Kmart - Kingston / Edwardsville, PA *Now Closing*

- Kmart - Kingston / Edwardsville, PA. This is one of just 4 remaining Kmart stores within Pennsylvania. After August 2020, it will be one of only 2 locations left as 2 are currently closing. You'll see both in upcoming videos. This particular location was updated and it may possibly be due to flooding which closed almost all of the shopping center back in 2011. Only the Kmart remains which is ironic. Trouble is brewing, however, as much of store is downsizing, sections closed off, and merchandise that is here seems to be what's left from the warehouses / distribution center. Could the end be near? It seems likely. Could the virus play a role in the current situation? Again, it could be likely but only time will tell what is really happening here.

There is no obligation and I'm not asking you to! All proceeds go toward expenses involved in travelling to film for you guys. I do not make a profit. Thank you! - Розваги
That wasn’t a Hill’s at the end, it was a Redners Warehouse Market. The Hill’s (then Ames) was the anchor store at the West Side Mall in Edwardsville (just down the avenue about two miles). This K-Mart actually does really well in the area, that’s why they keep bringing it back after every flood
I'm an employee for this kmart and I must say you guys did an amazing job with the video! It is sad to see this store so empty from what it use to be and is sad so many people think we are closing and the fact we are the only store in that shopping center says alot. This store has been through ever flood that has hit that area and we always come back. But like a lot of businesses this virus hurt us bad. Hoping we survie!
From what I was told the reason for blocking off is downsizing. This store was much fuller until the past 6 months. Not a good sign.
It didn't look like this back in February.
Wow! Thats sad i miss my childhood stores like k-mart,toys "R" us, woolworths, sears,KB toys so many great stores of the 80's and 90's.
I do agree & I miss old kid - family commercials on Nickelodeon, old Cartoon Network / blockbuster - old video stores ( before we have Netflix, HULU, other streaming channel ) . I was born in November 1984. @ M Cook
@@Mrcruisefever1 yeah i was born in june 1983. Boy we grew up in the best times back when toys where awesome now kids dont even know what good toys are its all about ipads and phones and tiktok.
What is Woolworths
@@parkertaylor8917 it was like wal-mart or k-mart of its day a department store that had everything. There is videos of it on youtube type in "woolworths 1991 signal hill mall"
Don’t forget Grants and Pay less shoes and TG&Y maybe too old for you I was born in 1961
Even seeing these remaining Kmarts that AREN'T going out of business (yet) is a bit depressing. That is ironic that only Kmart and LJS are the only remaining businesses in that plaza.
You're very likely right about them likely trying to empty out the warehouses of old merchandise, based on those Christmas sweaters. Makes me wish I still had a Kmart nearby, I'd be scouring the toy section for old stock diecast models, you never know what gems might be found.
Another great video, love seeing all these videos lately, can't wait for the next one!
When I went earlier this month I found incredible hulk toys from 2003 lol. Marked down to $1 so I bought a couple
Layaway brings back memories of the sixties , I was about 10 and my mom God Bless couldn’t really afford some items right away . Really goo$ segment Wallie .
I have a weird feeling that Kmart is gonna become Defunct at the end of this year
Dalmation Productions / Sears Productions same they have less than 50 stores, and there sneaking more closures.
@@TotosSword they are closing down 2 in Puerto Rico 2 in California the last Kmart in North Dakota the Last Kmart in New Hampshire it just sucks I honestly don't even care about it closing
Dalmation Productions / Sears Productions same, ive become immune to it.
Dalmation Productions / Sears Productions It's a store that's never been relevant
It'll probably not be until next, Fast Eddie wants to squeeze every last penny out of these places. Plus, Guam will live on, it's a tourist attraction on the island.
That red building in the background Wally is actually a redner's
I'm pretty sure the reason this Kmart looks newer is because it was renovated after a flood in 2011
in fairness a handful of stores were renovated under Lampert, but not very many (Des Plaines, IL was their most recent one in 2015).
@@jackson5116 Didn't that one get the K-Fresh renovation?
@@OnyxDash Yeah, a few Chicagoland ones got that (Des Plaines and Norridge are ones I know of off the top of my head).
Per this article (www.citizensvoice.com/news/kmart-sues-mark-plaza-owners/article_c85bec9b-f452-53a5-be57-2e79c6ecef3f.html), the reason the rest of the plaza was closed was because Kmart was suing the owners of the plaza for $9.2 million in damages. The plaza owners were supposed to provide better drainage and better protection from flood damage and they did not. The plaza owners did not want to be on the hook for the bill and thus shut down the rest of the stores. Quite a shame since the rest of the businesses suffered including a Redner's Grocery Store. Unsure what the plaza will do when Kmart closes and no longer pursues them for the bill.
Yes I saw pics from that flood the water was up to the roof thru the whole shopping center. Kmart emptied out the store when the flood wS forecasted. Then the whole store was redone and I think there was some kind of tax breaks for them reopening.
I live near there that was a Grocery Store call Redner's.
yeah, I live near a redners that used to be a ames/hills
Shoulda looked behind some of those walled off sections for more Little Caesar's pizza bags 😁
Why the hell is a customer still wearing a Sheepers mask?
I'm local to the area. Aside from Kmart, everything else is abandoned due to flooding. The store in question was a Redner's grocery store.
The K-mart my dad and grandma would shop at most frequently.
First memory here: Dad bought me the starcraft expansion pack the day after playing my cousins disc. (Back when K-mart had the electronic section in the front left corner).
Last memory here: Buying 2 Purolator engine oil filters, both for $6 and picking up my 2020 fishing license.

R.I P. popcorn smell at the entrance😢
I have a feeling by next year that will no Kmarts left so sad, thanks for sharing sir.
It's great hearing inxs new sensation over the pa. Great band from the 80s and 90s.
This store seems a bit more updated and nice. Always great to see you and Kayla go on your Kmart adventures!
I really like how you see the pallets stacked up in the back of the store, we use to do that back in the kmart I worked and it became Big Kmart in 2010 but from the time I worked there from 2011-2014 that's how we stacked the pallets up outside.
I love watching your videos. When I’ve had a hard day at my first job I always watch these before I go to my second one and I feel so much better. Thanks Wallie & Kayla!
That's a sad video. I have shopped that K-mart hundreds of times. I remember going as a child and it was a booming town. How things have changed... Thanks for the great video.
Very nice Kmart I just wish someone would of bought the Kmart name maybe like 5 years ago and possibly make a comeback how sad 😥
It would be better all the remaining Kmarts to close and eddy sell the name and maybe they can make a comeback.
@@blueinternet4336 It would be nice but I'm not holding my breath on that.
I’m glad you were able to film it while it still looks halfway decent. It even had a good amount of customers for K Mart. I miss the super K we used to have in Homewood Il. Unfortunately it became a Walmart. Thanks for the awesome video.
The Super Kmart where I live in Louisiana closed a few years ago and became a super Target.
Great video of what seems to be an awesome store! It's sad what appears to be going on with the company. I've wanted to film a Kmart store for a while, and I'm trying to keep hope alive in spite of everything. Keep up your great work!
Every time I think of a #Kmart hon now...I think of YOU and your Adorable wifey Kayla...Thank you for putting the #History of this much loved store and also #Hills and #AMES which are now on the Internet FOREVER 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I worked at this one before I moved back here. This was a nice store and had a great time there! Thanks for the video!!!
I went to this one on a road trip recently. The video definitely does not do justice to how empty it actually was.
What a great video.I loved it.I literally cried when mine closed. My late mother worked at our branch when I was a young girl.
I use to work 3rd shift Kmart in Ann Arbor ,Michigan back in 99 The security cameras didn't work it was crazy there .
Over the Holidays Pulling in 40 hours another 30 hours over time
This may be one of the stores which is going through quiet closure. Kmart now only has about 40 or so stores left.
All the remaining non-liquidating stores are closing off sections and dismantling shelves.
This just made my day my favorite UA-cam’r doing a video of a Kmart my parents shopped at in the 1980’s I mentioned this Kmart in a comment a while back that other business was a REDNER’S warehouse market the water went up to the Kmart sign on the front of the building
I was born in 2010 I was old enough to be around kmart when it was open
I grew up across the river in Wilkes barre. There was a Kmart there that closed down this year. If I remember correctly “The Hills” building was actually a Redners food market. Closed up shop after the flood.
That's a neat way to say that THE AWESOME '80s MUSIC they peek through the PA system CAN BE HAZARDOUS FOR YOUR FINANCIAL HEALTH! (love the music, not what YT makes as "copyright proxy").
At least the acoustic tiles of the roof of that (100K sq. ft. or so) Kmart were all repaired, which didn't happen in mine (at least they repaired the lights with LED's).
PS: I didn't caught the leaks at the end....
That is so cool a Kmart building is still open and going and that old K-mart kart was pretty Cool to see like that wow
Walle you make my day better all the time bro.
I actually live near this Kmart! I explored it a couple weeks ago, i saw the M on the ground, my friend picked it up but i didn't XD.
I also think that that whole shopping center closed due to the 2011 flood, Kmart was the only one with the insurance to afford it.
That's kind of what they did in one of the last K-Marts in Yorktown, VA. Sections were closed off and customer space and inventory was compressed before they announced closure.
wow a k-mart. i don't got any in my area. but yea your videos give me something to watch, take my mind off stuff. keep the good work up. & k-mart needs money right now, they hurting big time. think we might see some stores go out next year.
Hi there. Here's a bit of history for this area. Back in 2002 the mall flooded and rebuilt. All stores and restaurants remained. In 2011 another flood killed the plaza. The Redners store did not rebuild again. The plaza had a Fashion Bug (bankrupt) a restaurant, Jim Dandy's also closed up after the second flood. The other smaller abandoned building used to be a discount mattress showroom. The flood destroyed that building and is in disrepair. The Kmart was the only store that renovated. With Kmart being under Chapter 11, most suppliers have refused to allow their products to sell. The automotive and electronics departments were removed to consolidate what this store has left.
Good job guys. I love the good old Kmart grew up with it miss it so much I’m in California. 👍👊💪
Awesome video 👌👍 man you rock
Fellow metalhead though I play more of the melodic, old-school, traditional, power-prog, AOR kinda bands. As for your question on the Hills store. It was not here - it was a little North in the West Side Mall. The HIlls opened about October 1985. I was there at the grand opening and met USFL/NFL running back Herschel Walker. In early 1987, the now defunct West Side Mall was built and a side entrance was carved out of the side of Hills to open inside of the mall. The West Side Mall was beautiful but could not compete with Wyoming Valley Mall in Wilkes-Barre. Around 1996/1997, the main structure of the West Side Mall was torn down and looks more like the strip mall it was before West Side Mall was built. Though there were other properties built to the side of the Price Chopper Supermarket that are billed as the "West Side Mall," the original mall from '87 had a large food court, water fountain, and totally 80's decor. Hills morphed into Ames and closed circa 2002. Will be glad to give you other history of stores in W-B. There was also a Hills in the East End Centre in Wilkes-Barre and a Zayre that turned into an Ames where Burlington Coat Factory now sits. To the right of Burlington Coat Factory is Home Depot - this was formerly Sunshine Market grocery store until about 1995. I miss those older stores.
I can confirm that the red "Hills" building wasn't actually a Hills. Apparently it was "Redner's Warehouse Market".
Great video Wallie
My first real job was at a k Mart. How the mighty have fallen. Be safe Wallie and Kayla I your explorations.
So many comments from locals on this video. I remember going to this store in the 80's and early 90's with my family. At one point there was a Sunshine Market (grocery store) a few spots to the left of Kmart as well as a second location of a local restaurant chain (that closed when the people running it retired) named Jim Dandy's. I forget what else was in the plaza at that time (maybe a Pic-Way shoe store?).
As many other people mentioned already though, this place was mostly underwater in 2011 when the Susquehanna River flooded the plaza and the store at the other end was a grocery store named Redner's (based out of Reading or so I think in PA). The thing that amuses me is that this area (Wilkes-Barre, Kingston, etc) actually had THREE Kmarts at one point. One was converted into a grocery store from a chain called Gerrity's. Though that Kmart closed in 2003 or so. Plus you have the Wilkes-Barre Township one that closed at the beginning of this year along Route 309.
There's also a still empty Kmart in Pittston, PA and one that was partially repurposed into a 'bounce center' (basically lotsa trampolines in there) in Dickson City, PA plus the one in Moosic, PA that was being converted into a Shop-Rite when the pandemic hit.
But if you're looking for former Hill's/Ames stores Wallie there WAS one in the East End Centre along Kidder Street. However they recently began ripping apart the front facade of that to make a bunch of smaller shops out of the bigger store. That same shopping center also once housed a Phar Mor store, which sat empty for a LONG time until Sears took it over for one of their 'outlet' stores (basically scratch n dent appliances at horrible 'discounts'). Eddie Lamprey abandoned the place in the middle of the lease if I remember correctly.
Wow. It brings back memories of my childhood.
The red store that is abandoned use to been Redner’s Warehouse Market
Kmart is way better than walmart any day!!
Kmart will be gone by 2021 the way things are going. I have already forgotten what an open Kmart looks like. Thanks for your channel.
Think the one store in the fenced off section was a grocery store called Redner's Warehouse Markets. It was damaged by back to back tropical storms in 2011.
Also I can confirm that was not a hills and instead i believe a Redner's. Correct me if I'm wrong on the store but the Red Roof one was Redner's.
that kmart cart at 3:35 is a wicked find man
Love the Kmart videos.
It was not a Hills. It was a supermarket called Redners. This was at one point a very busy shopping center in my youth. Too many floods have driven out businesses. Only reason the KMart stays in business is because it is apparently one of the highest grossing KMarts still around. I can remember many many trips to this KMart for toys and other items.
I remember those stores. My aunt worked at Kmart and I used to go to the old redners there
I miss m k-mart up here in buffalo ny and my toys are us to and my sears the 80s and 90s rocked
Yeah I love your videos and I used to live in that area a long time ago
I used to stop at this Kmart occasionally before work when I was running early. I worked about a minute up the ave. from this location and never found this Kmart without cars in its parking lot (people were always bustling in and out). The last time I was in the store was in early March and I do not remember any of it being sectioned off. The store was certainly reworked and first thoughts are of the virus, but maybe it is on a list of future closures. As the other people were saying, that store in the back was a Redner's warehouse before the flood along with various other stores that either never reopened or relocated such as Dollar Tree, Bounce House, two restaurants of some sort and some mattress store were all behind that fence back in 2010. I think this Kmart will be one of the last ones to go and I think it would surprise me when it does, along with the other people in the area, because this is one of the only shopping stores they can visit without having to take a trip to Wilkes Barre. There are no Walmart's, Target's, Big Lots, etc. in this area, making it one of the only big stores to shop at in the area with the exception of Market 32 (formerly Price Chopper).
P.s. There was a Nathan's Hot Dogs in this store that never came back after the flood.
The Kmart near me in Los Altos Gateway in or near long Beach is like this with bare sections of the store being sectioned off with shelving.
Woohoo! Another Kmart video!
It's painfully obvious they're slowly shrinking inventory on the way to closure.
Wow this store looks clean and neat. It is very alarming they are closing off parts of the store. It doesn't look good at all for Kmart or Sears. The North Canton Kmart had those same Christmas/holiday sweaters till they closed in February.
That be a great bowling alley with how wide and clean the store was left.
Flood of 2011 gutted this Kmart and the Wilkes Barre closed just a few months ago
Redners was on the opposite end and Dollar general was in the elbow of the shopping center but the rest of the shopping center sits abandoned after the flood which was to the roof in 2011
Wow am surprised I thought they all went out of business
Back in 2011 that shopping center in Edwardsville pa was flooded by the susquehanna river the whole shopping center was under like 10 feet of water and the grocery store that's closed at the other end use the be a redners warehouse market it's a grocery store chain based out of reading pa
That closed store was not a Hills, although there was another one a few miles away. Pretty sure that was a grocery store. I grew up a mile away and my mom and I would go to that Long John Silvers so many times. That Kmart has flooded many times over the years as Toby’s creek runs right behind what is a low parking lot. Kind of amazing it’s still open, but looks like not for long...
If this is where I think it was, I saw this K-Mart from the high way and came to this channel knowing I'd find it.
Your hitting Columbia K-mart in Lancaster? If you haven't hit that one yet it is a dive. A lot of open area which means the notice could be coming down soon. The first section that was blocked off looked like the old auto center portion, the spot at 8:09 looks like an electronics section. At the old Sears store I worked at we had Christmas stuff still out in the Spring & early Summer prior to the announcement for closing. By now they should have had a patio section set up for summer and huge selection of grills.
11:32 I'm pretty sure that was Eddie up there who had an accident
Sadly this Kmart and the only other Kmart left in Pennsylvania is closing mid April 2021
How you found another Kmart at your State? This store is not closing yet.
Weirdest Kmart lay out ever! It's like they know this is still one of their most profitable locations and want to keep it going for as long as possible, but new stock is barely coming in anymore. Pretty sure this building will be on the urban exploring list in no less than a years time :/
Love the vid
Bro That is cool!
It's a liquidation without the signs. Vendors have pretty much stopped shipping to Kmart, so they have to shrink the store. They don't have much merchandise to fill that huge building!
I love Nathan's hotdogs. So good. Great video
According to a Forbes magazine article there are 34 stores still open as of may 2020. The article doesn't say anything about any wearhouses.
I am wondering if this is a store that they are downsizing the space on and repurposing the real estate space by subleasing or flipping possibly through Seritage Growth Properties?
It's not a Seritage property and because of the flood potential the property is pretty much worthless on the market.
Yay more kmart video's
Good video
I think this store had some flooding in 1996, 2004, and the big one in 2011. I'm from the area and stopped shopping at this store around this time when the store was getting blocked off. Last spring I was there to look for bikes or remote control vehicles because the pandemic had me bored to the extreme. There were a few employees installing the walling to block off the areas of the store. Later I read from some newly released news that the clothing manufacturer had stopped supply because Kmart defaulted on payments for several months or so. Supply halted. Done. So if you look the manufacture dates on the newest clothing is stamped 5/2019.
I was there once in October and November but that was the last time for me. I don't like going to the Liquidations for obvious reasons. There's not much in there as Wallie said.
On a side note: I was frequently in this store around the time it was still a nice shopping center. The early 00's 2003 & 2004...I'd stop by for car detailing stuff like that often..atleast 1x every 2 weeks back then. I was a college on campus student at Misericordia University and would travel down into town..My grandparents lived in Kingston and My Parents live in Wyoming so I'd be home maybe once a weekend. I don't remember going to this store as a child with my parents.
*In 2004 There was Redners, Dollar General, Dollar Tree, Payless Shoes, Jim Dandy's restaurant and a mattress/furniture place up towards the road. Any other stores I cannot remember..There may have been some I missed.
Why I eat my triple whopper I loved this video. Crazy enough I was out in Midland Tx today and wanted a lick for my box truck so I decided to go to u haul and guess what?? Yep a former Kmart turned u haul the cool story is I was told the store closed in 2002 and they repurposed the building it sat abandoned from 2002 to 2018. I got to tour it it was full off storage buildings but they still had the K Vents if you ever stop through there Wally it’s worth the trip and ask Jessica for a tour. Love your work man keep it going.
Ps I meant lock not lick oh well god bless.😂😂😂
That K mart used to be Arlands department store in the very early 70s
well sadly where i am there are no k-mart stores left to be had. one was hanging on in burlington washington but that since closed in april and all thats left is nothing no sears nothing. the last sears closed in december and that was that. lots of the closings of k-marts and sears were quietly done where no one knew when the stores were to close and when they were to liquidate everything
I have a feeling that the end is near. Thanks a lot Eddie the Clown Lampert
Hi wallieb26 that shopping center with the Kmart the building that was behind that you were saying it was a hills I cant find anything about that being a hills but it was a Redner's Warehouse Market which was a grocery store that was their but never reopened after the flood in 2011
I miss going to Kmart with my mom
out of bussiness sale. 10 -30% off everything. as off 2-6-21. shame last one in my part anyway. store is blocked off with shelving. also f the long john silvers at the kmart, i don't think it will last much longer as of the only store in the shopping center is kmart. but as of now, the store has seen more than it has in years. waited 20 minutes in line for only a few soap items. the receipts are much smaller than past. only item purchased. still play music in store though. i live like 10 minutes away. surprised me when i went past signs of out of business sale signs.
Those 2-3 wired carts in that bunch are Lowe’s Carts.
It’s a great day to be at Kmart😍😍 and at 12:07 I hear Kylie Minogue lol.
This store is going to close soon. The company is probably struggling to keep merchandise in the store but ether the rent is super cheep or the lease doesn't end soon so there not liquidating yet.
I live in edwardsville I miss kmart I miss that whole shopping center and that was a grocery store Redners

Wasn't a Hills it was a Redners supermarket. Kmart only survived at the time cause it wasn't flooded as bad. They still had to gut the front of the store a bit and remodel it. I do remember after it reopened after the flood remodel that it did have a funky musky smell to it. Over time the smell did lesson. It was the second biggest one in the area. The one not to far away in Wilkes-Barre was slightly bigger. Pittston location was the smallest one but living in Pittston it was the one I was at the most.
And in the flood before it was Redner's, it was a sunshine market I think.
Alot of our stores had just opened back up from Pandemic, and alot have no merchandise. Alot still have Christmas, easter, new years items they are trying to get rid of. We had anothe kmart not to far from here that they closed and it was what you would think a busier store.
The shopping cart shown with the steel was called the War Wagon we used it to pick up money at the registers
That Chevy Cavalier shirt is fire.
It's a nice store on first glance - then you spot the oddly wide aisles, false walls and the dwindling lack of merchandise the farther you go.
I'm sure the store employees are doing the best they can, but the writing is on the wall for the store and eventually this brand name.
I've been to that Kmart or before but I prefer the one on 309 which is now closed the one on 309 was closer to me and that was actually in Wilkes-Barre township
