The opening message to this video are words to live by. This world beat me down to my lowest low in January ‘17 when I lost my oldest boy to suicide. I had to make the decision to live my best life for him and for me. I don’t succeed every day. But I do try. Love the positivity here. Need it. Love the axes too. Mine are part of the therapy of every day. Thanks.

Tips, instruction, demonstrations, action, and a bit of humor is what you give us in every video. You owned that job with just an axe. Using the power saw to cut it in sections for chopping into firewood. Every video you post is a Buckin Special in my opinion. You're the real deal and we're lucky to have you sharing your knowledge and experience with us. Welcome new subscribers! We're happy you're here. Remember to be kind to everyone as everyone deserves our kindness. What they choose to do with it is up to them. Hope you all have a great day!

Hell I don’t even go to the gym. I just go pay in the yard. Split wood, move things around and just work. It’s free, keeps me health, makes my home better, and makes me happy. You get to see the work you did, the results are worth it as you can to say to yourself I did that. And nobody can take that away from you. Pride is where it’s at.

A tree a day keeps the love handles away! You hit the woodsman’s gym hard today Buckin! That was a beautiful thing :) I could tell how happy that made you. Looked like a little kid having the time of his life. I adored this video. Also, that axe is perfect! Those short handles are my favorite these days. Love you all. Let’s talk, always makes my day when someone takes the time to chat in comments.

Buckin, thank you for this video! My family and I are camping in Petit Jean State Park this weekend and my grandson crawled up in my lap to watch this with me. He said to me, “Pop let’s go chop us a tree down”, kinda made me nervous, he started eyeballin these 100’ pines here in camp 🤣. I gave him his first axe a few months ago and all he talks about is choppin! I love it! He’s the little guy in my profile pic. Thank you sir, once again you have put a smile on this old hillbillies face😊. And yes swingin anything with a head on it is a great work out! Gets the heart to thumpin!

Anyone notice he was NOT wearing gloves the entire time he was swinging those axes. Sign of a true working man. If I tried to do that today I would have ended up with bloody nubs before finishing the first tree, I got blisters just watching. Even when I was a ten foot tall and bulletproof teenager 35 years ago I would have only gotten through 1 tree before the blisters started popping up. Did it one time when I was 17, and Billy Ray you are correct, it is truly a spiritual as well as physical experience chopping down a tree then splitting the wood. I felt better afterwards than I had ever felt. Of course it didn't hurt that I was trying to impress my girlfriend.

Buckin , I chop wood like you... double bit in a pile and swing away... The axe is beautiful We had one of these growing up and I have been looking for a head like it but have not found one recently. My father was a teacher and we would spend our summers out in the woods getting firewood put away for the winter. Many hours swinging an axe and working side by side with my dad... some of my favorite memories. Keep the chips flying!

When someone becomes so proficient in a skill or trade that the basic movement, if possibly harmful, can cause injury - they should attempt to pay close attention to their actions. Buckin' has transcended that limitation in a way that is so spectacular it makes you want to hone your craft like a master, which he is. Determination, grit and resolve that's all it takes, but it is everything allowable.

You know Buckin I was going to text you this morning but we got busy. I found your opening message in this segment particularly timely. After our talk on Sunday about the Axes for Mac and I the week changed dramatically.
For those that don't know, my daughter likes to train in a fighting style called Krav Maga. Its a fierce fighting style and it is a great way to stay in shape. Monday night, after talkin to Buckin' I got a call while on a business trip that my daughter had an accident at Krav and it turns out she busted up her elbow pretty bad. The net is that I ended my trip that night and flew home in the morning. The next day, Kate had surgery on her elbow that was supposed to be about 3 hours ended up being 7 and a half. She's got a lot of rehab to go through and it will be a journey.
The reason I bring this up is that I'm at peace. I'm sad for Kate beyond measure and I'd trade with her if I could; what dad wouldn't? I'm not angry at the person she fought with cause it is part of the game. For all of us this is the game of life and we "choose" how we go through it. I thought the opening was appropriate. "CHOICE" We all make them and it's more about how we deal with them and the consequences that DEFINES US.
    Great message my friend, thanks.
As far as the Axe goes ... AWESOME is not quite enough. The personal touch is appreciated :) Can't wait to get out there with Mac and get some limbing and chopping done.
    Thanks brother.

    • @seff2318

Matt Hogstrom, so sorry to hear about your daughter! I know how easy it is to get injured in martial arts. I did Jeet Kune Do and boxing for the majority of my life and it took a toll on my body. Saying Krav Maga is a brutal fighting style doesn’t do it justice. It makes me truly happy to see a father like yourself so involved in their kids life. I would’ve given my right arm for dad like you when I was growing up. By the way that axe is going to be perfect. I cut wood every day because I’m training for timbersports and I can tell you without a doubt that axe is exactly what the doctor ordered 😉 Buckin put some special touches on this one I’ve never seen from him. I hope Kate convalesces quickly so y’all can get out there and heal even more in the woodsman’s gym. You might be raising yourself lumberjill! Be kind!

Nice axe. I've read that double bit axes, despite looking cool and seeming suitable, were never actually used in medieval combat because apparently the great weight of the axe head would cause any missed swings to throw the wielder off-balance. But it sure looks fun to use on those trees!

One summer, I had inherited an old double bit axe from my Grandfather. I figured I wanted to cut down a tree with it, so my dad had a tree that needed to come down. I took a couple of swings with the axe and got some big chunks of wood out, so I thought it would go easy. 45 minutes later, my dad asked if I wanted to use the chainsaw. I was upset by then and declined, determined to finish this with the axe. I finally got it notched the way I wanted and cut the backside. It did drop where I wanted it to, but I was soaked with sweat, as it was summer and hot and humid. But I got 'er done. Oh, it was an old Locust tree. Never chopped another one down with the axe. After watching you, I might try a fir, or other pine, but no more of that locust.

Yes you have a choice on being happy or not. It seems simple, but think about it. I can think of the bad or the good in life. I had a tough job that required 12 hours of driving every day. It was very tough to be by myself and negative thoughts flowing. I finally decided I would not think of the horrible bad thoughts. It was that simple. I also used to think of how "bad" it was that day and drive by a dead animal in the road. I would tell myself "it's not THAT bad". That one(animal) did have a bad day. I also before I go to sleep thank the Lord for a great day(no matter what happened). I ask for another tomorrow . It's that simple. It works. Look for the good. Be nice to others.

Just got onto your channel past couple days, Buckin. I personally just have started my journey in the tree business, and I'm loving your videos. Even to a complete novice such as myself, your skill and knowledge is awe inspiring. Keep on keepin on bud. Great to see a fellow Canuck representing us all so well on the tube.

Worked airplanes for a long time, and every time one of those old girls cut me, I left a bloody thumbprint on it. Gotta sign your work.

I like how you let the head do the work. Your enthusiasm is commendable. I agree the axe is our way. Although nothing at all compared to your productions and editing skills, check out my feeble axe videos.

BFD Adventure first time I’ve seen you in the comments! I hope you’re doing well. Like I said before everyone gots their own way of using an axe. Buckin has been doin this since he was a kid. So interesting to see someone who’s so proficient on a saw approach felling trees with an axe. Take care buddy! Be Kind :)

That’s pretty cool 😎 casual observation here. But the trees even fall different. But thank for god Stihl and Husky. And oh ok we’ll add some Yellow to this too 😜 Everyone have a great weekend!

Buckin' - thank you for EVERYTHING, including sharing that gash on your finger. After watching and being inspired by your vids, I picked up two double bit axes at a yard sale for a dollar apiece. I just finished restoring and rehafting them, and I managed to bloody my fingers multiple places between the time I got 'em sharpened and getting the new handles on. Sorry you got cut, but I was relieved to find that my wounds are a hazard of the trade and not merely a rookie's incompetence. File-sharpened bits. They cut, eh?

Thanks everyone for your encouragement. I showed Kate your comments and she was stoked; you put a smile on her face. She’s home from the hospital, all her Krav friends came over (after spending two days at the hospital taboot). The community of lovin’ and caring for each other is alive in a real honest way. Buckin, she loved the intro and thought you putting your personal mark on the axe was a nice touch. Can’t wait to see it buddy. Thanks again all.
