as someone that plans to get into Modern (currently play pioneer) would you say this is a good deck to get started with?

My lifehack for magic is always draw the cards you need. I literally won tournaments with that!

I proxied and playtested the version that went 5-0 just a couple of days ago, but I like your take on it much more. It felt like the land count was low and the lack of more lords also felt bad. A couple of games would have won if I just drew another islandwalk lord, so I like that you put in 2 Lord of Atlantis. Flare mb was nice, but I think it's smarter to move it to sb and make the mb plan to be more aggro/tempo. Every game I had bolt and flame of anor early, those games felt so great. Past versions of merfolk have always lacked board interaction, and this version finally shores up that weakness. I think UR is at worst, a 2nd competitive option to the standard mono blue with dismember, and at best, might be the best version of merfolk moving forward.
    Thanks for the insight mengu!

Could you do Phoenix in modern? It's gotten some new cards that are pretty nice :)

1:08:35 grief was a good deck in legacy for a long time but was not a big problem
the reason why people realy want a ban now is not scam. Oops! All Spells that got two powerfull new MDFC that give the deck a lot of black pitch cards giving the deck access to grief
making what use to be a all in deck safe because it can grief you to protect there combo making them realy consitent especialy on the play.
and lets be honest what else can you ban form the deck without killing the deck or some other deck
( I would personnaly ban Thassa's Oracle but that because am tierd of it and its the finisher of most combo deck which I find boring)

Why was that hand a trap @46:15? It looked like a very playable hand.

do you think otawara has any place still? in an especially painful mana base or bc it’s uncounted able?

Not relating to Merfolk, but what do you think of "Defabricate"? 2 mana, 2 Modes. First is that it counters and exiles Artifacts/Enchantments, and second which is why I'm bringing it up. It can counter triggered and activated abilities. I know you wanted Stifle to be reprinted into Modern (which I think would not be fun), but this is a maybe playable stifle. So probably only good against Artifacts/Enchantments or if you're going first to counter your opponent's second land/their fetch. Though a lot of people wait to crack their fetch until their opponent's end step anyways if they don't have a sorcery speed 2 drop.
The only 2 mana stifles I'm aware of in modern are: Repudiate // Replicate - 2cmc Stifle or 3cmc Clone, Tale's End - Stifle or Legend counter (which might be good enough with Nadu and Phlage), Trickbind - Split Second Stifle, Squelch - Counter only activated ability and draw 1, and Defabricate - Artifact/Enchantment exile counter/stifle.
Except for Replicate these all work with cost reductors, though I doubt that's actually good since you want to counter their fetches before they get mana. So unless you turn 1 Ugin's Lab into Sapphire Med turn 1 and island turn 2 I doubt that would be good, and even then it still only sets you up for turn 2 stifle, just with 2 extra colorless.

I was looking forward to build a UR modern deck but I don't know which deck should I buy. I really like murktide but after seeing your mh3 videos maybe ur wizards or ur merfolk are better decks after all. Any advice?

Why not still play one copy of Otawara, Soaring City? I see little downside.

Why not just play remand instead of sink into stupor,it interacts on the stack, it costs less, is less mana intensive and draws you a card?
