    Greg, I know you put this video out 3 years ago and it still is relevant today. I have a 2007 Tacoma TRD crew cab 4x4. This truck of mine has just over 280,000 miles and still is running strong. I do all my own maintenance and try to make sure that it is taken care of for me. I swear by this model truck to everyone. I believe that I will go over the 300,000 mark before the end of 2020. I don't ever plan on getting rid of this truck.

    I thought that Toyota quality peaked in the mid 90's. These sell for a lot of money on the used car market, a testament to their quality and reliability.

    • @MichaelRCarlson
      @MichaelRCarlson 7 років тому +5

      No. I would say for trucks, 80's into the mid 2000's are all very good. Time will tell on the newer ones, with all the funky electronic junk that will fail and be hard to repair at home. If you like paying a dealership its fine but for the home mechanic new cars are going to be a problem down the road.

    • @SupramanTRD

      Toyota quality peaked for cars in the 90's. In the early and mid 2000's they were terrible. But around 2005-2006 things started to get better for vans, cars, and trucks.

    I have a 2005 Toyota Double Cab TRD with 198K miles. Rarely needs repairs. Put on new brakes (rotors and drums also) a year ago, only the 2nd replacement. Replaced serpentine belt and plugs recently - again, only the second time - last time was at 80K. Use Mobil One w/ Toyota filter every 5K. Needed a new blower switch about a year ago. Just runs and runs. Hoping for another 100K.

Dispensaries do huge sales cafes hold huge smoking sessions and festivals and venues take place where hundreds of people blaze up and enjoy a hazy day socializing on massive amounts of edibles and joints/bongs. On top of it thousands of people get arrested that day for dui or public intoxication around the country due to more ppl driving around high and smoking in public. I did have to replace the clutch about two years ago, but other than that, everything else has been cosmetic or for personal upgrade, like a DVD player, new headlights, and rims. Oh yes, the rims started corroding about 4 years ago and I replaced them with aftermarket rims but that could be because I live near the ocean. I would buy another Tacoma for sure as my son wants this one. As for the recall, I still need to take it in for leaf springs inspection/replacement.

    I sold my 2001 taco made in Japan back 2017 to with 184,000 miles. I bought it with 55k on the odometer. I sold it it to the first guy that looked at it for its original msrp! 😲 2WD immaculate interior with some paint fade. I bought it used for my son in high school who passed it onto his younger brother and it lasted through both kids high school years after which I inherited it. And sold it because my wife wouldn’t let me keep it after I bought a 2010 fj cruiser. I miss is the usefulness of the Tacoma for hauling shit in the pick up bed. Super reliable and dependable. Oil, Gas, Go. I did have to put new brakes and replace the radiator. And replaced the battery twice. Heat in the deserts of Las Vegas just kills batteries. Oh and both boys each own a 2010 and 2008 Tacoma after they passed the 2001 down to me.

      No one loves Toyota more than me but I was also surprised he didn't mention the Frame rust issue with these. Although I think an American company manufactured the frames for Toyotas North American Trucks. So maybe that's why they rusted badly. As you also said any car will rust in Certain weather conditions. Especially when salt is spread over the roads.

    My 06 Tacoma truck has only 86,000 miles . I don't drive it daily ,but never had a problem with it . Don't expect to have any problems feels like new still , just keep up with the oil changes regularly maintaince. This truck doesn't have many miles on it ,not sure why he posted it .

    i've got 131k miles on my 06 off road tacoma and it still runs great. granted i've had to fix some stuff the idiot before me neglected to address - pads, rotors, calipers, clutch disc, clutch plate, throw out bearing, stick shift lever, both cv axles and axle seals, both front wheel bearings, center carrier bearing, all new u-joints in the rear drive shaft, rear axle seals, rear shoes, alternator and some other little stuff. I've never been happier to own a tacoma because i was an ince away from getting a frontier! i'm sure if i did i'd have some serious problems!

    I have 2003 chevy s10 crew cab with 166500 miles and run strong, I was thinking sell it and buy Toyota Tacoma, but the problem with the frames get rust quick, and I decided keep my s10, I prefer put a engine or transmission on a truck, but save problems with the frame, rusty frame very very dangerous.

    Why do you consider 2005 and 2006 the best years for Toyota quality? Did they change something in other years that affected their quality (for better or worse)? Also, are there any particular years that you'd recommend avoiding? Thanks in advance for you help/advice!

    Have a 06 Rav4 v6 220k miles and its started leaking oil. A oil line twice busted resulting in running out of oil on it and eventually replaced with a metal line by Toyota..I think that hurt the motor or it would have gone 300k easy.

    I wonder how many Tacoma owners had their front muds flaps break in half. one mud flap cost $85.00- $90.00 to replace. also, the driver's side armrest fails by collapsing. couldn't take much weight. and the manufacturers did not take my concerns seriously.

    Second gen started in 2005. Tacoma is currently in the third gen. You must be reviewing a TRUCK from the future... 2005-2006 Tacoma's with the V6 were prone to head gasket failures. ALL Tacomas up to 2012 have had issues with FRAME RUST.

    What about first gen Tacoma? 2001-2004 are highly sought after and hard to find under 200k miles or for a ridiculous price tag. Those first gen Tacoma’s will last 400k easily. 5VZ 3.4 L engine is legendary. Second gen obviously are top of the line as well.

    Great channel, arguably a living angel, but... A Ford Ranger can go 300k miles, and the frame doesn't rot. I have a neighbor that has had two Tacomas that broke in two. Now THAT's a catastrophic fail! Nonetheless, I've owned seven Camrys, three Celicas, two Corollas, and two Highlanders, so I do like Toyota...but NO Tacomas, used ones are waaay overpriced! It's a truck people, it's not supposed to need all those car features. Had two Rangers and several acquaintances with them. Go Ranger!

    Thank you so much for this video! I personally am planning on purchasing a 2008 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab myself for college driving. It is difficult to find a Toyota Tacoma under $10,000 that has less than 100k miles on it. Is 100k fine for a first car? I would really appreciate your response in that I want to know that my money is well spent.

    Hello Greg… Quick question… Do you see any problem with installing throttle response enhancement devices like Sprint Booster on a 2018 V6 Tacoma off-road 4x4? I’ve heard those little devices make for a much more inspiring ride, but I don’t want to damage the drivetrain or void my warranty. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Anyone notice how the previous generation with the 3.4 sell for the same price as the 4.0? I'm confident that the 3.4 is more reliable... But why are they as expensive??

    • @MichaelRCarlson
      @MichaelRCarlson 7 років тому +1

      The 3.4 is extremely popular and very reliable. I'm not justifying the high cost but, it is what it is. I think Toyota trucks and 4Runners have the highest resale value of all makes over time.

    • @tylerheilich4670
      @tylerheilich4670 7 років тому +1

      3.4 holds its value because it is more reliable than the 4.0. Not to say the 4.0 isnt, but i would venture to say the 3.4 holds a pretty good line up there with Nissan's VQ series 6 cylinders. Not just reliable, but bullet proof. My buddy has a 3.4 with 387,000 and he still tows sh*t with it. Original engine and trans.

      The motor has only had fully synthetic its whole life.

    Honest, I bought a 2006 Tacoma loaded etended cab new and in 2 years that I owned it, Toyota had it more than I did. 99% of this was due to factory recalls and waiting for parts. This time DID NOT include loaners. I will never own another Toyota as long as I live. The capper was one Sunday evening I was sitting waiting for a red light and I experienced the dreaded unintended acceleration. Toyota said it must in your head. I got rid of that truck that week! I bought a used Ridgeline much better

      Stephen Maurer im in Mass, and every fall i have my truck treated with krown rust prevention. i researched it first and everything was positive about it. they completely coat the undercarriage, drill tiny holes and spay the insides of all the sheet metal etc. and the holes are then plugged and look factory when finished. im very happy with it.

    Well made but has issues inherent in small Toy trucks ( I've owned 85, 89, 94) - far from perfect. Poor shocks, later ones now have differential issues.
