I have an 1100rwhp procharged e85 C6 z06. There is so much that had to go into building that engine to make it handle 16lbs of boost. For starters forged internals, darton sleeved block, updated cooling system and fuel system with flex fuel sensor, rebuilt heads, headers. Once you start making power you've exceeded what the clutch , transmission, torque tube, differential and axels can handle so all those have to be upgraded to stage 5, and of course adding a good set of drag tires such as m/t or toyo or nitto. The end result is nice but it's not cheap👍
this video made me go watch your fiero videos !!! I didn't ever really look at your old videos lol because I own a c5 , but now I have new videos to binge watch THANKS ! for bringing up old videos :D
Ya I blew a ringland on cylinder 7. I got greedy 651whp, last almost 3 years, we don't have e85 in canada. Ordering some summit forged piston and h beam rods, block still looks good but I'll take it to the machine shop to check it. The ringland stayed together until the piston was removed. Thanks for the video 👍🏼
Thanks for the feedback, I've studied that cylinder number seven and eight thing and man for some reason cylinder number seven goes and there's all kinds of people way smarter than me speculating as to why but nobody even at the higher echelons agrees 100%, at least from all the research I've done. Have you heard anything different? Obviously it has to be either too much heat or too little fuel but nobody seems to agree 100%?? Good luck on your new build!
@@Toys4Life I've heard cylinder 7 just runs hottest, lean cause of intake design I've heard I'm not sure, good insurance is gapping the rings . This time I'm gonna run meth for insurance. I wish we had e85 in canada!
The most common thing I see is a cracked ringland, Did it to my ls3, my fault, should of safely ran the fuel out of the tank after winter storage even with stabilizer in fuel, it drops octane, now I know only cost me a fresh Texas Speed short block and then it escalade is real fast to ARP everything, Johnson lifters,TSPcam, custom Smith Brothers pushrods, billet timing chain, ls2 tensioner, hv oil pump, ls2 balancer, bigger injectors, smaller pulley, twin aux fuel pumps, 15" conversion, roll cage, parachute, 😂
Great video as usual ! Very informative... I'm thinking of supercharging my '08 C6 LS3.... gives me a lot to think about.... thanks for the great info. 👍🏼
I have a 99 convertible that’s stock. I’ve heard that the early LS1 head gaskets are not as good as later versions. If that’s true, the gaskets would need to be replaced before supercharging.
There's a 99 Corvette in the Corvette museum in Bowling Green KY with 773,338 miles on it that's never had a major repair. It DID have the head gaskets replaced at 753,338 miles.
Great Pod-Cast episode. I have a 100k Base 2002 Corvette and considered installing an A&A. Thanks for changing my mind. Just going to upgrade with SCTTuner.
My friends have been telling me ever since I got my C5 to supercharge it, even though I only planned to do a H/C/I setup with exhaust. Seeing as how reliable the A&A Vortech superchargers are, I may actually do it. Especially since it's actually legal in California where I live.
I would do it, with just exhaust going with a cam, especially if it's an auto trans, you sacrifice a lot more drivability than everybody will tell you, Especially the one selling you the cam, 9:17 bucking, surging, high Idle, multiple miss fire codes, going into neutral cause stock converter will push threw the brakes etc ask me how I know....
Realistically what would you expect from a 4 spd auto 2002 with a Callaway CAI, Long tube headers, and a corsa exhaust? Do you think with the auto it will run strong? Hang with new cars today?
IMO With a stock auto in good shape - I would keep the HP down to low 500s. With a tired auto, you may want to get it rebuilt first - or plan to soon after. If you drive it hard often you may need a rebuild but if done right you can turn up the HP ! This will not only hang with new cars - it will handily beat most.
I’ve wanted to super charge my 2002 for some time. I’ve had it for 19 years now. It has 27,000 miles, but the only issue I have, and the reason I haven’t done it, is because it has the automatic trans. Do you think it would be beneficial to have the transmission reworked before I add the SC, or could I just leave it stock? Love the channel and enjoy each episode! Thanks.
I would talk to A&A about your specifics - they are straight shooters. If I had a stock auto I would probably go with a 3.8 pulley ( a bit lower boost) and not tune it as aggressively - keep the RWHP down to 480 or so.
I've been on the fence about supercharging my 2000 C5 as I live in California so I can't do heads and a cam but my car sees a lot of higher rpm track driving so I have been thinking really hard about it. I'm curious what about your opinion is, but I think with a knock sensor light, hood vents, a very conservative tune and a redline of 6000 I might be able to get away with supercharging my car and not blowing it up. I would love to hear your thoughts though.
@@Toys4Life I do a lot of spirited driving in the canyons, so I'd say a good 20-40 seconds on throttle, off for maybe 5-15 then back on again. When I drive like this with the stock motor and an upgraded radiator I notice my oil temps tend to get pretty high after about 20 minutes so I'm planning on getting an oil cooler. The more I think about superchargers the more I get worried about heat though and I'm starting to think I should just leave the engine alone.
Just curious but the 97 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP has a supercharger but don’t know if it has an intercooler . Why didn’t you swap that engine into the Fiero?
My C6 has 162,000 on it and i have around 8k to put into it. Right now, it has a full exhaust and a pedal commander I just don’t know if I should write the bullet and get the supercharger kit. I was planning on buying it this year but because of inflation now it’s $2000 more than it was last year. Which makes me debate on whether I should just get 06 rear fenders wider rims for fat rear tires and then coil over suspension and some type of areo. it would handle better but it’s still would only have about 400 hp do you think 162,000 mile LS two would handle a supercharger making like 500-550 to the tires?
That might be a bit high. If you oil pressure is good (indicator of bearings in good shape) and you have good compression (indicator of good piston ring sealing) you might be fine? Up to you, your call - I can't say for sure....
Hi I have an 81 corvette C3 with an LS1 swap from a corvette C5.it has a 4L60E transmission. I used to be able to launch and the wheels would spin no problem and take off fast. Recently it has been hesitating on acceleration with no more Launch at all like as if I’m taking off on a higher gear and slowly gain speed. no more launch at all. Any ideas on what you think it could be ? I would greatly appreciate your help thank you.

I read the stock automatic transmission can only take 400 hp. Is this true?
That sounds low to me - especially one with low miles. Later year C5' autos got improved transmissions as well.
I was wondering if this was a Wisconsin channel then I saw that E pump and knew
I can’t wait to get one for my c6

What kind of track - how long would you be in boost at a time and then after a corner, would you be right back into boost?

@@Toys4Life well thanks for answering. I know basically from your video you said it’s all a matter of how your engine has been worn.
What about turbocharging the Vette? Is that a less riskier way to go?
They both increase cylinder pressure.... pick your poison !!! 👍🏼
IMO - Probably the same - so long as boost is predictable and you tune properly. I could be wrong, all of my experience is NA and SC builds.

Have you ruled out the transmission is going into 2nd way too soon- that would do it. Clogged exhaust would do it too.

What happens if you you start out with a ZO6 C5(2004). ? Shalom.
Might need a bit more octane or meth/e85 for the same amount of boost due to the higher compression.
