I agree with you to a point that Prince was really the only one who could pull off his fashion style. However, it wasn't that nobody tried or thought they could pull off his style Cuz, many did try by dressing to the nine's like Prince, along with the fashion styles other music artists were wearing back in the day, my friend's. In relation to Prince there was a clothing store in most malls called the Merry Go Round in the '80's. And in '84/'85 the store exclusively carried the clothing collection made by Prince named "Purple Wear." If I remember right the store sold the complete black outfit Prince wore in the movie Purple Rain on his motorcycle with Apollonia. They also sold the white ruffled button down shirt as well as his iconic purple velvet studded long coat. Prince was no different than a few other music artists fashion styles people wore back in the '80's. Like the red plethora zipper jacket MJ wore or his rhinestone glove & socks. Not to mention all the dude's who looked like chicks that used more hair spray then most girls. And let's not forget all the girls in HS who tried their hardest to imitate & look like either Madonna or Pat Benatar. We definitely rolled in a different way back then compared to now for sure. Just saying... ++Peace & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Soul My Friends++ 🤘😜🤘

I am going to address the elephant in the room. Aside from being a huge Prince fan due to his musical genius, I appreciate the fact that this man genuinely loved women, could wear makeup and still get any woman in the room and never had any impropriety or scandal follow him around despite being openly a very sexual human being. Prince was secure in physical appearance, his talent and manhood and it showed. Prince wrote all his own music and very often played every instrument on his songs, which in and of itself is phenomenal. The comparison between Prince and MJ is the epitome of apples and oranges.

The issue of Prince vs MJ was mostly that MJ's music was more palatible to kids, whereas Prince mostly made music for himself and by extension it was more for the adults than kids, for whom the music went over their heads figuratively-speaking. I think if you look at both as an adult, the answer is clear, but childhood nostalgia is a powerful thing. I'll never forget being at a roller rink watching Thriller for the first time on a small movie-theater style screen while we all rolled around on the rink. But at the same time, as an adult, it's pretty obvious that Prince is the best. As Stevie Wonder said: "If Michael Jackson is the King of Pop, then Prince is the Emperor."

@@maryanndavis8284 Well, I wasn’t sure so I looked it up. I was kind of shocked. Prince came up with the music & sent it to Stevie Nicks to write the lyrics because it was supposed to be a country song at first. Stevie Nicks said she was so overwhelmed by the music that she didn’t feel she could write lyrics. So Prince played it at the end of a practice session & 19yo Wendy picked up a guitar & plucked a few chords & that’s how the current version originated. Prince is credited with the lyrics while Wendy is credited with the opening chords & setting the original tone for the song. I tried to get that from several sources. I haven’t seen the movie in a couple of decades but I believe the 2 females were given credit in the movie for writing the song. Thanks for the reply. I enjoy learning new things.

You guys did the right thing. Asking for others opinions. Just because that question has been asked a MILLION times. And for those commenting on Michael’s “ Sexual Scandal”. This question isn’t about “ scandals” that followed either of them. Some people, mostly MJ fans, react harshly, or with lots of anger when that’s brought up. They also then point a finger at Prince, and throw his sexuality into faces of MJ critics. The FACTS are MJ was considered to be the “ King of Pop/rock”. And Prince was considered to be a “ Musical Genius”. My own opinion, being a HUGE ACDC FAN, is Prince was more than a musical genius. He was a musical Prodigy. Who spent his life acquiring knowledge of music, and mastering more than 25 instruments. I think they both died horribly early. And both had so much more to give. So how bout we just end the “ Who’s greater” question and just love them equally for what they both left the world. Princes sex life has no part in what he gave us, and MJ’s sex and personal life does not either. They are just weapons to be used by people who hate instead of love. So don’t be haters, learn to love more. Appreciate what each artist brought to the people who loved them!! And still do to this very day! That’s the gift they gave us. USE IT!!💙

I think someone already kinda mentioned this, but the guitar solo you are talking about is from the 2004 Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony performance of The Beatles' "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", in tribute to George Harrison, who was being posthumously inducted as a solo artist that year. Prince was also being inducted that same year. And yes, it was a great, mind-blowing solo for sure, but - and take this from a Prince fan of over 40 years, who was lucky enough to see him in concert 5 times - he played solos equal to, and far more impressive than that one, night after night, in arenas all around the world, for 35+ years. Even at rehearsals and soundchecks. He could play that kind of solo in his sleep. Talent and music flowed from him like water. It looked effortless, although it would be a disservice to him to call it that, because he spent countless hours (and his entire life, really) honing his craft And, while I understand the instinct to compare Prince and Michael Jackson, it really makes no sense. Other than them both being African-American and having the commercial peaks of their careers around the same time, they have hardly anything in common, musically or otherwise. This is not a slight to MJ in any way, but Prince was a serious, overwhelmingly talented musician in just about every way you can imagine. Michael Jackson was a performer. An amazingly gifted one, to be sure, but it's beyond comparing apples to oranges, it's more like comparing apples to lightsabers. Not much in common. Keep digging into Prince's catalog - you have much to discover!

Prince was overall much more talented than Michael, he played 20+ instruemtns, had an incredible voice, could dance his ass off, produced his music and others, wrote all his songs and many other hits for other stars...he was a true, multi-talented legend. Prince came across as more than a little weird earlier in his career, when he cross-dressed and sang more or less exclusively about sex, in a hyper-sexualised way. But by Purple Rain, (and the album before it), he had switched it up and presented himself and the band as a cutting edge New Wave band, at least in terms of fashion. Meaning yes, they looked very cool at the time. He was aiming for an MJ-sized crossover and reached it with Purple Rain - the movie and the album. (Then he quickly abandoned it and did whatever he felt like for the rest of his career).
This is a scene towards the end of the movie, and I think you have to watch it to fully appreciate the powerful effect this song had on the audience. As a semi-autobiographical rock’n’roll movie it still holds up - it’s how Prince was finally presented to households all over the world. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed - the live show scenes alone are worth the price of admission.

Prince and MJ shouldn't be compared. They were two different artists with different agendas. MJ's goal was always sales. If he had an album sell 10 million copies, he wanted the next one to sell 15 million. That makes sense when you consider that Barry Gordy, who was first and foremost a businessman, was his mentor. MJ would wait 3 to 5 years between albums. He did this because he wanted to build anticipation which would inevitably result in more sales. Prince's goal was always his music and his artistic expression. This makes sense when you consider that his father was a jazz pianist and his mother was a lounge singer. He wanted to get his music out there as soon as he created it. This can be seen in the fact that he released 39 studio albums in a 38 year career, and some of those were double and triple albums. He also wrote and composed several albums for other artists. Yes, sales were important to him, but only in so much as they provided enough money to allow him to continue to make music. He knew some of his albums wouldn't sell as well, but he went where the inspiration took him. This is why he has an acoustic album (The Truth) and a 4 song jazz instrumental album (N.E.W.S.).

Prince and MJ are the best in their own right.
MJ will forever be the "King of Pop" and Prince.... well, he was the best at the kind of music he played.
Besides ALL the music for the movie Purple Rain, he also performed most, if not all the music for the movie "Batman" starring Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholson, and Kim Basinger.
Prince always had a thing for the color purple and his attire was questionable to say the least, but blended well with the type of person he was.
It's like.... once you get to know him, you forget about what he's wearing because it's just "him".
Prince and the revolution later became just "Prince", and then later he changed his name to a symbol and called it "He".
May I interst you in a reaction to a Finnish band named Nightwish?
Ghost Love Score, live at the Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany 2013.
    ua-cam.com/video/JYjIlHWBAVo/v-deo.htmlsi=ncuGEJ3y4biNIPDM
This reaction will call upon the Nightwish Army and you will be welcomed with open arms.
Thank you for the video, reaction and comments. Stay safe and stay blessed.
    😊❤️🤘🤘

Back in the early 80’s there was a “New Romantic” vibe where the ruffle shirt worked, for some. Prince, Adam Ant, Duran Duran, a few could pull it off. It took balls and we loved them for it.

As much as media liked to pit MJ and Prince against each other - and they both enjoyed the competition - it’s like apples and oranges for me. MJ wanted to be the greatest pop star of all time, and he achieved it, through prodigious talent and hard work. Prince was more like the ultimate musician, the complete package: Multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, arranger, producer, bandleader, businessman, innovator, advocate for artist’s rights. Throughout his career he nurtured protegés and talented musicians he came across. The man lived and breathed music 24/7.
They operated in different disciplines, and became the GOAT in their respective field. Michael was all about pop. Prince was all about music as a whole. Michael was an obsessed stickler for detail. Prince famously wanted to record as fast as possible and move on to the next one. (And it shows in the volume of their output).
In some ways they were of course very similar: They both inhabited the music they created in a way very few are able to. And to state the obvious, they were both black artists who yearned and succeeded to cross over in record-breaking ways. In a time when that was still unheard of.
After both had passed, it was revealed that they were a lot friendlier than was publicly known - they apparently even hung out sometimes. Also, remember that although they were the same age, Prince would have grown up listening to Jackson 5…
Which one you prefer though, is obviously up to you. There’s no correct answer to that one.

Prince was a better all-around musician and performer. And he wrote a far greater percentage of of the songs he performed than Michael could claim. And had far more control of the overall sound of his material than Michael had.

This was from the film Purple Rain (it is what the film basically leads up to.) If you want to see an astounding guitar solo by him check out his cover of While My Guitar Gently Weeps (and yes w/love to see your reaction to that with Prince, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne and Steve Winwood). I don't want to sound like a "hater" but in answer to your question of who we like better (him or mj) - my vote is for Prince. He taught himself how to play the guitar when he was a child.

MJ was in music business since and famous in his 5 years of age Prince was started as known not famous at his 18th. Prince surpassed MJ in 1984-1985. So who did the most difficult thing to reach the top. its Prince. No further comments do the maths

I get why people want to believe there needs to be an MJ vs. Prince war decades later, but it really was possible to be a HUGE fan of both at the same time. I saw MJ in concert for the first time when I was 4 years old (he was 12-13 in the Jackson 5), and then a few more times through the 70’s and early 80’s. I saw Prince the first time at 16 (and got my first contact high; my ears were also ringing for two days after that show lol). I had front row center seats at Dodger Stadium for the Jackson's Victory Tour (I caught the shirt MJ ripped off Randy when he threw it into the audience; I still have it). And then I saw Prince's Purple Rain concert 6 times about two months later. I also flew home from college in TN to L.A. TWICE to see the last two dates of MJ's Bad Tour (he got sick in November and the shows were rescheduled for January). My point? They certainly were pitted against each other by some people at the time, but those of us who just loved their music and performances never felt the need to choose a favorite… so you don’t have to pick a side either. Just appreciate them both for sharing their unique gifts with the world so that future generations can always enjoy them.

Genius! This song takes you to church. His guitar playing is incredible. The lyrics are outstanding. He lulls you into this song, takes you to the Heavens and softly brings you back down. It is surreal.
This is from the movie PURPLE RAIN. The whole soundtrack is Prince & the Revolution about a struggling singer/songwriter and his band and how they overcome adversity to make crazy good music. While not a biopic. It had elements of his life, but wasn't fully about him. Check the movie out.
As for the outfit. Prince could get away with this. While some may have attempted it out at clubs, it was not something most people could pull off. Adam Ant and some other artists of the era, known as New Romantic also dressed like this to a degree.
Prince & MJ are totally different in their styles so it isn't a fair comparison. Prince is without a doubt musically more talented. He can play many instruments and his writing is excellent. Michael was a pop star. His talent in entertaining was without a doubt some of the best performances one could see. He was also a very good writer. I would not even begin to say one is better. They are uniquely different and icons in their own way.

Hi guys...New Subscriber...and yes a female former Army Officer...(Hence Veteran on UA-cam LOL)...I idolised both MJ and Prince...and still DO (R.I.P Superstars & thankyou SO SO much for the joy and happiness your "Craft" brought and continues to bring us with your remarkable and EPIC Songs 😢🫂💙🙌🙏xx). For me, BOTH were Masters of their Craft and both outstanding performers...but without a doubt, Prince was the most talented and unique out of the pair...and it never ceases to astound me just how much of an underrated guitar GENIUS really was !! (He's RIGHT "up there" as one of the greatest one EVER !!) I truly believe that Prince DID as PRINCE wanted...and was way more independant when it came to his musical career...and what i MEAN by that is...He didn't ever want to be MANAGED or controlled...I guess because he insisted on being HIMSELF in every way possible...and being SO super talented, gifted and unique,I feel that Prince just never needed or wanted ANY kind of control being in anyone's hands BUT his own but i never felt that way about MJ..I feel like HE heavily and readily needed managing and have support...I think MJ more than deserved his status being a SUPERSTAR, but nowhere remotely close to being as talented, giifted and bespoke as Prince...I will be eternally grateful to BOTH, who are now in Heaven, for the legacy they left down here on this Gods' Earth...Great reaction..So thankyou & much respect from me to you both.🪖🫂🙏.

You're correct about the vid giving out a "movie type" feel because that's exactly where most of the movie came from. But, I gotta say throw my hat in the ring for Prince being one BADAS* guitarist and one of the very best ever. Wholly underrated to the point that it should've been a crime. C'mon, the dude could absolutely STOOPID shred. But, this cut is arguably the BEST ballad to come out of the 80's. That being said, my personal favorite is the song "It's Only Heaven" by the band Hurricane. Also, Kix's "Don't Close Your Eyes" comes in as a very close second. But, both are definitely worth a que up...

I was born the same year as both Prince and Michael so they are clearly my contemporaries. Loved them both but felt more connected to Prince.
They both had rough humble childhoods and upbringings. Prince left home @ 14 Michael was under strict control and family religious beliefs raised (JW)for most of his life but lost control because of lack of life experience. Prince’s daring dance jumps caused serious damage to his hips and he refused surgery because of his religious beliefs converted (JW) about blood transfusions. He opted for pain meds which caused his demise.

Lol Please react to his RR Hall of Fame performance of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” I was a teenager in the 80s and the MJ/Prince comparison is like apples and Volkswagens. Been a Prince fan since his first album Dirty Mind where he was usually dressed in women's panties and stockings. Compared to that, Purple Rain's costumes were tame. I remember seeing him late one Friday night on TV playing his debut hit Dirty Mind and I liked the song but thought he was really weird. Didn't see much of him on TV until he Purple Rain album came out and became a hugh fan. The wife and I saw him twice in concert and Yes he is the GOAT when compared to Michael Jackson (who I'm remotely related to). To see Prince in his youth before hip replacements and to see him dance on stage was so exciting. He didn't need a bunch of dancers around him until later in life, he was enough by himself and the band. His musicianship is still unmatched in my opinion as well.

Dirty Mind was his 3rd album. Not counting his works with his high school band called Grand Central, or 94 East after he left the high school band to do guest guitar work while he worked on putting together his own album, For You. His 2nd album was self-titled and called Prince. Dirty Mind was the next one and this is when he started to get really known from having toured as the opening act for Rick James. He opened for the Rolling Stones but it was not a popular choice with many of the Rolling Stones fans. Prince went home, collected himself, and went back out again ready to ignore the haters and do his own thing no matter what.
