Hey everyone! Thanks for watching! I am hosting a group trip this August 25th-30th in the Canadian Rockies where we will be camping, hiking, climbing, and even going to a spa nestled in the mountains! The trip is going live this friday at 9 am with limited spots available. Luckily there are only 4 species of tics in Oregon that prey on humans and only the western black-legged tick is the only known carrier of Lyme disease in OR. Still a good idea to check for ticks but I've lived here for 19 years, am an avid day hiker and backpacker and I've never had a tick on me or my dog.
Go Loui and William! It's so freeing to wander the wilderness and set up camp wherever you want. I've been doing it for a lifetime with zero regrets and amazing memories of pristine nature. 👏💕🐕
Wise to give yourself extra time...never know what you will encounter. Take a tip from Camping With Steve...cook your food a good ways away from your tent!
Congratulations on making that leap into solo backpacking - that's the way to earn that 'Adventure' label! The only thing I noticed was that it looks like you don't use a footprint under your tent. You can cut a piece of blue tarp to size and lay it down before your tent - it will help protect the tent floor and extend your tent life. Thanks for the great vid.
Gosh, what a win, having your dog trained to sleep in his own sleeping bag! The awesome thing about backpacking is how it gets you into places most people never see or imagine. The start of an awesome chapter!
Congrats on your first solo overnight bp trip!! Beautiful forest, great weather. Me personally, I feel the safest when camping in the back country. Boon docking in a van or jeep or camper is spookier for me than camping several miles up the trail. I've never had problems with animals or people on a backpack, but have had a few weird encounters when car camping. So I give a thumbs up to backpacking!
You are smart and have your dog for help. My husband always said boy and his dog are more than a match for the wild animals. It is a bit scary at first in the woods alone but actually more safe than downtown cities in my opinion. Just keep your senses open and that should help. Glad you go out with FF as he is very experienced and can let you know how to handle situations. Nothing is for certain but you are smart and in decent shape so I like to think you will be fine.
Hi Loui 👋 I have been camping & rafting on the Mckenzie river many times. It was always one of my favorite places to hike & camp. Thanks for helping me to relive those wonderful memories through you! 😊❤
@@AdventureTimeLoui yes it is, so is Redwood national park in Northern California. If you have never been there you should definitely check it out. UNBELIEVABLE old growth redwoods hundreds of years old, so big that you can actually drive a car through the base of a tree!!

It absolutely can be done safely by anyone. Just make sure you have the proper gear. Mad props for thinking ahead and bringing an emergency bivy . Hypothermia is horrible. Great job.
Look at you you are brave. I went camping once laugh out loud, but ended up sleeping in my car. Too many noises for me but I like being out there. Thank you for sharing. Stay blessed.
Loui, FWIW. Ya need to bring a thin paracord/rope. Wrap one end around a rock w/knot. Throw over a 12’+ branch and then hoist your food bag up. Ya need your food bag way higher than you had it. Min 8-10’.
Not for an Ursack actually! You want to reduce the amount of leverage on the bag. Makes it harder for them to tear at it thus making them bored with it. An Ursack is made out of specialized material that they can’t rip into.
@@AdventureTimeLoui interesting. Never used that sack. Read their directions tho. Says 10’ branch. Been backpacking a long time, my view is higher the better. I am sure there’s a million ways to do it. Cheers!
This was a very beautiful experience camping in the forest. I love your encouraging message to women of all walks of life and all ages. The best way to conquer fear or apprehension is to face it, look at it square and go right through it one little step at a time. Kudos for your expedition !! Ideally you'd want to select a camp away from the noise of the river so that you can hear what's going on around you, but I get it, it also lulls you to sleep.... and you need to hang the bear bag way higher, out of reach, on a rope you throw over a branch, because this time Mr Bear would have had no problem getting your goodies... Hope I'm not sounding preachy or condescending, just observing.... cheers !
I’ve had my eye on you for a minute, and have always loved your content, Loui, but I am subscribing on THIS one because, not only is it encouraging my desire to get back into hiking seriously, but it’s just plain damn INSPIRING, periodt! Thanks SO much for being kind enough to share and show by example how to push through and get it done. It’s GOOD STUFF❣️
1:40 That is a cedar log. The log has a fungus that lives within the heartwood of the cedar. It typically does not kill the three, as the fungus stays within the heartwood and does not affect the living sap wood. But with time, the tree becomes vulnerable to catastrophic structural failure, meaning it has a severe breakage at some point. When processed into lumber, typically fence boards, is is commonly known as "Peggy Cedar".
Great job, Loui! As a solo woman adventurer, I know how intimidating trips can be. The more you do, the easier it gets. Also, I find by night three in the woods, I sleep like a log. My dog has the same sleeping bag and he also loves it. ❤
