For anyone who likes this look but is too busy to diy it: You could just as well buy the Fjällbo shelf from Ikea, which is pretty similar to the Vittsjö shelf, but with wood instead of glass. I have two of those myself. :)
I am so pissed that the Fjällbo is so short. This would be perfect if it was higher. But this video saves my life. It combines the wood look with the tallnes :)))
I was measuring the height of the bookshelf because I couldn't quite picture it and it didn't seem right to me. Then I remembered that as a Dutch guy I'm probably quite a bit taller than you throwing of my sense of scale, lol. Awesome video! Gonna try and copy it because it looks amazing! Thanks for the video
#6... getting better with each video!! Love the industrial look and have a room with a brick wall background, going for industrial look. Thanks for the great idea!!
That looks so nice, really well done . . . But, you know, I do love books and have quite a few of them, not yust one or two stacks per shelf, and a lot of books in a shelf allways look cluttered, but the belong in the shelf . . . you know what I mean. I would like to see you make a really full bookshelf look nice, that would be great.
Franziska Pötzsch I was just thinking the same, my bookshelf is full of books and it looks really cluttered. It would’ve been nice to get some inspiration on how to make it look more nice and tidy.
you should watch one of her 1st videos where she shows her bedroom, she has wallpapered the back of ikea shelves which she has packed full of books and other items without it looking cluttered.
I subscribed to the channel as soon as I saw your face in the thumbnail! When I discovered your videos on Chatelaine, I binged them all in one afternoon and I'm so glad to see that you have your own channel! Excited to see what's ahead!
There is an old tutorial somewhere on the internet on someone’s blog of this exact project including the dimensions for the wood so you can have it cut at the hardware store. This video is much more fun, though. 😋
Alexandra if you lotion up your hands ( not greasy but moisturized ) it will help keep your hands from getting stained is you don't want to wear gloves. I have a latex allergy so this is what I do.
This is so awesome!!! I just found your channel, I’ve never held a power tool but now I’m so curious. My husband and I are on the hunt for our first house and I’m going to have to invest in some tools to start my own DIY projects. So inspirational!!!! 2:41
Alexandra, I love your videos! Would you mind making some content aimed at more masculine colors, ideas, decorating, etc? I love watching these, but would love to get some interior design ideas/inspiration for a single dude's apartment, bathroom, kitchen, etc...
I can recommend ,,thelonefox,, he did some awesome diys and hacks :) and personally, I think anything with leather or wood looks manly.. things without gold, copper etc. More colours like white, black, brown for example :D
Great job, girl! I'd love to see something related to lighting for renters. It seems like such an impossible task to change your overhead lighting as a renter. Any easy, reversible tips?
this is an amazing hack!! i dont really like the vittsjö-shelves (its pronounced like this, take the E in how you say "herb" that makes the Ö-sound we have. so vitt-sjö or vitt-scheu if u will. sjö is lake in swedish.) but with the wood they look so stylish! im glad you made your own channel!
I have both the Vittsjo and the Fjallbo in my house, and although the finished Vittsjo with the wood has a similar feel, they're totally different finishes and styles!
wonderful video! I love your work so much - so glad you have a dedicated channel! I would love a video with advice on how to style a Murphy/Wall Bed so that it feels like a coherent part of the space when it's up and when it's down and creative solutions for a headboard! I can't find tips on this *anywhere* and I'd be so grateful!
Great hack!! I love your contents. Please make video how to decorate a small coffee bar.. How to decorate it and make it more personalized .. I am trying to find some inspiration idea . what I can put beside the coffee machine
Good hack. I thought of making some changes like this. But i don’t have much time to do... would you fly down to India and get something done to my racks if i pay for flight tickets and stay for 3 days in hotel... no wait, you have done pretty much same
It's a decent idea, but I'm curious to see how this holds up over time. I feel like lag bolts would have been a significantly better choice than deck screws to bear the weight this will undoubtedly end up holding, especially the portions attached to the ceiling. It also seems like the amount of potential load being applied to the ceiling is more than what the engineering of these shelves will ultimately hold over time. I'm certainly not an engineer or expert on the matter, but it doesn't completely pass the eye test for me. 2:28
I like the Vittsjo better than the Fjallbo for this look bc the Vittsjo is a) ~$40 cheaper, b) doesn't have the corner brackets, some of which screw to the front of the unit whole others attach behind the vertical pieces, c) doesn't have screws showing down the front of the unit, and d) plain pine can be stained any color desired.
What does that mean that Ikea very kindly sent the new bookshelf to Kristen & Aaron??? Does that mean the bookshelf was free??? How did Ikea know about this? Did someone contact them?
Hi from New Zealand! I absolutely love your cats!!! I would love a kitten but my flat mate has a cat... did you have any problem introducing your baby into the household? 🌹🌹🌹🌹
I feel like whenever I've gone to Home Depot to get wood cut, they always tell me they can't cut pieces down to that precise of a specification. I thought they only did more rough cuts. I'll have to try again sometime.
Fits well into my space, I painted the back green. It's very easy to customize just the back if that's something you want to do. I would suggest sanding it first before painting, I got a little impatient. The shelves ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxM8H4CjCb79vzeyvgaFMdzmLm88oVFPMkare pretty small so keep that in mind if you're going to have it horizontal that some books won't fit. I like the snug look that it has. Good small shelf if you don't have much space, but not too small. Simple to put together, though you'll need your own tools, a screwdriver and a mallet/hammer, it's easiest to do with another person.
I'm always a little perturbed when people use books as 'decor'. They're books. You read them. They're not meant to be used as color accents or whatever. You don't choose them by the cover, for pete's sake.
This great young woman needs more subscribers, she has such excellent content, very inspiring for my own home improvements. Well done with the shelf Vittsjo (pronounced "vits-yo"). Thumbs up. :-)
Why is it that bookshelves are not really used to house books in such videos. Could you please show how to make a bookshelf with many many books look good. Please don't color sort. My books are sorted by topic and I would never be able to find a book if I had to remember the color of the cover.
The two dots over the o, makes a difference. Its a different letter than o. translate.google.com/#view=home&op=translate&sl=auto&tl=en&text=vittsj%C3%B6

I have two of those myself. :)
the Fjallbo shelf is also a better option if you want to do whats in the video as its a lot easier to cut the wood to fit that shelf unit.
The Fjallbo is only 100x136 cm where as the one used (VITTSJÖ) is taller 100x175cm. So depends how high you want the unit.
I am so pissed that the Fjällbo is so short. This would be perfect if it was higher. But this video saves my life. It combines the wood look with the tallnes :)))
I rewatching old videos because times are tough and this is relaxing for me, and THIS TOP WITH THE BLACK TIES IS CUTE.
I was measuring the height of the bookshelf because I couldn't quite picture it and it didn't seem right to me. I LOVE the hot pink candle popping against the gold minibar stuff.

Mel McCaughey good Tipp! Her shelf full of books looks really good. You can keep it more simple, less decorated, if this is still too much for you :)
I would love to see a video especially on this as well :)
I think she just color coordinates them when there's a lot of books
I subscribed to the channel as soon as I saw your face in the thumbnail! When I discovered your videos on Chatelaine, I binged them all in one afternoon and I'm so glad to see that you have your own channel! Excited to see what's ahead!
domsgizmo thanks so much for the lovely comment!
Very cute. I especially love how you added the print on the top shelf to make it look taller
There is an old tutorial somewhere on the internet on someone’s blog of this exact project including the dimensions for the wood so you can have it cut at the hardware store. This video is much more fun, though. 😋
I recommend a sealer on pine before applying the stain. A sealer prevents blotchiness.
Alexandra if you lotion up your hands ( not greasy but moisturized ) it will help keep your hands from getting stained is you don't want to wear gloves. I have a latex allergy so this is what I do.
The Sopranos and The Wire. Gotta love her.

i hope they did't throw out the old one! it was very nice
Alexandra, I love your videos! Would you mind making some content aimed at more masculine colors, ideas, decorating, etc? I love watching these, but would love to get some interior design ideas/inspiration for a single dude's apartment, bathroom, kitchen, etc...
'The sorry Girls' and 'mr. Kate' have done some good room transformations for men! Have a look at their channels :)
I can recommend ,,thelonefox,, he did some awesome diys and hacks :) and personally, I think anything with leather or wood looks manly.. things without gold, copper etc. More colours like white, black, brown for example :D

This is awesome I needing a shelf thanks for sharing this.
Do you think this could make a good aquarium rack?
Like 10 gallon tanks stacked up?
Could this be strong enough?
Well done, you go Girl.... I love it. Any DIYs on wood door screens...something out of the BOX... 3:25
I love the open shelves, but the stuff in it gets dusty and the maintenance is exhausting, can't spend may days dusting....but It looks soooo good.
I love your basket idea ❤️❤️

I would have stained the edges of the wood
Lisa matthews we did! It might just be hard to see on camera :)
And underneath but other than that it looks good
awesome hack! but there is a series called fjallbo at Ikea. that is the exact thing you are making now! :P for those who dont want to diy the shelf :)
Lisa Marie Dz Just bought the fjallbo TV unit and large shelves and they're gorgeous. People are always surprised when I say they're from IKEA!
I have both the Vittsjo and the Fjallbo in my house, and although the finished Vittsjo with the wood has a similar feel, they're totally different finishes and styles!
@@kristinasnowflake hi I am interested
Where is the battery operated light from?
wonderful video! I love your work so much - so glad you have a dedicated channel!

I have done a few of them to sell on but now I want one for myself in my new home 🤗😍
Love this project Alexandra! Thanks for sharing!

Hey do you have any idea where the light is from?
Your outfit are always so cute 💛
Really, really well done! 1:22
Please link the battery powered light, it’s adorable.

Interesting ...... now let us know what you did with the original glass shelves. Did you repurpose them or are they just stored away gathering dust?
Those probably broke when she dragged and dropped the package on its corner at 1:56
Where did the light come from?
I luv your top ...w the black ribbons! Shelves are great too!😃
Love your shirt with the ties! Cute :)
dianna h. Thanks! It’s from Zara.
Thanks for the tip, I love to try it out soon
Why not stain the left side edge and the underside as well? Other than that it looks cool
I know right ! It looked unfinished !!
Nice and straight forward as usual. 👍 2:18
DVD’s they want to keep private”.. 👀
🤣
What does that mean that Ikea very kindly sent the new bookshelf to Kristen & Aaron??? Does that mean the bookshelf was free??? How did Ikea know about this? Did someone contact them?
Candis Carnegie its called a brand deal, lots of youtubers do them with companies.
Target has a shelf JUST like this for about 100 USD
Kirstin Goodwin I was about to comment this haha I actually have it and I love it
Came here for the assembly....ty.
I wonder what Kristen and Aaron have on those DVDs
Hi from New Zealand! I absolutely love your cats!!!
I would love a kitten but my flat mate has a cat... did you have any problem introducing your baby into the household? 🌹🌹🌹🌹
Thanks so much for this! I needed and idea for my office shelf! Awesome!
Love you girl just what I wanted 😍😍😍😍
I have this shelf and love it. But I may switch up the glass for wood. Hmm 🤔.

WOW, I'm in LOVE.
Looks great !!!
Love this but I live in Jamaica and we have concrete walls. 5:33
End grain stain?
I'm always a little perturbed when people use books as 'decor'. They're books. You read them. They're not meant to be used as color accents or whatever. You don't choose them by the cover, for pete's sake.
Loved this!
Beautiful
How much do they charge for cutting the wood?
It's usually free!
awesome shelf!!!
This great young woman needs more subscribers, she has such excellent content, very inspiring for my own home improvements. Well done with the shelf Vittsjo (pronounced "vits-yo"). Thumbs up. :-)
Thanks!
It’s actually pronounced Vitt (as in wits) sj (like the sh in show) and the last one ö is pronounced like the i in bird. :)
Vitsjö means white lake in Swedish. 💙💚
Thank you very informative! I'm going to apply this technique to other things. 1:44
MORE VIDEOS!!!!! I can't get enough. Your smile is contagious btw :-)
This looks like the ikea Fjällbo shelving unit
Love your videos! Just a question, are you still making videos on Chatelaine’s channel?
Gideon Movshovitz I’m not! Just on this channel :)
They need a bar upgrade. The shelf is great
The only thing used in the bookshelf is that liquor bottle. Books don't look to have been used. Used liquor bottle shelf?
Bravo!

yessssssssss I LIKE IT................GOOD WORK GIRL =)
Costed $180… wow not bad. How much did that family pay for the remake. It scares me to think about it.
God, I wish you came to Brazil and fix my living room.
The two dots over the o, makes a difference. Its a different letter than o.

Hi
How r u small bed room make over with cozy tea corner bed room with sofa ( v tuf job) I live in pakistan ( in karachi ) u r a good person
I always use google translate to find out about foreign words pronunciation 😁. And what you did with the bookshelf is great!
Not too keen on the styling :/
I mean the shelf is perfect, but the decor ould have been more industrial or rustic to match their style, not just her love of color and tassels.
Love you!
It works
How many times have you heard someone say "see you later Alex gater"?
nice video!
I hope the bookcase was tethered to the wall. IKEA bookcases are notorious for tipping over
DIY armoire ?
No es para tanto, pero... Is cool jeje
When you said “hey Siri”, my Siri interrupted the video. Sometimes she is so NOT helpful!! 🙂
If you got a free shelf it didn't cost you for being YOU! You should say how much it will cost without having freebies
Taylor 😂🤣
Too bad these shelves are sold out everywhere now 😞
you could have just bought the same shelf from homedepot or wayfare or overstock for about the same price.
Yeah I really think you should’ve stained the ENTIRE piece of wood, though
