Acid Bath has been my all time favorite band since I was around 13 years old (I'll be 41 next month). I watched them play at Main St. in Breaux Bridge shortly after Audie passed away and it was one of the most raw and emotional shows I've ever experienced... Cut her throat and whisper that we're going home.. what's your favorite lyrics?
Acid bath is legendary. For a small band from the bayous of Louisiana to only make a couple demos and albums and yet influence so many other bands is absolutely insane. They were far,far ahead of their time. It’s a shame about their bassist and the eventual split.
The Blue, Tranquilized, The Bones of Baby Dolls, those were my absolute favorites. Dax Riggs was almost like a sludge metal Jim Morrison in my opinion. Check out Tranquilized and The Bones of Baby Dolls. You'll love them, especially if you liked The Blue. One of the lyrics that stuck out to me came from the song Diab Soule from Pagan Terrorism Tactics when he said: "I Understand...and don't care 'cuz the skyscrapers look like gravestones yeah, from out here..." Absolutely haunting every time I look at the Philly Skyline from where I live
I think this was filmed at a skate park somewhere. They never really played huge venues or festivals. Just small places. But they have the biggest cult following in metal. Went to a stone sour show once and met Corey Taylor. He saw the Agents of Oblivion tshirt my buddy was wearing and mentioned how he loved Dax Riggs and how he was suppose to collab with him, but haven't heard of it happening.
Oh, also, Tool expressed real interest in them as well, e.g. they wanted them to go on tour opening for them, and wanted to help give them some more exposure. This must have been around Tool's Undertow era. Mike mentioned that to me some years ago when he was reminiscing about the old days when they were active and touring. These dudes had a real effect on everyone who was exposed to them, far beyond the degree of their actual success. Such a shame it fell apart.
@@kerrisheets958 I don't recall the specific reasons clearly now--it was at least 7 or 8 years ago when we were hanging out pretty regularly. But my own assumption--and I think a fair one--is a combination of their record company's incompetence at promotion and management, and of course Audie's passing.
You should honestly buy their 2 albums cuz live footage doesn't do them justice and you can't find official studio recordings on UA-cam cuz Rotten Records screwed them over big time after Audi died and won't allow UA-cam to play their music. They supposedly had a contract to make four albums which would've included a live album but once Audi the bass player died (who was primarily the musical genius that wrote most of the music) the band broke up. When my friends and I met Dax and Mike at an Agents of Oblivion show in Gulfport MS we asked them if they would ever get back together Dax simply said Acid Bath was awesome but we could never go on without Audi and we have to move on to new chapters!
Never mind cuz I see that you're name is Josh and I thought you were addressing my name is Josh too plus my old school friend Jeff has the same profile pic as you, lol!
These live bootleg videos don't do the band justice. They sounded amazing live, it never comes through on these cheap recordings. Blame Rotten Records for not having access to quality Acid Bath music on UA-cam. They were an underground band Vin, never made it big. They only put out two albums before their bass player was killed in a car accident and the band split up. They've gained a larger cult following since their breakup. Their music was really unique for the time, this was early 90's. Two guitarists in this band, Mike Sanchez and Sammy Duet. Sammy Duet is currently in Goatwhore. He was also in Crowbar for a while. The singer, Dax, is a solo artist now. Very different musically. One of his songs is used for the intro music to the TV show iZombie.
Man I miss this band. Got to see them live 20+ times when they were hitting the local bar/club scene in southern Louisiana. Their lyrical content is what kept them from getting radio exposure but they still managed to be an incredibly influential band.
That Vin and Sori actually took the time to ask the questions that Daxx presents when they really only wanted to just dig the groove is telling. And yes, sadly, Vin read it right. Suicide. Usually, his facial expressions (contortions) are right in line with the groove. Not here. It cut deep. I'm not glad that he felt that. I AM glad that he and Sori had an adult conversation about it instead of the usual Siskel and Ebert reaction videos we are used to. Also glad that Daxx is still with us. Acid Bath was a moment in time. Was never meant to last. Again, suicide was the moniker.
Far as I know the albums are on Spotify, wonder if you could listen to the actual recording through Spotify and just post a picture where the video would be. It'd just be like listening to it on youtube anyways when they have one posted with no video. Just because you really should check out the actual recordings (I recommend Bones Of Baby Dolls and Scream Of The Butterfly myself from Acid Bath)
Sludge or specifically this brand of sludge is usually pretty hardcore lyrically and usually fueld by drugs, cue herion sludge. Bands like Indian or The Body feel a lot more visceral than say the more movielike gore in death metal.
When one of your kids joins a really heavy band and Sori decides to record one of their shows on her phone. That is what this production reminds me of.. Good song though.
Wow.. This is an oldie but goodie. @Vin, you mentioned the guitarist being a bad ass. That's the NOLA legend Sammy Duet (Short haired with beard). He is the current guitarist in Goatwhore (Highly Recommend this band for reactions). He did guitar in Crowbar's Odd Fellows Rest, Equilibrium and Sonic Excess in its Purest Form (also a super recommended band) . Crazy seeing Sammy in his younger years in this video.
Seems they were playing with D.R.I. this show. What a show to be at. I still go see D.R.I. every time they come around, would love to see some reactions to them
It's hard to find any good quality acid bath on UA-cam. Google music has all their songs. I used to love Acid Bath. Still do. My personal favorites are the slower darker songs Like Venus Blue, New Death Sensation, Bleed Me An Ocean so many great songs. Tranquilized is another fav of mine. But I do try to stay away from darker music these days. Puts me in a somber mood. I have enough sadness and anger in my life. I try to focus on the positive and stay in a happy mood. All I can is pray and keep faith that God will take care. But I am glad to see you react to Acid Bath. ( Daxx Riggs is the vocalist. I'm typing this as I'm listening. Well, you found it. ) I can't remember the band he's in now but it's so different. Last year I listened to some of his old interviews and he's so soft spoken. If I would have heard him speak before I listened to the music I never would have imagined it to be this intense. Especially his singing. He is a lyrical genius, well to he is and paired with the rest of the band...just a big burst intense energy. Puts one in a mood. I do not know of too many ppl that has ever heard of them. My ex, my two son's dad, introduced me to them but we used to spend hours in CD shops way before the internet blew up, way before UA-cam. So he'd find stuff that not too many of our friends had heard of. I know there's many many fabs out there I just personally don't know if many. Anyways, yeah good stuff. Good video.
Finally another acid bath song👌👌 You guys should really look into the band. You cant find them on UA-cam because of Rotten Records, but I heard both the album's are available on spotify now. You guys may be more into the second album than the first but I love them both.
Omg yes I was friends with the bassists son Audie when I was younger, hes grown now and has a son. One of my favorite bands ever the imagery this band paints in your head is wild. Yall definitely should do more acid bath in the future!
HERE 4 YEARS LATER AND GUESS WHAT?!?!?!? ACID BATH WILL REUNITE IN LAS VEGAS FOR ONE OF THE BIGGEST METAL SHOWS OF 2025. I WILL BE THERE AFTER THINKING THIS WAS IMPOSSIBLE.
Hey Vin and Sori, it's Best Buy Hans from the original Acid Bath, they hit us with a cease and desist using that name. Just wish you could have heard our music but studios cost more money than we had and the real world was just not in our favor at that time. Thanks for the shout out, and keep reviewing music. Nobody does it better and I love your insights. Cheers!
Only put out two phenomenal, influential albums, before their bassist died. Dax and Mike (essentially) reformed as Agents Of Oblivion, for one album. Lead singer Dax Riggs wrote all the lyrics... very cool (and extremely dark) stuff! You ALMOST cant go wrong reacting to any song of theirs, but some are clearly better than others ... for instance Dead Girl is kind of an acoustic ballad, has some amazing lyrics, and has one of my favorite lines ever ... “The sound of the ocean is dead. It's just the echo of the blood in your head”. Agents Of Oblivion recorded a full metal version of it. Scream Of The Butterfly, Dope Fiend, Paegan Love Song, Bleed Me An Ocean, Grave Flower, New Death Sensation are other titles that stick out :)
Check out Dax Riggs - Night is the notion, or Terrors of Nightlife, or Ourobouros. Anything Dax Riggs did was amazing and he was really a hidden gem for his time. Met him once and he's a really cool dude. Amazing vocalist.
I think the simplest interpretation of the lines "I have fallen deep in love with the sky" and "sunbeams gleaming on the kitchen knife" is someone lying on their back as they're dying by their own hand. They are reveling in their own death. It's fucked up and intense, but that's Acid Bath.
You are right about the nervous tick he keeps his hand in his pocket to keep it under control he's a lyrical genius they are very much under ground you must here both there albums masterpieces
This band should have been huge but unfortunately their record label & the death of their bassist ruined it for them. So sad considering they have an absolutely phenomenal songwriter & vocalist in Dax Riggs & they have fantastic musicians. You can't even get the album versions of their songs on UA-cam. But they have gone up on Spotify recently! If you can, you should react to them off of Spotify. Fascinating seeing Vin interpret some of the lyrics. We need more Acid Bath reactions!
Acid Bath wasn’t a big band at all. They had a strong cult following but as is the trend nowadays ; they’re more popular now that they aren’t a band anymore. Check out Dax’s solo music and his old band Deadboy And The Elephantmen.
@Vin and sori. Hey when you said they were big, Sammy Duet said on the does it doom podcast said that nobody cared about them when they were around. They got the love and respect AFTER they broke up. Way ahead of their time

Actually, Dax is a pretty soft spoken guy who has admitted that his lyrics are just random things they came up with while intoxicated. He is a very sweet and polite guy. They never did get big but each of the members have their own following (except Audie, of course). Dax grew up in a very strictly religious home and even went to Catholic school. Cut her throat and whisper that we're going home.. what's your favorite lyrics?
ok wow that’s so cool, i live in breaux bridge
You should do crowbar planets collide if you haven’t already
Crowbar would be a great one. I think they'd really dig it. December's Spawn would be an amazing track to listen to, as well.
'(Can't) Turn Away From Dying' by Crowbar is a monster track.
I was gonna say to build a mountain
Or to carry the load
Chase Mendenhall or all I had I gave or anything off their odd fellows rest album
One of the lyrics that stuck out to me came from the song Diab Soule from Pagan Terrorism Tactics when he said:
"I Understand...and don't care
'cuz the skyscrapers look like gravestones
yeah, from out here..."
Absolutely haunting every time I look at the Philly Skyline from where I live
My favorite fucking line ever!
After 911 that line took on a whole new meaning.
So glad that you guys did this one. If I have to pick one, the intro might make this my favorite Acid Bath song ever.
And it may be of interest to you, Vin, that apparently Acid Bath was one of Slipknot's favorite bands.
Out of curiosity, How come the tour didn't happen? Audie passing away or other reasons?
@@kerrisheets958 I don't recall the specific reasons clearly now--it was at least 7 or 8 years ago when we were hanging out pretty regularly. But my own assumption--and I think a fair one--is a combination of their record company's incompetence at promotion and management, and of course Audie's passing.
I didn't know that i love acid bath
Agreed! Both of those albums will always be in my playlists.
@Josh DaAcidBathFan Is this Jeff?
Never mind cuz I see that you're name is Josh and I thought you were addressing my name is Josh too plus my old school friend Jeff has the same profile pic as you, lol!
Ohhhhhh baby. Can’t wait for this one
I have loved acid bath like 25 yrs maybe.now into dax Riggs solo
THANK YOU for recognizing the beauty of Dax's poetry! He's easily my favourite modern poet, and I can't help but go over and over all his material.
You didn't pick the wrong one Vinny.
You did good man.
Do more, this is high art.
The best metal band to ever live
Scream of the Butterfly... the best Acid Bath song.
Again, suicide was the moniker.
no way really my fav
Acid bath is one of the greatest of all time. True Louisiana southern sludge doom.
I've been waiting for you guys to react to this for ages. Cheers to homeboy who got this on here!
The clown is one of john Wayne Gacy's, the serial killers, drawings
You did react to the song from that record
But the clown isnt like album art
They did Diäb Soulé from Paegan Terrorism Tactics.
@@Brotha_Teresa they did another one too but cant remember the name
Eatenbyghouls , you’re right. It was Toubabo Koomi from When the Kite String Pops.
Dax Riggs has a lot of solo stuff. Sleeping with the Witch I would love to see y'all do.
Seems they were playing with D.R.I. this show. What a show to be at. I still go see D.R.I. every time they come around, would love to see some reactions to them
Holy fuck that would be legendary, Acid Bath and D.R.I.
I got to see this tour in New Orleans....Bad ass!!!
This show was at a bingo parlor in south carolina. Idk if they were with d.r.i but ik they were with the spo-its
It's hard to find any good quality acid bath on UA-cam. Google music has all their songs.
I used to love Acid Bath. Still do.
My personal favorites are the slower darker songs
Like Venus Blue, New Death Sensation, Bleed Me An Ocean so many great songs.
This album was on UA-cam like 3 days ago but it got taken down pretty quick
@@16erectionist43 True. They come around every once and a while
Omg yes I was friends with the bassists son Audie when I was younger, hes grown now and has a son. One of my favorite bands ever the imagery this band paints in your head is wild. Yall definitely should do more acid bath in the future!
Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats - Mind Crawler video reaction
Had the pleasure of seeing them live, holy shit, goosebumps just talking about it. Even saw a a show after the bass player died.
Moonspell - Full Moon Madness
Acid bath was sadly a mostly unknown band outside of the south... super talented, and their music woulf be huge had it been released this past decade
SCREAM OF THE BUTTERFLY!!!!!!!
HERE 4 YEARS LATER AND GUESS WHAT?!?!?!? ACID BATH WILL REUNITE IN LAS VEGAS FOR ONE OF THE BIGGEST METAL SHOWS OF 2025. I WILL BE THERE AFTER THINKING THIS WAS IMPOSSIBLE.
Seen them many times … love the drummer.. they all rock💪💪
ACID. BATH. FUGGIN. RULLLLLLLLLLLLES!!!! Best band ever
Dax Riggs is the man. Cassie eats cockroaches is better IMO. Grave flower is solid too.
Their best song in my opinion (Cassie). Absolutely nothing else in metal sounds like it.
@@jameshitt3263 The breakdown is sick...
Cassie is just so fucking dark and evil sounding, especially the “DONT YOU FUCKING LOOK AT ME” part, it’s something else man
All of Acid Bath's music is available on spotify but on youtube they tend to get taken down
I can't believe you found acid bath! Wow. Awesome.
Scream of the Butterfly, Bones of Babydolls, Morticians Flame, and Cassie Eats Cockroaches
Everything dax touches is golden
You are right about the nervous tick he keeps his hand in his pocket to keep it under control he's a lyrical genius they are very much under ground you must here both there albums masterpieces
Acid Bath was such a Great band, unique sound and ahead of its time.
eighteen visions can learn from this band.
These guys were on the cusp of becoming something much bigger. Meant for so much more
One of the best bands to come out of my area back in the mid 90s.Saw them live at least 10 times such a rad band.
I agree. Acid Bath lyrics fit Vin’s analytical style perfectly
Acid Bath wasn’t a big band at all. They had a strong cult following but as is the trend nowadays ; they’re more popular now that they aren’t a band anymore. Check out Dax’s solo music and his old band Deadboy And The Elephantmen.
My favorite band
Acid Bath is insane brothers!!! Hi from Brazil 😁
Scream of the Butterfly
Venus Blue
This whole album ROCKS !!!
OMG YES!!!!!!
Holy shit, finally somebody . . . anybody reacts to an Acid Bath song!!!
@Vin and sori. Hey when you said they were big, Sammy Duet said on the does it doom podcast said that nobody cared about them when they were around. They got the love and respect AFTER they broke up. Way ahead of their time
Acid Bath - paegen love song!!
97.9 WCPR played this every night for 4 weeks straight, completely uncensored.
This song is beautiful the riffs the vocals the feelings put into the lyrics is so so fucking beautiful I love this song I wish the could have made a come back
YES YES YES YES YOU GUYS NEED TO DO THIS ENTIRE ALBUM, I THOUGHT TOUBABO KOOMI WAS A ONE OFF IM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW
Sammy Duet, the guitarist, is in Goatwhore. They are pretty awesome
Acid bath is a mix of grunge and death metal. Sludge
*doom and hardcore
Sludge is a fusion genre of Doom and Hardcore Punk, many bands drew a bit from grunge as well as Grunge was really popular at the time, but the genre is primarily doom with punk vocals and themes.
@@k0bra3eak40 he has that Seattle voice kind of like Alice but with death metal vocals. Defiantly not screamo emo core.
@@MRSludgedude have you listened to hardcore punk before, Black Flag's My War B Side is basically the precursor to the genre as a whole, Hardcore Punk is not screamo or emo and it's almost insulatingly ignorant
@@k0bra3eak40 yea black flag is cool. My buddy is freinds with Henry. They trade reptiles and amphibians. I dont consider that hardcore I guess. Wen I think hardcore I think of swooped gangs....hardcore verse then a castrated emo blink 182 chorus. Metal and punk went downhill in the mid 90s. Punk turned emo and grunge turned to nickelvack, metal got taken over by Preppy collage scene hipsters. After 2000 most sruff just sucks. I'll stick with crowbar, eltric wizard, Sabbath, alice in chains, melvins, down, soundgarden, nirvana, dax riggs, agents acid bath.
Sludge is technically a mix of doom metal and hardcore punk, though there is a grunge and slight death metal influence on most of their songs
I started revisiting these guys yesterday
My band Feid used to do gig's with these guys back and n 93 - 94 these guys were the most talked about band in the Gulf coast community. From Texas to Florida . Back then they were an awesome original band.super influenced band from Houma LA.
They weren't around long to get a massive fallowing. Imo they got more popular AFTER they broke up. And this was on my fav songs.. Cassie eats cockroaches is my top fav. Named my cat cassie after it.. Who Infact,. Ate cockroaches lmao! True story
Good song and reaction.
Acid bath is king
In high school when I discovered AB an they been in my top 3 fav bands ever since good video
Yeah the best way to really hear Acid Bath's music is with a live performance recorded on a toaster from the 90's
I always felt like this band was his way of lashing out at that
Acid bath......this band is outrageous. Butterfly.......
