The thing I love about Emily is that... she's right. All her spiritual mumbo jumbo was a bit off-putting to me at first. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized... This world is literally full of monsters. There's a wizard in the forest. You're helping to rebuild a building with a bunch of apple-like forest spirits. Emily's just the one who sees the most.
The Green Rain event in 1.6 makes her connection to forest magic much more obvious. She's the only person aside from the Wizard who understands what the rain means. Edit: 2nd year Fair new dialogue confirms another interesting thing: aura reading doesn't work on people with depression (Wizard mentions not being able to understand Sebastian's thoughts). This may explain why Emily takes interest in Shane and Clint.
@@kooriicoladaMy headcanon is that Emily is his secret daughter, born from an affair with a mermaid. She already showcases psychedelic magic like a mermaid. Both the Wizard and her display interest in merpeople in-game, as well.
Immediately after the release the fan discourse around Shane was completely insane. Everyone was going mad with the desire to "fix" him. I suspect that's why ConcernedApe jumped on promoting him to romancable, and Emily got to ride his coat tails. Everyone wanted to take Shane to bone town, holy hell
2:43 unrelated but I’m so sour that Marnie lost this poll, she’s my exact type and I think she’s so pretty. I wanna save her from her dead end relationship with that coward Mayor Lewis, I would treat her right frfr 😤
New headcanon that the clothes u can buy at Sandy’s Oasis are actually made by Emily since tailoring is her passion, and Sandy gives her space in the store to sell
That's my headcanon as well! Another headcanon I have is that Emily and Sandy were in the middle of planning a clothing business together, but Emily's parents more or less trapped her into being Haley's caretaker. The bus to Calico breaks down not long after. At least now, Emily seems to have an online store instead (why else would she have a computer?).
I like Emily because she already has herself sorted, unlike the other characters. I find it kinda funny that she became one of the Bachelorettes. At the same time, Shane became a bachelor since he's in a little bit of a rough patch with some midlife crisis sprinkled in there.
A-spec Emily is not something I had considered but I'm kinda all for it? Would be cute to think of it of a queerplatonic marriage! And it being open to interpretation is really nice
same here! i'm aromantic and in a queerplatonic relationship myself, but i never married emily. watching this video and hearing more about her, i think that aroace/queerplatonic emily is such a fun headcanon!
Clint is "Where's my hug personified" 😂 yessss absolutely his vibes are rancid. So creepy. Also, he's so rude to the player and calls you lazy when you go to buy ores from him. Like buddy, your customer service is garbage. Not surprisingly, he can't work out that Emily being nice to him at work is her work personality, because he apparently doesn't have one...
Honestly? As an aroace person who loves their friends very much, Emily's ways of expressing love are so relatable:D She may not be aro or ace herself, but I still appreciate how I can vibe with her because of that trait and non-explicit expressions of romance
although I'm sure the fact that she was not originally planned as a dateable character plays a lot into her early heart scenes being different than most, I love that we get to pursue someone who is more secure in their lives. It holds the same "value" in game as these more vulnerable and troubled singles, and personally that kind of love where you don't have this component of going in to "fix" anything and more just enjoy each other's company and are there for each other is something I enjoy a lot. also Clint can suck it, your voice was perfect
I'm surprised she's not planned to be a dateable at first tbh. Out of everyone in Stardew Valley, Emily embodies the themes of the story the best: happiness, community, nature and magic. I'd go as far as to say she should be the "canon" relationship.
@@dmin5782OMGGGG SO MUCH THIS!!! Emily is my favourite girl! I'm honestly surprised she wasn't planned as a dateable character at first. She's so lovely!
@@tarolatte6803 Yeah. Even before Emily romanceable, she already shows that she was into us. I mean, isn't it odd how Clint's quest to give her an amethyst is the only time you gain friendship with anyone other than the quest giver?
I think we really could have had something with Clint. Helping him find the courage to ask Emily out without being strange about it, them having a nice day at the carnival but her telling him that she didn't see this as a date. And at first you think that Clint will get really upset, and he's obviously a bit sad things didn't work out, but you actually see after that finally asking her out and pulling himself out of the weird pining state did help him in the long run. You can tell him you're proud of him for putting himself out there and he tells you that he's happy he finally took charge of his life, even if it didn't end like he hoped. And maybe even later there's some dialogue that implies he's connecting with some other traditional blacksmiths in the city, where he'll have an easier time connecting with people because they already have something in common, etc...ah well. I completely understand peoplenwho can't stand Clint, I only like the version I've created in my head ig :'D
I like your ideas with him! I wonder if there are any good mods that expand his story in a good way like that. I really want like him as a character (I wish he was a romantic candidate!), but he’s kinda awful and doesn’t change in game :[
I never really thought about the fact that her relationship is less explicitly romantic before. It's also sad that so many of her scenes are infiltrated by Clint. Almost makes you wonder if she was trying to dissuade him. She's not stupid, I'm sure she's aware he likes her like that.
I don't know if anyone else has mentioned the romantic tension between Emily and Sandy, especially in the Expanded Mod! Sandy comes to visit Emily in town way more and honestly, I see them being that type of lesbian who doesn't realize your best friend is in love with you lmao
i never vibed with emily since her surface level of being into new age spirituality didn’t click with me. we have very different outlooks on the world in a way that kind of outright conflicts. also clint. enough said on him. but this did give me a bit of additional appreciation for her! she’s a good contrast to the other stories which focus so much on helping the other person through a big emotional problem. i feel like clint’s presence is to make up for that though, unfortunately. regardless of me not vibing with her romantically, she’s still nice and a unique addition to stardews world
Hey, I am ace and on the aro spectrum myself, I wanted to provide some perspective. I really like the read of Emily as somewhere on the aroace spectrum, and her dialogue with the player after marriage does totally reflect either a committed platonic relationship (sometimes called a queerplatonic relationship) or a romantic relationship with someone on the aro/ace spectrum. There's totally evidence there, and I also think it aligns well with Emily's view of herself as inherently different than others. This is a way I felt about myself too, and similarly have found that being honest with others and expressing myself genuinely has been my path toward healing. Thank you for analyzing her so deeply and genuinely, I definitely want to marry her in my game next!!
I've been in a queerplatonic relationship for 2 years now and this definitely felt familiar to me. I've only considered pursuing Krobus before because I didn't want a romantic aspect to my gameplay, but this video has made me think I should go for Emily in a future game
@@evermore331 Yeah, this video completely changed how I viewed Emily. I just assumed her storyline was like the others where she'd get flirty and lovey-dovey with you after you date/marry her, so I just went for other characters who matched the farm theme I was going for and never tried her out since she was obviously happy the way she was already living, she didn't need my character like the others do. I'm really surprised that her story is so similar to my own experiences as an ace person. God, I'm so sorry for ignoring you, Emily, I'd actually love to never kiss you, please marry me
Theres lots of fun little details that give the vibe that she has a touch of the tism, but for me the one that Spoke to me was her inviting you over, dancing for like 15 min max, being like damn im sweaty, and then leaving to take a shower. And then you presumably leave or just hang out alone. Like first of all yes, if im sweaty i need to shower immediately or im k*lling someone. And then also like just bailing after inviting u over like we are not following the social conventions. An activity occurred, its over now, please leave my house
throughout the video i was thinking the same thing. she def has autistic tendencies, even if she's not intended to he an autisitic character. i love how so much of the stardew fandom has headcannons about different characters being autistic, having adhd, etc. i wonder if concerned ape purposely lets it be up to us to decide if we think certain characters have certain traits so we can make the gameplay feel more personalized, rather than outright saying "this character is _". i feel like that would also explain why alex's character is into men and women just like the rest of the bachelors, but seems to have a better story when its with a guy. that to me says hes probably moreso into men, but since its our game its our choice how we want to perceive that. (sry for the long response, i didnt mean to ramble sm lol)
the only thing i disagree on is the plus sized argument- clint’s a blacksmith! he prob has the same build as a bodybuilder without steroids, high muscle with fat over it! not that it matters just sharing my clint headcanon lol
I work in a foundry and the majority of us, me included, are pretty burly. Like, we're a bit pudgy, but a lot of it is muscle covered by fat. It could also be that he's an older man and almost all the older men at my workplace have a bit of a belly but can LIFT. Muscle distribution and the amount of water we have to drink to stay hydrated (gets to be +50°C in the summer months) that probably contributes to the body type. And obviously, not all blacksmiths and foundry workers :) Also to Fiona, just found you from the Krobus video, I've been binging and listening to them while casting aluminum at work. The in depth stardew analysis content is great, thank you :3
I am pretty sure that would count as "plus sized" since the term originally just referred to larger sized clothing. It just means a bigger than average person
Emily is definitely one of the more stable relationships, emotionally and mentally-in my opinion. For her the story feels like a genuine friends-to-lovers, sweet and beautiful. Btw, the effort you put into this videos is amazing! The outfits, printouts, the pointer stick (lol), and all the little effects. Can’t wait for the next video!
For Emily’s outfit, I always interpreted the collar and sleeves to be a salmon red color, while the rest of her dress was a scarlet red color, cus if you look at the arms and hands on her in-game sprite, they’re not really the same color. I’ve seen a lot of fan art that interpret her outfit like this, too!
as someone who's both aromantic and asexual you could totally interpret your relationship with emily as some form of queerplatonic. i'm kinda surprised i never noticed (tho i don't think i even knew what a qpr was on my 1st playthrough lol) as always, wonderful video ✨✨
i looove emily and shane's little friendship. unlikely bonds are fun c: super glad you included them! 49:25 ... maybe she only calls you her friend bc she doesnt wanna get sent to turbo hell or whatever jksdfjkdsljg ....god, i'm remembering a poncho i've been on and of crocheting for a cosplay for literal years that ive been on the last row for aaaaaaaages. emily give me strength PLEASE!!! i love emily lol. looking forward to the next one!
"This is not about Shane." Everything is about Shane! And with he and Emily sharing so many heart events, I really like seeing their genuine friendship and the sharp contrast to Clint's creepiness.
Quite amusing how Emily and Shane has an extremely healthy friendship despite being completely opposites. No joke, they have one of the most stable relationships in the whole town (at least based on all shown interactions).
My best friend was the one who introduced me to Stardew, she was head over feels down for Emily, and hated Clint, but didn't tell me why. Meanwhile, I didn't got bad vibes of him at first. I was quite interested by my idea of him; A cute, little tone deaf, chubby guy who is shy and/or was terrible expressing himself. Then I saw who he really was and I felt so dissapointed. Everyone hates clint, so hearing you point out how "Meh..." was that of all of the guys /he's/ the one painted in this light had me saying "YES, SHE GETS IT", so, thank you ♡ In one hand, I like that there's flawed characters in Stardew that you can dislike so easily. On the other one, they did that man dirty, he could had been such a cool character whithout the "nice guy" aspect. Anyway, I apreciate the Shane mention in every video, you are so right, Emily can do better... Someone else can try to fix him. So far I'm astonished how similar I felt in my first run. Nice video! Next one sure is a fun one. Pd: hello?? The sweater you did for your fiance is so cuteee ♡ craft gifts are the sweetest
54:50 Fun fact, there's some research that suggests that plants have a variety of ways of communicating with each other! It's typically not something a person could eavesdrop on unassisted, but in a world with actual magic I think it's very plausible for Emily to be able to pick up on it.
Emily has forest magic like the Farmer, Linus and Rasmodius. Linus has a pretty similar line about trees telling secrets. Also note that Emily, Linus and the Wizard are the only 3 people who can actually sense the mystical force behind the Green Rain, based on their dialogue.
I love this video of yours. Emily is genuinely my favourite character in the game, and she's the only person I ever marry when I play the game. As a side note, thank you for describing all the events. Unintentionally, you've given me a lot more details about what's happening in the game, things I never knew. I'm blind. I play Stardew with the help of an accessibility mod, so I often miss a lot of details about character visuals, settings, effects, etc. I new knew what was happening in Emily's dream scene (except for the text), and I never knew her dance event was so active -- I always assumed it was just her dancing for the farmer. So thanks! You accidentally improved my understanding of the character. 👍
I cannot describe how surreal it is to hear you say in this video that you have only 118 subscribers as of filming, and just over 800 at time of editing, and see that in the 3 weeks this video has been up youve reached 4.4 thousand. Obviously I'm sure it's much more surreal from your end but i guarantee it's deserved, these videos are all superb and i cannot wait to see what else you might post and talk about, you're extremely well spoken and also hilarious, and clearly passionate about SV
Clint is a incel, he manic pixie dream girls Emily. He wants her to “fix him”. And if they were to ever get into a relationship, when being with her didn’t really make him happy after some time, because it’s an inner problem, they would break up. This has happened to me more than once. Props to Emily for knowing herself enough to ignore his sad attempts.
5:26 I gotta say after running into everyone's dialogue a ton of times on my longer save files, the "have faith!..." dialogue is one of my favorites to see. That and the 'you like talking to me? I guess I believe you. Maybe you're just as weird as I am" from Shane. Oh, and Vincent being excited to see me is always cute as hell
The difference is magic. The dance she gives you seems to be an actual display of illusion magic, very similar to the mermaid's song in the night market. Emily herself has very mermaid-ish traits too, from her appearance to personality to even her themes.
It's really funny to me to see Penny's 14 heart rug and bed in Emily's 14 heart event. Imagine moving in with your closest friend / wife and then you sleep in the bed her ex-wife bought for her. That's so funny to me. Great video!!!
Someone else may have mentioned it, but Clint and Emily each have a line of dialogue after the event where he asks her out that confirms the "date" didn't go well. Clint will ask you if she said anything about it and then go "Actually no, don't tell me and let me keep my dignity." or something along those lines. Emily will tell you that he spilled a drink on himself in the first five minutes and then barely spoke to her for the rest of the night. It's not a final resolution because their dialogue with and about each other doesn't change after that point, but it does give some conclusion.
Love this series! Hope you'll continue afterwards with the non-romancables :) About Emilys care for the outsiders and healthy self-love: From my paedagogical point of view I agree, that this might've developed through experiences of being herself bullied and growing by that into self-love instead of hatred and taking venegance for her pain. I could also see the possibility that her and Haileys parents were a significant influence. Like she's copying the love and care for the parrot as she's experienced it in her childhood when she was comforted by her parents. And it's obviously what a huge self-esteem and self-love both Haileys and Emily have (in very different ways as open-minded or being harsh to everyone). Of course it's still a self-developed individual charactertrait, but as both of the sisters grew in that point to self-loving women, I could imagine an influence by the child-rearing of their parents :)
hi, so, i watched harveys and Haley's video. i had been thinking. I aready knew i was probably aroace. But now i am more sure. Life with Emily sounds way more appealing. I think i undestand myself better now, thank you for this videos!
I love these vids so much plz never stop making stardew content. Maybe after this series you can analyze the little bits of lore in the game! Idk anyways love ur context and I hope you get lots of fame off these vids
Also wanted to say I relate to Clint (not the incel vibes, just the reclusive introvert part) and I want to like him but he is sooooo unlikeable even though he reminds me of myself and how I acted in high school, admiring people I liked from afar without ever even trying to befriend them. It’s easier to stay in your shell than risk losing the comfort of it
Emily is my favorite spouse, she is just so sweet, pretty, caring, understanding, all the good words and wonderful, she filled my heart after my failed marriages with Shane and Penny on my first file!
im just here to say thank you for giving emily the analysis she deserved, i feel like she is so often overlooked by people (which is okay, more emily for me hihi) i think this video also made me realize why i love her so much and why i choose her without hesitation on my first ever farm save. she just felt right and natural, and she has always been so kind and openhearted towards everybody. she deserves the world, i love my wife, my sunshine, my love, emily
I'd love for her to be more acknowledged, but being less popular is somewhat great too, since any discourse around her seems far more genuine, not extreme like, say, Haley or Krobus.
As an ace person, my IRL partner always chose Emily to marry as the romantic partner because she "is the most like me", so just further validating the Emily Aro/Ace possibility
i know we’re doing this alphabetically but the way i need that sebastian deep dive more than i need air…also these videos are so phenomenal!! thank you for giving them to us!!
omg thank you so much for mentioning the aro/aco headcanon! I’m ace and can totally see emily being either or both! i think if you remove the developer’s intent from scenes, there could be a platonic explanation for the tent. it’s up to the player to decide and i think that’s really cool! Some characters i’ve personally avoided marrying because of suggestive dialogue with the farmer and the character that isn’t left up to interpretation. (ex. shane, elliot, haley.) stuff like that makes me extremely uncomfortable and completely ruins it for me. its really nice to have some characters in the game that don’t have innuendos when you marry them :)
36:38 I CACKLED to TEARS. Also, I really enjoyed this video, it really helped open my eyes to what it was about Emily that was so hard for me to put my finger on. I always liked her, but her.... strangeness...? Her strange manner was hard for me to get my head around. But at one point you mention that she likes herself. Other characters are wanting to be pushed this way or that, or that have arcs where they change a bunch. But she was already happy with herself. Like you mentioned, she comes off as a more mature individual, she's "done cooking" already. I thought that was really well put. Every playthrough I've always ended up marrying Penny, but now I think I'll have to do a new playthrough with Emily.
I feel like Em is the obvious choice in hindsight. As the Farmer running around to help everyone with their problems, the one I'd prefer to end up is the one who has her life together the most. Someone who doesn't need to be fixed or be inspired majorly. Sure, that makes Emily boring to many people, but Stardew doesn't really have deep characters in the first place. This is before we get into Emily's connection to the magiks of the story. Reinvigorating the community with the forest spirits? An island of parrots, mermaids and magic crystal forges? Emily would be all over those.
Love the Emily dress! I kinda wish her portrait clothing looked more like her sprite dress. Spiritual energies, nature, and crafts are clearly her love languages. I always befriend her, but I've never dated or married her, so this was full of stuff I haven't had as much chance to explore. I really like her friendship with Shane. It feels like she's a positive influence on him. Not as powerful as the player, but still it's a sweet friendship. It's also quite a contrast from her "friendship" with Clint. It really drives home the problems with Clint.
Seeing the poll at 2:45 and how Gus was not an option just pains me. I want to marry Gus so bad, he's cute, he has his own business doing something he's passionate about, he's kind and giving. LET ME MARRY GUS!!!!
Honestly love these Fiona! Cant wait to binge the full 12 character playlist over and over. When I commented on the Alex video like a week ago, I swear you were on less than 200 subs! Looking forward to seeing you take off, well deserved. The allmighty algorithm knows whats best for me sometimes 😊
i absolutely love the reading of emily as aroace!! i’m aroace, and i so rarely hear about aromantic/asexual readings of the characters, or the experiences of aromantic/asexual players in regard to the romance and marriage aspects of the game. part of why i married shane (beyond his character just being really well written and resonant with me) is the fact that his marriage dialogue isn’t too overly flowery and romantic. like go off king tell me about that new species of fungus growing behind your mini fridge. emily is easily in my top 3 marriage candidates and seeing this analysis about her as a spouse has made me want to pursue her even more in a future save file!!
Loving this series. I finally dived into SDV in 1.6, and this digital marriage was a tricky decision. I'm a very spiritual person with a fascination for the occult as well, so I was really tied between Emily, Abigail, and Leah (she is very charming and her art is inspiring). I settled on Emily, but felt a bit lost in the marriage during the season. I think it was me not understanding her love language in the way you helped describe here. She's so sweet, but I'm afraid something is missing. If all else fails: Krobus. Nothing would connect me more to the occult than being roommates with a shadow person.
31:00 I've always read Shane as being plus sized. But i never realized how Clint is pretty much the only plus sized bachelor in the game, thought i suppose like with the possibility of Shane there might be more that we just can't tell since the sprites are small
wow, i just subbed today after coming across your channel and you posted within the hour! i had noticed a video was hidden in your stardew playlist, but i wasn’t expecting it to release today. great work and dedication to your work, i’ve loved your analysis so far!
One of my best friends whom I play Stardew on the weekends recommended me your channel and lemme just say: I'm so glad she did omfg, your dedication to editing the backdrop along with having your clothes to match is just so...?? Delightful!! I've watched this, Abigail and Elliot's deep dive as I'm trying sooo hard not to spoil myself on characters I haven't romanced yet but DAMN I am so tempted to watch the Alex video - I love having stuff like this on while I eat or draw! Thank-you for all your hard work and I genuinely can't wait for more 💗
Really loving these deep dives! Also, you can't save him! So many people adore Shane and i honestly put him on the same level as Clint. And yes I've seen all his heart scenes, but beer is still one of his favorites so he doesn't change that much.
6:22 sometimes at the stardew valley fair evelyn says "I wish Gus would include a vegetarian option. Some zucchini skewers, maybe?" so either there's fish in the burgers or there is meat other than fish in-universe but it's just uncommon. and this is only somewhat related, but in early development of the game there was a meat element to farming but it was removed
Your top? Dress? Is so beautiful oh my god:) Can't wait for this deep dive, the last three were so good: the combo of great analysis + little jokes is perfect
I love that Emily is content and has found the life she wants; and finding the same in the Farmer!! You as the farmer have found what you want to do and the desire to build a happy, content life doing what they love. I can see Emily loving to help people, yes; but doesn't necessarily desire a partner who is a "fixer-upper". She's not a 'I can fix them!' person. The overly-friendly and not overtly-romantic nature also gives me Queer-Platonic vibes honestly. Two people who just match each other and it's something thats between romantic and platonic.
this is my first video of urs i saw and im rlly impressed!!! i obviously had to click bc emily is my FAVORITE bachelorette. i tried to do a run marrying leah instead but it just didnt feel right. i had to stay loyal to my beautiful crystal wife. thank you for doing her justice
I have been in love with Stardew Valley since I started playing it back in 2017, these videos are REALLY well done!! I just binged all of your deep dives and I can't wait for the next one. You always make me laugh and the editing is so funny, I can tell how much work you put into the CRAFT 🤌✨ and I'm looking forward to the next one! My favorite part about romancing Emily is hurting Clint's feelings 🥰
33:05 it's even better. he's dressed like the governor from the luau scene (at least, it looks that way to me). lewis wants to be the governor really badly, apparently. XD
I love looking at different sdv characters recognising some parts that i see in myself. Strong dislike for things that are unenjoyable and uncomfortable like Haley, struggles with depression like Shane, being anxious and nerdy guy like Harvey and ect. But with Emily the similarity it's being the odd one out. It's fascinating to me how some people are able to embrace and accept it. For me being my true self as autistic person feels like a theat to my safety (even if it isn't) because of negative past experiences. I think I love her so much because she has broken out of her shell and I really want to be more like her.
I had never considered Emily to be a-spec, but I can definitely see it! The way she emphasises "friend" over any variation of "partner" is exactly how I was with my queerplatonic ex, and how I always imagine it to be if I ever get into a romantic relationship. Romance fades, but friends are forever! Emily might be similar in that way, and especially with the theory that she didn't have friends growing up. Friends must be very important to her. Oh, who is that farmer with her? That's her best friend! :D
I'm surprised so many people separate romance from friendship. To me, they build off of each other. IMO a bestfriends-to-lovers relationship is most appealing.
@dmin5782 Whole-heartedly agree! I'm demiro, so that's the only way I've experienced it, but like. If my future spouse is not my best friend, there is no point.
@@elenarodriguez602 My demiro only developed relatively in the last couple of years. Funnily, my like for Emily developed in the same manner too. I was not a fan of her at first (due to the hair) but I grew more friendly to her after every heart event, and she finally won me over at 8 hearts.
Fiona I am absolutely loving binge watching your videos and the different sound effects you use when putting the hearts up kill me every time (the gameboy really got me)
I’m so glad I found your channel, you’re so fun to listen to and have really good writing and perspective with your history as a narrative writer. I also love your backdrop, it’s so cute!
43:41 - My interpretation is that Clint is sad, not bitter. A classic way to protect your heart is to not engage with whatever hurt you, even is it's a person. He's not rude, he might not even be fully aware of how others can interprete his actions, he just needs the distance to give his heart a chance to heal. My reading of it isn't that Emily will say "Hi Clint" and he will be silent; my reading is that he no longer says "Hi Emily" unprompted. He's just seeking distance. Justice for my boy Clint - it's not easy being an old(er) sad man with a broken heart. Also; is there some symbolism in that Clint panics and says he's not ready to come out from his shell during the clothing therapy, but one of his main jobs in the game is to break shells? (like geodes)
26:47 As someone who's been 'tricked' into meetings that the other person later turned out to have considered a date; DON'T. DO. THIS. EVER. It makes the other person instantly get the ick for you
Emily is Clint's manic pixie dream girl who is everything that Clint WANTS to be and have but can't make himself break out of his shell and be secure like Emily is, so he desires her and follows her because she is living the life that he wants for himself but ultimately can't have
As with your other videos, I am genuinely impressed with this deep dive into Emily, especially since she's the most stable character in Pelican Town. In some ways, I wish Emily talked a little bit about her past to really cement that the development of a healthy mindset was a journey for her, and not something that's just naturally came. Either way, I've always like Emily, and I think she's a pretty good character. I would LOVE to see you go through pre-romanceable Emily and Shane! Please don't keep that one to yourself!
Binging through all these deep dives, and loving them all! Emily is such an interesting case, I love how unapologetically herself she is. But yeah, iirc all the Shane and Clint cutscenes that she's involved in were in place from the beginning, before she was added in as a spouse, so I find it fascinating how different those cutscenes read now that Emily can be romanced by the player. All the stuff with Clint and Emily annoyed me less back in the early days of Stardew bc it felt kinda fun that there was another romance storyline in the town besides our own as the player. No one else gets together over time in the town (that weren't already involved before we moved in, i.e Lewis & Marnie), even if a crush is implied and the player isn't dating either one, like between Seb and Abigail, so it made that storyline feel unique (even if it ultimately didn't go anywhere beyond Clint asking her on one 'date'). It also made Clint and Emily feel more real as characters, since Clint trying to work up the courage to ask her out over time gave a feeling of change & progression that you got to witness as you got closer to both of them. I think if those storylines had been reworked or at least tweaked after Emily was made a marriage candidate (like an additional cutscene added where Clint seems to finally start to make a positive change in his life/learn to like himself more/explicitly got over his crush and started a healthier platonic relationship with her) people wouldn't dislike him so strongly. In Stardew's early days Clint's negativity still wasn't my fav thing, but back then all it did was make me pity him and overall he came across as a pretty good guy (similar to how Emily describes him in her dialogue). As it stands now though, he comes off as annoying af since Emily's reclassification from regular NPC to marriageable NPC recontextualizes everything in the player's mind (bc of the way we understand the heart system from a meta perspective). A regular NPC having high hearts with us doesn't mean anything but platonic closeness, making Clint's actions/attitude toward Emily feel a bit less weird (if still socially awk), but a marriageable NPC having high hearts basically guarantees interest in the player, so it now reads as super tone deaf on Clint's part. At least he does have like ONE line of dialogue now that talks about him trying online dating, which is nice I guess (i've seen it in-game but it's not on the wiki, so maybe added in 1.6?), but it doesn't quite feel like enough of an arc for him, and isn't really enough to balance out the annoyingness of his constant pity party.
This is the first time I’ve ever really considered Emily, she always seemed so like…silly (and her sprite is a bit wild lol) but her emotional depth is super sweet, thanks for shedding light on her!
i binge watched your entire series thus far. looking forward to the next videos you put out! just wanted to comment that i appreciate the effort you put into your setup (the props and your clearly long written, well-detailed scripts) keep up the good work!!!
After watching this one i will be officially caught up! My first one was krobus. The thoroughness of your analysis makes my heart so happy! I am the type to want every tidbit of info on my favorite things, but lack the energy to do the research. These videos are giving me life :)
6:04 I once tried to give Emily an opal because I was using Steven Universe logic and I figured she'd like it. She did not. Don't make my mistakes, Opal is just a mineral in Stardew Valley
I want to say thank you so much for reigniting my interest in Stardew! I hadn't played in a while and didn't see a reason to pick it back up, but your videos reminded me there's still a lot to do enjoy even in regards to the characters. It's a game that helps me destress so easily. Your videos give the same feeling, really fun and relaxed.
haven't finished the video yet, but I've watched your other three and I just want to say I love this series so much. You have such a chill vibe - it's like a mix between listening to a video essay and listening to a friend infodump about their hyperfixation. Like there's a lot of thought and structure to these videos, but they also don't have that same pretentiousness that video essays can sometimes have, if that makes sense? Very fun to listen to, makes me want to get back into playing Stardew Valley even though I absolutely do not have the time for that lol
I just started playing Stardew solely to romance my bbg Harvey. I am very interested in learning all of the characters’ stories, but I don’t want to divorce my malewife or start a new save, so your videos are perfect to finish all their arcs after getting to the eight heart limit with the other bachelors and bachelorettes. Thank you for all the work you put into these 🙏🏼 I love longform videos to listen to while I crochet, these are perfect to indulge both my interests
18:48 the other thing that surprises me about the “secret” hobby is that she regular does like a dance aerobics class every Tuesday. Or Is that more weights based?
i feel like clint is a very sweet and shy guy. to me, he seems like the kind of guy who-yeah, take niceness as “maybe i have a chance”, but there’s a chance it’s also that emily is just very pretty, her mannerisms are cute or attractive to him, she exudes confidence and self love-two things he doesn’t have-and all of that combined has clint crushing over her. he seems beyond socially awkward and possibly has social anxiety-which makes being a blacksmith easy for him because it means he can work in peace by himself, with the occasional customer (us) who only comes in to find ore in geodes and make new tools. i don’t think he’s a bad guy or a creepy guy, he’s just a little weird bc he’s incredibly shy and introverted and socially awkward. he’s pretty self pitying, and his personality can make him seem miserable and awkward to be around, but it’s kind of hard to break out if that when you’re in that state, especially once you get older and set in your ways. also, i don’t think he doesn’t look at her out of anger or malice or anything. i think he’s too sad and depressed to look at emily because the player is now dating her/has a thing with her, especially since initially the player was the one helping clint out to date her, only to feel defeated and somewhat betrayed when emily pursues the player instead, and we don’t seem to be rejecting it.
Me: *starts booing when you pull the Clint portrait*
Video: cues booing sound effect
hahahahaha
@@dmin5782 Yeah I loved that. I have a secret headcanon/wish that the Wizard should make her his apprentice heh
@@kooriicoladaMy headcanon is that Emily is his secret daughter, born from an affair with a mermaid.
She already showcases psychedelic magic like a mermaid. Both the Wizard and her display interest in merpeople in-game, as well.
@@dmin5782 oooh that's a really fun theory!
@@dmin5782Dang, that would make emily and abigail half sisters 🤯
The fact that the divorce sections are always like the last two minutes of the video kills me because I forget that it’s coming EVERY TIME SOMEHOW 😅😂
hahahaha
Immediately after the release the fan discourse around Shane was completely insane. Everyone was going mad with the desire to "fix" him. I suspect that's why ConcernedApe jumped on promoting him to romancable, and Emily got to ride his coat tails. Everyone wanted to take Shane to bone town, holy hell
hahaha wow… who would want to do that…. not me!!! haha…
@@fionasangsterhahahah no same in my first game i dated 2 people and it was haley and shane, sooooo….
I like Shane’s story, but don’t like that he doesn’t ACTUALLY change after marriage… his room speaks for itself

2:43 unrelated but I’m so sour that Marnie lost this poll, she’s my exact type and I think she’s so pretty. I wanna save her from her dead end relationship with that coward Mayor Lewis, I would treat her right frfr 😤

OMG that's the governor's look Lewis is wearing! I think it shows he wants to be a bit more important than he is
YOOOOOOOOOOOO ur so fuckin smart
There’s an Easter egg hidden object in game that confirms that for me
New headcanon that the clothes u can buy at Sandy’s Oasis are actually made by Emily since tailoring is her passion, and Sandy gives her space in the store to sell
@@dmin5782the online store thing is SUCH a good concept. ill dedicate the inevitable fanfic using this idea to you 🖤🤣
@@kaylahaasLOL thanks 😄
Stardew's story is practically made for headcanons like this. Otherwise, there'd be too much holes.
I like Emily because she already has herself sorted, unlike the other characters.
I find it kinda funny that she became one of the Bachelorettes. At the same time, Shane became a bachelor since he's in a little bit of a rough patch with some midlife crisis sprinkled in there.
Low key. Thats why i kinda ship them… the one with their life together x the one who needs the most stability.
Honestly? As an aroace person who loves their friends very much, Emily's ways of expressing love are so relatable:D
She may not be aro or ace herself, but I still appreciate how I can vibe with her because of that trait and non-explicit expressions of romance
I truly agree, especially when she is only one who just cuddles with you during her 10 and 14 heart event instead kissing, it’s so sweet!
same as ana sexual person! She was always my first, lovre the way she demostrate affection
although I'm sure the fact that she was not originally planned as a dateable character plays a lot into her early heart scenes being different than most, I love that we get to pursue someone who is more secure in their lives.
1000000000000000% !!! if we saw him deal with rejection in a good way it would go SO far in showing that hes not a "nice guy" hes an actual nice guy!!
I like your ideas with him! I wonder if there are any good mods that expand his story in a good way like that. I really want like him as a character (I wish he was a romantic candidate!), but he’s kinda awful and doesn’t change in game :[
i love this! i love clint-but then again, i’m only like 20 mins in so who knows lmfao

Overjoyed to know that I was right, 11k subs and counting as of late
@jachromium785 23k and counting!! I'm absolutely loving the content, love people talking about their special interests in such depth
I never really thought about the fact that her relationship is less explicitly romantic before. It's also sad that so many of her scenes are infiltrated by Clint. Almost makes you wonder if she was trying to dissuade him. She's not stupid, I'm sure she's aware he likes her like that.
Honestly hoping that you don't stop at just the dateable characters, it would be really interesting to hear about everyone
Especially our king Linus
I want a video on George he’s my favourite
I don't know if anyone else has mentioned the romantic tension between Emily and Sandy, especially in the Expanded Mod! Sandy comes to visit Emily in town way more and honestly, I see them being that type of lesbian who doesn't realize your best friend is in love with you lmao
I thought Sandy and Emily were cousins?
damn, i also thought so, but nope! they are considered friends!
i never vibed with emily since her surface level of being into new age spirituality didn’t click with me. we have very different outlooks on the world in a way that kind of outright conflicts. also clint. enough said on him. but this did give me a bit of additional appreciation for her! she’s a good contrast to the other stories which focus so much on helping the other person through a big emotional problem. i feel like clint’s presence is to make up for that though, unfortunately. regardless of me not vibing with her romantically, she’s still nice and a unique addition to stardews world
two giiiirls sharing a sleeping bag no feet apart 'cus they're ....very good friends
Thank you for analyzing her so deeply and genuinely, I definitely want to marry her in my game next!!
so interesting thank you for your insight!!
And obviously, not all blacksmiths and foundry workers :)
Also to Fiona, just found you from the Krobus video, I've been binging and listening to them while casting aluminum at work. The in depth stardew analysis content is great, thank you :3
I am pretty sure that would count as "plus sized" since the term originally just referred to larger sized clothing. It just means a bigger than average person
Gus also looks like a plus size, and he's very much a loved character.
@@catscanhavelittleasalami this!!! gus is 100% plus sized lol😭
I found my new favorite Stardew Valley podcast channel.
The only things motivating me on a Monday. 😂
I’ve seen a lot of fan art that interpret her outfit like this, too!
as someone who's both aromantic and asexual you could totally interpret your relationship with emily as some form of queerplatonic. i'm kinda surprised i never noticed (tho i don't think i even knew what a qpr was on my 1st playthrough lol)
as always, wonderful video ✨✨
Okay but the emily themed outfit is cute! Emily seems so relatable as a character.
i looove emily and shane's little friendship. unlikely bonds are fun c: super glad you included them!
49:25 ... maybe she only calls you her friend bc she doesnt wanna get sent to turbo hell or whatever jksdfjkdsljg

I honestly looove these deep dives. A very nice and fun niche to have (also means once we are done we get a 10 hour playlist to binge)
Everyone hates clint, so hearing you point out how "Meh..." was that of all of the guys /he's/ the one painted in this light had me saying "YES, SHE GETS IT", so, thank you ♡
In one hand, I like that there's flawed characters in Stardew that you can dislike so easily.
👍
oh wow! that is so heartwarming to hear, i’m so glad that you learned more about our wonderful wife ❤️
you genuinely changed my mind on alex i can’t wait to see the rest of these!
I cannot describe how surreal it is to hear you say in this video that you have only 118 subscribers as of filming, and just over 800 at time of editing, and see that in the 3 weeks this video has been up youve reached 4.4 thousand. Obviously I'm sure it's much more surreal from your end but i guarantee it's deserved, these videos are all superb and i cannot wait to see what else you might post and talk about, you're extremely well spoken and also hilarious, and clearly passionate about SV
omg thank you 😭 extremely surreal!! i feel so lucky!!
Yep- people who shine like Emily always attract moths
I always saw emily's sprite as having a red dress with a mostly opaque fabric but sheer sleeves, for what it's worth
She dances in front of everyone at the luau so is her hobby really a secret? Loving this video series, great work!
The difference is magic. The dance she gives you seems to be an actual display of illusion magic, very similar to the mermaid's song in the night market.
Emily herself has very mermaid-ish traits too, from her appearance to personality to even her themes.
you did shane dirty with that photo 😭 I’m a bit nervous for your take on shane, but excited for yours on leah
haha no need to be nervous he is my problematic fave
It's really funny to me to see Penny's 14 heart rug and bed in Emily's 14 heart event. Imagine moving in with your closest friend / wife and then you sleep in the bed her ex-wife bought for her. That's so funny to me. Great video!!!
Every time you bring up shane in these videos my brain is like "guess who's back, back again"
Hope you'll continue afterwards with the non-romancables :)
About Emilys care for the outsiders and healthy self-love: From my paedagogical point of view I agree, that this might've developed through experiences of being herself bullied and growing by that into self-love instead of hatred and taking venegance for her pain.
Idk anyways love ur context and I hope you get lots of fame off these vids
thank u! i’m totally gonna do a lore video, i need to analyse the cultural significance of the flower dance more than i need air
36:38
I CACKLED to TEARS.
The allmighty algorithm knows whats best for me sometimes 😊
thank you!!! yeah the growth has been insane 😭 thank you youtube gods
56:26 girl this made me scream 😭 i just spent 3 days watching JUST your videos, i'm loving this series
i absolutely love the reading of emily as aroace!! i’m aroace, and i so rarely hear about aromantic/asexual readings of the characters, or the experiences of aromantic/asexual players in regard to the romance and marriage aspects of the game. part of why i married shane (beyond his character just being really well written and resonant with me) is the fact that his marriage dialogue isn’t too overly flowery and romantic. like go off king tell me about that new species of fungus growing behind your mini fridge. emily is easily in my top 3 marriage candidates and seeing this analysis about her as a spouse has made me want to pursue her even more in a future save file!!
Nothing would connect me more to the occult than being roommates with a shadow person.
my favorite pastime lately has been listening to these videos while playing stardew, double the enrichment haha!
31:00 I've always read Shane as being plus sized. But i never realized how Clint is pretty much the only plus sized bachelor in the game, thought i suppose like with the possibility of Shane there might be more that we just can't tell since the sprites are small
hm he does have a dialogue line about gaining weight but then when you marry him he says he's lost weight so ?
screamed when i saw this i love these deep dives so much 😭
wow, i just subbed today after coming across your channel and you posted within the hour! i had noticed a video was hidden in your stardew playlist, but i wasn’t expecting it to release today. great work and dedication to your work, i’ve loved your analysis so far!
thank you!! idk how to stop the hidden video thing from happening lmao but i guess it’s like a little teaser 😝
And yes I've seen all his heart scenes, but beer is still one of his favorites so he doesn't change that much.
we will talk about my problematic fave in sweet time ❤️
6:22 sometimes at the stardew valley fair evelyn says "I wish Gus would include a vegetarian option. Some zucchini skewers, maybe?" so either there's fish in the burgers or there is meat other than fish in-universe but it's just uncommon. and this is only somewhat related, but in early development of the game there was a meat element to farming but it was removed
Let's go!! These videos are sooo good (Stardew Valley is consuming my life)
Your top?
My favorite part about romancing Emily is hurting Clint's feelings 🥰
hahahahahaha love that, thank you !!
Every video can be a Shane video, I won’t mind
I've never quite clicked with Emily, but this video was still an absolute joy to watch.
@dmin5782 It was also the hair that held me back lol 😆
im so glad you like shane. i want that wizard. i want that wizard bad.
First a Mr Blobby jumpscare, now a destiel jumpscare?? Girl, my heart can't take it.
I still get a hearty giggle every time you hold up the picture of passed out shane
DO. THIS. EVER.
It makes the other person instantly get the ick for you
19:56 if you talk to emily at that festival she says something about how the snowman clint was working on looked so bad she had to fix it
Emily is Clint's manic pixie dream girl who is everything that Clint WANTS to be and have but can't make himself break out of his shell and be secure like Emily is, so he desires her and follows her because she is living the life that he wants for himself but ultimately can't have
I’m so happy I found your channel! You’re so funny and I love listening to these series as I cook and clean
Please don't keep that one to yourself!
yay good to know! i def will, this hyperfixation knows no bounds
This is the first time I’ve ever really considered Emily, she always seemed so like…silly (and her sprite is a bit wild lol) but her emotional depth is super sweet, thanks for shedding light on her!
i binge watched your entire series thus far. looking forward to the next videos you put out! just wanted to comment that i appreciate the effort you put into your setup (the props and your clearly long written, well-detailed scripts)
keep up the good work!!!
I looove these vids, I find the way you speak so relaxing and your vids have been my go to as I learn crochet lately!
also not you using the drunk passed out shane pic as a reference photo 😭💀
Very fun to listen to, makes me want to get back into playing Stardew Valley even though I absolutely do not have the time for that lol
aw what lovely feedback! thank you!!
Or Is that more weights based?
just watched back harvey's 6 heart (about the class) and they seem to literally just be turning on the spot hahaha
i feel like clint is a very sweet and shy guy. to me, he seems like the kind of guy who-yeah, take niceness as “maybe i have a chance”, but there’s a chance it’s also that emily is just very pretty, her mannerisms are cute or attractive to him, she exudes confidence and self love-two things he doesn’t have-and all of that combined has clint crushing over her. he seems beyond socially awkward and possibly has social anxiety-which makes being a blacksmith easy for him because it means he can work in peace by himself, with the occasional customer (us) who only comes in to find ore in geodes and make new tools. i don’t think he’s a bad guy or a creepy guy, he’s just a little weird bc he’s incredibly shy and introverted and socially awkward. he’s pretty self pitying, and his personality can make him seem miserable and awkward to be around, but it’s kind of hard to break out if that when you’re in that state, especially once you get older and set in your ways. also, i don’t think he doesn’t look at her out of anger or malice or anything. i think he’s too sad and depressed to look at emily because the player is now dating her/has a thing with her, especially since initially the player was the one helping clint out to date her, only to feel defeated and somewhat betrayed when emily pursues the player instead, and we don’t seem to be rejecting it.
So excited for this series! I can't wait to see all the deep dives of the characters!
I have been binging your videos, these are EXACTLY the kind of videos I needed for Stardew Valley. Can’t wait for more!
