- The super-talented, legendary composer/producer Richard D. James, as Aphex Twin, released Heliosphan to the world in 1992 as a track on the double LP "Selected Ambient Works 85-92." A superb example of electronic music, this soulful and expansive piece is as beautiful and as relevant today as it was when it was first released.
Here I present a slowed down version... It's as if a record were played at about 2/3 speed, with a bit of compression and reverb. This is one of my favourite songs, and by prolonging and deepening it, I intend to make it a bit more relishable, especially for those who are already familiar with it. I intend no copyright infringement; clearly, this is not a commercial offering. If any representative from the relevant record companies, or of course RDJ himself, asks me to remove this from youtube, I will do so. I have the highest respect for RDJ as a musician, and I encourage anyone who loves this song to go ahead and purchase the full double album on which it appears, because every song in the album is mint. I've bought it a couple of times myself!

i know people on youtube talk alot of shit about drugs and shit, but my mate and i have had some amazing boomers tonight and listening to this right now has changed my life. for real. i feel like this song has changed my life for the better and i thank you for that.
Soft squirrels, overbrimming larders, vermillion moulds. The whistle being held at a 33 degree angle was the same shape as the hound's canine, and when the moonlight struck it just so, it glinted with a pale metallic marshmallow of quivering luminosity.
it's strange how the drum machine still feels fast while the synth feels extremely slow
The way the drum samples merge with the drum machine is godly
Great track, reminds me of a nicer time when I was much younger, the world seemed more peaceful, and people were happier... Also, Polynomial-C sounds excellent when slowed down, another favourite of mine... RDJ is a genius...
I'm curious how 2023 compares to 2019 or 20-30 years ago.
This song is like examining Aphex Twin's genius under a magnifying lens: well it's huge...

One of the best videos on this whole website. Yeah, that's hyperbole, but that's really how I feel. I gotta make sure I download the audio of this video. I feel like if I try to follow and make this edit myself, I wouldn't get it to be the same. If this video ends up going away someday and I can't hear this song it's going to break my heart. This freaking song and video has kept me going all of these years /since/ the year this video came out. This edit of this song is the /sound/ of my life's journey trying to make my dreams come true. So many memories of listening to this piece.

In 1992, Aphex Twin gave the world Heliospan, one of the most astoundingly beautiful and unique tracks ever recorded. In 2011, Dogma1Laboratories gave us a slowed down mix of Heliospan, one of the most beautiful tracks on UA-cam. And so, music continues to astound, amaze, and poignant. Truly, fine work. I would argue that Heliospan is Aphex Twin's Sistine Chapel, and this mix is yours :)

Collect all the (particularly good) slowed down versions and play the mix... for a really long time.
Wow, 11 years ago... 2012. So long ago, it's a bit blurry. What was I even using to listen to music? An iPod, sometimes. Usually my computer, full of ripped CDs... that I actually bought! (That reminds me of something, but almost entirely unrelated to this.) So, I use my phone for about 99% of my music listening. I use tidal mostly, which is a dubious decision to be critiqued another time... But what's a good app to use for all the music I have that's not on a platform??
Sony should make one. Call it something like... "Walk... Walk Man. Walk-Man. Sony Walkman. And it would dub anything you can connect a mini jack to. Or... anything that plays audio from... your phone!

I appreciate your perfect grammar in your posts and responses... this slowed-down version of the song is mesmerizing and brilliant. It's hard to improve Richard's work, but you may have done it.
I recently watched an interview with him and he said something that may or may not be true but I choose to believe it.
He stated that after years of training he only sleeps 30 minutes a night and he creates his music subconsciously through lucid dreaming. That would explain why he's been my favorite music artist for the last 25 years and why he calls it Braindance, which happens to be my favorite genre of all time.
Heliosphan is def my #1 fave track. It adds so much meaning to my life and it gives me great purpose to share this with all the planet Aphex children 🌏👽🦋💚

Thanks for the feedback. In my view this is not different enough to qualify as a remix, but I realise others will define 'remix' differently than I do, and of course that's fine. I also like the idea of surprising people with a slightly different version than they expected. However, I'll take your suggestion and try a new title for a while, "Aphex Twin - Heliosphan (slow version) [HD]" instead of "Aphex Twin - Heliosphan [HD]" and see how it goes. Cheers.

This song is so diverse and good that a slowed down version already is a remix. Of course you only slowed it down, but the whole sensation in the song has changed. You did a fine job. An easy, but fiiiiine one.
