The Jon Lovitz Hitler car scene is probably the funniest thing ever put on film. I died of laughter the first time I saw this in theaters years ago. So many great scenes in this movie, truly an underrated gem of the 2000s.
It'd be hilarious enough just having anyone stumble into a neo-Nazi museum, but having Lovitz and family be Jewish just makes it even more so. The looks of sheer horror on their faces is priceless.
She’s actually pretty good in this, showing that streak of crazy. She did some roles outside the norm and although they aren’t going to get her big nominations, at least she didn’t fold into the normal hollywood young girl path of movie choices (although her management probably hated that). She’s got balls too. Nudity in Crank was unnecessary and didn’t help her career, but she handled that weirdness really well and showed some brave acting chops. Same in that stoner movie with the guy that never did anything again….Farelly brothers movie iirc. Didn’t help her career but her performance was genuine.
Honestly, I love this movie, and we need more movies that basically ignore some physics, like with the hot-air balloon and the cow, the helicopter truck chase, and trying to destroy a radar tower. This also got the most 2000s ending with Smash Mouth playing All Star at the end. 😂
I feel that this movie tried to catch some of the brainless charm of a lot of 80's movies (Airplane, Police Academy, etc.) and I feel that it did pretty well. I liked this movie a lot more than the critics and Rotten Tomatoes evidently did.
I was still in college so Smash Mouth's All Star is from the '90s. 1999, but not 2000s. Mystery Men was the first film to have it and it was also 1999. This and Shrek were 2001 though.
Funny story: Cuba Gooding's character Owen Templeton is based on a real referee, Phil Luckett, who actually botched a coin toss during a game, and on Thanksgiving Day no less.
@@tempsitch5632 The Steelers player who called the coin flip seemed to switch his call while doing so, so it sounded like "Headstails!" Luckett's actions therefore were understandable. Gooding's character, however, completely bungles the call on his own accord and then gets belligerent trying to cover up his error.
@@tempsitch5632 Jerome Bettis began to say "heads," but switched to "tails" while the coin was still in the air. It came out as "hea-tails," and it was hard to hear the first part. But Luckett claimed Bettis called heads, and if I remember correctly, rules at the time said the referee had to go with the first choice.
The key maker who overhears and gets involved is an actor by the name of Silas Weir-Mitchell. He went on to play my favorite character, "Monroe" in one of my favorite shows of all time, "Grimm" on NBC from 2011-2017.
I had the privilege of performing stand-up comedy with Jon Lovitz and while hanging out in the green room, he told me about how he was really nervous about the Hitler on stage scene but after the premiere, Dustin Hoffman's son came up to Jon and told him how much his father loved that joke and couldn't stop laughing.
The first time my parents watched this, we took a break right after the squirrell scene to go get DQ for dinner. ,on the way there my dad madea crazy wide turn (still don't know why), and Isaid from the backseat, "You should havebought a squirrell." I don't ever recall my parents laughing so hard.
@25:22 remains one the f**king funniest sequences I've ever seen in any movie. Kathy Najimy’s facial expressions are everything as she slowly realizes whom her husband is accidentally emulating. Love this film and love this reaction video!
Amy Smart is an underrated comedic actor of the 2000s. Rat Race itself was heavily influenced by It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, which is well worth checking out.
Great reaction! Rat Race is one of my favorite comedies, really underrated. I am so glad you reacted to it. It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World is, in my opinion, just as funny as Rat Race, but it is also a product of a bygone era. It stars many of the biggest comedians of the 1950s and part of the humor is them being themselves (or the character types they used to portray), so many current-day reactors find it slow (they used to take more time to develop jokes) and not as funny. As someone familiar with those comedians (my mom and I used to watch lots of old comedies when I was a kid), I find it hilarious, but others do not.
I remember going to watch this in the theatre with some friends with no clue what to expect. I definitely did not expect to see literally one of the funniest movies I've ever watched even today.
I saw this in theatres with five good friends when it came out, it was one of the funniest, best movie experiences of my life. It will always have a fond place in my heart.
Such an old classic. Vince Vieluf is a truly unsung hero on these movies. Funny trivia, he and Seth Green demanded they do their own stunts. Ironically, their characters had the most physical humor in the film.
Saw this in the theater when it came out. I was laughing so hard I was gasping for air. My Fiancee was so embarrassed she went several rows away. It was a great semi-remake of "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World".
I watched this movie 4 times in theaters and laughed 3/4 of the time. The last time me and my boy brought our friend and he didn't laugh and it killed it for us. But I still loved it and couldn't wait for the DVD so I bought a bootleg of it...Jesus. Back when it took like 6 months to a year for a home release depending on the movie (Christmas movie wouldn't be released until the next fall at the earliest since they figured they wouldn't sell during non-holiday periods). Ur the only guys that's reacted to this comedic classic!!!!!!!! Big ups to ur husband, Casey, he has taste. Vince Vieluf and Seth Green were hilarious in this movie, going toe to toe with Rowan Atkinson who's a comedy legend . This film is a masterclass in comedy acting!!!!!!!!!!!!
The running gag of Cleese and his cronies wagering on EVERYTHING never fails to get a laugh. (There's a deleted scene where they're also playing Monopoly...with real money.) Now you need to watch the movie that inspired this one, "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World." The insanity is tenfold in that one and it features basically every comedian alive at the time.
This came out just after that really bad day one September. The effect it had on people that hadn't really felt like laughing for quite a while was incredible.
In the gag reel for this as one of the DVD extras, it shows an extended part of the scene where Blaine is trying to convince Duane to put his portion of the money in the bag. During the filming of that scene, director Jerry Zucker asked the camera guy how much film was left in there, and he said only a couple of minutes. He had him keep it rolling for a while. While the camera is still rolling, Seth Green (Duane) even says "Just put it on the DVD". So they did.
Favorite line read: Uh, begin, commence, start moving... theoretically you have been racing for about forty seconds now, and so far Mr. Schaffer is winning because he's nearest to the door!
I went to see this at a free movie screening when it first came out knowing nothing about the film. My cousin and I walked out with our stomachs hurting from how much we laughed. Knowing nothing about the film was a perfect way going in since nothing from the trailers would’ve spoiled any jokes for us.
John Cleese is named Donald Sinclair, the owner of the hotel. The real life Donald Sinclair was a real hotelier of the Gleneagles Hotel in Torquay, England. He was the inspiration of Basil Fawlty (played by John Cleese) in the show Fawlty Towers, which is a fictional hotel in Torquay. And in real life, Donald was small and he had a taller wife, and in Fawlty Towers John reversed their size, John being the tall hotelier and Prunella Scales playing his small wife Sybil Fawlty.
This movie is very reminiscent of “It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World”, though the reason for the people racing was different. Kathy Bates (the mom from Waterboy) was also in Misery, though the tone of that one is a bit different.
@@DarrenEden-ub4vj Yes, but it’s not a being done due to rich people betting on the racers in both movies. I suppose it would be more accurate to say the way the “race” starts is different in both movies.

In a deleted scene, the umpire got rescued from the Lucys by a bus load of Ricky Riccardo imitators.

Since you are fans of Gene Wilder and now watching comedies, watch Stir Crazy and See No Evil, Hear No Evil it's one of my favourites of his
So much fun watching this with you two! If you want something as funny as this ... "Mr. Bean's Vacation" will tear you up!
Agreed...Mr Bean is one of the funniest characters to this day.
It is sad that movies like this cannot be made anymore.
I saw this in the theater and everyone was scream-laughing. Omg, I was out of breath from laughing.
Love you both! The Mr. Bean movie should be one of your next reactions, although not quite as funny as the TV series, it does have some pretty great moments. Happy New Year to you guys!
This is one of those movies that hilarious as a kid but gets infinitely funnier as an adult after getting the jokes. The barbie musuem and Jon Lovitz looking like hitler has me lose it every time lolol
Love this movie!! If you're looking for an obscure comedy I highly suggest Hamlet 2.. it is hilarious and not a lot of people talk about it!! 😁
There was something so funny about them opening the pit of the rocket car, and she is like, "How do you stahrt it?".
Political correctness was the death of comedies.
The Hitler scene is one of the funniest pieces of media I've ever seen 😂
