patrick Stewart, Edward James Olmos, Uma Thurman, Alison Lohman, Shia LeBeouf, AND Mark Hamill? I don't think there will be a voice acting cast that loaded ever again.
Right!?
Prince of Egypt probably comes close.
Val Kilmer, Ralph Fiennes, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sandra Bullock, Jeff Goldblum, Danny Glover, Patrick Stewart, Helen Mirren, Steve Martin, and Martin Short
the boy and the heron is close
I really love Alison Lohman's voice. It fits Nausicaa's character so perfectly!
Then she was in drag me to hell
N K Me, too! I don’t care what anybody says about Alison Lohman as Nausicaä. She’s awesome! I just saw the 35th Anniversary 2019 re-release of it, English-dubbed and I gotta say, it was really awesome!
I do like it but the Japanese version is better, I’m not hating cause Alison does have a wonderful voice
I mean her voice is fine I guess, but it's not even comparable to the original to be honest. I just tried watching a couple of scenes in both languages and the way she speaks actually changes the tone in a lot of the scenes.
Nausicaa is such a great character! Hero-Figure!
damn, what a cast indeed
Except for the main character. Nausicaa is not a ditzy club chick.... I am SO angry at that casting director. They were SO CLOSE.
@@BlueMaxxW Yes it was obviously a bad pick.
Miyazaki's very first feature is timeless for portraying how the villains might not necessarily see themselves as the villains. Especially thanks to the vocal talents of Uma and Mark. 👍🏻
The entire cast apart from Lohman was excellent. Lohman's trash performance really dragged the production down. It makes it hard to share with other possible Ghibli fans. I'll show them the subtitleded version or "Warriors of the Wind" thank you.
@@BlueMaxxW Wtf dude? I think she did a good job at playing Nausicaä.
@@BlueMaxxW wt* dude,,, she's fit perfectly
Castle of Caglisosto was actually his first feature. Phenomenal debut and still probably my favorite of his.
For Uma Thurman’s one and only voice over role. She did pretty damn good.
aww when shia labeouf was still so innocent.
Nathan Wubs but now... Just do it!
werdgrghr yuiygfs But now... sells one ticket in UK.
He wrote a film that got a standing ovation at Sundance and has 100% on RT. Looks like comeback will be happening sooner than we thought.
DO IT. JUST DO IT. IT'LL MAKE YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE!
huge example of the less you know the better
In terms of writing (faithfulness to the original dialog), casting, and performance, Nausicaa is one of the perfectly dubbed Ghibli films.
Which are the ones who aren't?
I'd say Kiki's delivery service for changing Jiji's character completely, and Princess Mononoke for making Eboshi making less sympathetic (the sick guy clearly tells Ashitaka not to kill because Eboshi takes very good care of her people, which was made ambiguous in English). Also Castle in the Sky miscasts Pazu; the voice sounds too old. Whisper of the Heart is another one that changes the lines a bit too much for me. Shizuku declines Sugimura's love very clearly in English, but in Japanese, she is more confused, naive, and doesn't know what to say though she wants to say no.
Omagari Toshi so you'd suggest to watch these films in japanese with english subtitles? Or would it be a big mistake to watch them in english?
+starkingbiker English sub is not a literal translation either; in general, subtitles need to be much more shortened because you read slower than you hear (it happens in every language). The only authentic way is to see in the original dub, though I do understand that's a lot to ask.
+starkingbiker On a positive side, any film that is based on actual countries (e.g. Porco Rosso and the Wind Rises) have foreign accents, which do not exist in Japanese. Those get bonus points, in fact The Wind Rises's English dub may be better than the original.
Patrick Stewart's face while voicing Yupa really gets me for some reason. I don't know why. It makes me a little emotional in a way that's hard to describe. And oh my god, I keep forgetting tiny Shia LeBouf was in this...
Shia did an extremely great job. Usually English dubs are less enthusiastic than the original voices. But Shia went just right with the rage and sadness. But the same can be said about the rest of the cast. :)
How tf did he do this when it released 1 year before he was born I've been stuck in this rabbit hole
@@dankmoon949 Wow what a throwback to a comment 10 years ago lol! But the Disney dub (the one being done in this video) wasn't made until 2005. That should ease your anxiety haha
@@Jakomelo thank you so much I couldn't find any info on it and honestly I was worried u might not be around glad to see you're doing well in these times
They all did. Lasseter put together a REALLY great cast for this dub. Nobody didn't do a great job. Plus, it's just a great story, and a masterwork of animation. They don't make them like this anymore, and it's a real shame. I'll always consider myself quite blessed to have grown up in the 80s and 90s when culture (music, film, theater, television) was at its peak. Not in the gutter like it is today.
I'm not in this little feature but I played King Jihl, had I been in this video I would have said what an honor it was and it is quite challenging, you see I'm just as interesting as Alison Lohman!!
Interesting. Thank you, I based that voice a bit on Gregory Peck and Charlton Heston. I thought to myself , if Howl wanted to sound like a King, that would be the kind of voice he might make up, a touch arrogant and very confident.
Good to know that Eamonn, it's a wonderful film. I'm so proud to have gotten to work on it.
Who played Obuba? The old wise blind woman
Pedro, the old blind woman was played by the same woman as Principle Skinner's mother from The Simpsons.
Mark Silverman omg
I couldn't believe how young Shia was before he was in Transformers!
Owen Kyte yes, he was younger before he was transformers.
rainbowsalads I know that before you said it.
I couldn't believe how sane Shia was before the hebes have been divided!
He used to be on Even Stevens last time I recall.
Even before Surfs Up
Alison Lohman is gorgeous.
Patrick Stewarts voice is incredible.
Alison Lohman's voice as Nausicaa is really gorgeous!
Being distributed by Disney has helped this film so much. How else could they afford talent like this.
this is the singles best english dub i have ever seen, Alison Lohman´s voice is perfect casting for Nausicaa
Best movie EVER!
Just in case any of the cast members randomly look this up on UA-cam for the memories of it and see this comment, I wanna say that every voice-actor did their roles perfectly. They did their roles so well that this almost instantly became my and my BFF's favorite movie.
That's all I want to say. :)
I love Alison Lohman ♥ My favourite movie is White Oleander, and I was so happy to know that she also voiced one of my favourite Miyazaki characters! :D
Everyone did a beautiful job. Words can not explain the gift given to the viewers by these wonderful people who brought this film to life thank you
R.I.P. Tony Jay and Mako these actors are in heaven Judge Frollo aku uncle iroh are very special about remembering them
The cast in this movie is simply amazing.
Alison's voice is incredible as Nausicaa, and a few moments in her performance give me actual chills. Hell, the entire voice cast is stellar. I love both the original Japanese and the English cast so much, which is rare.
Thank you to American voice actors! And wonderful ! I was surprised at the dubbing of English in anime from Japan (⌒-⌒). Even so, I was surprised that there was P. Stewart with that Star Trek captain Picard (⌒-⌒)
wow yupa voice is amazing
A real master!
Well of course! That is no less than Sir Patrick Stewart. ... i just realized I'm commenting on a 6 years old post. Sorry. Meh. Typed it out and it's not too embarrassing , might as well hit send.
It's sooooo weird to finally put a face to all the voices to my favorite character
Hmmm, well to me, in English Nausicaa's voice is all angelic, beautiful, and lovely, so Alison Lohman did a good job.
All the actors who talked about the way none of their characters see themselves as the villain bring up one of the best points about this movie: the realism of the characters. It feels to me like all or most of Miyazaki's stories have believable characters with motivations and goals that contend with each other, which is what really drives the conflict. I wish more storytellers could get into the heads of all their characters and try to empathize with them, so that they can tell stories that are more believable and compelling. I just watched this movie so it's fresh in my mind. Anyway, these voice talents are so so good! I wish modern cartoons/anime could benefit from the same!
Mark Hamill: “To be part of Miyazaki’s first feature-“
Lupin III: “Am I a joke to you?”
I remember watching this film, at least 6 years ago on the sbs, and i still remember Kurotowa. He's great in original and English-dubbed version.
It’s amazing they we’re able to get all these great actors to do this. I never even knew this existed until I saw this.
Emily Bauer (Dawn from Pokemon), Mark Hamill (Joker from Batman), Uma Thurman (Poison Ivy from Batman and Robin), and Shia LaBeouf (Stanley from Holes) all in one movie?
EPIC AS HELL!!!!!!!
You forgot Patrick Stewart (Professor Charles Xavier from X-Men)
And you have Jodi Benson (Ariel from The Little Mermaid).
This is the first time I've actually set eyes on Allison Lohman. She did such a fantastic job, IMO. You could tell it just came easy to her too. I'm surprised I didn't see her name involved with more projects over time...
Man, Chris Sarandon has been in three films that I really love: this, princess bride, and dog day afternoon
Barney Os. I just watched this and was blown away when I heard Prince Humperdinck
I love this doco and all Ghibli films ..
... I find it really ironic and funny that Chris Sarandon, who brilliantly plays the voice of Kutotowa. has the same one sided turned up mouth as his character, and not even he notices the irony (6:03) LOL
+NightAl AMV so true XD
Chris Sarandon was excellent in this. Very well cast and very well performed.
I LOVED this character! Hell, I love Chris Sarandon‘s voice period! Ever since I heard him as Jack Skellington, I just love listening to him talk. I was wished he done more voice work and that his character had a bigger role
by far my favorite miyazaka movie in no small part thanks to these perfectly cast voice actors especially alison lohman and capt picard.
Mark Hamill is one of the great voice over artists
What a cast. Next to Mononoke Hime of course this has to be the a great English Cast for a Ghibli film. Patrick Stewart, Uma Thurman, Mark Hamill, the late Tony Jay, Chris Sarandon, Edward James Olmos. Talk about talent there.
Oh my...what a cast!
Oh my god, I LOVE this film, and I especially love Allison Lohman. :D
I know that there IS a featurette for CASTLE IN THE SKY on the DVD release. Interestingly, Mark Hamill also plays a character in this movie... and arguably, gives the best performance in the whole movie. Also featured are James van der Beek as Pazu (who is actually quite good despite sounding older than his character), Cloris Leachman as Dola (the other 2nd awesome performance), and Mandy Patinkin as pirate Louis. Sadly, Anna Paquin as Sheeta doesn't appear (I wonder why?).
Its Luke Skywalker😍
that's not luke skywalker, it's patrick stewart :)
@@roifor7809 He's referring to the actor who played the main villain
Or Jesus. Or Perseus. Or Harry Potter. Or Optimus Prime, yadda yadda yadda..... Not a new idea. It was old before you were born.
they all did a fantastic job, particularly alison lohman who was superb. the english dubbing director even did it with a light-hearted nod toward the 'traditional' dubbing of japanese anime into english, which i loved.
These are all great, highly skilled actors and it's cool to watch this, but I am not sure I would watch a dubbed version of Nausicaa if subtitled was an option. My favourite film of all time.
I can't believe we had Captain Picard, Admiral Adama, Luke Skywalker , Megatron, Johnny Bravo, and Beatrix Kiddo all in one movie AND I NEVER EVEN KNEW UNTIL NOW.
Don't forget Johnny Test and Principle Skinner's mother.
I was at the library and this movie caught my eye....gotta say i was definitely not disappointed.
All those awesome actors and they even got Tony Jay for the narration,
Star Wars The Force Awakens was based on this movie.
Two co-stars are cool Patrick Stewart and Mark Hamill Star Trek: The Next Generation vs Star Wars saga.
And years later both of them wound up being in a commercial together.
Whether they have experience doing it or not, the issue really is... how good are they at it? I personally think they nailed it pretty well. Lohman basically did nothing else in her entire career, and did a great voice for Nausicaa IMO. Stewart just has a great, powerful voice period, perfect for the stage. And Sarandon is just awesome... he pulled out his Prince Humperdink/Princess Bride persona for this one I think. Shia's work was quality too IMO. Semantics aside, a job well done.
John Smith it is a shame Loham didn't do much after, but even so, we'll all remember her as the Princess of the Wind
@@Rinesmyth She did Drag me to Hell, but went into semi retirement right after that. Shame really.
I swear mark Hamil is fucking everwhere
Finally Nausicaä is the best Disney Princess; she inspired all the Disney Renaissance Princess.
She's honestly one of the best female protagonists in all of fiction. I have yet to see someone as selfless and noble as her.
what a great movie!
すばらしいworksありがとうございます。.・*''☆
Allison Lohmann is so amazing in this role
Captain Picard!!
I'm happy because I like both Star Trek and Nausicaa.
It's funny because Picard lost his original heart to Nausicaans.
all I can say is, what an amazing voice cast
i just saw this movie for the first time ,i love it and alison voice is so beautiful perfect
Mark Hamill voices both the Joker and a character in a Hayao Miyazaki classic?? This man is just a true legend. 😩
And Ozai from Avatar the Last Airbender
@@aniarablechannel4668 Really?? Holy snap that's awesome! 😆
And he is what he is
just discovered this movie and it was amazing.
I met Chris Sarandon at a con and he is a super awesome and nice guy, is great as either a hero or villain when acting
I generally despise dubbing and I cannot put in words how much I love this film, I literally lost count how many tine I watched it (well over 20, maybe 30), but seeing a cast that is in the level of this masterpiece makes me maybe try this version at least once. If I not mistaken is a redo of the horrible first release that cut so badly the original piece the guys at Ghibli sent a katana engraved "NO CUTS" as a response to Disney when they asked to cut a next Ghibli they were releasing...
*whistles* Alison Lohman's very pretty :O
this was such a good audio cast!
PRINCE HUMPERDINCK!! I knew I recognized Chris Sarandon from somewhere!!!
LOVE SHIA LEBEOUF WITH ALL MY HEART AND ALWAYS WILL
The guy who does the voice of the mayor of pedgite is the same guy who did the voice of muska in castle in sky! Ha! Awesomeness.
Yea that's Luke Skywalker
Now I know why Kurotowa looks like Prince Humperdink.
Great movie and great actors on both sides. Gonna show it to my kids some day
Currently rewatching for the 4th time! An absolutely beautiful movie 🤍
The visuals in this movie are so stunning 😍😍😍
No doubt that’s why I loved the movie so much as the story. Waah, what a cast. 😍
This is amazing!
now these are the kinds of actors that you put in!
I was born in 1994 and grew up watching this stuff. loved it now kids watch nothing but crap all day they don't read books and its a damn shame.
I love this movie. I think Alison Lohman did an amazing job, Patrick Stewart was very cool, Uma Thurman was an amazing grey character, and mark Hamill is just really good.
Hollywood or not, they did a fantastic job IMO, and you'd come to find your opinion a pretty lonely stance if you asked around. This dub is in fact very well respected by the Anime community as a whole and by English speaking, native Japanese from the mother country. All of my Japanese friends prefer this version over the original Japanese one.
Phil Hartman's job as Gigi in Kiki's Delivery Service is also very well regarded.
I think so its such a great animation!
This voice cast is just amazing.
Very Thanks.🗾🌋
From the perspective of Japanese fans,
``Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind'' is an early work by Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki.
I'm very happy that so many famous actors in Hollywood showed such respect and dubbed the English version.

she really is! A true legend in voice work!
Alison Lohman
Damn when I watched this movie I never realized the awesome voices in it! I feel so slow.
I cry a lot when I see any clip because this was my favorite movie when I was little, I don’t remember why, but I can’t watch it anymore since I used to watch it at my dads.
That might be one of biggest understatements I have ever read.
amazing movie amazing cast
The film and the English dub cast were well deserved for each other.
This is so awesome.
ah i love this movie!!!
Loves It!!!
Doesn't do the Graphic Novel a bit of Justice
but they did as good a job as they could
and i'm sure this was a very special Project in all of their Lives.
you make a good point.
-good to find a fellow lover of Miyazaki's original self-created Manga's.
-I would love to find more of his original manga works to read
whoa, cool never heard of those.
i'll have to see if I can find them translated into English in my local comics store.
thanks! :)
hmmm...curious.
can u send me a link?【・_・?】
Mitzy OnHerLaptop I know you're prolly pretty busy surfing the inter-webber-net on your Laptop and all that, Mitzy, but if its not too much to ask, and you get a spare chance, if you'd send a Link my way, i'd be totally okay with that.(づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ ♥

I like each english voices.
Gorgeous!!
Amazing!
Awesome to realize Commander Adama and Captain Picard had some scenes together
Liked this behind the dubbed voices footage. Especially the EJO part.
Woow this made my day!
Well, now that is extremely interesting! I never made that connection :D Thank you :)
its all about patrick stewart, freaking awesome voice, freaking amazing picard
