Hi Tamara I live in Scotland so I have a LOT of choice of spf's from all over the world easily accessible to me. I wear Ultrasun every day (spf30 in Winter and spf50+ in Summer). I have incredibly sensitive/extremely dry skin (with both rosacea and eczema) and unless I'm in a full blown rosacea flare can use the hybrid formula of ultrasun with no issues. I switch to mineral spf when in a full blown flare btw. Ultrasun has a lamellar technology that means it's a longwear protection and needs far less reapplication. As a Fitzpatrick one sun safety behaviour is ingrained by now, but I am not ever pink or have any darkening of freckles with this product. I do like the Evy spf also, but it's a foam and a bit less easy to judge amount per application (although it also gives longwear protection and is a good choice). I did try the Beauty of Josean spf all over youtube and had a horrible rash on patch testing, so that's a no go and many of the popular K beauty spf's are made in the same place (similar formulas and risk of rash to the others is high for that reason). I was also caught out with the previous Purito spf not being up to standard and it took a long time before I was willing to try them again (just to have a horrible rash/allergic reaction lol). I have used Ultrasun for more than a decade (occasionally trying other things) and have never felt i wasn't protected by it. It's five star UVA as well as fifty plus UVB (which is the highest it can be labelled as in Europe). It's approved in Australia for use there too and they have strict guidelines re spf. It's not something you have to apply every two hours so you don't go through it so quickly, making it more affordable per day than it appears. It just works for me. Best wishes. ps their lip spf's actually moisturise the lips and don't taste terrible, so I also recommend those.
This was a very interesting video. I’m surprised that the US is so far behind in approving spf considering the high incidence of skin cancer in this country. I’ve often noticed that generally, the US is not as serious about sun protection as are European or Asian countries. Thank you Tamara for this information. I look forward to your video from Paris with Claudia! Safe travels!!😊
I like the Missha Aqua sun gel, despite its den alcohol. Its scent though is very "sunscreen-y", like plastic, rubber smell. It reminds me of the Neutrogena sunscreens' smell.
Love the Isntree watery sun gel and have always purchased on Amazon. A couple weeks ago I noticed Amazon doubled in price so my last order was through Stylvana. Have to wait longer to get it but better than feeling taken advantage of 😊
The Asian sunscreens dont test water resistance to the same degree and thoroughness of US, European and Australian sunscreens so I never count on water resistance even if the Asian sunscreen claims to be.
How wonderful that you are going to France, and will see your friend Claudia!! Very exciting. Your reviews are excellent, Tamara. I often feel like giving you a standing ovation!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge, and experiences with us. Blessings, love, and happy travels...MaryEllen
Thanks for reviewing the Korean sunscreens for us. ☺️ I’ve tried quite a few sunscreens, and really like the Korean brands. I’ve been using Beauty of Joseon Sunscreen 50 SPF PA++++ for about a year. I like it so much that I think my search is over. When I’m in the pool I use a water resistant sunscreen. Not as picky about it, because I’m not out for more than an hour. 🥵 So excited for you, hearing about your Paris trip ! Ooo La La ! 😃🌺😃
Enjoy your trip! Yes I don't really care for sunscreens that sting my eyes or leave a white cast. I like the two last ones that give a glowy appearance and absorb nicely into the skin. Have a fabulous week!! 🥰
I’m so impressed with your scientific knowledge. So bottom line. Which is your favorite. It’s so frustrating about our sunscreen. I know that Australia has sone wonderful ones. I kind of jump around and try various ones. Have a wonderful time in Paris. Looking forward to your videos from there.
Hooray that you get to finally meet Claudia and to visit Paris! Oo la la! I'm always on the lookout for new spf's even though I love my Drmtlgy tinted sunscreen. Enjoy Paris, spending time with Claudia, and looking forward to seeing a video with both of you together! 🇫🇷
Thank you Sallie...so many SPFs, only one face LOL. That's why I have a whole SPF "wardrobe"...I collect SPFS like some collect foundations! And DRMTLGY remains a fav or mine as well.
🇫🇷 Safe travels to Paris, Tamara 🇫🇷 You must visit Monet’s House and Gardens in Giverny! 🌹🖼️Art and beautiful gardens, what else can you ask for?! 😊❤🇫🇷
Hi Tamara😊! So glad you and Claudia did this collab, as I love both of your channels! I know you live in the cold state of Minnesota as do I… 😊 My skin type is a bit of more of a combo however, many of these suggestions have been saved and I will add a couple to my,, sunscreen arsenal! So happy to hear you’re going to visit Claudia 🙌 and I’m sure you two will have a fabulous time! How fun!! 🇫🇷😊
I love your picks, but they do not stay moisturizing for me. I am reading up on dry climate skin care and many sites say to avoid hyaluronic acid, as it draws moisture from the skin in a dry climate. I am looking for one that uses mostly glycerine rather than HA, and emollients in the SPF. Any suggestions? SoCal is going to become more tropical with climate change, but I probably won't see that in my lifetime.
Although in the summer Minnesota has tons of humidity which my skin LOVES and works will with HA, , in the winter the air is dry as a bone. My MOST moisturizing SPF is Jose Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 47 untinted. I reviewed it in my spring round up last year and actually gave it a poor review because it stayed "greasy" looking for so long...but last winter I pulled it out and my skin drank it up and felt amazing. It is mineral with the only faintest white cast and makeup applied nicely over it. I would recommend this for only the driest skin and the driest climates. It has triglycerides, glycerin and beautiful oils such as jojoba and of course Argan Oil. No HA. I also find the DRMTLGY SPFs moisturizing, as well as Color Science and Elta MD. I will be doing another round up at the end of May...stay tuned....
I always like to see recommendations for sunscreens. There are so many out there to consider, so recommendations help me narrow down what I want to try. As of right now, what are your tried & true most favs in sunscreens? I use several different ones right now, one is the Trader Joe’s dupe for the Supergoop Unseen & it seems to be a spot on dupe. I like the texture & it feels like a primer.
I need to do a dedicated video with my top favs in my SPF "wardrobe"...including ColorScience, DRMTLGY, CanMake Mermaid Sun Gel, and so many others....
I was excited to see the topic of this video because I have a few of these sunscreens in my Amazon cart that I've been holding off on! I have dry skin also so your recommendations usually work great for me. Excited to watch Claudia's video too and start my sunscreen collection for the summer! Enjoy your trip to France!!
I forgot to say, Garnier Ambre Solaire, sensitive advanced 50+, is sold in Europe and they have other versions too which I love. They use filters we don't have here in US and work well on my dry skin.🙂
Bonjour Tamara✈. I'm sure your super excited. So cool you get to meet Claudia. Love to see a video with you both. So many sunscreens, but I like the last 2 you showed. I've heard of them.. Trust your opinion being I have dry skin too😢. Have great travels👍
Hi Tamara!! Did you wear sunscreen everyday starting from your 30s? If not, when did you start using it everyday? Your reply is very important for me, thanks!
Hi Secil! Although I stopped "sun bathing" in my 20s, I didn't get serious about sun protection and starte using SPF until my 30s...and then only if I was going to be doing outdoor activities in the summer. I didn't get super serious about daily SPF until my early 40s...oh How I wish I had started much sooner...but no matter what your age it's never too late! Hope this helps!
Hmmm...I don't think i have had that problem with Mermaid Sungel. Did you let the Sungel dry down completely? But you might consider DRMTLGY Broad Spectrum SPF...it's a little less glowy and I've been using it like crazy the past few months. And in today's video my top pick was Naked Sundays SPF...I really think it has a primer like effect and foundation goes beautifully over it!
Thank you for consistently giving us such helpful skincare and beauty advice videos. I’m a big fan! I’ve used the Isntree watery sun gel and while I agree it feels great and I think it could replace my daytime moisturizer with all those emollient, beneficial ingredients, I found it to be extremely shiny. I have dry, mature skin, and when I say extremely shiny, I really mean it! I often skip foundation, especially in the summer, and I found it difficult to bring down the shine without it. My husband even commented on the shine, and he’s usually pretty oblivious to that sort of thing. I haven’t tried any of your other top three recommendations, but I’m looking forward to giving them a try thanks to this video.
I purchased the Isntree Watery Sun Gel. I love the texture and ease application but it makes me shine like a disco ball. I want to use it but am struggling to find the right product to disguise the shine that I don't have to cake on over it.
The Dr. Jart Every Sun Day is not a legitimate product from your link. Dr. Jart Every Sun Day is spf 50, not spf 43 and retails for $40. This product is not on the Dr Jart website nor Sephora where is it sold.
Hmmm...That's interesting... I ordered everything from Stylvana which is a reputable site....perhaps it has been reformulated? Which is probably a good thing since it really wasn't great. I wish I would have purchased the one that is more moisturizing...I linked the more moisturizing one in the description box as a better alternative. I will add a note to the description box...thank's for the heads up!
I can’t wait to try a couple of your choices . I love Purito and Instree products so those would be my choice as well but I’m a little nervous about the chemical ingredients . It is overwhelming. Thank you for doing this. Also, the Loreal drugstore foundations were overwhelming. Thank you, still, for doing that comparison/contrast. Very helpful for those of us on a budget, and with limited time as well.
I love the Dermatology line! But this is very interesting. I enjoyed your video. I’ve been curious about the new Naturium sunscreen that has just recently come out. Thank you for sharing .
I am so excited to watch this. Do you have a non tinted mineral SPF that's water resistant for my neck and chest. Or can you explain how you manage a tinted SPF in your neck?
I just bought some Sunprise from YesStyle, with my last order. I'm not used to using extra sunscreen in my daily routine, because I work 12-hour night shifts, so I stick to my Original Olay Complete, which only has an SPF of 15. I need something for my golf days. Thanks for this one, Tamara!!
Paris! I'll never get there but am happy for you! Please post some sights if you get a chance. I don't have dry skin so not sure about the two top sunscreens but maybe will try one of the others. I started using the Hadalabo cleansing oil because of your recommendation and love it! Have a wonderful trip to Paris!!!
Yay!! I love sunscreen videos! And I appreciate your mentioning the fragrance when it appears, as that is something I'm sensitive to. The Isntree Watery Sun Gel is one of my favs. It's the first sunscreen I tried that I didn't hate. I now bounce between that and the Beauty of Joseon probiotics Sun Relief. Though I'm always trying new sunscreens, as well. 😊
You must be soooo excited for your trip. Have a wonderful time. I currently use the Missha soft finish sun milk SPF + PA+++ and just love it. As a second I use the Trader Joe’s sunscreen…. I like but still prefer my Missha.

I like the Missha Aqua sun gel, despite its den alcohol. Its scent though is very "sunscreen-y", like plastic, rubber smell. It reminds me of the Neutrogena sunscreens' smell.
