My C1 I drove to BIR on the slicks let the clutch out at 4000 rpm to bog the engine, I ran 9.91 at 131 w a 87 octane 413 SBC and then drove it home again. The secret was a TKO done by Liberty gear so I could shift at WOT. Keep up the great vids. Dave
@@johnenelsonjr That is the Tremec Heavy duty 5 speed, but when you buy one of them, they will not shift at high RPM. Hello, I purchased a 2000 Corvette in March 2022 purchased it before I did any research on what year was the best to buy. I live in Northern California where the summers can be up in the hundreds last summer while driving through town my car reached a running temperature of 230° at times. I enjoy watching your videos and you do seem very knowledgeable. Would you have any recommendations as to better cool, my engine? Thank you!
Keep practicing driving those cars! A couple of beast. I was able to run an 11.4 in my stock C6 Z06 in street tires. Hopefully I can get into the high 9s when I finish my heads and cam setup.
I'm a huge fan of the C5 Z06 and I'm actively searching for a contender. I always thought this was a really good car till it's up against its siblings. I know the next gen should be a better car but the differences are huge with Corvettes. Maybe I need to consider a C6 Z06 instead?
I have a hard time keeping my SC'd C5Z from spinning the tires with Michelin PS4Ss... I can't imagine those Indy500s trying to keep traction. I've had them on a previous car and they're pretty useless.
I was very interested to see how much better Bens 60' times were going to be at the track with his PS4's vs my Indy 500's. I compared the 60' times from all of our runs and they are pretty much the same. I was expecting his to be perhaps a tenth better - but no. My best 60' was 2.049. Ben's was 2.026. Not sure why.
@@Toys4Life My friend is selling me my Datsun Z back, that he bought from me many years ago, along with his 2001 Z06. He gave me an amazing price for both. I plan to swap an LSX into the Z06.

I like it quiet so I can make a pass every 20 minutes or so. Wednesday nights are ideal or non bracket race weekends. Race weekends are too busy - but fun for spectating!
Because it is a pretty expensive upgrade, I would make sure I planned on keeping the C5 for 5+ years and that I preferred the auto to the manual (IMO that is a personal choice). If so, go for it. Keep the boost a bit lower with a 3.8 SC pulley if the tranny is stock. I do have a tranny durability video on my channel for SC C5's - check it out!
Love the content I’m new to the corvette world looking to purchase one. I’m a bit undecided between the C6 vs C5 price difference is significantly. But I’d like to know which is better for auto cross and drag. Is a c5 able to be modes and match a C6? Any info would be much appreciated. 🙏
C5s can be modified to satisfy most peoples for less money. Overall the 2008 and newer c6s with manual transmissions have more horsepower potential due to their Superior transmission and diff.
1. Do you think it's the tune on the C6 that needs to be changed? 2. Is it possible to do a video on traveling with your supercharged C5? Like taking a 250 mile or more road trip in it. I wonder how these cars would hold up after all these years. Still on the fence about a C5 or C6.
I do think the tune is worth looking into further. I am wondering if his timing is knock limited by 93 octane and wonder if it would respond to higher octane and more timing. The trip to the track is 120 round trip - it absolutely drives like a stock C5 - unless you hammer it (:-).
I checked the tune and found nothing wrong. See follow up videos about this subject. At this point I would really like to see some drag radials - I think all that LS7 torque in 1st gear is too much to put down so that messes up the entire run.
@@Toys4Life yeah that makes sense, the torque from LS7 is stout, almost as much as the old big blocks, but has the high revs too, just be careful when you get tires, the diff might need upgrading
Despite the lack of traction, the mph should still be there or at least pretty close. 121 mph from a heads/cam C6Z? A bone stock one should be doing 123 in average conditions. Ranger did 130 in his stock C6Z. Heads/cam even with a poor DA should be 130 all day.
I agree. Get some drag radials and maybe even swap them between cars at the track to get a more accurate time? I use MT ET streets on my C5 for no prep landing strip racing and I get out on EVERYBODY... but the boosted cars reel me back in
I would monitor and log the following: Fuel Pressure throughout the run especially at WOT and Under Full Power, Injector duty cycle at WOT, Exhaust back pressures, Knock Retard and if it dropping into the low octane tables, and is he seeing any intervention with the active handling during the run. I would look closely at fuel pressure and fuel trims AFRs at WOT and under full power. PLEASE,, Let us know what you find. Very interested,, Bill Curlee , Corvette Forum Member
Thanks Bill! Ben and I are taking a little break from the hottest part of summer but we will be looking to sort out his issue. I appreciate your interest & taking the time to provide some excellent suggestions of things to look at. Will look at as many of these items as we can and hopefully find the issue(s). Thank you!
I think it's probably harder just to launch cuz it's got all that torque down low whereas mine just has it the horsepower up high. Maybe we'll get back out there this year?
It was tuned at a reputable tuner in CA - I won't name the shop as I do not want to suggest they did anything wrong as at this point we are not sure what is wrong. I did notice they have turned off the LTFT's and it is running STFT's only and that they seem to be close while scanning just driving around. That having been said, setting up the wideband and evaluating his tune further is the first place I would start - want to make sure his throttle opens all the way and that his timing at WOT is not knock limited for pump gas.
Hello, I have a Procharger Supercharged 1998 Corvette that I race a Bandimere Speedway in Denver, Colorado. So far my best time was 11.3 seconds at 120 mph. I bet you could make it go faster if you turned it. hehe
Oh, you're saying if I had my car tuned. Pretty sure it has to do with my launch, I'm taking it easy off the line at the sticky track with street tires so that I don't bust up my rear end. If I beefed everything up, I think the 130 mph traps would indicate high tens. But I could be wrong.
I think that's definitely possible about midday on that particular day ! But then there's the potential ticket thing for going over 100.. And insurance abd well you know.
I didn’t look through 196 comments, but what the heck happened with your second run? Your mile per hour and ET weren’t even in the same country, so something went wrong...
Sadly soon all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!!!!!!!
I think the manufacturers will phase them out here but now we're running into shortages of battery components of course and the United States electric there's no way in hell it can handle a major switch to electric cars anytime soon cuz we ban new power stations.
Probably not because it wide open throttle I think it shuts off the air conditioning however, air conditioning grips water, and we really shouldn't be putting water on the track.

I got some friends that rent out the track! They drag race all day lol
Fun!
Please include elapsed time when speaking about quarter mile mph. Thanks !
Good call - I'll be sure to include that info from now on!
@@Toys4Life Great content! Thanks again.
What are the motor diff from a stock c5 and stock c6
C5 350 HP for most of them . C6 400HP - then 08 and newer 430ish. C6 Z06 505HP I think.
what gears are you are running ??
3 42
Besides tires, Z probably needs a good tune or re tune
I checked the tune and found nothing wrong. See follow up videos about this subject. At this point I would really like to see some drag radials - I think all that LS7 torque in 1st gear is too much to put down so that messes up the entire run.
@@Toys4Life yeah that makes sense, the torque from LS7 is stout, almost as much as the old big blocks, but has the high revs too, just be careful when you get tires, the diff might need upgrading
Do you have a stock bottom end?
yes sir!
Something in the tune on the c6 maybe or a throttle body issue
Thanks for the comment, what about the throttle body are you thinking might be an issue?
@@Toys4Life ive seen before where the throttle doesnt fully open.
Got it, thanks!
Good vid.
Thank you!
Despite the lack of traction, the mph should still be there or at least pretty close. 121 mph from a heads/cam C6Z? A bone stock one should be doing 123 in average conditions. Ranger did 130 in his stock C6Z. Heads/cam even with a poor DA should be 130 all day.
Yep.
I would’ve even wasted money going to the track on street tires....
Noted.
Whats your C5's HP $ TQ?
Dyno tested - here is the vid. ua-cam.com/video/wa6wV7mVYXc/v-deo.html
@@Toys4Life Thanks brother!
It’s the kooks headers That is actually slowing him down believe it or not
I have an open mind. Why do you think that - what is it based on? The previous owner had the car dyno'd b4*& after and picked up 20 HP.
That white formula
Thumbs up or down? It's pretty quick..
T4L.... are you on a factory clutch?
Hey - I am running a Monster Twin Disk.
Monster twin disc.
5:29 lack of traction.
Needs drag race tires Not street tires.
I agree. Get some drag radials and maybe even swap them between cars at the track to get a more accurate time? I use MT ET streets on my C5 for no prep landing strip racing and I get out on EVERYBODY... but the boosted cars reel me back in
Agreed - that will drop the ET a bunch- but I am not certain that will drop the MPH by more than a couple.
What wheels are on that Z
retune it... add a few degrees of timing.
Tried that, even upped the octane. 99% sure Timing is optimized.
My track friends are VERY adamant on TIRES, but since I don't race, well...
4 sure - Tires are huge the higher the HP levels go!
Thank you!
I knew that z was gonna eat
I think it's probably harder just to launch cuz it's got all that torque down low whereas mine just has it the horsepower up high. Maybe we'll get back out there this year?
🤤🤤🤤
Probably just needs a retune to actually use all the mods, other wise the car is probably still reading it as factory
I bet you could make it go faster if you turned it. hehe
turned?
@@Toys4Life Yes, I had it turned at Corvette Connection in Denver, Colorado and they used the HP Tuner.
Oh, you're saying if I had my car tuned. Pretty sure it has to do with my launch, I'm taking it easy off the line at the sticky track with street tires so that I don't bust up my rear end. If I beefed everything up, I think the 130 mph traps would indicate high tens. But I could be wrong.
considering the track conditions probably been better race on the street
I think that's definitely possible about midday on that particular day ! But then there's the potential ticket thing for going over 100.. And insurance abd well you know.
Shifting way too early in that z06, let that thing rev to 7-7,500. I saw you shift at 5,500 in one clip.
Talk to David Paige at comp cams in Memphis he is a ls bad ass
Roger that!
@@Toys4Life I have been friends 35 years
I’ve talk to one of the guys at comp cam recently about their failing springs and the guys there surprisedly never heard of them failing .
Tires
Yes!
C5. 2000
Nice 👍
Needs a driver mod
The 5, 6 or both?
I didn’t look through 196 comments, but what the heck happened with your second run? Your mile per hour and ET weren’t even in the same country, so something went wrong...
Traction was the biggest issue that day!
@@Toys4Life But that doesn’t explain your mile per hour being in the tank. What was that?
Sadly soon all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-(
In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county.
Yikes!
@@Toys4Life dont invest a cent in ICE cars or you will loose a lot of money because selling those cars will be also banned soon
I think the manufacturers will phase them out here but now we're running into shortages of battery components of course and the United States electric there's no way in hell it can handle a major switch to electric cars anytime soon cuz we ban new power stations.
He's got a h/c c6z and can't get past a 120 trap speed? Whoever did the work/tune on the car needs a different job
Hold up a sec, lets wait until we find the issue before we point the finger (:-).
New wheels please
Yep - need some DR's!
Blown c5...overachiever
This probably wouldn't make that much of a difference but from looming at the video of inside the C6..... is the climate control on?
Probably not because it wide open throttle I think it shuts off the air conditioning however, air conditioning grips water, and we really shouldn't be putting water on the track.
Driver mod
For the ZO6 or the C5 or both of us knuckleheads?
Neither of you have tires
Affirmative, neither one of us has drag tires.
His shifting sucked
That's not very specific, anything constructive to add?
c7 was cheating with auto
Ya 👍
You guys shouldn't own Vettes. Worst launching & driving I've ever seen
Lol.
Lol 😂, where are your cool vette videos I wanna see you drive a moded vette 😂
Bigger injector's
No sir, at the wide band hooked up in the air fues were fine.
