Hey boss, you are my 3rd favorite channel & my 2nd has a wife who curses every 30 seconds & haven't had bad feedback. So bleep it out & cus James! True reactions are what you truly speak!
Lord Raiden is the 3 storms & Wang us Lui Kang.
Well, I'm just going to say it: Patron Stephanie is clearly a person of discerning taste and sophistication.
It's all in the reflexes 💪
I love this film.. so unique, and knows exactly what it is and revels in it! It was a favorite of my dads. Quite likely the only movie where the sidekick is the main character and a known action here lol. If it wasn't already easy to love Kurt Russell, the fact he is willing to laugh at himself just cements it, along with breaking every Hollywood actor trope by still being married to the same amazing actress for so long (Goldie Hawn)
You were not put upon this Earth to get it 🤭
Shut up Mr Burton! 🤣🤣🤣
Holy God this movie is A TEN.
TY STEPHANIE!!!!
Ohhh I’m excited! One of my favorite movies EVER!
This movie is perhaps the best example of the main character being just the sidekick.
I've heard a better explanation that it's actually an American action hero in a Chinese action movie
"I'm beginning to feel like an outsider here" "You ARE." lol
This is a favorite of one of my friends. I actually enjoy this movie more after each watching. So much happening.
I'll never get tired of Gracie laws power entrance
It’s very reassuring. I didn’t panic at all, knowing that it was only her.
For more John Carpenter/Kurt Russell collaborations.
The Thing 1978, Escape from New York and it's campy sequel Escape From LA.
The Thing was 1982.
@@tremorsfan I forgot to correct that.
"You can bet anything I guess!"
While that is true, they aren't just betting at random. They are playing a Chinese gambling game called Fan-Tan. Two handfuls of loose objects (coins, beans, whatever) are dropped in a cup and flipped. Gamblers bet blindly on the remainder being odd or even after the total count is divided by 4.
There is also a card version played in casinos.
Kurt Russel acted this role based off John Wayne...
Also Snake Plessken
@@cliffgraham9892 Snake Plissken was based off Clint Eastwood.
@@7thsealord888 I thought you were dead line everytime somone met him was from Big Jake. The eye patch was from True grit.
@@cliffgraham9892 ... And the DELIVERY was pure Eastwood. If you ever watched a Dirty Harry movie, you'd know.
And is much better at it.
Apparently this is where Mortal Kombat got inspiration for their characters.
Not really. The only similarity is the lightning user, and that’s actually based on a Japanese character, not Chinese.
My fav movie of all time! Has nothing to do with me being on set as a child!
Just glad you didn't say ( I don't know what I'm watching.) The lipstick on Jack was suggested by Kurt, he thought it would add to the humor.
That was a great reaction! Most people have no idea what to make of this movie when they first see it, but you seemed to have enjoyed it for what it is which is just a slightly goofy action movie that's not meant to be taken seriously.
Kurt Russel might be the greatest american actor ever a career going back to the 60s with some Disney movies still making movies in his 70s
An old friend of my wife was in this movie. He was one of the people on the bus.
This movie also goes in crazy directions.
Good call, that WAS the same old firehouse used in GHOSTBUSTERS (the interior, the exterior is a different firehouse in New York). It's shown up in a number of films and TV shows (David Lynch's LOST HIGHWAY comes to mind).
I'm so glad you enjoyed this so much. This is one of my favorite movies. It was one I watched over and over as a kid (and probably too young). This is probably my favorite John Carpenter (come at me internet!!!) 10 out of 10 would recommend...no notes...chef's kiss! It makes me sad that they don't make weird, fun, movies like this anymore.
"Here's to the Army and Navy and the battles they have won, here's to America's colors, the colors that never run."
May wings of liberty never lose a feather. Great patriotic words!
Spoken well by Chinese immigrants. 😊
This story was originally supposed to be staged as a western. But was thought that westerns weren’t popular anymore so it was updated!to take place in more modern times.
Honestly, a prequel set in Wild West San Francisco would be pretty awesome.
Some background on this movie: Wang was originally the main character, it was meant to be a kung fu movie but Hollywood though that would not sell. John Carpenter rewrote the script so it took place from Jack Burton's perspective and he was the sidekick who didn't know he was the sidekick. Hollywood picked that up because "hey Kurt Russell is the main character" without realizing it was the same script. That's how this movie was made. This movie was a key part of John Carpenter's journey of disillusionment with Hollywood.
The pork chop Express was the first real podcast lol
Oh no, those truckers have been doing that for a LOOOOONNNNGGGGG time.
Great reaction, great movie.
John Carpenter had a certain fame as a movie-maker. It was well-known that, if you didn't have the money to make a movie as written, he would find a way AND the finished movie would still look great. He and Kurt Russell worked together a number of times.
Also note, a lot of 'Big Trouble' was filmed on location in San Francisco's Chinatown. John Carpenter always maintained that some stuff that happened during filming was at least as wild as anything in the movie. :)
and he is really great composer... He is waiting to return as director when time is right appareantly.
Awesome reaction of my favorite movie!!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊
33:16 If you pay attention, you'll see the guy who played Lo Pan in a LOT of other places. Including Everything Everywhere All at Once.
This movie is so ridicules but fun all at the same time.
I have a 24x36 poster of it right next to a Prince of Darkness poster. Amazing they are both Carpenter films. There are at least two of the same actors in both though.
The original script was a Western set in 1880s San Francisco.
Jack Burton is a subversion of what you normally see with that type of character. Normally if you have a character that full of himself, he will quickly reveal himself to be a coward and quitter. Jack talks himself in way over his head and then doggie paddles his way to the end like a champ.
I love this movie & watch every reaction to it I can find. Thank you for sharing yours. Awesome!
This movie draws heavy inspiration from the Hong Kong action movie Zu: Warriors From The Magic Mountain (1983), which in turn is based on a series of Wuxia novels from the 30s and 40s.
That movie worth watching itself?
@@christopherb501 Depends on what you think of Hong Kong action movies. It's crazy and very over the top.
When they drop the statue on Lightning’s head, a Chinese character forms in the lightning.
The character translates as “Carpenter.” 😂
One of my favourite things about this movie is trying to describe what type of movie it is to someone that has never heard of it
Yeah that would be tough
This reaction will appease my Emperor indeed!
Such a fun movie!
Good reaction James to a carpentar classic
You just listen to ol' Jack Burton ...
Who?
@@sxm76 Jack Burton!
It's all in the re-actions.
Such a great movie
They didnt grab her. She was.....Taken....4
I had never heard of this movie until I was turned onto it by a couple of employees at Gamestop told me to get it and watch it. If I didn't like it they would take it back for a full refund. Still have to this day
One of my family's favorite movies, can qoute like every line!! Such a fun movie! I suggest a few other Carpenter/ Russell films the Thing (best and favorite horror film) and escape from new york (fun syfy).
'Bullsh@tters' like Jack are - or were - known on CB radio as 'ratchet jaws,' and they provided entertainment for truckers on the long hauls, like a pre-internet podcast. Lo Pan was played by James Hong, who also voiced Po's father in the 'Kung Fu Panda' franchise. The ending where they celebrate like they didn't lose every one of Eg's allies is kind of ironic, to me.
There's a couple other actors in this you probably _should_ recognize, even if you haven't gotten to their other films yet: Kim Cattrall, who played Gracie Law, made it big as the lead of Sex and the City (the show & movies), and James Hong, who played David Lo Pan (in both incarnations--talk about great makeup!), who has featured in literally hundreds of film & television roles over the years, including 2022's epic Everything Everywhere All At Once and voice acting in the recently released Kung Fu Panda 4 (at the age of 95!).
In addition to the excellent makeup, visual effects, and fight choreography, hats off to whoever was driving that Pork Chop Express in those city scenes. Some of the most impressive stunt driving I can recall.
Oh, and if you ever get around to Mortal Kombat (the games or the movies), you'll recognize the character of Raiden...lifted straight from this movie by the original game developers. 😆
I always love seeing James Hong pop up, even for cameos like Airplane and minor roles like RIPD. Balls of Fury is made all the funnier with James as the blind sensei.
@@LordVolkov , you should have seen me the first time I saw the Lo Pan themed "Gangnam Style" parody. When James showed up, I was almost bouncing off the walls! 🤣
Raiden is based on the Japanese deity Raijin, not this movie.
@@Parallax-3D His appearance, not his name.
Great movie you should also watch The Golden Child the came around the same time with Eddie Murphy which is the same ideas. Fyi this movie was one of the inspiration to the game Mortal Kombat. Other great Kurt Russell movies are Breakdown and Executive Decision
There exist comics. They are great.
Among the comics, there's also a crossover with Escape from New York. No idea how that one turned out.
I can never remember the name of Kurt Russell's character in this movie. I wish they said it more often.
Three storms Thunder, Rain and Lightning
James Wong is in his 90s and looks like David l.p. pan now isn't that ironic
gracie laa was officer thompson i police academy
Never seen it
Jack Burton the original influencer
This is such a fun movie!!
They’re making a remake with The Rock, currently filming.
Dungeons and dragons own the name beholder so they couldn't call the Guardian that but it's a beholder
If ya ain't seen they live john carpenter filmed in in like 9 days while filming this on some time off and they mention something happening in 2025 so that's next year and if you have sewn they live you may be happy or not about 2025
Pretty sure these China Town storm gods gave the creators of the controversial video game Mortal Kombat the inspiration that the needed to bring the rated -M game to arcades and living rooms.
Yes, the MK guy has stated that once he found out what the Raiden from myth supposedly looked like (a little red monkey spirit, I think it was), he needed something that better fit a fighting game, and when he saw Lightning in this movie, he found his inspiration.
That entire final battle takes place in jacks head he's still knocked out from the cement falling on his head
Hey James, where's your CAT? Still outside or on your chest?
I always like when people call me names or try to get racial since im actually native American & ya'll are technically on my land according to my ancestors.
Best real-life retort I've seen to anti-immigrant protestors was an Indigenous person jeering at _them_ to "go back where they came from".
That's raiden not thor
if this is a good react...you might get me
