The Ram problem you talked about was spot on!
Liked the video a lot, you put in together nicely. I wish more people have done these level of vids.
I have just gathered a list to a Ryzen build and was trying to decide between this board and the Asrock B350m Pro4. Welp, the choice is obvious now for me.
I heard you that the memory issue can be fixed, but still, I'd like the memory going stable beside a Ryzen CPU.
Cheers!
Nice insight! thanks :) This is my target motherboard but now I doubted to buy it.
I'm planning to get his board with hyperx fury 8gb ddr4 2400. I'm not into overclocking. So will it be fine with the ram? Also I'll add MSI gtx 1050 ti oc, is that okay??
How did you flash the bios update? I'm having a similar problem with memory
Do you think Trident Z 3200MHz will work fine on this mother board?
how did you update the bios when you where not able to post ?
When you say that you had to "manually instant flash" the mobo, do you need to have your ram and cpu in place when you boot with the USB drive.
I'd like to use the R5 2400g with this board but everything I've read so far says that you need to have an older CPU in place in order to flash the bios.
When i buy a new b350m mortar today does it come with the new BIOS
Is this board better than the msi b350m gaming pro?
MSI B350M Mortar or ASRock AB350 Pro4?
can i use a ryzen 2400 with this??? i understand the bios wont be up to date but im not worried about that as long as everything else will be fine
How did you create the bootable flash drive ?? ... to reflash the bios?
If i have two 8 gb sticks which slots should i put them in?
Question
I have the Bazooka B350m Mobo and R5 1600x - On MSI website for the MOBO support the latest bios update is 7A38v17 but on the compatibility list (CPU compatibility) for that same mobo it shows bios 7A38v11 for the R5 1600x. (had other bios versions for R7 in that same list). I updated the MOBO to the lastest version thinking that makes sense but I've been having crashing issues with games, should I try flashing the bios under the compatibility list for the R5 1600x (7A38v11).
mustafa said I haven't heard of different BIOS for different CPUs since all the ryzens are the same die same CPU just disabled or removed cores but it's worth a try if it specifies a difference
whats the best micro atx board for the ryzen 7?? thanks!
Can i change that orange/red led color of the motherboard?
Can you install 2 fans?
what b350 board do you suggest for a new ryzen build that's gonna work outta the box? first time building a PC so rather avoid some headaches lol.. appreciate the help!
Any of the MSI's or ASRock boards are good, as are the newer ASUS boards. The Gigabyte ones are nice as well. Any of them should work quite nicely to be honest
Planning to get the Bazooka variant. Any thoughts? Not much resource of it online.
Initially I wanted to get the Asus Prime B350M-A but it doesnt have much vrm heatsink which would mean its not up to par with overclocking right?
ps: planning to get the R5 1600 with its stock cooler
Hi, could you please tell me the steps that i have to follow to update the bios(like where should i plug the USB and so on)? I have the same problem with this motherboard and it can't detect my RAMs. Thank you.
There may be a problem with your RAM, try one stick at a time in slot 2 or 4. To go about updating, the USB should be used in a 2.0 port
Hi, I have a question. There seems to be a sticker on the B350M Mortar logo on the motherboard should I try to remove it? Or should I just leave it there?
As long as it's not on a heatsink or covering anything you need to use I'm sure it's fine
Dude if i have this Motherboard and i use Coolermaster Hyper 212x? It will block the 1st Pcie Slot?
I'm not sure specifically, check the dimensions of that cooler and see if it has a Ryzen plate attachment from CM
Is it work with ryzen 5000 series?
Can you show how you flash it in another video please
How many fans ports has?
Does it has integreated WLAN
Support windows 7?
g.skill fortis will be fine??
I got me the b350 Gaming Pro mobo and it turns on but it won't display anything at startup. Do you know what it can be wrong with it??
What video card are you using?
I have this board. I know the x370 msi boards support corsair lpx 3000 cl15 ram so I got that. it doesn't support it. I had no problems posting out of the box but couldn't get the ram to XMP 1 or 2 so I updated to the latest bios via m flash to .140 and got to 2400 vcl14 from the drop down. Note I tried everything to go faster but this was the ONLY thing other than stock it would even post with. Since then ive updated again via m flash to .150 bios which is the latest July update with a lot more ram support. Shame mine still is not listed even though it is in numerous x370 builds on youtube at xmp settings. Ive tweeted @ msi and ive emailed through their web portal etc and not even had a reply from them. VERY POOR SUPPORT FROM MSI and no info on when these issues will be sorted out. on the website no corsair ram with 3000 speed is even listed as supported on the bios data sheet. COME ON MSI!
I have the same set on a ASRock Pro4 and the highest I ever got was on an older BIOS at 2667, now I'm stuck at 2133. Going to try their latest 1.0.0.6a AGESA update today
I'm not sure if its just msi that cant add 3000 cl15 lpx but I'm pissed all the reviewers are saying they use this kit in their builds and everything is fine. So either they are lying, MSI are helping them set it up or their figures are like ours 2133 or 2400 for all their benchmarking and there will be more in the tank once ram speeds get sorted
Yeah I agree, the ram support is utter BS... I was however able to get my set to 2800 today, the fastest yet, on my ASRock board with the new 3.00 AGESA 1.0.0.6a BIOS update, and at standard timings, so that's a good step up from even the 2667 I hit a while ago
Im thinking of buying this board, but im not sure if my NH-D15 cooler will fit on it without blocking the first PCI slot . Could you measure from the center of the cpu slot to the pcie slot? good luckon your build
Sure! I'll do it right now :)
Alright so it is exactly 3in from the center of the CPU socket to the top of the PCI-E slot, hope that helps :)
Thanks alot Rx ! looks like its not going to fit :(
No problem! Sorry it won't fit :/
I have the same mobo as yours but paired with Ryzen 5 1600, I only achieve 3.7-3.8 Ghz on cpu running 1.35V and 2667 Mhz on ram (corsair lpx 3200Mhz. is it just bad chip lottery or this mobo itself cannot achieve higher speed? what about yours?
That sounds about right. You should be able to just graze 3.8 with 1.35v, you will need to get to about 1.375 for 3.9 and close to 1.4v for 4.0ghz
However keep in mind that AMD recommends 1.35v as the maximum for constant usage
the thing is, even on 1.45v my cpu can't stable on 3.9 Ghz. btw I just flashed to beta bios a few days ago and got 2933 Mhz on ram stable (tested with prime95).
Hmm, it may be the limitations of your cpu, or the motherboard. Anything above 3.9 is hard to achieve without pushing it. That's great, I hope I can get mine to post at higher than 2133, how did you achieve 2933?
on beta bios:
A-XMP - disabled
manually set freq to 2933Mhz
DRAM voltage: 1.36
msi just release newer offical bios today for this board, I am gonna test it.
*update: on latest official bios (v15), manual Vcore causes the multiplier stuck at 34 (it can be just myself).
ram runs at 3200Mhz tested with prime95 10+ minutes.
all auto except ram 3200Mhz.
Friend of mine has nothing but issues with his MSI B350M Mortar. The BIOS is horrible and looks nothing like MSI's "BIOS 5" Interface. It looks very basic and has significant problems, like for example, toggling CSM to UEFI would make the BIOS completely unusable, the Interface gets distorted and text would become chinese. And his Ryzen 1700 only hits 3,2 GHz, very likely due to the motherboard.
I don't know if he got an early revision of this motherboard, but it's been a pain to work with. BIOS updates didn't change anything, even though the latest BIOS update is from 2020, so quite new.
I've heard of a lot of problems with MSI motherboards before, and I'm not sure if I would buy an MSI board myself, after hearing all that and experiencing it myself.
Will a 3000mhz corsair vengance lpx cl15 work with this board?
Yes, any DDR4 set will work, but the speed you can reach is hit and miss with the Ryzen boards and RAM kits. It also depends on BIOS updates etc. I have the same set but only hit 2667-2800 with my ASRock board.
How did you flash the bios without post? I bought ryzen 3 without knowing that it isn't supported by current Bios
ORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAENDMYLYFEORA i just bought this mobo last week. Go yo msi website sesrch for b350 mortar go to services download the latest bios put that data. In a usb .plug in . Press del. Then it will say that cmoa bat. Is reset. Press f2 to run default click m flash and update bios
Corsair Vengance 4x2 DDR4 (2400) will be fine?
Yep!
You might want to think about getting at least a 2x8 set for the future, 8GB is no longer enough for the most modern apps and games.
I would like to know how many chase fan headers there are? thank you
- 1 x 4-pin CPU fan connector
- 3 x 4-pin system fan connectors
Bro can you tell if I should go for this or Gigabyte ab350 Gaming 3 or Asus b350 Prime Plus?
Edit : Also tell if the MSI b350 Gaming Pro is any good
All the MSI boards are pretty good, and we have the Gigabyte Gaming 3 and its a great mobo as well. Either one would be nice. As for the Asus Prime, its an older board.
Thanks man :3
No problem!
I got the Gaming 3 from Gigabyte. Was on sale today got it for like 75$.
That's a killer price!
Can it run 3 monitors at the same time, multimedia?
If you have the proper graphics card then yes, there is no onboard video on any of the AMD boards, you need a APU for that which are not out yet
How many USB 3.0 internal headers does it have?
It has 3 3.1 and 1 3.1 class C :) plus the 2 2.0
The Vengeance LPX 3000mhz memory is not a great fit with this board...even with the bios updates
Ja Mell I've just brought this combo, what do I do to avoid any problems?
Gurvinder Bhohie send the memory back the store. It will not work with this board
Ja Mell it will work but at 2933? Right?
So I tried it again and it crashes my system... I sent back all my parts even got fury X 2400 this time.... But now I can't over clock the processor above 3.6 with out crashes. The debug led with glow for both dram and cpu. After about 7 reboots it resets
This also causes the cpu speed to be reduced to 1.5 ghz.... This is very weird. I tried an Asus prime board and had the same result
there´s tons of blogs stating that BIOS upgrades needs to be done for the mobo to work with some DDR´s, that´s stupid but as a rule of thumb you should google what your buying before hand to avoid unwanted surprises, that´s my opinion, anyway.
Cesar Taoki Chavez Chavez same problem here
I agree, we couldn't even boot with it first time, had to do a janky work around with USB flash
what ram worked I really need to know
We got the Corsair Vengeance ddr4 3000 - White: a.co/9ctDiJQ and the Kingston Hyperx FURY ddr4 2400: a.co/3GUgoCx Both sets are working, but we will post a Ryzen RAM video at some point explaining more
Thanks that helps a tone (sorry for the late reply)
No problem, thanks for the question!
do you think the MSI B350M Bazooka one also share this similar problem? btw, can I OC a stock 2400MHz RAM with these MSI boards? Thanks
PC Rx does hyperx fury 2133 work?
The asrock Pro4 one is 3+3 actualy :v
asrock may look like it has six but its actually 3+3 the MSI is 4+2
where do i find the instructions to manually flash the board?
I would recommend using a smaller usb in a 2.0 port, like an 8GB formatted to FAT32 or something: www.msi.com/files/pdf/How_to_flash_the_BIOS.pdf
10:40 "gigabyte is doing pretty good too"
I've been researching on the subject for weeks now as a potential buyer.
Gigabyte mATX has the worst VRMs out of b350 models.ATX is an improvement but it's still lower quality than other motherboards out there.
Only go for gigabyte gaming 3 ATX for its audio quality but don't complain if you can't reach your CPU's potential overclock.I'd much rather recommend an usb DAC stick along with mortar b350, and for ATX Asus prime plus seems like a good option.
Well, that may be the case but the VRM is not the be all end all of a board. You should check out reviews for the boards, ASRock and Gigabyte have the best while the lower end ASUS boards are among the worst
Sorry to hear that, what is it missing that you needed?
Oh sorry, that sucks :/ hopefully you can exchange it for something else that will work for you
Might just be the micro atx instead of atx
Asus seems to have the best vrms available after msi, I'm not including the Asus mATX board with no vrm cooling at all, that board is just plain bad. Asrock seems to have more stripped boards vs other manufacturers although they have decent vrms. I'm definitely going for msi mortar though.
sound card on this card suck, im using one i plug my steelseries siberia 200 and it has low volume and i try it on my another PC and it sounds good u need to purchase usb sound card for it to have good volume
Is this microATX
Yes
How did you update the bios to 1.1 with no post?
We had to manually flash with a usb formatted with the correct update following MSI's instructions and used a USB 2.0 port
PC Rx can be done without cpu or ram? With backflash+ I'm talking about.
the pro4 or the k4 b350?
They are both basically the same motherboard, very few differences except price and color, although the K4 has a reinforced PCI-E port. I have the pro4 and really like it :)
i really like the pro4 sadly i have a black and red theme room. :/
The MSI B350M, the one in this video is not a bad board but here are some other options :) www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813144018
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813145009
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128999
sadly my budget is mainly towards the gpu, cant really push the price point. maybe msi is the board or the k4 from asrock if its around 10 usd below in deference
If you're not planning on OCing the CPU, you could always get a A350 board, but any of the cheaper b350s are pretty good. MSI is least build quality but good features, ASRock is best quality but lowest features, and Gigabyte has a good mix of the two. ASUS has crap lower end boards and Biostar is meh across the board lol puns
