Currently restoring a '91 Africa Twin as my first real adventure bike. Being only 26 and having no previous experience, these videos of yours truly are a gem. Thanks so much, love from Italy 🤙🏻
I bought my '94 back in 2017 and is currently at 110k km. they are so lovely to ride. I am ashamed to say I haven't taken it off-road like in the video because I don't have the confidence, yet. So in true motorcyclist fashion I bought a second bike, a little Honda CRF250L for off-roading and weekend trips to built up my skills.
@@roxjeruben that's a great idea for sure! Luckily I've been riding enduro bikes, especially 250/300cc 2 stroke ones, since I was a kid. Looking forward to seeing if I'm capable to bring the old warhorse off-road, although I clearly cannot boast even 1/100 of Riemann's skills
So practical 👌 simple and covers all the bases. How good is it that we have access to this man's brain, experience and knowledge (across many disciplines of riding also).
So good to see The Warhorse again. I live a three hour drive away from where you bought it, and me and my husband absolutely love your videos. I wish you all the best for your trip😀👍
Love the down to earth, tell it like it is, no bullshit information. So much knowledge in these videos. Got to meet Adam today by being in the right place at the right time and chat for 10 mins, great guy.
Discovered your channel a couple of months ago and your knowledge of biking is unreal. Ive picked up so many tips and learned so much from your videos. Had road bikes since 2015 and just bought a V-Strom 800DE so hoping to start some light off road riding with it.
I rebuilt my 2000 XRV750 Africa Twin throughout 2020 back to the frame rebuilt the engine and gearbox even though it didn't need it apart from the output shaft but replaced all bearings and rings and headed of in 2021 around Australia but just did Tassie, Vic, NSW and QLD did the cape twice on the old girl. in the 10 months on the road I did 35,000Km and slept in my tent for over 220 nights, with 55kg of gear including the weight of all bags, panniers. The only two major additions was, Wilbers suspension and excel takasago rims with the rear out to a 3.5. and she went like a dream changed the oil and filter every 4 to 5K still got her and have had her for 9 years. she has done 180,000km and just keeps getting better. As for gear being an old school enduro rider (XR250) always just layered up. Enjoy the trip.
As a long time motorcyclist, dirtbike rider and DS/ADV guy you hit all the good stuff. YES!!! get that weight off the back and high up, it destroys they way the bike handles. Great idea on the "hope I never have to use them" tubes. (a front tube will work in either end). Spring rates!!! do it. The two things you missed on my list are footpegs, good ones make all the difference in control. And folding mirrors. Well and grip heaters!!! Good stuff.
Adam, found your channel couple weeks ago. Very good, no-frills, "lets get out there and discover" attitude, love it!!! Salute you from Córdoba, Argentina. I´m a proud owner of a (dirty and muddy) 92 RD04 with 100K of rough terrain on it (at least what the clock says) , and still going strong though using little due to time. Had three Transalp 600s and now the RD04 I bought 2nd hand in Spain 16 years ago!!!. Best bike ever made? At the least its a benchmark!!! And it aint look that outdated 35 years on!!! And that 90s Dakar look is just unique!!! The Belle Époque of ADVENTURE!!! Those where the days!!! I love it when a brand new (and very clean) GS guy stops next to me at the lights and looks down on me like, where are you going with that old thing... And Im like: hey, your mudguards and visor are shiny spotless!!! Keep them videos rolling, you have a new fan here!!! Enjoy!!!!
Love this Adam. Bike looks awesome. Makes me miss my trusty Dr750 which was such a good reliable old girl. Now got a Tenere world raid which I do love but there is something about the original old PD inspired bikes that the new ones cannot replicate.
Been a while since we last saw WarHorse. What a beautifull machine. Currently looking to buy Africa Twin or Super Tenere. There is just something about these 90s bikes that amaze me. Awesome video.
I just got yesterday a Transalp 600 97 model year , It's been in a very good condition with 71k km. I kept your advice to take an old bike and fix it. Manos From Greece
I had a transalp 650 , I highly recommend to get progressive fork springs and slightly thicker fork oil , it transformed mine and never bottomed out 👍🏻 have fun
You seem to be immune to rain ;-) Thanks for showing your gear. It's perfect, your warhorse. I ride a lighter Transalp 600 with a similar set up, everything pimped up. It's well balanced and indestructable, but an old bike. It will get me through the tracks of Romania (TET and ACT) in two weeks time, about 3,000 miles. Much less than your adventure. But then, Europe is smaller. Hope you keep us informed about your progress. All the best and good weather conditions, Günter/Nürnberg
Again, brilliant. I am about to embark on a long run with a mate who is a very experienced motorcyclist, but never undertaken a trip like this so will get him to log on. All good advice.
I had the 1989 XRV650 for about a year from a guy who left it in a barn for way too long. Did a full nut n bolt restoration as i wanted to travel around europe on it. She was an animal. Less power than the vstrom i learned on but that power delivery hit like shot. Terrified me a few times i only learned to ride a bike about a year before i got her. The restoration included new shocks and she was way too high for me. But i let the missus use the car to get to work and i rode her in.. hail rain, snow, and the odd sunny day we get here in ireland i was on that bike. No abs, no traction control, and no baffle in the exhaust.. as i like the sound 😂 rode past a colleague on the bus to work, and he said the entire bus shook as i trundled by. Had to sell her as i had to move home and had no garage. Didn't want her out in the rain all year round getting rusty again. The bike was the same age as me and I miss it every morning when i open my eyes and get into my car. Watching this lad use his bike for the intended purpose is like magic to me. Mans a wizard, i cant wait to see what he does with it!
Probably my favourite bike of all time. Dose everything very well an keeps chugging on no matter what’s thrown at it. Wish I’d never parted with her.❤❤❤❤ just like ya first true love❤❤❤❤
Hi Adam, great to see you on the Warhorse again. So much detail in that video. I’ll have to watch it a couple more times. I really enjoyed your talk on clothing layers, it’s something I’ve always struggled with in winter. All the best for your adventure. Looking forward to the next episode 👍🇦🇺
brother Im stoked, first thing though ride safe. I have been looking forward to this since you went to get the warhorse inspected. what you is doing right now is a dream, Im eagerly looking forward to the next vid. Keep sending it and stay strong m8!
I said the exact same thing about modern bike clothing. I purchased a rather nice pair of dainese trousers with the goretex liner on the interior. The results are you become wet anyway because you're sweating so much on the inside and every on the outside is drenched from the weather???? So you're better off not having it or wearing it on the outside. I've always supplemented my jackets with a light rain coat over the top. That way, you have some air circulation. Great Warhorse videos, mate, throughly enjoying them.
You will probably never see this comment, but I don't care what anyone says your one of the best riders if seen in a long time a real life offroad legend 🤙🤙
I had to laugh. Imagine a group of riders came to the top of that hill and you`re standing in the middle of the track talking to a camera with your pants around your ankles. Funny !! "I`m making a film.....No not that kind of film"
I had an XRV750 RD04 [yours is, by the look of it] for four years. Bought it in Tokyo when I lived there, shipped it back to GB and rode it to Portugal return three times. Nothing offroad, though. Yours was nicely packed. Neat way to store the innertubes. These bikes are 100 per cent reliable, other than the fuel pump, but I'm sure you know that. 1990 [Nick J]
Your off-road motorbike skills are just outstanding but your editing skills are awesome Mate you are legend and an spiring and motivating UA-camr Hat’s off my mate; greeting form Barcelona 😊
Very cool. I have 2x 12L Kriega soft bags meant as side panniers, but just tried and very easy to hook them to the front crash bars without the thing that goes over the seat.
Great common sense choices & nicely laid out. Working on gear for some longer rides myself and was amazed last week when some low-life throws something over the fence into a tree which then fell into the garden, turned out to be a fully functioning 1A/hr 12v power pack, thanks very much (it was on my list for GoPro charging while camped). I still have a way to go before I'm ready, so I travel vicariously through content, mainly Noraly ,Yourself and a few others. Love the bike, a bit big for my age and condition though. Cheers 👍
Like so many others.. I'm real excited about this adventure. Thanks Man!! Thanks for breaking your setup down for us. That's a killer idea for the tubes and spoons. And I'm throwing away my stupid bubble top case 😂 Just got back from a 7 day moto camping adventure in the US on a 10yr old Triumph Tiger 800 xc .. i used it because it was convenient and it came with the bike. .it wasn't my 1st pick, but you know, the proper gear gets expensive. Anyway, I'm definitely going to steal some of these tips from you. I couldve fit all my top case gear on my crashbars.
You must know Adam. The world of dirt biking was waiting for this. Am I right dirt bike community. And I'll see you here watching Adam do what Adam does best.,Share. TY Adam.
So true about those “adventure jackets” with their rain liner inside. Worst on a multi day ride as (mesh type) don’t dry right away so you end up riding with a damp jacket the following day. The innovation I would to see is a compact layered protection gear. Heavier for highway speeds (transiting) and lighter/airier gear for trails and tracks slower riding. I guess also depends on the country or geographic area we ride
Klim, Dainese, Clover and some companies make laminated jackets, the GoreTex is external and the jacket doesn't get soaked, of course they cost a lot, yes.
Awesome setup..... Planning on doing similar to my AT 1000 after a rushed trip to Flinders Rangers with a box with camping and tools on the back pack rack it was totally unridably in the soft sand.
Good shout on the voltmeter. I had the rectifier go on my 98 Africa twin, first I knew about it was the sound of a whistling kettle when i parked! Cue panic mode as i start tearing things off to find whats about to explode haha. Id just ridden 250 miles, no idea when it failed! Another 10 miles and maybe the whole thing would of caught fire! battery was swelling up and too hot to touch, scary!
You confirm my response to a debate I have with a friend about tyres. I've happily ridden all kinds of terrain on 50/50 mitas, but I'd sooner compromise and have a little looser handling bike on the tar than be a passenger on a 200+ kg torpedo on the wet dirt ! Abs is also a curse off road when it gets slippery and a 50/50 is used, the tyre simply can't grip and the bike just keeps rolling forever, I really don't like abs in those situations even on the 890 I prefer to ride without abs offroad and better tyres for the occasion
great, no more ring-a-ding-ding for a while, happy trails AR1, if you get to north queensland, i've got the place and gear if want to wash and/or do any maintenance on the ol warhorse. hope it all goes smoothly for you
Awesome Adam! I've been waiting in anticipation for this. Look at the old girl, what a beautiful old beast. Excellent video as always, lots of awesome info mate epic set-up too! 👍👏 get amongst it man! YEEWWWW! 👍🇦🇺😉🍷🍾😀
This is amazing, glad to get a better insight as I myself am trying to decide on the best way to layer gear across the seasons. One quick question I had was on upper body protection, the knee pods are a great idea with enduro pants, but what about elbow or shoulder padding. I already have a knox under armor that I'm trying to layer since there's a lot of highway and asphalt involved, in my general riding. Thank you again for the advice. I found the knee pods but not sure what the pants are lol.
Thanks for sharing this video. Have a nice trip with lots of fun with the warhorse and keep traveling on the upper side of the bike. Hope to see some impressions of that journey. Tada!👍
I’ve been waiting for another Africa twin vid 🙏
Same here.
Was hoping for more riding than down one hill though xD

how strange it is to see a guy who has gotten your attention by just his skills .
seeing your new video notification made me smile
Just got a Tenere 700, hoping to be as skilled as you one day, thank you for the inspiration
Its a beast!

Good stuff, I’ve had mine 2 months now. You will love it

Hands down best motorcycle content in known universe. No nonsense, pure knowledge from experience. Thanks!
Epic is the only word, your approach to weight distribution is very unique and logical
Low-key love how you're trying to shoot a video for the bike, and it starts pissing down. Great atmosphere with the bird calls as well.

Indeed we have all been waiting for this!
Safe travels mate, so jealous! You look ready for it ! Enjoy 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

You should put this in the warhorse playlist
Enjoy your travels Adam. Looking forward to watching you on your way. The warhorse and your kit are top notch.
So pumped for you brother! Enjoy, stay safe 💪
Looking forward to following along on this adventure! Watching while planning my own trip , slated to begin Jan 1st..
Always great Adam, fantastic to see the thought poured into the gear setup and as before........the love for the Warhorse! 🤘😎👍
Just so damn enjoyable to watch. I just imagine myself doing the same adventures.
I would listen to this man.
This guy knows his shit and speaks the truth. No BS.
You had me at 'Hello' Or at least 2:05.
The waterproof layer on the inside drives me insane(r).
Nice set up.
Good Luck.
Finally! The warhorse series is starting!
Klim, Dainese, Clover and some companies make laminated jackets, the GoreTex is external and the jacket doesn't get soaked, of course they cost a lot, yes.
Just awesome mate, appreciate all the knowledge you share! Thanks heaps, loving these vids :) Go Warhorse!
Wow, I watch with pleasure! Thanks for such wonderful content🦾

looking forward to the way the warhorse travel story unfolds :)
Love ur no BS logical attitude AR, look after yourself mate.
Love the opener showing ever the guru's sometime need paddle, I most likely would have been paddling long b4 that
Awesome setup.....
Planning on doing similar to my AT 1000 after a rushed trip to Flinders Rangers with a box with camping and tools on the back pack rack it was totally unridably in the soft sand.
Cheers mate!
Fantastic to the ol girl out… you got her set up beautifully.. looking forward to your adventures
Safe travels 👌😎

Another 10 miles and maybe the whole thing would of caught fire! battery was swelling up and too hot to touch, scary!

Magnificent set up!

Welcome back Warhorse 💪
This is amazing, glad to get a better insight as I myself am trying to decide on the best way to layer gear across the seasons.

I already have a knox under armor that I'm trying to layer since there's a lot of highway and asphalt involved, in my general riding.
Thank you again for the advice. I found the knee pods but not sure what the pants are lol.
thank you again Adam! 🙏
Thanks for sharing this video. Have a nice trip with lots of fun with the warhorse and keep traveling on the upper side of the bike. Hope to see some impressions of that journey. Tada!👍
