This guy is living life! No bullshit job, no worrying about what others think, no social media bullshit. He just does what makes him happy with the people he loves. I aspire to be this.
korean pottery have been so underrated , in ancient time Japanese have hired Korean pottery to learn and steal their secrets, koreans tea bowl are so sought after by Japanese in early times and they produced one fo the most beautiful tea bowls and pottery, they deserved better recognition internationally. his work is so raw and natural and unpretentious.
Lee Kang-hyo thank you for letting us in. You are a very cool dude.. and I loved how you paint those pots from your soul. To be free is a good lesson to share.
When Lee Kang-hyo played the music and was throwing the glaze on that giant pot, it really fueled something within me. That was such a beautiful and powerful moment. The way he chucked the glaze on with such precision but also chaotically.. It was absolutely entrancing and fascinating. I said "Oh wow" out loud! It was a mixture of performance and pottery art. Absolutely magical.
Pretty sure he'll be announced national treasure one day. Watching his works I can't help but agree and admire. Every single stroke, every single expression, clear or obscured, is simply divine.
Beautiful film! Philosophic! Really makes you think of your life and main things in it! Thanks a lot to Master Lee and the person who made this film!!!!! I appreciate a lot!!! Russia
How did I ever live without UA-cam? How can I ever live without UA-cam? I love cute Documentaries that makes me happy to be alive and appreciate every little thing!
Wow what a video. At the end, at first I found it strange how he painted his artwork, but then I realized, some art is purely human expression. This was really eye opening to me.
He's a super interesting person. I love hearing him talk about the idea of the beautiful life, and how your mind and pottery go together. And the music in this video was amazing!
Beautiful ! Everything he makes is a piece of him. This is what is truly meant by that overused expression :"get a life". He sure did and it IS beautiful.
The music is Samulnori music. Samulnori basically means “four instruments” and the four instruments are Kwaengwari, jing, janggu, and buk. It has its roots in Korean traditional percussion-a Korean folk genre comprising music, folk dance, and rituals, which was traditionally performed in rice farming villages to ensure and to celebrate harvests. Each of the four instruments represents a different weather condition-the janggu represents rain, the kkwaenggwari is thunder, the jing the sounds of the wind, and the buk is clouds. The idea of yin and yang is also reflected in these instruments: the buk and janggu, which are made of leather, represent the sounds of the earth, while the metal jing and kkwaenggwari represent sounds of the heavens. Although generally performed indoors, as a staged genre, Samulnori depicts the traditional Korean culture, an agricultural society rooted in the natural environment. Samulnori is characterized by strong, accented rhythms, vibrant body movements, and an energetic spirit.
Goldmark Gallery Thank you for sharing. Korea is my second favourite asian country my first one is Japan. I tried to learn hangul is not so hard to memorize it but putting the sentences is very hard so for some time I stoped. I enjoy watching korean programs and I love their food.
That trance like drumbeat music and his dance moves are so closely resembling the similar tone of music and dances performed by devotees at the Bengali festival of goddess Durga. I find it very intriguing.
thank you for these documentaries, they have helped give my life guidance. Lee even sent me a cup, he still fires out of the same oil lit kiln. one day ill return the favor and give him back a piece of mine. Thank you for supporting ceramic arts.
Each time I watch this documentary I cry, joy for what still exists and sadness for what we have lost... It is utterly soothing though, that a man would spend his life in the pursuit of beauty for its own sake, living small but feeling big. When the artistry meets a life well lived we can only bow and emulate. I think why so many are touched is because he exhibits all the qualities of perfected humanity : simplicity, humility, absolute sincerity, absence of self importance but complete self respect and love for his work and family. A truly most inspiring man!
Theres something very liberating about getting your hands in clay letting your mind clear and ur hands guide you and creating something out of nothing when you are done it feels like all your worrier and problems are gone and u find so much peace atleast this is how i feel
I am completely speechless, & mesmerised , cause I just saw what life is, he is teaching life , I am going through difficult times in my life right now , But he seems to have shown a way to become peacefully and one, Thank you much for bringing this to light.....
This is such a fantastic film. I watch it every few weeks just as an uplift. Its a parable for modern life. I am so grateful I became involved with the arts at a young age. It is magic.
at first when he was painting them i thought they were ugly, but then I saw the end result and it blew my mind its as if they were cut from a stone beautiful
A wonderful, insightful, honest and truly inspiring story. What a talented man and a family that shows how you should support and work together, always.
he said BODY MIND HEART go into the creativity . It is a joy to hear the body mind heart concept . I am inspired. Thank you for making the video and posting. Be in peace.
Such a beautiful documentary and human being, additionally how blessed is he to find someone he can share his life with that also has the same passion as him! Fantastic.
Absolutley loved this. For his tecnique, his spirituality, his family support. A truely awe inspiring video. Something that i can try to aspire to in my pottery making.
They are traditional korean music which is called Nongak. This Nongak is folk music played in the countryside to accompany agricultural labor, making working together in groups easier and more enjoyable. Also when people in the villege celebrated havest, they gathered and played Nongak with instruments such as kkwaenggwari and gong jing.
I absolutely love pottery and this short documentary is amazing. I saw so many videos and they all transpire some sort of peaceful energy and all the potters seem to be in sick with this because making pottery is a life dedication. I appreciate their work really, it's beautiful and the spiritual part of discovering oneself through this process.
The music is well chosen. (Kim Duk Soo) Having lived in Korea for several years and seeing it performed many times it set this video up perfectly for me. Having more than a little experience with ceramics, I already knew that a Korean Master is a true master. Excellent video.
Yes, I thought I am the only one cried in the end. I was absolutely absorbed into his work process and the drummy sounds which led me into the another universe.
Sharing your story through the power of video has to be one of the most life changing and inspiring aspects of the 21st century. Keep sharing your story.

I find I have so much in common with Mr Lee life. Although I am not pottery maker I work hard and enjoy art and have something missing in my life at middle age. In my 50 I feel my body weaken and become worried. The Love of family is so important. You are blessed to have a business and trade that keeps you home. Many of us have to drive for hours to find work and that is so tiring. Thanks for sharing your story you have alot of wisdom.
even though he was poor, his girlfriend still did stick with him through thick and thin and he aspired for what he loved and dedicated his life for his art and his family now that is a true love story
25:54 that Pollock moment when he does his own ritual... And the fun moment an the very end you can tell he is in fact liberated from taking too seriously what he does, represents. A true master. Thx you so much for sharing.

Here I am 8 months later watching this again, truly inspiring man.
Yup
We agree!
This is the 3-4 time I’ve come back to this over the years
I'm curious why people downvoted this? Perhaps they can't handle him living in his own secluded world?
This is one of the best short documentaries I've ever seen. Showing him working, with that music in the background was magic.
Thanks for your kind words
