The BEST notes to BEND for GREAT guitar solos

- Learn where all the best notes to bend are in Minor Pentatonic. This lesson will show you not only where the notes are in the pentatonic shapes, but also help you understand why they work so well so you'll know if you can bend them a whole step or a half step and on what chords they resolve.
These licks are perfect for any blues or rock songs or jam tracks. Having taught hundreds of different guitar solos over the years, I've noticed that all the famous guitar "gods" of the past tended to bend certain notes the most frequently. And for good reason! Often it's because those notes sit under our third finger in the pentatonic shape. That's helpful because third finger is a lot stronger for bending. But also, because those notes resolve against common chord changes.

1980's had the best solos and best guitar players by far of any decade it's not even close, Randy Rhodes, Eddie Van Halen, George Lynch, Warren Demartini, Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Reb Beach, Vito Bratta, and Jake E Lee!!!
Those are some good examples for sure. Thanks for watching 🎸

Thank you for another awesome lesson Blue! Finally ordering your books this week and can't wait to get them. Could you do some lessons on triad use and location? Would love to hear this taught in your style!
Cool let me know if you have any questions about the books. This video has some advice on triads. I will do more soon ua-cam.com/video/zP88N8wzqMM/v-deo.html
Very bluesy and a great lesson
Thanks for watching
Do you have a video on bending notes in the major scale or major pentatonic scale? That would be a helpful one to have as an extension to this one. Thanks!
I haven't done that yet. Though I can say the most common bends are in the same positions as they would be in minor, but they have different functions ie resolve differently
Great breakdown Blue, feeling like Gilmore now. Excuse me gotta go and re-tune my B and hi E strings again.
Thanks Charles! 😄
@charlesfellows8130:
Get some locking tuners, and lubricate the grooves in your nut with graphite. A #2 pencil will work. That'll help your strings stay in tune.
Try it, you'll see!
The C note can also be bended 1/2 step to C# the major 3rd of A chord, an interesting bending that was not mentioned. Anyway a great lesson. Thank you.
Great point! Thanks for mentioning that. 😀
that first bend also bends through blues scale note , so it sounds good no matter what you do when playing blues rock,,
ok commented too soon, lol
All good thanks! And yeah you are right ✅️
Hello Vancouver, your guitar are simple and great. Easy to follow for beginners and easy to practice for pros. I just bought the two books. What I'm still looking for are backing tracks for the exercises. Do you also have a CD or DVD on Amazon? Or where can I find the backing tracks? I live in the Netherlands and am also an online reseller of digital material. Can I resell your books (I want to order 10 of each every month) for a small profit and always refer to your Guitar Lessons? It will also benefit you?
Thank you! Glad you are enjoying the videos and the books. Near the front of the books there is a page that has a URL link to where you can download all the audio examples. My books are only available for sale through Amazon but you are welcome to purchase them all through there. I'm unable to offer bulk discounts though sorry. I think they do have shipping to Netherlands.
That was a good one.
Thank you!
Thanks! By the way, which pedal you used in this video? It sounds awesome
never mind, i see your board behind your back
Thanks! On these videos usually just Keeley compressor plus and the UA Dream 65. Sometimes a tiny amount of tape delay.
Any tips on doing vibrato on a note you are bending? I am pretty good at vibrato, and I rarely bend out of key/tune, but staying in key while adding vibrato to a bend is messing with me.
@manamose5430:
Same here! That's a hard one to master!
What I've been told: since we're bending with 3rd finger, lock the index finger against the neck (by the high E string), then use it as a fulcrum. Use the wrist to create vibrato, cuz you want to keep the bend locked in, so you don't change pitch. Hope that makes sense.
I still haven't mastered it, but made progress since being told that.
Just keep working at it! Once you get it, you'll have it.
That is a tricky technique. I'll think about how I can doa video on that
@@GuitarLessonsVancouveroh that would be great :)
Love me some boomer bends!
Thats what they call them now. I'm not a boomer but I still like them.
No 80s ?? SRV ?? what are you thinking ?
It's more about what people request. Not that much 80s. Except ACDC and a few others.
@@GuitarLessonsVancouver ACDC see theres another guitar hero,, those guys missing the best stuff,, anyhow nice lesson,, stuff i do just naturaly but nice to know why my ear wants to go there,, one bend I do use in that same place is the d on the second string at the fifth fret, gives a nice low tone bend through the blues note,, and an easy off and slide back to the C, I dont notcie anyone one else at blues club playing it , maybe its just me,, good to have your own style,,
The 80s had the best solos.
There are some great ones, agreed. They just don't get requested much lately.
No. Hendrix, Page, Gilmore, Allman, Gallagher, just to name a few. 60/70s
Thank you
