I got hired within 3 days of being interviewed. I resigned within 3 days (2.5 days to be exact) because I felt the role was not a good fit and I was literally not sleeping due to pressure and anxiety, because the job description and role was totally different from what was advertised, I just found out the job was too complex, way complex for me, after a day. I felt sad because the manager is nice, but also relieved that I got out quickly.

First of all. I'm so sorry to hear that. Must be super stressful! How you're doing OK still and can focus on what's next.
This is also exactly my point. A business will never second guess having to lay an employee off. Managers may do everything they can to keep you by finding another role. But that's it. So always look to your own interests first.

2 months into my job and it’s tiring to know they shifted heavy workload on a newbie as myself. As a fresh graduate I understand I need to learn but they’ve been expecting me to know things with bare min training or shadowing other colleagues/managers. On top of that, the managers are quite passive aggressive when I ask for clarification & I have let my supervisor know letting me handle this workload so soon might not be best.

    • @JohanPeterssonTV
      @JohanPeterssonTV  2 роки тому +10

This is all too common unfortunately. Stretching yourself is good for growth but to much of a stretch becomes stressful and unproductive.
Your taking the right approach though by having an open conversation with your manager, setting expectations, goals and managing workload.

@@RockeiraForEver14 hi bestie! I’ve quit 2 weeks ago!! Honestly I can’t believe I stayed 4 months. It was so toxic & the managers kept getting worse to the point that they don’t even spare the time to look at me when answering questions. I quit without any job offers & thought whatever, wouldn’t stay even if I had to be jobless the next few weeks or month. A company approached me not long ago via LinkedIn & they pay 20% higher w/ better benefits! Tbh, if it’s too much and not worth your time, just quit. There’s always better opportunities.

Thank you for your blatant reminder that a health-first approach carries no shame.
In fact putting your health and wellness first demonstrates self respect and self compassion.
As someone who served in the U.S. military, it is especially difficult for me to withdraw from commitments that may seem to cause negative impacts on others; however, layoff experiences have proven how quickly a company dismisses employee loyalty.
I wish you all a well-made decision that empowers your next endeavor and gives you quality sleep.

People don't quit jobs, they quit their bosses. I once had a job where the guy the boss was targeting was my trainer. He told me to always watch my back with the boss and her buddies in upper management. Another coworker vouched for him. One day the guy vanished and we get an email from the dept director to deactivate everything pertaining to this guy.
On the Friday when the pay period was over, I clocked out for the day and never went back.

My issue witb the "feeling bad for the company" is that I don't feel bad for the company but for my supervisor. They've spent months training me, and I'm still not even fully trained. So, I just know me quitting is making their life so much harder and I feel guilty that I've just played them. They've spent months training me and it's all for nothing now. Also, my job is one where I carry a case load of clients, so quitting is so much harder for me since it's not like I can easily go. Me leaving guarantees all my co-workers jobs get harder since my cases will get dumped on them.
I need to quit since I'm going to grad school, but I feel trapped. I guess I just gotta pull the band aid off...

Switched to a new job where I wanted to learn new things and to get a higher salary. The salary I got in hbe end was smaller I hoped but manager said after few months we can see could if it be brought up to my original desire or even higher perhaps depending how well I was doing. Sounded great!
In the new job however the orientation due to personell shortages (people leaving) my orientation was a bit of a disaster and it produced so much stress I began to have heart/chest pains. Never had them before this job and I do feel like I got rushed into things far too early. No hope of it changing from the look of things as I already talked with my manager and in the end got told off for poor performance.
I think resigning and calling it quits is the right choice and you went over things pretty well, especially number one thing being to take care of myself first. Never resigned so quickly from a job before but this happens. Wont be fun or easy but I think its the right choice. Thanks for the video, it was pretty good and made sense.

One benefit of leaving a job you hate quickly is that you can leave the job off your resume. If you kept a low profile, did not put it on your Linked In page, and didn't tell many people about it, no one needs to know, and no one is going to question a 2 - 4 month resume gap. If they do ask, say you took some time off/spent time with family/took a vacation. No, it's not honest, but it eliminates the need to explain in new interviews. Though I've never left a job after such a short time, I know people who worked with me at really toxic workplaces who realized their error, left just a month or two into the job, and never looked back.

Thanks for sharing this video! This is so relatable. I resigned during my probation period. I was working in my previous company for 5 years. As time goes by, I realised that there was not much career progression/development opportunities in my role. Hence, I took a leap of faith and went to search for other job opportunities. When I chanced upon this new job in a different sector, I was delighted because the base pay was pretty good. When I started the 'intensive' training during probation period, I experienced a 'shift shock'. Or should I say, a work culture shock because the work pace is so different from my previous workplace, and it was fast to a point where I felt overwhelmed and disconnected when coping with my work. Thats when I realised that it was a poor job fit. In addition, my health took a toll as well.
My mind and body were forcing me to resign from my job and take a break 😢
Looking back, I shouldn't have solely used money as a criterion, but to understand my areas of work interest, skill sets, strengths and weaknesses better before I pursue Or take up any job offer.

I just started a job as a call center csr, been with it for almost a month now. This past week I found out the hard way what this job really is, & it's made me depressed and stressed out for the past week. Everything inside me is telling me to leave, but I took the job cuz it's fulltime pay with fulltime benefits, tho I'm starting to ? if it's worth it. They gave us a brief training period, but given the amount of info we have to process all at once while on a call...it's not enough! To put it simply, this job is not what I expected & it's already taking a toll on my mental health.
I worked a retail job for 7 yrs before this, I really loved it. It was a small team, great customers, the atmosphere was great & it was in something I was passionate about. I left them on good terms when I went for the new job. I'm sure I could get rehired at my old job if nothing else, tho I'd like to try & find something else first. I have to force myself to walk in the building at my new job. I'm so torn! What should I do? Should I quit the new job now?

I just quit my job 1 month after being hired. Initially, I attributed my feelings of anxiety to "growing pains" but I looked at my previous journal entries and realized that my anxiety constantly got worse and worse.
For me, I had 3 main reasons for quitting. 1) Lack of proper training, 2) not liking the job, and 3) being a terrible fit for the team. 2&3 can't be fixed, but I even felt the lack of proper training couldn't be fixed because the people who trained me are simply uninterested in training me.
As I currently reflect on my choice, I thought that if I brought up the issue of training with my manager, I would've done better; however, I realize that the most recent hires on my team have emphasized that there is a strong lack of training which tells me that is not a problem that could've been fixed with me.
Being said, you'll simply know when you want to quit. For me, that feeling of wanting to quit just hit me; however, it was a culmination of several things that eventually piled up and got sent over the edge. The final straw was finding out I was misled about my benefits by the internal recruiter and HR not doing anything about it (in writing, she told me I would get 26 vacation days but it was actually 16)

Onboarding is incredibly important and it's puzzling how so many companies are still so bad at it. Not only will onboarding leave employees happier, it will also make them fully productive faster. So it's win/win.
Yes, we have to remember HR still always do what's best for the company.

Your comment hit every aspect which I'm living through at the moment. Two days ago I finally just accepted the fact things are just not working out. As soon as I accepted that, I felt 1000x better. While feeling some-what liberated, I also feel disappointed (naturally). However, you can only take it for so long. Much like yourself, I don't ever recall "growing pains" being like this. I have spent the past 6 weeks, day in and out, analyzing my thoughts and trying to understand the root causes. Through this process of analyzing, my initial thoughts were very emotional. However, I have finally gotten to a point where I've extracted (1) the issue, (2) attempted solutions, (3) the outcome and (4) how it affects me. I have laid this out in a excel document which now provides an easy and constructive visual. All being said, Monday morning next week should be interesting 😅. I'm just glad I know it's over.

This is exactly how I'm feeling right now. Maybe it was due to my overly stressful internship experience, but my current job is just too relaxed. There is no plan for me beyond "finish this one project we assigned to you". Not to mention there is little to no training or briefing, I've been here for a month and I'm still clueless on what my job purpose is. Of course I expect to finish the project before I leave, but I've been at my current job for a month and the lack of a roadmap for my future scares me. Thankfully, another job offer came for me just in time to save me from all this mess. The new job's benefits isn't as great as my current one, and it's for a contractor position rather than my current permanent position, but it's a risk I'm willing to take. It's a leap of faith.

I am in my 6th month with my company but 1st month in a new department. One that i thought i really wanted to be in as i am a fresh grad who wants to learn about this department.
The work itself is not hard but having watched how my boss treats my colleagues and hearing things from other colleagues had made my existing mental health issues even worse.
I make small mistakes and am constantly afraid. Even though my boss is mostly nice to me now i cant trust that she will always be nice.
My anxiety almost disappeared when i made up my mind to leave but i am still scared because i assured my boss that this was what i wanted to do when i initially applied for a job here.
I am also worried that i am throwing an opportunity away because im not strong enough.
But im refusing to blame myself.
If it isnt a good fit... it isnt. Thank you so much.

I started a job yesterday and it seems amazing, people are nice and are eager to help me. However I’ve come to realize I don’t think I can handle work when school starts. They said they will 100% work around my schedule, I’m only working 8 hours a week when school starts. However I still feel like I won’t be able to handle it. I’m so stressed and filled with anxiety thinking about it, I can barely handle just going to school mentally . I want to call them first thing tomorrow and tell them I don’t think I can handle any work at all during school and that I misjudged my situation. I feel so awful though because they were so nice and the fact they chose me over anyone else. Plus I already worked a day and met everyone. I literally want to die thinking about all this lol. I guess if I feel so strongly anxious wise about working and going to school- I shouldn’t do it. It’s just also hard bc my fam is struggling and I’d like to help, but I just don’t know if I can sacrifice my fragile mental health for it. Anyways, wish me luck. First of all these are normal feelings. Think of you first though, you only have one life. Also think of the company as a legal entity and not of the people who work there. If the company had to downsize, it wouldn't have these feelings of hesitation and empathy.
So if you can't handle it. Let them know. Also let them know you'll help make the transition as good as possible.

My reasons for quitting was because I realized I was too desperate to find a job, it wasn't what I wanted and the hours we're more than what I told them I could work and they gave me the worst shifts that I knew I couldn't go to. Yesterday I told them on the phone that I would be resigning my position. I do have some money saved up but I'll be on the hiring process again and I really do not want to go back to my old job that I had for 6 years because they truly went downhill to the point it was affecting my mental health. I should have saw it as a red flag when they told me that the stocking and cashiering position was closed. First I was told it would be night time and then I was told the next interview that it would be whenever we need you. I knew that if I went through with the schedule that they gave me which would have started on sunday, I knew that I would be overworked and overwhelmed..... For now on I'm going to find jobs that I want and if they don't fit what I want I will just thank the interviewer for their time but the one position they want me as is not a good fit for me and leave.

@JohanPeterssonTV I called to tell them that I would have to decline the offer but I guess a co-worker answered and she said that she'll tell the boss so I didn't leave them hanging. It should go to somebody who truly needs it more than I do and likes working at Deli because I don't. They couldn't fully tell me in the interview more about the position. I knew that the schedule they gave me would cause trouble and it took me a long time to get the schedule and I just wasn't fully expecting it. Although I do take accountability for applying for a role that I didn't even want in hopes that I would move up but most likely they probably would have kept me in there. I made myself believe that it is what I was wanting because I wanted to get away from my old job because it was messing with my mental health but I think I would have done things a lot differently instead of acting desperate. I also should have not said I'm willing to work any shift because that itself set me up for failure as well. My situation is very difficult and occasionally I can do mornings but not all the time. I would say to people think what is realistic for you and if it's not realistic for you then don't waste time because you can get away from someone who needs and wants it more than you do.

I'm in a similar situation as Gillian L. 2 months into my job and with heavy expectations that I find unreasonable. Unfortunately its a position where I can't ask for less workload, and I also barely have time to look deeper into the projects to figure out how everything works and identify areas that I need to ask about and learn more about.
I have no experience and finally got a job as a reports analysts and was excited to begin the 6 months training they mentioned in the interview - imagine my surprise when I go for my first day and learn they will be transferring 2 projects to me from a senior analyst that is changing departments. Just like that. And I'm the only one in the project. All team members have their own projects. These two projects are being completely redone from scratch by the coordinator, one of the projects because its been so overworked and patched up badly that is constantly having errors. I don't really feel involved in the rebuilding of them because I have yet to fully grasp the concept of what we do and the processes to be able to add value to what is being redone. Everyday there are errors and mistakes and I'm struggling with delivering stuff and barely have time to even grasp what I am doing. And they expect me to already have a notion of stuff and be able to think 2 steps ahead despite only being there for two months and despite them already having said this was a project that needed a senior analyst. The only real training I had was a udemy course they told me to do and maybe 3 weeks of observing the senior doing the daily updates so I can do them . which does not fully grasp the whole aspect of what I need to do and we didnt have much time due to them having other duties as well. I constantly need help from the senior who left to fix some stuff. I'm very much out of my depth and never felt more anxious and depressed at the end of the day. Its like the coordinator expects me to be on the same level as my more experienced colleagues, and add to that the pressure of always being reminded that I got to join the "best team" of the department, I like my colleagues and the company seems great and I feel like I could learn a lot from them all but I feel like this just ain't it. The job is remote so I cant look around to better understand what everyone does and follow by example. When I ask what can I do to understand the project better its always "ask questions" - and when I do ask questions I get vague answers or "it depends on the project". I will try harder for the next month and try to change approaches and organise myself better, but with the lack of support and unrealistic expectations I don't know if I wanna keep going. It's not worth the sleepless nights and anxious weekends.
I'm scared that quitting this after 3/4 months will set me up for failure in the future. I want to do well but at the same time I feel like I was thrown into an ocean and asked to reach the moon. For a company that prides itself in their learning culture I think they failed to implement a good onboarding system for newbies in the area... I am finding that this might not be the right job or maybe the right time for me as I want to try other things. But I dont want to end this badly.

Quitting won't set you up for failure. It shows maturity that you recognize a bad fit and do something about it.

I am in a situation where I do have a job line up and it starts mid next month and where I work the notice period is 1 week. Sounds a lot easier to quit the job right, well not exactly the company salary payment cycle is 1 month and they paid mid of the month about 14th each month, for 2 weeks in arrears and 2 weeks in advance, when I quit I give 1 week notice period a day after I get paid (from a moral value point of view I feel guilty as I felt like too calculative quit the day I get my monthly paid).
However, I will write in my resignation letter that I will work until the end of the month since I have been paid. The hardest part is because my mindset is already not with this company so subconsciously I would work a lot slower than usual and I know that not as professional as it seems, another issue is I already had performance coaching and my boss already told me the area I need to improve on. I really don't know what I should do in this situation to feel a lot less stressed, anyone who can provide me with some sort of suggestion would be much appreciated.
There are still approximately 2 weeks after I resign I need to serve after I resign (1 week is notice period and 4 working days extra to cover for them paying me a whole month) and I will not feel like working as I felt extremely stressed for the reason I don't really know, anyone has an idea to help me out would be great thank you.

Interacting with people is one of my weakness. Now working from home I still have that social phobia and one of my major struggle now is dreading to my mindset into work mode.
Some people I ask for opinion about my situation have suggest that I take 2 - 3 days sick leave if I must work until end of month. But I am not certain how strict this company is regards to provide sick certificate from the doctors. Maybe it's moral value kick in telling me don't resign unprofessionally, don't be slack whilst serving your notice period. That struggle and unease feeling creep up until I hand in my resignation and knowing the next step (base case is they are generous enough to tell me we paid you to end of month and you are okay to leave without have to pay us money back for days you haven't worked).
My suggestion to anyone who is in similar situation as me, don't take a job that is higher pay than your last pay unless you skills are good enough to do at least 80% of the job. If anyone like me can only do 60% of the job and think I can cope I just need to work hard and if must I'll take work home and study to get up to speed (unless you are able to cope otherwise you might feel uncomfortable at work everyday). I would highly recommend to analysis the situation very carefully before take a higher pay job.
